Let me start by saying The Tides is an absolute hidden gem. We've stayed here a few times, and each stay has been wonderful. The hotel is just a few minutes' walk to the beach and Heisler Park, which offers stunning views. The hotel even provides beach chairs to take with you, a thoughtful touch. Downtown Laguna Beach, with its shops and restaurants, is about a 10-minute walk away. We love that the pool is always perfectly refreshing and saltwater. Each room has its own personality, with unique layouts and charming beach decor. Every room we've stayed in has been clean and comfortable. We're always so impressed with the staff, from the housekeeping team to management. They are genuinely accommodating and want every guest to feel at home, which is exactly how we feel, so much so that we've often extended our stay by a day. Another huge plus is that this hotel is pet-friendly, which is important to us. Overall, this place is a perfect combination of comfort, charm, and exceptional hospitality. The Tides is in an excellent location, across the street from the wonderful Heisler Park and walking distance to just about any place you would want to visit. The housekeeper is excellent. My room was extremely clean for the duration of my stay. The gentleman who checked me out at the end of my stay was very pleasant. However, I am only giving three stars because first impressions are lasting and the woman who was working the Office check-in desk when I arrived made me feel like an annoyance who was interrupting her work. She was efficient but less than welcoming during the check-in process. Unfortunately, I had to interact with this woman two more times during my stay and each interaction was equally unpleasant. My goal in staying at The Tides was to destress but she made me feel like "Bad Dog". Soon after checking in, I had to return to the Office to ask for assistance with accessing the WiFi and a day later, I had to ask for assistance with accessing the pool. I assumed that I needed to use my hotel key to open the gate to the pool. The Office woman made me feel like a fool when she rolled her eyes and said in a tone that I interpreted as exasperated, "There's a latch at the upper top corner of the gate." She was right. There was a latch but it was painted the same color as the gate and I didn't notice it. I only noticed the key hole. My bad. As I floated in the pool, I said to myself, "You are Bad Dog." Someone needs to explain to this Office woman that without these pesky visitors, her business will have no customers and she will have no job. read more

I booked through a third-party so maybe that's why my request for "quietest room" got ignored? When I checked in, they told me I would be in room 105. I asked if I could be moved to a second floor room and explained that I had already requested a quiet room. (First-floor rooms tend to be riddled with over-head noise.) I was assured that room 105 was quiet. It wasn't. Not at all. Not even a little. Since I doubt a herd of elephants was staying in the room above me (what it sounded like) I am convinced the floors and walls are paper thin. Room 105 is right next door to the housekeeping room (also not quiet). AND the parking for check-in is directly in front of the room. Again, not quiet. The location is AMAZING! Two stars for that! My room was dated, but very clean. One star for that. read more

Paid for a suite with kitchen and while we liked the fridge and microwave, we experienced some pretty big issues with the room itself. The overall look and feel of the room was extremely dated, think 70s vibe, and we could barely get in/out of the shower because it was so tiny. Lastly, we had someone in the next room who was experiencing some pretty horrid sleep apnea so we didn't get any sleep because the walls were paper thin and could hear his every attempt at breathing to stay alive. The location being so close to Shaw's was nice but we'll likely avoid this place going forward and will probably look at South Laguna. read more

I stayed here recently when I was in town for an event at Royal Hawaiian. Score! It's two blocks away which i didn't know when I booked. Super cute and quaint little motel. We stayed in two rooms throughout the stay. First day a small room with an ocean view. Second day a way larger room on the first floor which we preferred. Very quiet, cute and clean motel. Very nice staff. Only downside is there is no jacuzzi. read more

I loved my stay here in November! Room 209 was quite comfortable with 2 beds and a great kitchenette. The sheets and towels were awesome and the bathroom toiletries were very nice. The location is top notch / easy walk to the beach, village and even the supermarket. Desk staff were so helpful with restaurant recommendations which were also so walkable! The location was great. The room was priced well. The hotel was cute. The room was cute. I got a thank you card and some welcome cookies and water upon arrival into the room. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was meh. There was a microwave and everything I could possibly want. Parking was cramped and creepy. So why am I giving this place 3 stars? I felt like I was living in some bad Airbnb commercial. I came here to get away and relax from a stressful month. Since I have family out here, it is a nice getaway. I arrived to screaming kids in the pool. That wasn't the problem by itself--the problem was that they were joined by screaming parents and the family took over the pool for five or six hours. I don't see how anyone else could have gone to the pool to relax, swim, or use it at all. When I went out to talk to the front office, one of the family members approached me and called me sweetheart, and asked if I was the person delivering their food. In the morning things were not much better. I cannot recommend this hotel based on my experience. I did have a good experience with the Costa Art Hotel up the road. I come to this area a few times a year and I will continue to use that hotel instead. Their pool is separate from the hotel area, so it is a much better layout. If you want to take the risk hearing 5-6 hours of screaming from the same family, maybe The Tides is the right place for you. Of note, the staff at The Tides Hotel were exceptionally nice people. Perfect Room 214 upstairs had a view of the ocean, plus you could hear the waves. The room was clean, comfortable with a shower that had strong water pressure - nice & hot. There was shower gel, shampoo & conditioner. Mattress was firm (not hard) - great for my back. Functional kitchen: mini fridge, microwave, Keurig w pods, sugar, cream & bagel sized toaster. Heated pool was nice. Meaningful touches: warm room; 2 bottles of water; cookies; earplugs; personalized welcome note - definitely loved the note Vehicle stayed parked. Location was convenient with everything in walking distance: beach, Heisler Park, art museum, galleries, downtown shops & eateries. There was a free trolley but walking was fun & very easy. Laguna Beach was festive, beautifully decorated with lights for Christmas . It was a lively, holiday atmosphere but not crowded. We planned for 1 night but extended for 3 nights. We felt at HOME. Anderson was an Outstanding host. He was very hospitable & accommodating to our needs. read more

Cozy older motel offering clean rooms that are dog friendly & near Heiser park & the best of Laguna Beach, Nice pool & communal fireplace area. Well run & well located on the N. Coast Highway although it can be very noisy. The only rooms I do not recommend are on the street level , noisy, dark basement rooms with little light and lots of noise from your neighbors above. We spent our first night in one of these and requested a room change the following morning. We were pleasantly surprised that they could accommodate us and our new room which was across from the pool made the rest of our stay much more desirable. read more

I might stay here again. It is close to a great cafe. Urth Cafe, it is close to the beach, it walkable and pretty quiet. The only thing I didn't like was the shower in Room 202 is soooo small. You can't turn around in it and around the tile/metal on the door had mold in some spots. Maybe because you can't get it to clean properly . It was expensive for an older hotel but its proximity to everything we needed made it worth the money. read more

First the good news - the location is great. Close to the ocean and the wonderful oceanfront parks. Also a short walk to downtown LB and the many restaurants and shops. The staff is super friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. The prices are reasonable and the pool area is very inviting. Now for the not so good. Our room 206, while relatively quiet since it was a bit further from the very busy PCH is in need of major updating. This isn't shabby chic but worn out and tired. The shower head was broken and hanging down, you had to jiggle the toilet handle to stop it from running, the light fixtures are rusty, the frig and AC were loud. I guess this is why this place is relatively inexpensive for the pricey LB but a bit of reno would really help. read more

My wife and I spent the weekend here while visiting our daughter in nearby Dana Point. It's best to approach the hotel from the south on PCH. Parking is extremely tight with limited spaces. The several times we came and went though we always found a place to park. Our corner room had most everything we needed including a soft and comfy king size bed, refrigerator, hair dryer and a walk-in shower. There were signs though of water damage on the ceiling and the melamine closet was warped and in need of replacing. Our two nights though were relaxing and we slept well. The surprise though is their awesome pool area. We had no idea it was so nice in there until we walked through the gate and looked around. There were numerous chaise lounges, a bar with stools, pool toys in a box all surrounding a salt water pool. Tucked into a corner was an outdoor gas fireplace that we enjoyed both evenings we were there. There were overhead party lights that provided a nice ambiance to it all. Well done. read more

Recently stayed at The Tides Laguna Beach, the best thing about the place was the location and the pool was heated. The room could have been used a better cleaning and there are certainly things that need to be replaced like the rusted shower curtain rod and the rusted light fixture in the restroom. The bed was somewhat comfortable but it could have been that I was just exhausted from a long day. I have had worse experiences at other hotels but until they get their act together here, I probably won't be staying here again. read more

Booked on our way into town and arrived just before 10pm. The property was unlit, and the office was closed, locked and unlit. On a Friday night. I knocked and knocked and called the booking number . No response. I asked for a credit and was told no. Anderson said "someone was on the property" ... ok. Was I supposed to walk the property searching for someone to greet us at 945pm? Do not stay here. So many other options . We walked across the street and were greeted with a warm well lit office . Also warm cookies and a smiling receptionist who walked us to our room . Room 214 is spacious and the bed is very comfortable no matter if your head is towards head board or at the foot of the bed. The wooden chairs and tables fit our pizza box and we sat with 2 plates and soda bottles with no problem. The kitchenette had 2 glasses and a couple plates. 2 coffee mugs and 2 bottles of water complimentary. Our fridge was clean and working. Spooky painting inside the room {doesn't face the bed but its weird}. The toilet is extremely small and low to the ground and not 5'9 friendly at all. The sink and the shower are also miniature. Parking spots were spacious and most were visible from our door. Drink and snack vending machines were on site. Friendly staff. read more

Cute little inn of Laguna Beach. Rooms very beachy, cozy and clean. Great pool area, outdoor fire place, but would have loved a hot tub. Location is right at one end of the main strip of Laguna Beach. It was perfect, we Ubered to the other end and walked our way back, stopping at art galleries, shops, stopped for a drink (or two) and took a walk on the beach. Staff is very friendly, check-in process smooth and they offer many brochures, discounts, etc. all around Laguna Beach. I would for sure stay again; loved our stay! read more

Along the jewel-studded stretch of coast that is South Orange County lies Laguna Beach, where winter days see blue skies and highs in the 60s and 70s and people seem to live in a bubble of halcyon days. There are a dozen-odd major hotel properties and scores of smaller places to stay - among them, The Tides. It's a gussied-up motel property that's been well taken care of and offers a quality stay at a budget price point. Recently we searched for last-minute openings in Laguna Beach for a Friday one-night stay, dog friendly. Of the lodging choices we found, The Tides was about 30% cheaper than its closest competitor (price-wise) and less than half the going rate of most places. Ever wonder about the "resort" you're paying daily resort fees for when it's more of a motor lodge? Or the $20 and up daily parking, $75 pet fee and more? The Tides does none of that. Of course, remember you're not staying at Montage and temper your expectations with the price! The room? Ours was comfortable, very clean, large shower with an amazing showerhead and lots of hot water. Some of the parking is covered. Recommend you enter coming northbound off of PCH, and exit thru the back of the property into the alley. Easy peasy. We'll try it again next time we're in town. Enjoy! read more

We had the absolute best stay on 4/29. All three individuals with the hotel that we interacted with were super friendly, helpful and professional. Loved our room, which had everything that we needed, plus more. They upgraded us and had a handwritten note along with two bottles of water waiting for us at check in. This place is a charming escape for a family of four to get away for a few days and enjoy the beach. Our little "apartment style" place had a fully equipped kitchen and two BIG closets. (One being a walk-in!) ... Our girls loved the swimming pool that had fountains shooting into the water and my husband and I loved the fireplace to eat our dinner and watch the girls swim. The staff was so accommodating and came out to bring us pool towels so we didn't have to use their nice white ones. Another perk: being walking distance to Pavillions and Asada. You never know when you need something. Including a delicious veggie taco. Thank you again for having us and we look forward to our next visit. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this hotel! I was looking for a nice, clean, affordable place to go on a little couples' getaway where we'd be able to take our dog along and The Tides delivered! The pet fee was $25 a night which I found to be very reasonable, especially for just a short trip. Our room was spotless, everything worked very well, and we really appreciated having the kitchen and dining area, especially so we could take advantage of the nice, VERY clean grill out by the pool for dinner on our last night. The kitchen had everything we needed to do that. The pool was also pristine and the perfect temperature. The hotel provides towels, beach chairs, and umbrellas which was very helpful. Also, the location is perfect! Just a block across the street was a nice park and beach, and the main beach and shops were a short 10-15 minute walk away. Such great value for a nice price! The only things that were slightly unpleasant were the beds in our double room; they could definitely use an upgrade as they were a little small for two people to sleep comfortably. They seemed to sink in in the middle and were pretty squeaky so my boyfriend moving around just slightly would wake me up. Also, our room faced the street in front of the hotel which was only an issue for us because of (I think?) the hotel's lights out front that would come in through the window at night - it was just enough that we would wake up and think it was early morning all throughout the night. We put a blanket over it the second night which solved that but it would have been nice to have some curtains. Those are my only two suggestions and honestly those things really did not stop us from having a great weekend in large part due to the nice amenities offered by The Tides! The inn had everything I needed for a short stay. It's right across Heisler Park. There's plenty of free parking. The price was less than neighboring hotels and there were no additional "resort fees." The room was clean. The tv had a bunch of channels. The customer service was great. (I left an electronic device in the room and they kept it safe then mailed it back to me.) The only issues are that you can hear your neighbors quite easily, and you may need to go through a lot of traffic to get here. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and wouldn't mind coming back. read more

I am giving this a generous 3 star. I truly believe the staff had good intentions they were incredible hosts. But because of our Anniversary they upgraded us to a room with a kitchenette Nice gesture but the room had a small kitchen table with very uncomfortable chairs and then a twin bed as a place to sit to watch tv and the tv was a tiny 35 inch kinda flat screen that had horrible reception. Our bed was as old as the building at least 50 years old the tv in there was packed into this little hole so it would overheat and not work after 45 min Location awesome Staff first rate WiFi was good Owner needs to upgrade if they are going to charge 340 bucks a night read more

If I could give them more then 5 stars I would!! Went here for a couple day family get away with about 7 of us, including our family dog. We got 3 rooms. Anderson and team gave top notch service and continually met our families needs with a kind smile. This place is so homey, some have full kitchens too which was great because we cooked the whole time we were there. They have a great heated salt water pool with a large bbq, and fire pit with relaxing furniture to enjoy watching the fire poolside. The beach is about a 5 minute walk. I must say this is my favorite laguna hotel now! We absolutely loved everything about the tides and can't wait to go back!! The personal touches are something you just don't see anymore. A pleasantly quaint place.. perfect for the Easter weekend. We were greeted very warmly by Sheryl. We even received a sweet welcome card from the staff. The room we got had some view of the beach- which was just a few minutes walk from the hotel. We love the display of plate collection accenting the room, which adds to its unique character. This room was perfect for a family of 4, it has a dining area and a kitchen too . Based on the reviews we have read, it can be noisy at night, but it wasn't during our stay. Definitely a wonderful place to go back to once we go back in the area. read more

We have stayed here, renting 3 rooms every summer for several years after our previous spot fell by the wayside. The customer service is unmatched, they are such exceptional hosts truly going above and beyond to its such kindness for the experience from first conversation to final check out. The rooms are always very clean. Each room has some slight personal touch to it but doesn't feel crowded with furniture or decor. The pool is great, clean with a nice spacious deck space around it. We have been coming to the Tides for many years and haven't been back since Covid. We recently returned and it really felt like coming back home to our dear "Laguna Getaway" again! The new owners have really kept up the hotel and have continued to preserve the Tides vibe. The pool area has been refreshed & the rooms are still warm & cozy. It seems as if there have been some other improvements over the past few years as well. We once again enjoyed hanging out at the fireplace area at night with our family who also stayed here with us. The staff was very accommodating and Anderson was once again very warm & welcoming which really added to the overall positive experience. We're already planning our next visit!! read more

We really enjoyed our stay at the Tides. It's right on the PCH but traffic noise was not bad. You do hear a bit of your neighbors at times so the gifted ear plugs and the white-noise use of the window unit came in handy occasionally. You're a quick walk across the street to Heisler Park and Diver's Cove and the staff lend you lawn chairs, beach towels and umbrellas if you need them (great, $-saving touch). The staff/management are super friendly and helpful. Rooms are smallish but all you really need. In room Keurig, fridge, great water pressure, thorough cleaning, etc. The location is also good for walking to nearby coffee and dining options as well as to shuttle stops to get anywhere else in Laguna you want to go. And the price, at least when we went, can't be beat. Would definitely stay again if in the area. read more

Stood at THE TIDES for 4th of July this year first off if You want a front row view for fireworks this is the place to stay. It's a nice standard room with a kitchen I stood in room 204 upstairs. They also have a nice heated pool with lots of seating. 2 things I had problems with parking is tight and narrow. 2nd I feel cleaning should have been a little better it wasn't terrible but for what u pay for especially a holiday I felt it should have been better .I'll stay here again read more
