I had the tomato risotto, which was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The fish tacos were also very good. One pleasant surprise was the salsa--it was fresh, flavorful, and had an authentic homemade taste. The mango turmeric lemonade tasted fresh, healthy, and refreshing. What truly made this dining experience special, though, were the magnificent views overlooking the ocean waves. For the reputation and pricing of Surf & Sand, this experience was extremely disappointing. The staff was professional and courteous throughout my stay, which makes it even more frustrating that the overall experience fell so far short. My room appeared to be next to what sounded like a utility or service room, and there was loud equipment noise running throughout the entire night. Sleeping was nearly impossible. I reached out to the hotel by both text and email after my stay and was told the matter would be looked into. It has now been over a week with no follow-up or resolution whatsoever. For the rates Surf & Sand charges, guests should not be placed in rooms with constant overnight noise issues, and concerns should certainly not be ignored afterward. Very disappointing experience from a hotel that presents itself as a luxury property. read more

Location was amazing with great views of the beach. Our server was so kind and attentive. Although great location, the food was sub par for its prices (I paid 45 with no drink or app). My Halibut Tacos were described as fresh with a tang through the mango salsa but I was met with a chewy oily tortilla that overpowered any flavor the fish had to offer. The chips and salsa ratio was unbalanced as well as i ran out of salsa within the first two bites. Our server although attentive, was not very timely and forgetful as well. Our table had sent back a burger and both times it was served it was well done and not the medium rare as requested. A drink served far after our food was done and when I requested for more salsa for my chips they were simply taken away and the salsa never arrived! If you want a nice view with a cocktail this is the place but for the price I honestly would not dine here again. read more

We had the most wonderful weekend in Laguna. Staff went out of their way to be extra friendly and accommodating. I was nervous for our first vacation with our 11 month old baby but I had nothing to worry about. The staff gave us a crib, a kettle for warming bottles, and smiled and laughed every time my baby made a huge mess for every meal at Splashes which was also so delicious. The automatic shade in the room darkened the room and my baby slept soundly even when it was sunny. Our king bed was so comfy. Get an oceanfront room and fall asleep to the sound of the waves. The staff set up beach chairs on our beach day with a smile and on pool day staff regularly freshened up our towels and cocktails. We were randomly surprised with free things all weekend, like cake, ice cream, chocolates, a beach bag, and even the musician at the terrace sang to my baby and gave him a toy. It was so special. Where do I even start? Surf & Sand Resort was everything I hoped it would be ... and more. We booked just one night on 3/21/26, and honestly, I'm already wishing it had been longer. From the moment we arrived to the very last second of our stay, the service was nothing short of phenomenal. Valet, check-in, room service, pool staff, etc. Every single person we encountered made us feel genuinely welcomed. A special shoutout to Splashes Restaurant. Their brunch was easily one of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. And then... the room. Management graciously upgraded us to the penthouse, and I was completely speechless. The ocean views alone were unforgettable. To make it even more special, the room was beautifully set up with flower petals and candles everywhere. Tt felt incredibly romantic and thoughtful, and truly elevated our anniversary celebration. My wife's reaction was worth it all! My wife and I also treated ourselves to a spa day, and it was just as incredible. Lana was my therapist, and her hands were magic. I've had plenty of massage therapists in my life, but she has to be the best one yet. As a blue-collar worker, I carry a lot of tension, and she left me feeling amazing after our appointment. This is like my favourite short distance get away to decompress. We have stayed here many times. I usually celebrate my birthday here. I love how the water is right below us. They gave this hotel a whole new makeover. That also means the room rates went up to double what we used to pay. The lobby now opens up to a beautiful view of the ocean. The rooms are really nice. We always request for the same room every time. Great view of the ocean and spectacular sunsets from your balcony and bedroom. Big sunken tub, spacious shower, and separate toilet which is always a plus. They offer free coffee and water in the rooms. Everyone from the valet, front desk, the hostesses, the servers in the restaurant Splashes, the in-room dining staff, and the housekeeping crew are all amazing and friendly. If you've never stayed in this hotel before - I highly recommend you give it a try. You will want to go back again and again. We had our wedding here on June 1st. I believe we were the second wedding right after they completed renovations. There were quite a few hiccups when it came to nailing down which reception and cocktail hour space we would have which was stressful. However, the shining beacon in all of this was their catering manager/event coordinator Tiffany! She was literally like my fairy god mother of the wedding. She was so proactive in her communication, such an incredibly genuine sweetheart she made the whole experience amazing! She made sure everyone knew the proper timing of events and that everything was running smoothly. I really cannot thank her enough for all of her help on the day off, her quick responsiveness to concerns I had throughout the day. We kept thing very simple, we wanted the location and beauty of the venue to shine. They really pretty much provide everything you need for your wedding. We are a low key couple and don't like too much decoration so just some florals and petals and we were all set. The resort is stunning the location cannot be beat and we had a magical day from start to finish. Every single team member at Surf and Sand was so nice and lovely we really cannot say enough about it. They were friendly, attentive and went above and beyond to accommodate guests needs. ***The only suggestion is to provide complimentary freshly brewed coffee in the morning and serve it in the lobby. Almost all high end resorts provide coffee free of charge. They have a coffee shop on the property and a small cup was $6 and large cup $8. No free refills. We spent $40 daily on coffee. From the moment you walk into your room and the blinds automatically open up to give you the most beautiful ocean view, to the comfy beds and pillows (I really want to find out how to buy these pillows...please help me), to all little switches that control every aspect of the room including a night light for the bathroom. We have been coming to this beautiful hotel for 12 years, this is the first time after the remodel, rooms are beautiful, service was excellent as usual, front desk was the best it's ever been, but the food at the pool is a downgrade, they got rid of the chicken nachos which were the best thing on the menu, also they change up the fish tacos that were not as good as the old menu! So that was a major disappointment. Over we love the new rooms ! I am writing this review to help others be aware of the safety and security that this hotel has in placed for guests. And the horrible service we received after the incident. I booked this hotel to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was an overnight stay as the rooms are very pricey. I booked the Oceanview King and additional celebratory add ons like the wine and chocolates (w/ an additional fee of course!) to get the best possible stay and experience. We arrived on the 6th of November last year. Right after we checked in we headed to Splashes restaurant an early dinner celebration. After the dinner we are heading back to our room, we are kind of lost because the way the hotel was constructed we are supposed to be on the other side of the building. As we are trying to look for our room, we are in the middle of 4th and 5th floor, and realized we need to go back where we came from as we are in the wrong building. My husband went first and as soon as he turned back and go down the stairs he slipped and he never get the chance to grab the railings. There is a smooth silver metal on each step and that caused him to slip, the railings are also damp and wet. He fell down as soon as he turned and move his leg from top to bottom stairs. There is 7 steps coming down the stairway, his cellphone was on his back pocket and after the incident his phone is warped and bent. I yelled and a housekeeper/ worker came in rushing. He also mentioned a lot fell down on the same stair esp his co-workers. He called the security and a guy came to check my husband at the scene of the accident. He asked questions and headed us back to our room. We were given ice bucket in our room instead of ice packets to tend his bruises. The security guy came with another guy ( that looks like head of security) and brought the ice packets, They asked us again a lot of questions and asked us to sign paper which they mentioned part of the incident report. They checked the shoes we wore and even the head of the security made a remark that we had good shoes.It has grip on it. When my husband mentioned his phone and what can we do about it, the other guy mentioned that if we have insurance Apple can replace it for us. They did not offer to bring my husband to the emergency or medical attention ( aside from the ice packet). Before the two security left they mentioned they will check back on him before checking out or leaving tomorrow. We stayed all night on our bed, tending my husband and we were not able to view the sun set. The day came and we checked out. No one came to our room to check on my husband. I even received a message that I can check out thru the app but we decided to come down and personally check out and talk to someone. When we were at the reception the lady who checked us out asked about our stay and I looked at my husband and he told the lady about our experience. The lady at the reception said "sorry about that and that is why you need to grab the railings" We did not appreciate that remark esp if we already told her that my husband slipped as soon as he turned .The railings are wet and damp even the stairs. I have attached photo to show how wet and damp the stairs were. There was no sign for "WET FLOORS" NOTHING! Please take note we paid in full for our bills during check out. We even mentioned someone should be making a follow up check up with my husband but no one came. NO manager on duty came, and no follow up. As to this writing, my husband has been doing treatments, he had CT scan and MRI on his legs, elbow and back. He is schedule for Orthopedic next week. I regret booking this hotel because instead of having a wonderful experience it costs my husband's health and our money. The way the hotel handled this incident is nothing but SHORT!!!!!!!!!! This has been a nightmare and I would have given it zero star but it won't allow me and minimum is 1. Please be aware in going and coming down the stairs or even walking in the facility. They don't care about safety. And as long as I have the voice I will tell anyone I know not to come to this place. I hope this review is helpful to people who are thinking to book in this resort/hotel. Our experience is something to be learnt and a lesson we will take for the rest of our lives. read more

This is where I got proposed to--right on the beach--which made the trip unforgettable. I can honestly say this was the best stay and the best trip of my life. A huge thank you (first and foremost - glory to God) and to Chris for helping make it so special! The views were absolutely stunning, the hotel was spotless, and the staff was so accommodating--they even brought us water bottles whenever we called and requested it. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and falling asleep with the windows open while listening to the waves crash was pure perfection. If you gave me the choice between a trip to Italy or staying at Surf & Sand, I wouldn't hesitate for a second--I'd choose Surf & Sand every time. Fantastic Remodel! We sure did miss you... This is certainly our favorite Semi-Staycation spot. S & S is simply breathtaking, relaxing and a fantastic place to decompress! From the time we checked in to the day we checked out, the staff (with the exception of cleaning our room and the App not working, per housekeeping) was on point, punctual, smiled and extremely professional. Valet was always quick, bell service was pleasant, front desk happy to help and pool staff was FANTASTIC. Will, Tiffany and Daniel went above and beyond! Room service was a tad slow, food lukewarm but tasted excellent. It was mother's day weekend, pretty busy. Unfortunately, the Surfside room area behind the building was still being Remodeled and both elevators were broken all 3 days. Front desk did give us a resort credit which was nice, we appreciated it. Our room was not made up the day we asked per the app, a tad upsetting. I lived in Laguna in the 90s and would often go to the top of the Surf & Sand for dinner. Staying there was a dream of mine. Now that I can afford to stay a few nights at this newly renovated resort, I have to say how disappointed I was. I'm basing much of this review on the price per night vs. the overall experience. I expected the "wow" factor. Instead, I had to lug my suitcase up the steps to reach the lobby area. The phone in the room didn't work and would make a dial tone sound even after unplugging the phone jack. None of the staff went out of their way to make it an exceptional experience. Even more distressing, I filled out an opinion card saying these exact things, and I was never contacted by the "resort" management. Beaches in Laguna are some of the best in Orange County, in my opinion. You don't get any closer to the ocean than when you stay at Surf & Sand! It's a classic, well-know resort with great service. The staff were very accommodating and upgraded us to a suite free of charge. Beautiful room with breathtaking views. You could hear the sound of the waves from the bedroom, with the doors closed! So peaceful. Bedding and pillows were excellent, and we slept comfortably. The air was a bit dry in the room, and felt a little musty at times. Might've been better to sleep with the door open, but my anxiety gets the best of me. Loved the shower and the jet tub jacuzzi. Lots of space to get ready and do my makeup as well. Loved the sitting area outside and inside. The 8 am yoga was also great, with a skilled and happy instructor. It was awesome doing yoga by the sea! Pool was also nice, but it was just too cold to do anything. It's also very small and easy for the hot tub to get too crowded. Splashes restaurant is excellent and definitely a must see. Chefs are outstanding. Get dessert! The areas for improvement are access to food or snacks after 9:00 pm. Laguna is a sleepy town, so on Sunday there were only a couple nearby places open (go to taco loco!). Would've been nice to stay in the room and get room service or a snack from a late night bar. The minibar and snacks in the room were a nice touch, but just not enough since we hadn't had dinner. Also, it was difficult to find areas to plug in and charge our phones. One alarm clark with convenient plug ins, but nothing for the other side of the bed. There was an outlet wedged between the bed and the wall that you can't access. So please include another alarm clark or some other options for the second guest to plug in their phone. In addition, the hotel is a bit of a maze with lots of levels and stairs. Hard to navigate at night, and took us a while to figure out where our room was located. The little breakfast cafe was nice, but forewarning if you show up around 9:00 am you'll be waiting at least 30 minutes for the line itself and getting your coffee and breakfast. They are limited on staff and not a lot they can do during a rush. In hindsight, it would've been better if I'd walked right across the street to the local cafe and coffee shop. Overall, an excellent and memorable stay. Really enjoyed our time. read more

Hello, last Saturday, February 15, my son stayed at the hotel to propose to his girlfriend. I arrived early to decorate the room with flowers, etc. The entire hotel staff helped me so much, from the valet to the housekeeping staff. The receptionist was incredible--honestly, everyone was 100% amazing. A five-star hotel is not made by luxury but by the attention and service you receive. Honestly, this hotel deserves seven stars! Possible this is a Romantic destination with relaxing uninterrupted views of the ocean. However, I was here solo for a work event. Upon arriving at 10pm there was no room service. The only options were the mini bar which would only open with a key- and keys were in limited supply. The ocean sounds on the 2nd floor were slightly too loud for a sleep lullaby. They might sound better on a higher floor than one against a retaining wall. read more

We have known and loved Surf and Sand Laguna Beach for more than 15 years. However, in the past three years, this resort has been undergoing major renovation. So, at the beginning of February 2026, we came back for a couple of days to Surf and Sand to celebrate my husband's birthday, and we were absolutely blown away by all the changes. The rooms look beautiful, the bedding is very comfortable, the view from the ocean front suite is mind-blowing, the pool is just perfect, and the beach is absolutely stunning, especially when the sun goes down. The staff is as always super friendly, accommodative and very focused on details. They are eager to help with anything you need. We are local, so we know the area well, which makes it easy for us to choose the right option for the dining. However, we love to dine at the Splash restaurant, located on the first floor of the main building of Surf and Sand. The service at the restaurant is impeccable, the food is really delicious, and the presentation is beautiful. We are recommending Surf and Sand for anyone who is looking for a great resort to stay in this stunning location. read more

Beautiful but a bit overpriced. The ocean front rooms are stunning! Plus, they deliver you chocolate, waters, and linen spray every night. It was definitely a luxurious experience. Throughout our stay we experienced some issues with the room + there's a lot of construction going on. It set off the fire alarm at one point and led to closed down stair wells and a broken elevator. Overall really nice! Just quite expensive for all the construction. read more
