Husband booked a couple nights here for our anniversary celebration. I was super happy with his choice! This hotel is definitely my kind of hotel. Super chill, adults only, warm salt water pool, record player in every room, great breakfast, nice mid century style bar. Upon our arrival, we were given a tour of the property. There's a rooftop where you can do some yoga or enjoy the sunset and view of the ocean. The bar is small but mighty with many of your favorites gin, vodka, cognac,... seats a handful of guests. The pool was sparkling. Temperature was perfect and the salt water is good for our skin. There are nice lounging around the pool and don't be surprised if you fall asleep as it could get pretty comfy. Our room is furnished with aesthetically pleasing furniture - the king size bed, the bathroom with its rustic tiles. Love the L-shape seating area next to the record player. We were able to bring back a couple records from the hotel lobby/lounge. Stan Getz and Chet Baker was spinning in our room throughout our stay. It was lovely. Breakfast is served until 11 am. I love that we didn't have to wake up so early too. We were able to take our time waking up. Ahhhh so chill. Oh and breakfast was free! Loved the eggs and bacon which came with a side of kale potato bell peppers sautee. So healthy! Served on there open bar dining area where you can enjoy the beautiful view. We were very happy with the crew. They were all so friendly and accommodating. Hope to return sooner rather than later!

Our stay at Hotel Joaquin was absolutely perfect. From the moment we arrived, the service was above and beyond -- Jack, in particular, was incredible and made us feel completely cared for throughout our stay. Breakfast each morning was delicious, and the pool -- a heated saltwater dream -- was the perfect spot to unwind. The location couldn't be better: the beach is just a short walk away, and downtown Laguna is a quick and easy e-bike ride (which the hotel thoughtfully provides!). The room was cozy and beautifully designed, complete with a record player that set the perfect vibe. I loved the music in the common areas -- it really adds to the relaxed, coastal feel. My only regret is not having enough time to enjoy a soak in the gorgeous tub. We took a morning yoga class, borrowed the bikes, and rode into town -- it was the perfect way to start the day. Every moment here felt thoughtful, peaceful, and special. Can't wait to come back!

Tranquil and serene! Had our work staff retreat here and the views are breathtaking. Offered a refreshing welcome cocktail as they accompany you to your room. Each room is a quiet mini escape with vinyl record players and a few solid artists to choose from, I didn't know they didn't have TVs in the room and I didn't miss it. It was walkable, the staff were amazing, coffee delivered to your door every morning, and breakfast was included (French toast was yummy). Even enjoyed the bar one evening and I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend!

If you are looking for a super chill,, understated stylish beach getaway without the flight, or just a great spot in Laguna if you are from out of town, then look no further. Updated retro vibes here - no TV in the room but you do get a record player and their collection of LPs. Highlights: - Location: short walk to an amazing beach cove. Nice walk to downtown Laguna Beach. Amazing view of the water down the hill from the open air common room, day or night. - Room is the epitome of relaxed, retro comfort. Very comfortable to hang out here. - Very nice relaxed saltwater pool that felt like a mineral bath, but totally swimmable. - Nice welcome cocktail when you check in (comped) - Great breakfast food, shakshuka and granola were both great. (Costs extra). Coffee delivered to your door in the morning is included, and quite good. - Bartender knows how to mix a drink, that's all I need to say about that. - Staff has the unobtrusive, light touch but always there to help thing down pat. It's not cheap. It is worth it. It's the kind of place wealthy and famous people might stay just to lay low in comfort. My wife and I really liked it here.

The perfect staycation! 100% will be back. Enjoyed every minute and moment of my stay. The room size is perfect and the bed was so comfortable. The sunset was beautiful from the pool area and the breakfast was delicious!

Immaculate vibes! Probably my 5th stay here, keeps me coming back. Great location to take the beach or town on foot. Soft sheets, comfy beds, friendly service, beautiful details. What's not to love? 12/10

We recently took a weekend trip to Santa Barbara and ended up staying one night here on the way back to San Diego. The exterior of the hotel is quaint in a sense that it matches in with the surrounding buildings, so it is easy to miss if you're not paying attention. Parking can be difficult to find. When we arrived I ended up having to park in one of the side alleys when I was checking in. Parking is on the street in front of the hotel, the alleyways (one side has 3 bays) and in the back with a small parking lot. I lucked out and ended up taking one of the bays after checking in (photo included). We checked in, the lady at the front desk was nice. She showed us around the hotel, escorted us to our room (Shaws) and gave us two mixed drinks as a welcome. The room was beautiful. I made sure we got a room with an ocean view. Pictures included. The bar is convenient, but a bit expensive. Most mixed drinks are $20, happy hour they're slightly discounted. We ended up just walking to Pavillions a couple blocks east and buying alcohol there. The area is gorgeous, it's Laguna Beach after-all. Being from San Diego, we have been here many times, but it was still fun exploring the nearby community. Urth cafe is a couple blocks east, which is one of our favorite LA/OC area cafes. The bed was ok, a little firm, but the pillows were too soft -- i prefer firmer pillows for support. At night we heard lots of weird sounds coming from the walls, we assumedit was from the plumbing. Not a big deal, we still slept fine. The next morning we went downstairs at 8am and ate breakfast. Breakfast is included and really worth it to try. I ordered Sausage and Eggs, while my partner got French Toast. Beautiful presentation and the they both tasted really good. Bravo. Photos included. Overall, it was a great experience. We had fun, enjoyed watching the sunset and sunrise from our room. Lots of cool shops and of course downtown Laguna Beach is all within walking distance. To really enjoy this experience, I would recommend getting a room with a ocean view. I included a photo of the room layout (for your orientation, the pool is the direction of the ocean). We will be back! thank you for the memories!

If you need a unique, beachy spot to go unplug, I highly recommend Hotel Joaquin! We loved our time here. The staff here is so kind, and our room was amazing. It's a peaceful spot, perfect for a little getaway!

We returned for fourth of July weekend, and had the best time once again. We stayed in a different room with a patio, which we loved. It was the perfect spot to have evening cocktails and morning coffee. We arrived Wednesday before the beaches closed for the holiday weekend, and got to visit Shaw's Cove and Diver's Cove (both nearby) before they were roped off. Even with the beaches closed, there was so much to do. We spent a lot of time at the pool (in the socially distanced daybeds), had a picnic at Heisler Park, took beautiful photos of the beaches from above, and dined at the nearby restaurant patios (Las Brisas and Royal Hawaiian were both wonderful). They even had a special BBQ for their guests on the 4th which was a special touch. The bar was open and both Chody and Frank made incredible cocktails! The Oaxacan on Trinadad is not to be missed. Reed worked by the pool and couldn't have been nicer. And the GM, Reinhard was incredibly kind and accommodating once again. I can't say enough good things about this hotel. With all of our out of state trips, weddings, etc. being cancelled for the year, this is the perfect getaway. We've already booked again for Labor Day weekend. Hotel Joaquin truly is a home away from home.

Here's the "ocean view." Can you see it?
    Andrew J.

Let's start with the positive: good concept (small and chic boutique), good location, well-designed with a modern yet cozy feel, and staff are friendly. This is not a luxury experience but I think most guests (myself included) understand that going in. Parking could be an issue in the summer but I don't even mind that. The reason this hotel gets only two stars is that my guest room (COTE, #27) has a giant (27" x 15") post running right through the middle of it, blocking the ocean view that I paid more for. Seriously, look at the photos. I can't believe they even rent this room out, much less at a premium rate based on a supposed ocean view. The photo of the room on the hotel website does NOT show this post. Although if you look closely at the room's floor plan (also in the website), you'll see the post, you'd never know to look for it. I found this to be fairly deceptive. Stay away from this room, and make sure you tell them you want to avoid it when you book. Revised to 1 star this morning after discovering that there was no hot water. Ran both the shower and faucet independently for several minutes each. Never heated up. Texted the hotel and the response was that they were unaware of any issues but would look into it. So, no shower and no shave this morning. So disappointed with this place.

Is this restaurant open to the public?

If you ask nicely they will, but make sure you call and make a reservation. Tell them Johnny Firecracker sent you.

    Are kid's welcomed?

I'm not sure about children, but I know that the hotel frowns on extraneous apostrophes.

The service was excellent and can see that staff takes great care and attention to making sure everything is taken care of. We very much appreciated all the amenities this inn had to offer such as the welcome drink, evening cookies (delicious!), sauna, sunblock at the pool, towels, lovely breakfast.. all complimentary (breakfast with resort fee). We also appreciated the 10% military discount. We stayed in room 23 which was a standard queen bed with garden view and liked that spot because it felt central, private, and quiet. The room is on the smaller side but it was fine. It does not have a fridge but they provide an ice bucket. We ended up putting our bottled waters on top of the AC box and that kept it cool. Being that the inn is beautifully historic, there weren't many outlets inside the room. The bath robes were very plush. Both lamp shade knobs didn't seem to turn properly but we made it work somehow. Otherwise, we felt well taken care of throughout our stay and so glad we came. Aside from the inn, there is a walk to get to Victoria Beach. We walked south along Coast Highway to Victoria Place and found the underpass from there. We also took the free trolley outside of the hotel to get around town. It could be quite a wait for the trolley as we waited 30 mins. There is a QR code on the sign to track the trolley locations.

I researched every hotel I could find that was within walking distance to the beach in Laguna. I was not sure what to expect since reviews were a little inconsistent. I was very impressed by the ambiance of this hotel! It's gorgeous! It's warm, tropical and beachy. Very unlike a chain hotel. There were a lot of beautiful details that made the hotel unique. The bed was very comfortable too. Our room had direct access to the pool and that was a nice feature. Other reviews mention the high cost, I agree, it was costly with additional fees. However it's not an economy hotel. It's directly on the beach and I expected to pay a premium rate because of that. A welcome note and fruit were left in the room upon arrival. The staff were great, Sam checked us in and he was very sweet. There was another young man with long hair that was also very kind (I didn't get his name, he gave great direction on some local shopping). Cons - Our room was not serviced for our 2 night stay. We removed our dnd sign from 11-3 and no one came. For $600 a night this is wild to me that our mats were still wet and no coffee refilled, I didn't see the cleaning staff once throughout our stay. - There is no true restaurant at this hotel. Bites and drinks but no substantial meals. Wasn't surprising to see takeout bags all throughout the halls. - As others stated $75 a night parking fee is wild but you can take your car out as much as you like since there is no Valet - zero amenities in the room -- you have to pay for toothbrush, no water bottles or even carafes of water. Overall the staff, outside of the lovely check in woman were essentially non existent. No cleaners, and even in the morning there were 2 men but they didn't greet or acknowledge anyone. Again for $300 it would be fine and expected but for $600 and on some days even $1K a night on the 4th of July this is wildly overpriced for what you get.
