This hotel is further into town, away from the ferry terminal and most of the shops - our room was very quiet at night, even though we were in a room that was next to the street. We had a room with a king bed, and it was clean and spacious enough for two people to stay in for a few days without feeling cramped. While the parts of the hotel and the main part of the room were nicely updated, our bathroom showed signs of aging and wouldn't hurt to be updated - shower tiles were starting to crack, the faucet in both the shower and in the sink were outdated - the water flowed out as a spray, so anytime you washed your hands or brushed your teeth etc, water got everywhere on the counter and on you. Their rooftop jacuzzi was also open at the time we went - they provided you with towels for the jacuzzi at no cost to you if you returned them after which was nice. The jacuzzi was very relaxing, but once again, wouldn't hurt to be updated to fit with the style/price of the hotel. The staff were incredibly nice and welcoming, there was always someone available at the front desk at all hours of the day to help or give recommendations. They were also nice enough to store our luggage at the hotel for us the day we checked out until our ferry arrived, so we didn't have to bring our luggage everywhere with us. I think the room is slightly overpriced for what we did end up getting - however, to stay on Catalina island is expensive, so you are going to pay a higher price for a hotel then you normally would on the mainland. When they resume their continental breakfast again, I would say that the price would be worth it. All things considered, if I came back to Catalina, I would probably stay here again. read more

Such a shame this Veronica lady takes no pride, has no humility, or any integrity to address the concerns of visitor complaints. Well Veronica, hopefully one day you'll look in the mirror and say to yourself " I don't want to live my life with a lack of morals or integrity." I have traveled to Avalon many times, and usually stay in a rental home or The Pavillion Hotel. Because we wanted a last minute getaway, The Metropole was the only one with availability. I was very familiar with the location and based on reviews, we booked a weekend stay for our family of 4 (my husband and two teenagers, aged 14 and 16). I will preface my review by saying that, especially during the summertime, it is very difficult to find a hotel at a decent price. So hotels charge luxury hotel prices because they can, but my experience so far is that while I have stayed in very nice rooms and had luxury service at some of the places I have stayed, for almost $400 a night you are not staying at The Peninsula. It's supply and demand and if you're judging value for money, it will be tough to find in the summer in Avalon. We arrived before the 3 pm check in on a Saturday, so we left our bags with the bellman and headed out for a hike and lunch. When we got back to the hotel around 2:30, our room was ready and our bags were already brought up which was a nice touch. Our room was great, it was big, there were hardwood floors (great news for people who may have allergies), the beds were comfortable, linens were nice and we had a fireplace. The rooms are air conditioned, although powered by a unit that is a bit noisy. We had a balcony with two chairs and a small table that overlooked the Metropole Marketplace and even a hint of an ocean view, it was very charming. I loved the noise from the Marketplace and left our door open to hear the gentleman singing, and on Saturday night there was a band in the courtyard as well. I think all of that added to the charm of the hotel. We were told there would be wine and cheese in the lobby from 4-6 and it was there on Saturday, but not on Sunday. I wish we would have known this, as we came back early on Sunday evening hoping to have a glass of wine. It was nice, although not quite as nice as the wine and cheese hour at the Pavillion as there really isn't much common space where it is served and the selection was pretty basic. We took our wine up to the 4th floor on Saturday and went to the jacuzzi, which was empty so we had it to ourselves as we took in the view. Continental breakfast is served in the same manner and place as the wine and cheese hour, and is similarly basic and not that well stocked (aside from delicious strawberries!) I heard a man ask for yogurt and bagels and he was told they were out of them, even though it was only 9 am. We did have excellent service from the women who took care of our room. I asked for extra towels and a pillow, it was brought right to me. I also asked for some extra shampoo and conditioner and was taken care of right away. The products in the bathroom by the way, are amazing. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and loved the rooms and the helful staff and would stay here again, but maybe in the off season when it wasn't so expensive. If you could combine this hotel with the amenities of the Pavillion Hotel, it would be incredible. read more

I'm not one to write negative reviews, I am a firm believer that everyone has a bad day and that it shouldn't reflect on the business as a whole, but as someone who travels weekly for work, I felt the need to review Hotel Metropole. I came to Hotel Metropole for a family reunion my mom and uncle had planned. There were 33 of us including 10 children under the age of 10. The troubles started when my mom called to reserve a pack and play for my cousin and was met with service that my mom, who never complains, felt the need to tell me about. I immediately called to talk about the experience she had and had 2 lovely conversations with the woman who answered and the manager. They offered to send a bottle of sparkling cider to my mom's room to make up for the poor experience. I thought that they'd handled the situation nicely and was really looking forward to the trip. When we arrived however, I felt like I shouldn't have been put at ease by the call I'd had. The front desk was so rude. I've never experienced that in my entire life. Now I started thinking that it might have been because we had a couple kids and a lot of us were checking in at once as we'd just gotten off the ferry, but throughout my 3 day stay, I consistently felt unwelcome by the front desk. I was rebuffed and frowned at. I received a snippy response when I mentioned I was surprised the rooms weren't available early for check-in. Normally I wouldn't think my room would be, but my mom had booked the trip almost a year out and we had, as I said, 33 people staying there. You'd think they would call beforehand to reassure us everything was in order and do their best to have the rooms ready a little early, but that wasn't the case. In addition, throughout the weekend, the staff was consistently rude and unfriendly. While going to the rooms, my cousin's children were excited and perhaps a little loud. Instead of asking them to be quiet or to slow down in the hallway, they were yelled out and made to feel like they weren't worth the time to treat kindly. When I spoke to the girls to tell them it was okay and that the staff was just a little stressed, I was quickly rebuffed and told that no it wasn't okay. Finally, when I went to ask for a room key, as I had been silly and left my key in my room, I was treated like I was an idiot. I took my key and tried to open the door, but it wouldn't open. I returned to the front desk, laughed, and said I must be missing something, sorry for this, but I can't get the door open. The woman looked at me like I was an idiot, before another, whom I assumed was the manager and a little friendlier, gave me another card. When I looked at the two I noticed that the original card I'd received wasn't coded the same way as the new one. While I was dealing with my keys, my brother was asking whether or not he could keep the same beach towel from earlier in the day and return it at the end of the stay or if he needed to return it each day. Again, while my brother was very polite and kind, the front desk attendant was rude. She said No and walked away. It was then we noticed the mirror on the back of the door and the attendant, who had just entered the back office, straightening her hair. Time and time again my cousins shared stories of the rudeness of the staff at the front desk not just to their guests but to their co-workers. Never in my life while at a hotel have I ever felt unwelcome. The number one rule in hotel customer service is to make your guests feel at home while they're away from home. The fact that I felt so unwelcome and wanted to spend the least amount of time away from the hotel is very telling of the front desk staff. On top of all of this, my mom was never given the bottle of sparkling cider I was promised she would receive. The reason this review is not 1 star is because the hotel was beautiful, recently updated, had a great location, and the maintenance/cleaning staff were really wonderful. She was very rude, short and condescending especially when I told her I had purchased a deal. At first I thought maybe she's just having a bad day however after going through yelp reviews, it wasn't only me! She just has a bad attitude. The location of this hotel is pretty central around everything, however most of the hotels are. Check in we were told there would be a bottle of champagne in our room, that didn't happen we had to request it the following day. Then we are notified there will be no room service at all. We stayed for 3 days and we had trash and towels everywhere. Cleanliness was sub par, there were items in the hallways and the spa looked like it hadn't be cleaned since before Covid started. Overall the hotel is great. Very good sized room and very comfortable bed as well. Had a cheese and wine complementary area downstairs which was great. Nearby lots of shops downstairs. Couple of cons: - TV is not setup for High Definition even though it's an HDTV. All channels are picking up the analog signal instead of digital. You see restaurants and bars picking up HD signal so that's not an issue out here. If the TV isn't setup properly, it should be... - WiFi Signal: It is not available across the entire hotel and unfortunately not in my room even though I was told over the phone it was. The issue isn't the speed, but the signal itself. I was on the 4th floor down the hallway from the jacuzzi. The area in front of the jacuzzi does get signal just fine so rooms do as well. This was a bummer as I needed it for work. An additional access point is needed for that area of the hotel. Asked the front desk about it and was told "it's a full house this weekend" meaning "we're not moving you to another room with better reception" - Jacuzzi: not a big deal but there were no bubbles, just the massage jets. - Automated Light Switches: I understand the concept of making sure the lights stay off to save electricity but the bathroom lights would shut off while I'm in the shower, having to open the door to turn them back on. And I was in there 10 minutes or so the most. Not a big deal but worth mentioning. Overall, not a bad stay but took 2 stars away due to the WiFi situation. I was told I was going to have it, didn't, and nothing was done about it. I figured another way around with my phone but it's just the principle of the matter. P.S: Checking in unlocked an offer for a free champagne bottle. I was told to tell the person in the front desk about it, my room number was written down on a paper and that it was to be delivered around 6pm that evening and to not leave the do not disturb sign out otherwise no delivery. I did and nothing happened. Went downstairs around 8pm for dinner and asked about it and the person didn't seem to know what was going on. When I got back from dinner it was delivered. read more

Everything about our stay at the Metropole was excellent. We lounged in luxury last weekend in room 105 in the VIP wing with its jacuzzi tub and sliding frosted privacy doors. The room also comes with vaulted ceilings, king size bed, fireplace, and an unforgettable vista of Avalon Bay which really made this a highly desired spot to stay. Our check-in was the fastest I have ever experienced at any hotel and the service was top notch. We had an issue with the key to the outer door and maintenance came to our aid in a flash, no exaggeration. I would stay here again without question and will recommend to everyone I know. read more

Certainly a beautiful hotel and a great location, however, the mattresses are the worst I've ever experienced. After checking in and discovering that our mattress was completely worn out and concave, I called the front desk to change rooms. The clerk told me she thought that all of their beds are the same but allowed me to inspect a couple other rooms and sure enough, they were ALL TERRIBLE! MAGICAL AND WORTH EVERY PENNY!! TREAT YOURSELF! Not sure how I have lived in Los Angeles for 15 years now and have never visited Catalina??? We love staycations in Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, and wine county...And Catalina was just as wonderful, I'm upset I waited so long! I always heard they make your visit special on your birthday (you ride the ferry for free and wear a bday ribbon around all day hehe) and I was trying to think of something unique for my boyfriends bday back in August (delayed review I know!) so knowing that Catalina was on my list, and the weather was exceptional, I thought it was time to go! I wanted to make his day special, and had heard great things about Hotel Metropole! Because of our hectic work schedules, I had to book last minute...so the journey began... The reservations team were so helpful and kind from our first call, they said there were rooms available for our chosen night, but couldn't confirm a suite that we were hoping for until arrival. I said no problem...we were just excited to get out of LA, and would be happy to stay in any room they had avail. We caught the ferry from San Pedro in the morning (highly recommend upgrading for the $10 to sit in the upper level (comes with an out of this world bloody mary!!) and arrived at the STUNNING Catalina Island around noon. We dropped our bags at the hotel (Gus is a pro, take care of him!) knowing we were early for check in, and were greeted with such a nice, helpful, friendly desk staff. The hotel is beautiful and airy and perfect island decor. They had comfy chairs and couches in the lobby for us to organize ourselves before heading out. The staff knew all about our situation, and informed us they would upgrade our room if at all possible! Waiting for our room was easy peasy...everything is close, we walked to famous Luau Larry's and had some Wiki Wacker cocktails to get is bday started (complete with complimentary straw hat-so fun!) and a yummy lunch...then enjoyed parasailing (half off for my bday boy! and just wow!), and a super beautiful adventurous golf cart ride around the island (a little over an hour was plenty!) and then went back to finally check in to Metropole... When we returned after that whirlwind were so excited to hear that a suite in the VIP wing opened up!!! I put all the exclamation marks now, but had no idea until we got in the room how special it was going to be!!! We had to walk around to walk up stairs to get to it, but Gus helped us with all our bags. WHEN YOU GO PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND SPLURGE ON A WATERFRONT SUITE!!! Most people only stay on Catalina for a few days at most, make the most out of them! This is hands down the most amazing room we have stayed in, (and we love boutique hotels like The Ace and Kimpton) It was so spacious with high ceilings, amazing modern updated amenities, a fireplace, small fridge, a huge bed and whirlpool bath that opened out to the room, and a stunning view of the harbor! The sunset was spectacular!! As a matter of fact we enjoyed it from the rooftop spa/whirlpool, with a glass wall so you could see the entire view. (I am posting pics of all this so check out my pics!) It was really breathtaking, I could hardly believe how blessed I felt being in such a beautiful place, with the man I love, and with such views and great service. I didn't want to leave the roof top! We did have dinner reservations so eventually did have to leave...sadly the steakhouse didn't meet up to everything else this far, but that's another review((; We couldn't wait to get back to our room and relax though! We opened the windows and looked at the gorgeous view and night and enjoyed some champagne then slept sooooo good in the big plush bed! The VIP suites have their own breakfast nook right outside your door, we had fresh fruit, croissants, and coffee, and snuck in a tub, in the amazing fit for 2 whirlpool bath on our room, before checking out! Because the tub opens out to the room we enjoyed a morning mimosa in the tub looking out one more time to the breathtaking view of the harbor. We tried a million ways to figure out how to blow off work to stay another night, but just couldn't, plus the suites were sold out (definitely a popular place)...and I just don't think we could accept less after such a special night!! As I said...if you are going to take the ferry over, and spend a night or two on magical Catalina...do it right! Visit Hotel Metropole...you will always remember it! I'm sure the other rooms are just as lovely, and you will get the same great service if that's just too much of a stretch for your budget (plus everyone can use the rooftop spa((;!!) Coming from 2 people who don't get much time off to relax it was perfection!!!! THANK YOU Hotel Metropole!!!! We will be back! It's literally close to everything and anything you may need. 2. The service was amazing. We were treated to an amazing time thanks to the following staff members. Yoli you were amazing thank you for making us feel welcome and accommodating us for an extra stay. Vicente and Gus thanks for working hard and making our trip enjoyable. Evelyn thank you for the bottle of champagne and making sure we received everything we needed in our rooms. Vanessa and Jessica you handled our checkout quick and thank you for holding our bags while we shopped. I also forgot something in my room without realizing it and was surprised that the cleaning staff made the effort to return it. 3. Worth the price. Complementary breakfast. A small upstairs view on the 4th floor to sun bathe and hit the little Jacuzzi after a long day. Elevators to get you to any floor. Coffee in the lobby. Microwave also located in lobby. My family and I stayed in one of the Oceanview suites it was fabulous the view was to die for. We have a young infant who is four months old and it was perfect because we had plenty of room for her stroller and accessories (They also provide a crib if needed). The hotel was very clean and remodeled and the staff was friendly. they provide a very nice continental breakfast which includes oatmeal, fruits, bread, and coffee. The only downside is this hotel has no gym which does not surprise me because most of the hotels on the island do not have a one due to the age and size of the island. As previous others have posted the bathrooms are a little outdated but they are clean and usable the rest of the room was beautiful and reminded me of the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego. It was definitely worth the price we paid for the best unit in town. When I was walking around Catalina island I could see that most of the hotels did not have balconies facing out to the ocean this seems to be one of the very few that did. We walked everywhere on the island it was central to everything including Descanso beach and the ferry. read more

I really wanted to love this resort. I splurged and got the VIP wing suite OCEAN FRONT ROOM. It wasn't cheap, and I was so disappointed I splurged on this one. I'll list my top complaints: 1. Staff was rude at check-in. They seemed more bothered I was there than helpful to check me in. Room wasn't available when they said it would be & that was (latest check-in possible) 2. Room itself was a large disappointment. It needed some serious maintenance. Light fixtures coming out of ceiling, 1/2 of the outlets were loose and not working, tub was dirty, no safe in room, brown water with wilting "fresh flowers" as advertised 3. View is deceiving on website. From the pictures, it looked as if we were closer to the water. Unfortunately, you have a busy street in front of the view. Understandable that this is the layout in Avalon, but this road is SO BUSY. To keep your patio open is pure torture and by patio I mean RAILING. From the pictures it looked like there would be a patio, but it's indeed only a railing. The view is ruined when you can't enjoy it with the window open. And be prepared for everyone in Avalon to see you in your room. I opened up the window coverings with a robe on, and there was nice cheers to go along with it from patrons dining across the street. With your "patio" doors closed, it does have good sound proofing for that busy street 4. VIP wing isn't connected to hotel. Just be prepared to haul your stuff on cobblestone streets to get to your wing. Not a huge deal, but an inconvenience. Especially when you paid top dollar, & have a staff not willing to even give you a smile 5. Breakfast was on the low end of an average continental. The couple pastries they had were hard. Juice was warm on my VIP wing floor, and there was a few bananas This hotel needs to take some serious tips from its patrons on staff training, cleaning and making a true guest experience for people like me who paid in the high $600's for one night. We really wanted to like this hotel. In fact, I'm only writing this review after having gone back a second time. I wanted to make sure our first experience wasn't a fluke. Unfortunately for the hotel, they are consistent. The thing about Metropole is that they truly do believe they are a hotel of the caliber of prices they charge, but they aren't. Truth be told it is just a glorified motel less any true and worthwhile amenities. The Wi-Fi was horrible and spotty at best. There was trash on the floor by the bed. A large red stain on the carpet. Knicks on the drywall. Carpet coming up near the bathroom transition. And the bathroom???? A rusty toilet, mold along the frame of the shower and a shower head that was just old and pathetic. The continental breakfast was what you would find at a cheap motel- bagels, coffee and boxed cereals. Customer service? The bellhop was the nicest person we encountered there. Every time we approached the front counter, the staff were playing on their phones or taking personal calls. Any time we tried to address anything (like the issues we were having with Wi-Fi), there was a distinct attitude as though we were bothering them and didn't know what we were doing. Our suggestion? Try the Pavilion, Catalina Island Inn or the condos on the other side of the Descanso Beach Club. read more

An Americanized version of an Italian hotel mixed with dying palm trees and squeezed onto the tourist trap harbor known as Catalina Island. Did I just invent a new drink? No doubt the Hotel Metropole Cocktail would taste like $2.00 tequila with an old grapefruit wedge and a smoldering cigarette butt. Anyway, maybe we just arrived in the middle of a bad week or something. The website for the hotel says that check-in is at 2 PM, but we had to wait until 3, squeezing past the maids as they lounged outside our room. We had requested a nonsmoking room yet our suite reeked of tobacco. We specified 2 queen beds, were given 1 king bed instead. Overall the staff was unapologetic, I found a bedbug, the mini-fridge leaked, and they didn't even have Firefox installed on the one computer that was my link to the outside world. Also, what decent hotel puts room numbers on their keys? Seriously a security risk, people. On the plus side, the continental breakfast selection was great if a little lacking in protein. Just be prepared to use extreme force when using the funky bagel slicer. And other guests waiting to use the single available toaster can get territorial about their place in line. read more

This is an update from a previous experience that I had over a year ago when staying here for a wedding. They commented back to me that they would never remove a review then within approx 2 hours they contacted yelp to have it removed due to lack of information. My husband and I attended and I worked a wedding here on the island. There were several issues. They gave the grooms parents a room with a foul odor with severely toxic odors - which the grooms parents had to be moved. Then several of the guests reported being charged prior to even staying at this establishment. As when I booked a room here they put it on my card charged for it and then called me weeks later telling me they over booked the hotel and had to move me. Not a problem but I was indeed attending this wedding also and so were several others that also had similar issues. Hotel Meteopool fully charged my card and once again before I even stayed at this hotel. I agreed at that point because I knew that I had to. The staff referred several incompetent people for the wedding as for catering and minister( which never showed up!)and luckily some people in the end came to the rescue. The place was average, I just felt that I was rather disappointed in the customer care and the way they treated the bride and her party. They spent good money and wanted the out of town guests to have a good time . To my shock they deleted one of my reviews and the brides. we both have worked in the industry for several years and have never had service like this. Then to delete my second review was icing on the cake. I am a logical fair grader. I refuse to be censored - I will make sure I also review in another spot if this gets deleted and I will make sure I site yelp - this type of behavior makes me wonder if this hotel pays a service to yelp for good ratings. DIRTY!! Save your $ and go elsewhere. Poor customer service. Building is essentially an old junky motel with upgrades. The entire building backs up to an alley filled with trash, which is what you get to see each time you leave your room. Not to mention they never clean. Our room had a dirty toilet, stains all over the carpet; and grime growing in the bathroom. Under the end Table I saw M&Ms that obviously have been there for several months at the minimum. Staff do not care to help you. The taxi guy who picked us up took us to the hotel charged $14 not bad for .20 of a mile but turns out he also worked in the hotel so you would think being a guest at the hotel it would be a courtesy pickup.. The reason I give it two stars it's because it's next to Von's market and across the golf cart rentals ... And right at downtown . The hotel from the outside was nice but our room was very small and felt like a cave.. For almost $400 a night it was like motel 6. TV had no HD channels it was fuzzy Internet had no connection at all The bathroom door didn't lock No privacy once you come out of the bathroom so if you have kids good luck! The lady in the front counters were talking to customers like we are annoying them . Not friendly at all! PEOPLE !!!!! If your gonna stay here do what I didn't have the option to do, is to get a bigger room or a suite .. The time I went this was the only thing available but the website showed the suite rooms , talk about Night and Day! I got suckered into thinking this room looked like the webs pics .. The morning breakfast one table very limited .. Either pay the high dollar amount for a suite or don't stay here which I had a superior room... The rooms in the back smells ,it's old outdated and next to the dumpsters so if you don't want your vaca ruined then listen to my comments ... YOU BEEN WARNED .... I wish I was warned!!!!! read more

Pros: Nice location in that it's not right in the hustle and bustle of Avalon and adjacent to a nice leafy courtyard with shops, tables, etc.. Rooms were nice but the bed sheets could have been cleaner, as there were stains on the pillow cases. Cons: Where to begin? The front desk staff, of course. I felt like my presence was a huge bother to them. Not once did they get close to being personable. During my checkout, all that was said was 'Checking out?' and 'Receipt?' I figured after a two-day stay I would at least get a 'How was your stay?' or 'Thank you for choosing Metropole' but that wasn't to be. I never saw the teeth of any of the front desk girls - no smiles for 48 hours. My hotel package also came with a bottle of champagne. Now before you get too excited, read this: A $250 a night hotel served us a... $5.99 bottle of champagne??? That's not a typo. Even the Catalina Express served free Chandon in the lounge. I'm no snob but I chose to leave it unopened. I hope the message was clear. I know that it's a city ordinance but the 4th Floor Jacuzzi area doesn't open early enough, nor stay open late enough so that shouldn't be a selling point. They never shared their WiFi access key or even told me that WiFi was available. Summary: If you still feel compelled to go, LivingSocial has a voucher for $199 for this place. Add a 15% coupon code and your price gets reduced to $170 or so. This would be the expected price point for this place. read more

I stayed at the Hotel Metropole in December 2006 (12/22-12/24 in room 408) with my girlfriend upon seeing some favorable reviews on TripAdvisor.com. I had never been to Catalina before, so I wanted the experience to be a memorable one. After my stay though, I'm not sure I could recommend this to other visitors. As I wrote in my comment card: "Fireplace and television not in good working order. Bathtub drained too slowly. Otherwise, everything was fine, but not what I would expect for the price I paid. The staff and cleaning people were outstanding; rooms were very clean" What I forgot to mention also was that the fireplace was one of those gas types where you press a button and it automatically lights up. The crummy part about it is that it makes your room smell gassy, plus the one in our room caused the unit to have this awful wind-flickering sound that made it sound like a helicopter was in the room. For about $300 a night, you should expect to get more than what I experienced. Needless to say, I will not be staying at the Hotel Metropole again. read more

Hotel check in is 3pm, check out is 11am. Don't bother to ask for late check out. They usually have folks already trying to check in and so they need you out soon to clean. Room was decent and good size. Nothing spectacular. We did get a partial ocean view, so you can't complain waking up to a view and fresh breeze. If you check in on yelp, they'll send a bottle of champagne. Hotel offers beach towel to use for the beach and jacuzzi. Also breakfast is offered from 7-10am for guests. Come early otherwise you'll be left with just some yogurt, coffee and pastries. But a good continental overall. Coffee, hot chocolate, tea, juice, oatmeal, granola, yogurt, bagel, croissants, muffins, cereal, and fruit. read more

Late post - As I can recall, the room was decent, nice and simple, in shades of black and brown/tan. The bathroom was a good size. The only bad thing was that the light ran on a timer. So, for those who like to take long showers good luck with the light part. The shower head was probably not put on right b/c there was a constant leak. Keep in mind there is a water shortage on the island. On a better note, champagne was given on behalf of the hotel. I'm not sure why but YAY. I'm feeling the love !! Breakfast is also provided in the morning so take advance of that. I was fortunate enough to stay on the 2nd floor right next to the lobby and breakfast area. The lobby area was very open with lots of beautiful flowers. Note - The hotel is located in the back, behind all the shops and game area. We visited the hotel via a groupon voucher back in early December for my fiancé's birthday. We were willing to stay at a non 4-5 star hotel because of the discount. We were also not expecting as much being on Catalina and having a lack of name brand or high end hotels. After our stay we both agreed it was a 5 star stay and a great spot for a winter getaway. The view from our room on the top floor, #4 was an incredible panorama of the harbor as well as long distance view of the OC mainland. Other highlights included the rooftop hot tub, in room balcony, fireplace, dvd selections, walking distance to downtown, top of the line continental breakfast included, and great customer service. DO NOT STAY IN ROOM 217!!!! We were placed in room 217 on the main floor nearest to the entrance. This is also where they set up their daily continental breakfast. We were not able to sleep past 730 am because of this. Also what seemed like a luxurious shower ended up flooding our bathroom because the drain couldn't handle the water flow! When we first arrived their were 2 young girls helping us with check in that were not very friendly. They also sent us in the wrong direction so we were looking for our room with a ton of luggage and finally came back to the front desk to ask again where our room was. One of them laughed, pointed in the opposite direction, and yelled SHES FIRED blaming her friend for the wrong directions. My boyfriend, now fiancé as of this weekend, planned this wonderful trip for us. But staff and room amenities were LACKING... and slacking! read more

Hotel Metropole - Room 217 looks nice, but is extremely noisy by 730 am - Hotels Near Me - Avalon, California

The cleaning crew stole $$ out of my wallet....could you possibly need any more info? There are no safes in the rooms, a safety deposit box is at the front, but who wants to do that when they are just running out to go zip lining (which was amazing)? There is no manager on duty after 5pm and the ditzy front desk girl pretty much refused to contact the manager, so I had to wait until the next day to get my robbery handled. Kind of puts a damper on your evening! The next AM manager told me that she asked the cleaning lady who told her she did not steal $$ out of my wallet (duh? Did they really expect her to say "Oh yeah I totally robbed that couple!"?). The manager was condescending and rude and basically said she did not believe me. Come on, if I was scamming you I would of said hundreds of dollars was missing!!! The situation was handled TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONALLY. The upgraded "view" was a drive way. Bed was cozy though and the in room jacuzzi tub was nice. Hot tub on the roof top deck was luke warm. If you like paying more than a service is worth and enjoy getting robbed then this is the place for you! read more
