We started using this Current Hotel when our daughter started college at CSULB four years ago. The first year it was really nice ... it had a great breakfast ... and a beautiful pool. The next year it was still pretty darn good. Then the third year owners changed and you could see the hotel starting to go downhill. The breakfast was taken away. They started charging for parking which they have an abundant amount of parking spots. The service and the quality and the cleanliness went downhill rapidly. Now the fourth year and it is absolutely disgusting. I highly recommend you DO NOT use this dirty hotel. Do not be fooled by their pictures. Checking in was seamless and pleasant. Once in my room, I noticed a few small bugs in the bathroom, but brushed it off. After getting out the shower, I noticed a few more... and larger insects on the desk; crawling into my bag. I called the front desk and the man said because I was on the first floor, they do have crickets. The smaller ones "may be termites." He offered to let me switch rooms. I decided to go with the second floor, even though they do not have elevators and I'm 8 months pregnant. The second room was much nicer and larger. However, at 4:30am the alarm went off. Decent for the price. Everything was very modern, clean and new-looking. Not loud. Ample parking, although the spots were all compact so I had to take up two spots with my minivan. My only two complaints: (1) weird tiny pillows on the beds, and (2) the shower had a waterfall shower head (which I hate) with very low water pressure. read more

For a recent business trip, I made my reservation directly with the hotel. The reservation went smoothly, and my reception was greeted professionally and friendly, including my meeting with the Hotel Manager, Wayne. The accommodations were excellent! Clean and comfortable. The parking lot is basically "hidden" from the street and well lit. A very safe environment. This will be my go to Hotel for future stays in Long Beach! read more

Most uncomfortable beds ever. Drug deals popping off all night...don't do it. Very disappointed woth the place.

This is a nice little remodeled hotel, however there are a few things to be aware of. Our room had two beds, which were very small. If they were doubles it sure did not feel like it. My husband and I each had to sleep in our own bed, which was not our original plan. The sheets on one of the beds had a stain, which was not appealing. The large mirror was dirty in the bathroom with big smudges ( to the eye everything else seemed clean). Our in-room coffee maker was broken. We were staying in a ground level room, which was very noisy, with cars/trucks and loud people coming and going. It finally quieted down around 1:30-2:00am The location is good and so are the rates. Came here for a night then decided to pay cash and stay another night five days later I still have not received my deposit back on my card but my card has been charged 6x $240.33 if it wasn't for my card being locked with the app feature this hotel widow tried to steal $240.33. Now I'm here for the third time to see what's going on with my deposit. They have me waiting in the lobby for 30 minutes, I do not recommend this please the manager does not know what is going on and none of the workers know what's going on nobody could give me an answer. Wow has this place gone down hill. We haven't been here for three years and we always really liked this place before to stay for the snooze and cruise. I read that they now charge to park in their parking lot. We have no microwave and was told they don't have them in all the rooms. The bottom of the door has a nice gap so bugs can enter. We opened the refrigerator and their was left over water bottle and the door won't close properly and it's froze up. It's so small that hardly anything can fit. The floors are lifting in places. The door that hides the mini fridge won't close without force. They no longer have a shuttle service to and from the airport and cruise. No breakfast, no hand soaps. We bought soda from the front desk cause there is not a vending machines and they charged us $3 a can and they were dented from someone dropping them. When we we were trying to put them in the small fridge, one can exploded all over the floor. We called the front desk guy and he said that the cleaning ladies couldn't service our room while we were in it. Finally after a while two cleaning ladies came over with several towels which we didnnot ask for. They seen that our floor was sticky and mopped the floor then gave us more towels so we stuffed the towels where the microwave was suppose to be. We will not be staying here anymore. read more

This hotel was part of a wedding expo and seemed like a great place for hosting friends and family for my daughters wedding. We toured the property last year and made arrangements with the Sales Manager to reserve a block of rooms. We went for our 8th wedding anniversary getaway. We purchased the love package and although the wine and chocolates were very well appreciated I think it should have came with a little more. Maybe a towel origami, some balloons, and some flowers would have been so cute. Non the less we had a great time just the two of us. The area was very nice and easy to find. The room was pretty big and had a nice view. We really like this place and ha inspired us to get away more often. Came her before a trip on Carnival for their stay and park package. So after finally finding the place we checked in and luckily I paid for the package online already because when I arrived, they wanted to charge an additional parking fee when we specifically purchased and the Park and Cruise package. The hotel has nothing within walking distance. We were dependent on driving ourselves, their own restaurant or the shuttle bus. read more

Check-in: The Front Staff welcomes you promptly and courteously. The Art Deco interior did a nice job of covering up this old "motor lodge" into a decent property. However, that's where the niceties end. Parking: If you arrive in the evening when the front parking is full, beware of the angled stalls near the Room 160s. If large SUVs or full-size trucks park there in the "one-way" zone, good luck! It's a super-tight squeeze! Our small car was actually damaged! Free breakfast: The continental breakfast is your typical complimentary fare. Nothing special except for the OJ -- on ice, yet not watered-down. Rooms: The rain shower heads in the showers are very gimmicky and do not provide enough flow to rinse off in less than 15 minutes! There are no carpets in the rooms, just hardwood laminate. The soles of my socks are all filthy black now. Will a third time be a charm? One will never know.... read more

This is for our stay in March 2019 for 2 nights. The staff was super nice and friendly from the shuttle driver, the reception desk to housekeeping. The shuttle driver arrived about 20 minutes after I called. Wayne at the reception desk checked us in early, even though we were prepared to just hang out. As soon as we arrived at the room, we noticed how clean everything looked, but upon closer inspection, we saw that one of the beds had stains on it so we had housekeeping change the sheets. The toilet also wasn't flushing so Joshua fixed it right away. I would give 4 stars for the staff. However, I didn't get much sleep at all. The walls are paper thin. I could hear when the person next door stepped out of the shower, as well as when they were making coffee. I also could hear people walking past the door at all hours of the day and night because of a huge gap about 2"-3" at the bottom of the door. There was no door sweep so I swear that a mouse could easily fit under it. Now that I look back, I should have put a couple towels to try and muffle the sounds. The person next door kept playing with their car alarm the first day. It was constantly chirping as she activated and deactivated it while she was in her room. Dropped one star for the thin walls. Before booking the hotel, I specifically called to ask if they had pet-free rooms because of my allergies. The price was much lower than where we usually stay, plus we were moving my son out of CSULB so liked that it was closer. I was told that they have rooms that no pets have been in. I was fine up until we went to bed. Within minutes, I was sneezing and congested for a week. Dropped another star because there there is no pet-free rooms, even though they told me that they have them. Though the staff is great, we don't intend on staying here again. read more

They also charge for parking which isn't on their website. We left and asked for our money back. Said they would give me my money back, but have 't received it yet. What a beautiful hotel room. Cheap but high quality and unique design. Check in was super easy and they have boxed water. The room has a keurig coffee maker, flat screen, and phone. The bathroom was gorgeous and had bee kind and paya bath products. They also had a cool modern art piece and a huge rain shower. The parking wasn't full and it's pretty quite. There is a pool but there wasn't any water in it. So one star down for that. The bedding is a high thread count and had a huge green pillow that was super soft and a comforter that had tree designs on it. The breakfast isn't too shabby and did the trick. Ac worked and over all very happy and it is in a nicer area of Long Beach, close to Whole Foods too! The gyms meh but if you got cardio to do it'll work. read more

Hotel will charge you double and say it's because of your bank . Then if you ask to see a manager or higher authority other than front desk you'll get told " they're going to tell you the samething I just told you " . I still said I wanted to speak with a higher authority and was helped with my problem. I do not recommend this hotel the front desk needs better employees read more

We stayed here last week with their stay and cruise package, which included parking for our car while we were on a 7 day cruise. The customer service at this hotel is exceptional! They were so friendly and accommodating from the minute we checked in. The hotel itself is older but super updated and clean!! I wish we were staying longer so we could enjoy the pool (which was huge) and the cabanas. The lighting and cool vibe at night looked so inviting and relaxing. The bed was super comfortable although they are smaller beds. The room itself was big (we had two double beds on the first floor outside of the pool). The bathroom was super nice but it does not get good air flow with the AC, however there is a window in there which was nice. There was a mix up with our shuttle picking us up from the cruise terminal. We had called to inform the hotel we were ready to be picked up and they had said they would I be there in 20 or 25 minutes. About 10 minutes later, As we were making our way to the location they had said they would pick us up, I guess they had arrived and tried to call me but my phone was in my pocket and I didn't hear it ringing. When my husband called about 30 minutes later they informed us it would take an hour to pick us up as they were transporting other guests back and forth. Because if that, they told us to get a taxi and they would pay for the ride back. They did not need to do that as it was my fault that I missed their call, therefore missing our shuttle. That right there is excellent customer service and since I belong to various social media groups where people are always asking where to stay in Long Beach before their cruise, you can believe I will be referring them to Hotel Current! read more

I was unsure about staying at the small boutique hotel but we booked a room as it was close to CAL State Long Beach. The rooms were well apportioned, everything was clean, beds were comfortable, and the staff was amazing. Very large kudos goes to Wayne who made sure all our needs were met. Debating between 2-3 stars, it has good things, renovated, but has some issues, especially bathroom cleanliness. Great Location Close to LB airport, free shuttle to airport Close to Long Beach cruise terminal (12 min) & San Pedro cruise terminal (20 min) hotel offer free shuttle to the terminals. Also close to downtown LB, Queen Mary, Naples, Belmont shores. Aquarium of the Pacific & other tourist spots Service: front desk staff was polite, courteous, and helpful. Check in was prompt, we were explained about the hotel amenities, they may need to offer local tourist information as well since this is a spot for cruise travelers. Room: Newly renovated, modern look, Dark color wood furniture & accents. Comfortable beds, which is a plus, spacious room. Problems with room: A/c heater: room renovated, but unit is old very noisy & keep running. Don't know why not replaced. Paper thin walls: Could hear all from the other room. Had a little noisy neighbors and could hear their laughs and conversation, kept waking up. Floor / ceiling: could here my own steps, I bet people first floor could here it too. If renovated, could have paid attention in sound proof the room. Comforter: it is too thin. Does not seem hotel grade. It was cold night. Needed something warmer. Bed: it is too high for a vote, but it was very comfortable. I guess they miscalculated the height Bathroom: Also renovated, modern look,Big bathroom, big shower. Problem with bathroom: Main issue with bathroom and stay is cleanliness of bathroom. Open end faucet nozzle. You can see the water calcium build up. Also found mildew on the shower wall grout. This was a big turn off. Hope management takes care of this. Sink is too high for a petite person like my wife 5'2". No toiletries, it offers shampoo and gel dispenser at the shower wall and just one soap. Hotel does not offer conditioner so BYO Pool area This hotel has big pool and a really ni e pool area 2 or 3 lounge areas. Several pool chairs. It would be a great area to enjoy an afternoon enjoying the sun and pool. Really a great pool area. Breakfast: Decent continental breakfast. Nothing memorable, but decent, food flavor bacon, fluffy scrambled eggs, pancakes with self made pancakes machine, bagels, muffins, bread, toaster, apple and banana, yogurt, milk, cereal, orange juice, boiled eggs. The Wifey and I stayed a few days w the pups and we were quite impressed from the front desk interaction to check out our stay was great! I absolutely LOVED the inspiring messages painted on the parking spots throughout the property, it literally lifted my spirits on a bad day (who ever's idea that was is alright w me! Thank you) we never realize how the simplest thing can change an entire day for someone. The room was clean, beds comfy, there was a mini fridge and pod type coffee maker in the room. They also offer a fantastic daily breakfast included w your stay and this was not just yogurt and fruit. They had pretty much all things you'd see on an American breakfast menu. But the coolest thing I have EVER seen was the automatic pancake maker they had, makes a single serving (2 pancakes each) in less than 10 mins (double thumbs up for that). Check out is noon and even when I called the front desk on our check out day to ask for a late check out, I was given an extra hour (1:00 pm) to check out despite the fact that they were full that day. I really appreciated that extra hour, thank you! The location is near freeways, many food choices and convenient stores, they also offer room service from the nearby Italian restaurant (but not on Monday). I didn't stay here....let's be clear on that. I am only reviewing my first interaction with the hotel over the phone. I called the hotel first because I wanted pricing and more information about the Yelp discount. If you are reading this, you probably saw the huge YELP DISCOUNT FOR USERS and BOOK NOW. When I clicked on it the website was down which is why I called the hotel directly. I spoke with a guy who seem to be a little clueless as to what I was talking about. He put me on hold for almost 9 mins just to tell me that the yelp discount was no longer being used. I asked why was it still on the website and he said he didn't know. I told him because of the customer service over the phone I will give a poor review, and guest what he said......OKAY.....lol....clearly he didn't care, so I am keeping my word. My first interaction was so nonchalant and strange I am giving one star. I wouldn't trust them to stay at this hotel due to incompetence of the customer service over the phone. If I am calling because I want to stay there, he should have done everything in his power to assist me and he didn't. If I said the offer for the discount was still on the site, he should have asked his manager for assistance but he didn't. He just wanted me off the phone. We stayed in a king room with a jacuzzi tub. We thought our room was going to have the jacuzzi tub and renovated shower/bathroom....but it did not. We felt the pictures online were misleading about this. The shower was small (1 person shower), did not have a rainfall shower head, no vanity to keep bathroom items, and there is only a curtain to separate the bathroom and tub from the bedroom area. This means zero privacy when using the bathroom. There is no conditioner, and inside the shower is a shampoo & liquid soap dispenser that I'm pretty certain has the same liquid in both! So bring your own toiletries!! Additionally, we were in the building closest to PCH....windows are definitely not double paned because we could hear cars and even airplanes ALL THE TIME! Pool was closed for maintenance while we were there, and we were not warned ahead of time. The pillows are bite size mini pillows...comparable to a throw pillow but more rectangular. Great for watching tv in bed but too fluffy to sleep. The rooms all have mini fridges but they do not work well...we turned ours up all the way and items inside were not very cold unless directly under the freezer section. On a positive note, the mattress was comfy, and the AC worked well. The parking spots have positive messages that were fun to read (balance, relax, peace). Check out is at 12:00pm!!!! We would only stay again to check out their renovated room, even if it meant no jacuzzi tub. If you're trying to decide between a renovated room or the jacuzzi room, definitely save the money and pass on the jacuzzi. read more

Don't let the pictures posted on the web fool you. This is your basic, basic motel. The internet is extremely slow, about 3 mbps download and about 0.5 mbps upload. When you check in, they make you initial that the box of water in the room is $5. Still the most annoying thing is they want $15 per vehicle per night. This is in spite of being located next to a residential area and there is a ton of parking spaces on the street. read more

Keurig coffee in room and comfortable beds. Pool is nice and I think slightly heated but no hot tub. The seating areas are nice and shaded and comfortable. On Yelp, there's an offer to pay $119 for $139 in credit for the Hotel Current. So, we purchased the credit and the hotel wouldn't honor it. The hotel explained that we used a different reservation system and because of that, they couldn't accept the Yelp discount. That makes no sense. We booked the reservation through the hotel's web site. Seems like a sham. Adding insult to injury, in the voucher Yelp provides an email address if there are any issues. In the past week, I've made 2 inquiries to Yelp and have not received a response. For a rating and review site, I would expect a lot better of Yelp. read more

I purchased a Yelp Deal for $109 for a $139 rate. I made a reservation over the phone and provided a credit card info. When I checked in, I showed "my deals" on my phone. I paid $9 at check out for tax. There's a complimentary shuttle service. Bf and I took it to the 2nd Street. From there, we went to the Pike and downtown. The shuttle picked us up a little after 10 p.m. from downtown. Ice machine is located by room 159. Insert the room key in the slot. Bf and I stayed at this hotel on a Saturday night. We wanted to hang out in Long Beach to do something different. But we didn't want to take a cab or the train. I'm completely opposed to driving with any amount of alcohol so this hotel made sense. The outward appearance is somewhat humble. The layout and the design look like a motel. But the rooms are completely upgraded. We requested a room with a golf course view. There's a busy street between the golf course and the hotel, but surprisingly, it wasn't that noisy. I liked the roomy rain shower. I also appreciated the complimentary shuttle within a 5 mile radius. The Cuisinart coffee in the room was smooth. I noticed that some of the boutique hotels have queen size beds so I was pleased that there was a King size bed in our room. read more

If u are going on a cruise I recommend you stay here ! Was amazed by the staff and room.. we had just left a roach motel (sunrise) . It was after 8pm when we got in to town and had a bad experience with another hotel . Called hotel current and they had rooms available. Took us a lil longer to get there but worth it. Rooms nice and clean. Breakfast was awesome. Shuttle service was great they dropped off and picked up from cruise ship. Left car there for 7 days and had no problems . I was very pleased with the room. Housekeeping did a great job preparing it, even had folded towels like on a cruise ship. The only problem was the additional $15 fee for parking. I had prepaid for my room on Hotels.com and thought there would be no additional fees. After checking in, I revisited Hotels.com and saw in the details that there was indeed a charge for parking. This was sort of buried on the website and not apparent unless you were looking for it. There is parking on a residential street directly behind the hotel if you want to avoid the fee. Also, as others have mentioned they have "boxed water" in the room which is not free. This was mentioned to me at check in. read more

YES. The rooms at Hotel CURRENT have all been COMPLETELY redone/remodeled with high quality materials and fixtures to be extremely artsy, modern, and super cool. We're talking the good stuff, such as wood floors (no carpet), rain shower head, iPod speaker hookup, funky sink, and hand-painted art on the wall to name a few. The pool is hip and has a lot of potential to be a hotspot, with lots of cabana seating and other nice areas to chill and listen to the speakered music. Unfortunately, there is no jacuzzi, but the pool is heated and gradually goes from 1 to 9 feet deep. Note that they have stepped up their "continental breakfast" BIG TIME since one of the other reviews wrote that it was just so-so. Breakfast included ALL of the following from 6:30-9:30am: - Sausage - Scrambled eggs - Waffles - Toast - Juice - Coffee - Milk - Fruit - Cereal - Hard boiled eggs - Microwave burritos - Oatmeal Aside from the flawless service, free parking, reasonable pricing, and the fact that the entire hotel is smoke-free, here's what pushes Hotel CURRENT to 5 stars: They offer a FREE shuttle (seats up to 10) that will drop you off/pick you up anywhere you want within a 5 mile radius until 10:30pm. This includes the Queen Mary, the aquarium, downtown, convention center, Long Beach airport, etc. This is a HUGE advantage over getting a cab. Don't forget to tip your driver! We certainly admire boutique hotels, typically for their modern design and unique styling. This was no different in being esthetically pleasing from the artistic lobby to the sleek room. It's amazing what simple dark wood furniture, glass, and metal can do for a small space. Also, the pool area is gorgeous, I wish we had time to enjoy it. Anyway, we came in pretty late (11pm) and our front desk agent was really great, friendly, and welcoming. I also asked her about their rates and when I informed her that I booked through Expedia, she explained that they'll price match and we can make an easy reservation directly. Good to know! We loved the design of the room, the art, and the furniture. Very chic. I loved the bathroom and the large shower with rain shower head! The water pressure was horrible though. The king bed was VERY comfortable, which is hard for me to find other than my own bed, so that was wonderful. The complimentary continental breakfast (6:30-9:30am) was surprisingly decent! We enjoyed sausage patties, hard-boiled eggs, make-your-own waffles with a fresh banana, and hot tea and coffee. It was not amazing, but honestly I wouldn't expect much from a continental breakfast, especially free, and it was perfect to start our day. I also loved how many selections there were available! Cereal, oatmeal, breakfast burritos (those frozen ones), orange juice, danishes, yogurt, bagels, bread, and other fresh fruit.
