Experienced the most beautiful, relaxing, joy-sparking 30th birthday weekend here after a chaotic week leading up to the day with multiple hotel and trip cancellations. Joaquin's staff was welcoming, attentive, and easy to reach. We loved our rooms here (we switched from the La Vue to the Azur after night one for capacity reasons), the high-quality in-room record player and massive record selection, the spacious bathrooms, the beautiful pool, and Shaw's Cove, the beach hideaway just steps away from the hotel. No TVs in the room, which you don't need when you can spin records and disconnect from the screen for a few days. The décor and design are beachy, rustic, and very photo-friendly. Would come here again in a minute, and will especially when the lauded restaurant reopens in post-COVID times. read more

Finally got to check this place out since a couple of my coworkers recommended me it, I was greeted by a wonderful waiter and I believe his name was Dino. I wasnt sure on what to order and he was nice enough to explain me everything on the menu, I took his recommendation on getting the skirt steak and it was the best steak I have ever had. I was also recommended to try the chocolate nutella mouse and it was delicious! He was always checking up on me and felt very welcomed giving me the best customer service. Overall the restaurant and hotel experience was amazing, it was great to have a little getaway! Just from this experience I'll definitely be back! read more

We had an amazing stay at this hotel. Our room had a modern European vibe, which we loved. Also, as others have mentioned, a record player, with records, in a hotel room? That's a pretty clever thing to provide. And someone has good taste. They had a two-record set of Django Reinhardt music. (Reinhardt happens to be one of our favorite musicians.) The food at the hotel was topnotch--like eating at a gourmet restaurant. We had dinner there both nights of our stay. I mean, why bother going to another restaurant in Laguna Beach when the food here is so good? The breakfasts are free and also very good. Everyone on the staff was welcoming. The only negative is that we had a first floor room, and the soundproofing between floors wasn't so great. I don't think our upstairs neighbors were unusually noisy, but just their walking across the room kept us up part of the night. Still, that certainly was not a deal-breaker, and we would definitely stay here again. read more

EXCEPTIONAL property! Everything at Hotel Joaquin is amazing, from the staff, views, layout and food. My fiancé and I recently stayed there for a night and I can tell you this, we are upset we could only spend one night there. We will definitely be returning and recommending it to everyone we know. For starters the staff are all polite, friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating, they all do an exceptional job at making you feel like you are right at home. Chef Leo's creativity and flavors are nothing but the best! As everyone does, we would highly recommend the broccolini, artichoke, crab gnocchi and the sea bass. DO NOT forget dessert, the Nutella mousse was airy, flavorful and anything you could want in a dessert. I'm not a big reviewer but I could not resist leaving an exceptional review for this place. Having experienced their sister property in Palm Springs, I knew that I would be impressed but it was even beyond my expectations. There is a sense of family and familiarity you experience here that's unparalleled to any hotel I've ever been. Everyone here treats you like an old friend, and there is a coziness and warmth to everything. From the moment you sip your first cocktail (Oxacan on Trinidad) to having your first bite of the best dinner you've had in OC (Chef Leo Bongarra is my hero), it's all part of a magical moment in time. I've stayed here twice now and both rooms have been fantastic. Shaw's room is my favorite and the record player in each room is a wonderful touch. Came here for some food and drinks while a friend was staying here and was thoroughly impressed with the cuisine and the atmosphere! It is a super adorable boutique hotel which is really well decorated, has a well curated gift shop, and excellent food! We came for late lunch and ordered 5 different menu items and they were all fantastic. There is partly outdoor seating with views. The cocktail menu listed mostly the spirits available but not specific cocktails so I made a few different requests based on preferred liquor and spicy, or sweet or citrusy, and they delivered unique drinks every time. We ended up enjoying our time relaxing on the patio long enough that we decided to order a couple of dinner menu items as well. The crab gnocchi and broccolini were both superb. I feel like I am usually underwhelmed by hotel restaurant food, and I was really pleasantly surprised and impressed with everything we ordered here. Service was great as well with multiple people checking in with us. I got to check out my friend's hotel room, and while I did not stay here, the room was extremely well decorated and welcoming. Beautiful design and excellent curation from the decor to the toiletries. Definitely entices me to book an overnight stay here for the full experience. Hoping to see this business thrive! read more

Don't worry if you can't find what you are looking for music wise in your collection in your room, you can head down to the main lobby, cozy up to the fire place on the most comfy couches, and look through the even more extensive collection there. If you find something you like, they encourage you to take it back to your room and enjoy. While you are enjoying the lobby don't forget to grab a drink at the hotel bar. Zack was our bartender and he was amazing. Extremely friendly, professional and made us the most amazing craft cocktails. You can tell he loves what he does and makes sure you experience an amazing cocktail. Oh and when you first check in, the give you a complimentary cocktail. How sweet is that! Along with your stay at this hotel, you get a free breakfast each morning. If you are anything like me, I'm not an early bird, so i was hoping breakfast was at a time i could manage to make. And it was! They serve breakfast from 8am-11am. It is amazing! I have never been at a hotel that made breakfast so amazing and relaxing. The views from their restaurant is incredible. The beach is just a short 2min walk from the hotel. They provide beach towels and fins. In the morning they offer Yoga and Hiking. All complimentary from the Hotel. The general manager Ruth is a sweetheart and will accommodate you with whatever you may need. I can't recommend this place enough. Don't wait and book today. I guarantee they will be booked up fast. My husband surprised me with a great 2 night escape during the last week of August. The hotel is really cute and essentially a painted over motel. I'm really surprised that one of the the reviewers had Hotel Joaquin in the running with the Montage and Dana Point because they are entirely different categories. Joaquin is pretty much no service, in fact, it was difficult to figure out where check-in was, who was in charge, and when we asked a staff member for an extra blanket when we caught him, he said he'd never been asked that before (and kept going). The hotel was far from capacity and yet they gave us essentially a dungeon room with a not-so-beautiful view of the PCH, a lingering coffee smell, as we were next to the service room, and absolutely no access to sunshine or outdoor space given the PCH view window. Even though the restaurant was closed, there were people hanging out in the bar at 10:00 on a Sunday night and as there is no one to call, we texted and asked that they please ask the guests to quiet down as our room was located in the bar. The pool was cute and we enjoyed sitting by it for a good deal of the day. I'm wondering what all of this we have fresh fruit at the pool, or we are setting up seats at the beach today today talk is but we saw no one and were offered nothing. I also read reviews that people got free drink vouchers and tours at check-in, wow! That would have been nice. Our room was extremely clean and we enjoyed the free records. I'd recommend this hotel if you are planning on spending most of the day at the beach and you are not expecting much in the way of service but the price does not speak to this, not at all. read more

I stayed last weekend for Memorial Day and overall I had a good experience at the hotel. However, I feel disappointed at the front office manager and staff. I left a few belongings of mine behind in room 27 inside the closet. This was my fault for not checking every single place before checking out from the hotel. I realize on Tuesday morning that I had left some clothes behind because I was going to do my laundry from that weekend since I didn't unpacked at all. So, I called the hotel spoke to Robert in the front desk and he said he would check with his manger when he got in around 8am and I never heard back. Then I called a second time and spoke to the front desk manager which I forgot his name. I explained the situation and he said he would check with the housekeeper but again I didn't hear back. I decided to call the next day and I think this time I spoke to the manager of the hotel and he got my information and called me back. He told me that he check with the housekeeper but they didn't find anything. I asked him if they have a protocol and lost & found and he said yes. I'm just disappointed because I know for a fact that I left my stuff there since I didn't unpack anything that weekend because I was exhausted. I hope the manager reevaluates his staff. I'm just glad that it wasn't something more valuable than clothes. read more

I would give Hotel Joaquin 10 stars if I could! my husband and I had a perfect weekend getaway here, exceeding all of our expectations. What we especially loved was the serenity- the hotel is private for guests only so it was peaceful and quiet in all areas of the hotel. The service was one of a kind- coffee delivered to our room each morning, turn down service with chocolate, and amazing staff at breakfast, lunch and dinner(thanks Dino!) not to mention the food! My husband and I were disappointed the one night that we went downtown in laguna to eat- we kept saying "we should've stayed at the hotel" the chef is so creative with his dishes and the flavors that he combines.. my personal favorite was the crab gnocchi. Hotel Joaquin was the most incredible experience I've ever had while staying outside of home. On an anniversary staycation, my lady and I stayed here and were lucky enough to enjoy their chef's package. It was the best meal we've ever had in Laguna Beach, if not recent memory as a whole. The bar, the living room, the room itself (Maree), the pool, the amenities, the staff, nothing could have been more charming and attentive to detail. The entire place is an interior designer's dream. We found it hard to leave the room simply from the comfort and aesthetic it provided. We can't imagine staying anywhere else, and are more than eager to take the time off to simply stay a night here again just because. It made us feel completely foreign in the best way despite the fact we were so close to home, they really did whisk us away into paradise. I can't rave enough about this beautiful little hotel.
