I've always loved their food! Sometimes I crave their Hot Wok Noodles meal. It contains spinach noodles with green and red peppers and jalapeños. Ugh it's so good! There plates are great. They have a wide variety of good plates. Pad see ewe is my favorite. The pick up service is HORRIBLE they say 20min and what they mean is a extra 20min once you get there. Then they act like they cant find your order so they have more time to make it or make sure you actually show up to pick it up. I always order delivery its much much faster, never had any problems. If you live in this area, NW side of the city, it is hard to find any sushi places. Luckily Hot Woks does a good job as this is virtually your only option. I have been here once with a pick up order and another time we dined on the patio. The patio dining is tall boy table style and stuck in-between the hustle and bustle of the busy streets and highway. There are a lot of plants and large umbrellas to shade you from the sun while also trying to make the atmosphere enjoyable. We had the gyoza and a couple rolls of sushi while dining here. Service was fine, though there was some strange snickering/giggling at times from the group, not sure what that was all about. I also had the ramen which hit the spot. All in all it is a must try given the location and all of the available options. BYOB and dig in to your favorite Asian dish. read more

The food looked a lot better than it tasted unfortunately. The lunch specials are very well priced. I tried the chicken teriyaki bento box which had a great variety of foods. On paper it looked like a great choice. Even visually I thought I made a great choice. Unfortunately none of the items in the bento box were very good ( mediocre at best). The sushi rice was cold and overall the California roll was eh ( iv had better at a grocery store). The chicken teriyaki was a soupy mess of dark meat chicken and mushrooms covered in waaay too much sauce. The veggie tempura was heavily breaded and deep fried ( I like my tempura lightly breaded) and the sauce that accompanied it had little flavor. The portion size was enormous- I came in hungry and left a lot of food. Service was fine. Inside of restaurant fine- bare bones little restaurant . Loved the free parking but beware the spots are tiny. Overall, not terrible but not great. I don't think I'll be a repeat customer. read more

So, seriously the place looks like someone bought a two story house and decided, "I'm gonna turn my house into a restaurant and name it something cool." First and foremost, places that try to specialize in two different cuisines usually are spot on with one and fall short with the other. HWCS does well to do both. Now, in my opinion, Thai is still their specialty. They have all the staples - and the entrees seem authentic enough. Their Japanese offerings are simple (maki rolls and Bento Boxes); I can even picture those Geico cavemen being able to do it, but in kimonos. So far I've had the Tom Yum Soup, Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box, Unagi-Cucumber Roll, Crab Rangoon and Pad Seiw - all in one sitting. Just kidding. Everything has been consistently good. They do a good job of giving each dish just enough taste and not going overboard. They also have a sweetened Raspberry Jasmine Tea that is every bit as good and light as the Iced Green Tea at Panera. Overall, the prices are way reasonable and the ambience (and new outdoor patio) add a nice touch. Note: If ordering Pad Siew, ask them to make the noodles crispy. It is wonderful. This place is worth the aggravation. Getting into the tight and difficult to get at parking spot will definitely with your nerves. I had to get into a small argument with someone who thought I was going to hot him dead on while I entered the parking lot. Anyway, the argument was worth it. The place by no means it's large, but it's got a nice comfortable feel. We were immediately seated and have our menus. The tables are a bit close, which made for some conversation when we saw what the table next to us had ordered. My wife and I started with some Miso soup and Gyoza. The soup was not as salty as I would have expected from my experiences at other locations. This soup was just right to the point that I was able to taste the medley of seaweed, tofu, and miso. The Gyoza was good, but it looked and tasted like the ones you can pick up at your local supermarket in the Frozen food isle. I followed up my appetizers with some Thai Iced coffee. It was average and tasted just like it would at any other restaurant. What did make this place was the Sushi and the Mango orange chicken that my wife had. I ordered the spicy tuna and spider rolls. Both were very well made and modestly presented. The Mango orange chicken was very very good. The chicken was lightly breaded and the veggies were looking very fresh. The white rice was fluffy and tender, not many places get it right. These guys did. I'd definitely come back, but I think I would think twice about driving there. Yum Yum Yum! I was quite surprised when my friend took me here for sushi. I had to giggle at the name Hot Woks Cool Sushi (HWCS) when we first pulled into the parking lot. It seems like a convenient location too. My friend picked me up from downtown but didn't want to deal with parking so we drove to Hot Woks. It was near his place so he knew exactly what to order. HWCS is pretty small but the food is really good. They have inventive rolls in addition to the usual sushi choices. We had eel, the Obama-nami, and the Oceano. Eel= good as always. yum! Obama-nami was pretty tasty too and featured a patriotic American flag. I wonder if the roll came out before or after his election to the Presidential Office? hmm I digress. The Oceano was good too!!! Octopus wrapped in cilantro might sound weird, but twas actually really tasty! mMmMmmMm I heart this place. Service is great. Atmosphere is conducive to great conversation and lots of sushi-enjoyment. We ordered a roll, a bento box, an appetizer and another entrée and literally had a delivery in a giant brown bag! The bento box alone could have fed two people. I ordered the tofu teriyaki and got a bonus shrimp tempura in there - and a whole California roll instead of the usual 2-3 pieces most places give you. That, plus salad, and soup, etc. Husband had the orange chicken which was expertly made and packed with sauce separate to ensure eating pleasure. The only complaint I have is that the rolls didn't have the usual paper separating the wasabi and ginger from the rolls, so that was a little gross since I am not a fan of either. read more

I have walked/driven/meandered past this location for years and never bothered to stop in. I will never forgive myself for waiting this long to put their seaweed salad in my mouth. It was so delectable, I almost moaned with that first bite. Not to mention that the sushi itself is out of this world. I grew up eating sushi from the Sai Cafe and if that doesn't make you a sushi snob, I don't know what will. I like the chain Hot Woks Cool Sushi for their hot bowls and cool maki rolls. This one is in walking distance from my place, so my son and I popped in here over New Year's. It's small. And not nearly as nice as the ones downtown. The parking lot is tiny. Staff is super friendly and fast. I like the Mega Vega rolls the best- vegetarian Maki with sweet potatoes, beets, avocado, even my son liked it! We also tried the Akira rolls, which were HUGE. I've had better rolls. I do like their Obama-Nami rolls (which I forget and call ObamaMama). I'm sure I'll order Delivery from them frequently and be back soon. read more

I've been here about 5-8 times since it opened, and the staff has always been pleasant and attentive. Several restaurants have tried this location and failed but it really was because THEY weren't too good. This place is two blocks from my house and it rocks. If we are in the mood for sit down Asian and to just walk down and eat, we go there. It couldn't be closer and the quality is great, (though the prices are a bit high for this neighborhood). The setting is really nice/trendy too and we have taken several sets of friends there. Nice that they have a mix of Thai, Chinese and Sushi so if you don't know which exactly you are in the mood for, you can have a bit of all. This is not our favorite Chinese, or our favorite Thai, or our Favorite Sushi place BUT it does get high marks for carrying all three and for being so close to home. The food quality is really 5 star but the prices are a bit too high for the portion size so I can only give it 4. If you live in the neighborhood and haven't found it yet, let your nose lead you in and enjoy! They aren't on restaurant.com for a coupon or anything. It is worth going there for a special occasion or with friends. A bit too pricey to be our once a week place for Asian. Every few months we visit and are glad we did. read more

I was stopping at the blinds store next store so stopped in and ordered a chicken bento box - they have an outdoor and I wish I had just asked to eat there but I has asked for it to go. I waited in the outdoor area and enjoyed the fresh air. When I got home I was pleasantly surprised to have a full order of California rolls in addition to a full size miso soup - both every good. The bento box was pretty good. I liked the flavor and for $12 it was A LOT of food. The parking situation is typical for the city with about four free parking spots in front and a few free parking in the street.The decor inside is nice and modern, very clean. The staff is usually friendly but service is typically slow and the seating on the first level is super cramped! Don't come here unless you're okay with becoming friends with your neighbor. The upstairs is nice but i've never been seated there. I try not to go to the bathroom here because there are so many steps to get to the second level. read more

Miso soup was in a styrofoam container wrapped in a plastic bag in case it spilled, well it spilled, no soup for me. The spring roll had zero flavor. Called and asked them to deliver a new soup and the sashimi which they did. But they put the soy sauce in with soup, so the soy was piping hot, did not go well with salmon sashimi.
