I had the good fortune of using a friend's unused week in this timeshare unit. The complex is older and the units are small, with Murphy double beds for sleeping, but the location is to die for! We had Unit 227, which is the only one with its own patio that isn't shared with other guests. It had an amazing view of the water, and we even saw dolphins one day. The staff, especially Rachel, was very helpful, even before we arrived. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because they closed the pool area for a sudden repair. Bear in mind that the units that front Cliff Drive have constant daytime traffic and metered parking, so cars come and go all day, but it wasn't intrusive. This place is reasonably priced and is close to everything, but it is not fancy by any means. There is a free trolley right across Cliff Drive, so you don't need to drive most places. FYI these units are so coveted that we met people who stay there every year, some coming back for over 30 years. That speaks volumes!

After a long argus to the hotel the curves and banking roads leading to the hotel left me in a state of calm. Checking in and Lourdes was as friendly as can be .. the vacation is already starting great. I get to my room... or should I say suite with an ocean view ..... should I leave this beautiful view for the actual beach, or stay sipping scotch, mesmerized by what I could see from my room, am I in Hawaii.... no wait it's it's still California. Then I'm in walking distance of everything I need to get from groceries the beach(very important after the scotch) I forgot to mention the monsoon-esq weather sourthen California was having at the time, good thing for nice big flat screen and fully loaded kitchen, and comfy bed what more could one ask for in a get away

I had the tomato risotto, which was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The fish tacos were also very good. One pleasant surprise was the salsa--it was fresh, flavorful, and had an authentic homemade taste. The mango turmeric lemonade tasted fresh, healthy, and refreshing. What truly made this dining experience special, though, were the magnificent views overlooking the ocean waves. The beautiful scenery elevated the entire meal and made it a memorable experience.

My room appeared to be next to what sounded like a utility or service room, and there was loud equipment noise running throughout the entire night. Sleeping was nearly impossible. I reached out to the hotel by both text and email after my stay and was told the matter would be looked into. It has now been over a week with no follow-up or resolution whatsoever. For the rates Surf & Sand charges, guests should not be placed in rooms with constant overnight noise issues, and concerns should certainly not be ignored afterward. Very disappointing experience from a hotel that presents itself as a luxury property.

The service was excellent and can see that staff takes great care and attention to making sure everything is taken care of. We very much appreciated all the amenities this inn had to offer such as the welcome drink, evening cookies (delicious!), sauna, sunblock at the pool, towels, lovely breakfast.. all complimentary (breakfast with resort fee). We also appreciated the 10% military discount. We stayed in room 23 which was a standard queen bed with garden view and liked that spot because it felt central, private, and quiet. The room is on the smaller side but it was fine. It does not have a fridge but they provide an ice bucket. We ended up putting our bottled waters on top of the AC box and that kept it cool. Being that the inn is beautifully historic, there weren't many outlets inside the room. The bath robes were very plush. Both lamp shade knobs didn't seem to turn properly but we made it work somehow. Otherwise, we felt well taken care of throughout our stay and so glad we came. Aside from the inn, there is a walk to get to Victoria Beach. We walked south along Coast Highway to Victoria Place and found the underpass from there. We also took the free trolley outside of the hotel to get around town. It could be quite a wait for the trolley as we waited 30 mins. There is a QR code on the sign to track the trolley locations.

The rooms had character, a comfy bed, and came equipped with many fun bar items for purchase. It was a bit musty but I think that is expected with being so close to the beach. One of my favorite parts of the hotel that was unexpected was the free breakfast. The breakfast was seated with a server where we had many options from a delicious, light, and healthy menu. Definitely recommend Casa Laguna for a celebration, staycation, or a relaxing weekend getaway. :)

We got lucky with the weather and spent 2 days by the pool. Our kids enjoyed jumping in, splashing each other and playing with the pool toys provided by the staff. It was also a nice break for the hard working mommy and daddy, who just wanted to chill. We got a chance to tan in the sun, swim, sip on some micheladas from the pool-side bar and enjoy some great food by the pool as well. We ordered a cheese quesadilla that came with salsa, guac and sour cream for the dipping and we ordered a bowl of their hummus, which came with grilled pita bread and a variety of ripe veggies that we dipped into the hummus. Both dishes were freshly made and were incredibly delicious. And I can't say enough about the service provided at this hotel-- just phenomenal. If you need something, the employees sense it and make sure to satisfy those wants or needs. We loved our stay here and we'll definitely be back for more!

I am writing to express my disappointment regarding my recent stay at Waldorf Astoria Monarch beach…read moreresort at Dana Point. Unfortunately, the experience fell far below the standards I would expect from a five-star luxury property. First, we made a dinner reservation at one of the resort's restaurants - Monarch beach club, only to be informed upon arrival that service would not be available due to a power outage. While unforeseen circumstances can happen, there was no proactive communication provided to guests, leaving us scrambling to make alternative arrangements. Second, the shuttle transportation service was extremely inefficient. We waited for over an hour before being able to board a shuttle. Such excessive delays are unacceptable, especially at a luxury resort where guests expect reliable transportation and a seamless experience. Most disappointing was the check-in process. The published check-in time is 4 PM, yet we were still being told at 4:45 PM that our room was not ready. Waiting an additional minutes beyond the stated check-in time significantly impacted our plans and enjoyment of the property. After a long day of travel, being unable to access our room for such an extended period is simply unacceptable. Taken together, these issues created a frustrating and disappointing experience that is inconsistent with the reputation and premium rates associated with the Waldorf Astoria brand. A delayed room, transportation failures, and the inability to honor dining reservations due to a lack of communication reflect a serious breakdown in guest service. As it stands, this was one of the most disappointing luxury hotel experiences I have encountered, and it did not come close to meeting the standards expected from a five-star resort. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing in several areas. The room was not very clean when we arrived. We found leftover drinks and cups that had been squeezed and stuffed inside the safe, and the air vents were noticeably dirty, which caused us to sneeze throughout our stay. Pool service was also difficult to find, and it seemed like the hotel could really benefit from having more staff. Additionally, the elevator made a very loud and disturbing noise every time the doors opened and closed, which was concerning. Overall, the location and views are definitely highlights, but the cleanliness, maintenance, and service need significant improvement.
