I stayed here while I was in town for a conference at Depaul University. It was the closest Hilton property to where I needed to be! I arrived via Uber, so I can't speak to the parking situation. The entryway and lobby are incredibly nice, with modern & colorful artwork! There is a restaurant in the lobby that was pretty active. The front desk staff was incredibly friendly and helpful during my stay! Based on these facts, I'd say this spot has great future potential. The elevator was broken during my stay, which was fairly inconvenient given that I was on the fourth floor but I was occasionally offered access to the freight elevator by the desk staff. The rooms were very dated, quite tight, and not in the best shape...peeling paint on the ceilings, old tile in the bathrooms, and minimal vanity space for storing items. There was a note stating that rooms were under renovation, but given similar notes in reviews from year's past, I'm not sure how quickly they are actually renovating the rooms. It was nice that there were plenty of coffeeshops very close by, since they don't offer breakfast currently. All in all, I would say hold off on booking here until they get further along in their renovation plans, unless staying at a Hilton property in this neighborhood is a necessity. read more

Hotel Versey is an interesting choice. I wanted to stay near the bars on Halsted, so this independent hotel fit the bill. [They have an agreement with Hilton so rooms can be booked via the Hilton app.] Rooms are pretty basic -- it's formerly a Days Inn...so not fancy -- but they are extremely clean. It's a no-frills hotel, but it gets the job done. [Note: a November, 2025, letter in my room informed that they are about to remodel all guest rooms...so stay tuned!] If you're a light sleeper, request a room that faces the interior of the structure. Otherwise, you will be facing a very busy intersection with lots of car and bus noise. A/C is via traditional window units -- but mine blew plenty cold. On my next trip to Chicago, I will likely try another hotel (I like trying new places) but I certainly would stay here again, especially post-renovation. Btw, if you like Trader Joe's, there's one directly across the street! read more

This hotel is not bad, just very average for the money. I paid 350 a night and received no in room refrigerator, no daily room cleaning or new towels, the only working ice maker is on the 2nd floor, no good view from the room, no breakfast, no coffee/water in the lobby. I judge hotel on value for the money and this place is maybe a 180-220 a night hotel tops. We came to see the cubs and if you're an out of towner coming in for a game just stay at best western and take a cab. read more

Its too small. Big and tall guys like me should be warned about the low ceilings, their 1 tiny elevator, no ice but on 2nd floor, small bathrooms, I couldn't sit on the toilet without my knees hitting the door. They are no extras, no mini fridge, 1 bar of soap for sink and shower! Hard scratchy towels. The room was way too pricey for what we got. I stayed in a nicer Hilton hotel on the side of the freeway on my way here and it was 175 dollars cheaper than this hostel room. They decorated the entry really cool and groovy to try to distract you from how bad the space is. read more

Hotel Versey is a quaint boutique hotel set in an old building. Some of the windows are old and being on the second floor we could hear street noise very well. That was probably the biggest con. The beds (2 queen) were super comfortable, our room had a nespresso machine, microwave and fridge. The whole place has quite the vibe! Colorful with a cool entry and lobby. It's close to Wrigley field, a bus is right outside the door, and the brown line train is a few blocks down. I'd definitely stay here again. read more

I stayed here for parents weekend 2025 with my husband and two kids. Four people in a two queen room which was enough space. The bathroom was small, but it's Chicago and I get it. The water was always hot- no lack of hot water the entire time. Our first night there was a Thursday night and it was incredibly loud with people partying and the outdoor noise of construction going on at the hotel and around the area. We figured out how to turn on window fan by the second day, which helped to drown out the noise dramatically. Thursday was by far the loudest night and this is in a college area/younger neighborhood so perhaps Thirsty Thursday was the reason. We were provided with two washcloths and three towels, which was odd and certainly not enough for four people for four days and three nights. Additionally, the room smelled like old smoke. You know how our room smells when somebody smoked in it for years and years and it's just stuck in the walls? And your throat hurts for the next morning? That was what it was like.... The toilet in our bathroom was on a raised pedestal type thing and I'm rather short so my legs were dangling. That was weird. There's only one elevator and it's a very busy hotel with more rooms than you imagine there could be and you often have to wait your turn as the elevator is super small and can't take more than a few people at a time. The location was OK as far DePaul goes, about a 20 minute walk or a 5 to 10 minute Uber ride depending on traffic. It was not particularly close to the L stations. A Stan's donuts and Starbucks are within a few feet of the hotel and if you're seeking Dunkin' Donuts, it's about a five minute walk. Hotel Versey is much like many other hotels and no longer provides cleaning services or towel refreshment/bed making during stays unless it is longer than a three nights stay. We were there for exactly 3 nights. They did have a paper notice stating that if you need service, just ask and they'd be happy to provide this. Well, with four people in one room, minimal wash cloths and towels, lots of back-and-forth to the university along with shopping, we did require services. we had no dry or clean towels, and the two garbage receptacles that were in the room were overflowing. I stopped in at the front desk and asked the gentleman if we could please have maid service as well as fresh towels on our third day, after staying there for two nights. The employee told me that unfortunately they were "all booked up this weekend and therefore we won't be able to provide any cleaning services. I'll try to have somebody stop by with some towels though." And true to his word, we did not receive maid services, but we did get two clean towels. Which we shared amongst the four of us after we all showered our last day there. I do like Hotel Versey and I think it has some good things about it. But I think when you're spending this much on a hotel stay, you deserve clean towels and for a maid to stop in and empty your garbage once in a while. If those services are no longer going to be routinely provided, perhaps hotels need to reflect that in their pricing. I could've stayed downtown for the same amount of money and gotten much better service. And frankly, it would've been just as close to Depaul by the L train if I would've somewhere in the loop. I enjoyed the location. The rooms are extremely small almost on NYC scale. The bathrooms have a step up and you will break your toe until you get used to it. It's in a good location for most any restaurant and coffee shops. Easy access to public transportation, as well as walking distance to most things in Lincoln Park/Lakeview. They do have a reciprocal availability to LA fitness which is right next-door. This is very convenient and it's a great facility. Parking is a big hectic. It's $25 a night for parking but there is no in and out. I was able to find a spot on "spot hero "for $20 a day that was a block away. This allowed me to use my car at any time to travel the city. Rooms, clean, and tidy. No refrigerator and the ice machine on my floor was broken.... No fault of anybody those things to go down. The worst thing about the room was whoever was staying next-door, the walls are paper thin. Arguments throughout the night the TV blasting chatter was so damn annoying. I stayed two nights here on a trip to the city, it's the best hotel in the area for the price, for sure. When I first checked in, the two men at the front desk gave me a room that reeked of cigarettes. They seemed to know it was going to smell bad? I came right back down and they gave me another room, thank goodness. Cons: the numbering of the rooms was done by someone who doesn't know how numerical order should work in architecture, there's some cracking in the walls and tub, the rooms desperately need fridges and microwaves. DON'T STAY HERE!!! I have never stayed in a hotel before that changes prices every night!!!! I unfortunately did not ask for a itemized receipt upon checkout. My mistake for trusting them!!! I made my reservation for a certain price per night and got ripped off!!! Room's bathroom was in horrible condition with tile chips and chips in the tub that were rusted. I asked for for a discount which they wouldn't do but moved us to a different room that was better, but had to argue with a horribly rood manager. Didn't catch her name. If I had another place to stay near by I would have walked out Be warned and confirm that you are going to pay the same rate each night of your stay. Or, better yet DON'T STAY HERE!!! Everything about this hotel is disappointing- the rooms are incredibly small, the bathroom rusty and dirty, and they nickel and dime for everything. The walls are SO thin you can hear everything going on in other rooms. My boyfriend and I booked a hotel room for 1 night for a little getaway and were woken every 10 minutes (seriously I'm not exaggerating) to the sound of a man screaming. Finally around 4am I had to call down about the noise and was met with a curt "security is on their way". The day staff that checked us in was very accommodating but the morning staff was outright rude. I called to inquire about a late check out and was told "we don't do that" and when I questioned it was cut off and sternly told "we don't do that." 100% I will not be coming back and do not recommend. read more

I am at that point in life where the past, present, and future all blend together in a surreal way. Its called aging. Last night, I stayed overnight at The Hotel Versey , a historical site on the Northside of Chicago that has always been a lodging establishment since the 1920s. In its original version, I believe it may have been affordable lodging on a long term basis. I used to live in Chicago and I visit often. I know this hotel in a previous version did not have a good reputation. It was run down and poorly maintained. When Priceline gave a set price for a mysterious random selected hotel out of three, the Hotel Versey was one of them. I opted to save money on a overbooked Labor Day weekend and hoped for the best. The Hotel Versey markets itself as a memorabilia/boutique hotel representing the sites history hosting bands like the smashing pumpkins and earlier artists at the time when Jazz was newish. Adjacent to the hotel is the Century Shopping Mall, which has its own history of survival being one of the few remaining movie palaces from the 1920s/1930s. You wouldn't know this though as the theater as been dissected and subdivided over the decades with Landmark Cinemas on the top floors and an Axe throwing venue on the bottom floor. So, the Hotel Versey is like an old friend in the neighborhood to the Century Mall as both survives the decades. Historically, I"m sure performers of the Century Theater stayed at the Diversey Arms, the Hotel Versey's first namesake. With this in mind, the rooms are small and I'm not sure bathrooms were originally part of the room. The small size of the room was also reminiscent of rooms in Europe that are small compared the the usual size of hotel room in a typical mainstream hotel. There was a window in my room, but faced the side of another building giving the room a claustrophobic feeling. The backdrop of the room was painted with famous sites/intersections in Chicago. The room was clean. The room had a Nespresso machine, but did not have a refrigerator, which I consider a standard amenity in a room currently. Other than revelers of a group in multiple rooms coming back from a wedding, the htel was quiet. Well, I guess a window facing the side of another building rather than Diversey or Clark also enhances the quietness of the room. For a building so old and with several rebrandings, I'm surprised I didn't bump into a spirit or two. No spirits in my room or on the floor as far as I know. Overall, the Hotel Versey was clean and worth the price I paid. Let's get refrigerators in the room. read more

We paid third party and upon check in the front desk seemed a little sketchy in finding our reservation. The next day at checkout they check us out and charged us again but double the cost, even though i had a pre paid copy of my third party reservation they refused to credit my card. I had to get hotels.com and discover on the phone. Magically after a 30 minute ordeal they found my initial third party reservation and released the additional charges. Scam scam scam. read more

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. During a weekend trip to Chicago from NYC, a friend and I booked a room here since it's only a 10 minute Uber ride from downtown. We were able to check in late and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The hotel was recently redone - it has a quirky baseball theme and the wall art makes it an Instagram treasure for any millennial. The elevator is covered in fun quotes and the decor is modern. Our room was spacious - two full beds with great pillows and fresh clean towels. My only strange find was a mysterious brown stain on the rug near our bathroom, but I covered it up with a towel and pretended it wasn't there because I didn't want to think about it's origins. Out of sight, out of mind! Checkout was quick and easy, and the location is great. Not only is it close to downtown, but it's across the street from a couple of clothing stores. A Starbucks, and a pharmacy. There is a Stan's Donuts on the corner which is very convenient as well. I'd stay here again! read more

Fairly decent. Newley remodeled and I overheard the front desk gentlemen explain the theme to a guest : new meets old and random. Interesting hipster type decor in the lobby. No gym but guests can use the LA Fitness (building behind, enter through Century and go to back elevators to take you to seventh floor). No rootop either unfortunately. Beds are soft, possibly too soft for me. Room is clean and nice. Two full beds for a double occupancy room....a full is just not big enough for two adults. Our original room had a wet water spot on the carpet (not visible) and got worse throughout the day; hotel staff was immediately responsive and moved us to a new room. Perfect location though - tons of restaurants and shops. Walgreens, Target, Trader Joe's, Chipotle all nearby. Walk the extra block east to Yolk for breakfast (so good we went twice on our two day stay), definitely skip the Original Pancake house read more

The hotel is located right next to Stans donuts and across the street from Starbucks. Check in was a breeze and parking is a short walk around the corner costing 20 dollars a day. The decor of the hotel is colorful, fun, and quirky. It's an older hotel so the rooms are small, the bathrooms tiny, and the walls thin. Our room was clean and in our opinion, cute, but unfortunately we could hear conversation from the room next to us and they were not talking very loud. Honestly it didn't bother us too much as we both slept like logs in the comfortable beds. If you're a light sleeper, you might want to bring ear plugs or skip this hotel. Hotel Versey used to be an old Days Inn and although it was converted to a new & fun Cubs themed hotel, I was still able to use my Wyndham Rewards points to get out room! We specifically chose this hotel because it was Cubs themed and because it was just under 1 mile to Wrigley Field. We were attending a night game and it was an easy walk to and from. I knew the rooms would be tiny before we arrived (it's a Chicago hotel!) So the small room was not a surprise. A queen it big enough for 2 people and that's it. We were just there to sleep. The Wrigley wall behind the bed was pretty cool! If you are claustrophobic you might have an issue with the elevator. It's very small and can hold about 4-5 people. It is pretty cool though and decided wall-to-ceiling with bumper stickers. Don't drink the water in the room unless you want to pay $5. Right across the street is a Walgreens where you can pick up drinks and snacks for cheap. There is no microwave or fridge in the room. Oh, and there is a Nespresso machine in the room too! Also, we ordered a super late night DoorDash order with no problem, but you'll need to meet them in the lobby some it requires a key to use the elevator. Speaking of elevator, we requested a room away from the elevator based on reviews and got one away from it. No problems with hearing that but the walls are very thin and you can easily hear your neighbors or people in the hall. It's an old, small hotel and again, not surprising to me. There is a lot of shopping across the street (TJMaxx, etc.) and places to eat around. We had a good stay and the front desk guys were hilarious and friendly! read more

I booked a stay here June 8-11th. The staff was extremely l nice and accommodating so this review is not a knock on them at all. That being said, the hotel itself is in need of an upgrade. The downstairs lobby is very nicely decorated and modern, however the rooms are lacking in basic amenities. There is no fridge and no microwave in the rooms, and the dresser, desk and chair is worn. The doors are also paper thin, so you can hear everything that is going on in the hallway. The curtains do not close, and the blind they have on the window let's a tremendous amount of light into the room, and the door doesn't seal well so you can see light coming in from around the entire door. The shower was extremely temperamental. The temperature fluctuated constantly. When in the shower the water would go from lukewarm to scalding hot to cold. The smallest tweak of the hot water would send the temperature either way too hot or way too cold. The plus side is the pillows, bedding and beds were pretty decent. The location is also pretty convenient. For $400 per night, I expected WAY more from this. I'm very disappointed, and if given the choice I would not stay here or recommend this to anyone. read more

I'm sorry to say that we had a terrible experience at this hotel as we moved in our kid to college. I thought we were booking a renovated small hotel stay as we took the big step of moving in our freshman to college. Looked like a cute boutique hotel upon entry- not your average "budget" (but not really budget) hotel. But upon opening our hotel room, we were overcome by a foul smell of what seemed like vomit. Given that we had to drop off our bags and head to the school for our move-in window, we noticed only the bad smell. We brought it up to the front desk who seemed fairly dismissive and told us the hotel was booked. Another member of the staff overheard our discussion and said he'd spray the room with air freshener. Hoping that would work, we left for the school. After move-in, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner out. The room still smelled horrible and then we noticed the stains. Gross. We would have checked out if we could get our $475/night refunded (I guess those are college move-in rates). I bought scented sprays from the urban outfitters across the street hoping to kill the stink and needed copious amounts of alcohol to get into the bed. Thankfully I brought my flip flops. On top of it all, the AC didn't work on an unusually hot Chicago weekend. I've traveled a ton, for work and pleasure. My two expectations are I think pretty reasonable- a clean room and nice service. With COVID, I try to be flexible on the latter knowing places are short-staffed. After completing a hotel survey, I was offered a small discount on my next stay. Um, no thanks. Couldn't pay me to stay there. Since I can't seem to put in no stars, the one star is for location. read more

*All photos in this review are from the second room we got moved to* Starting with the good, the staff was very nice and they do validate (discount) parking at the mall! Our hotel was located perfectly in Wrigleyville so we could walk everywhere and take the train into the city. Sadly there were more cons than pros. I reserved the hotel on Expedia and on their website they were calling the beds "queen size". We got into our room and realized that the beds are actually FULL size beds. We were confused so we called down and they said they would change our room to a queen size bed. We get up to our new room and realize that not only was the bed the same size, they also gave us a smaller room that was not completely clean. The hallway into the room couldn't fit one person with luggage and the room could barely fit the two of us that were staying there. There were odd stains in the carpet every where, cracked baseboards, used hand towels that were not picked up, broken smoke alarm, broken door and stains in the duvet. We love Chicago but ended up being really disappointed in our room and lack of cleanliness. read more

I'm giving two stars to not seem too dramatic. Actually it really is a one. I hate being in this place. The front desk guys were pretty nice, but this hotel is awful. I'm currently in a 4th floor room. It smells like cigarettes. I felt the need to check for bed bugs. There's no fridge. It felt like it was 90 degrees when I walked into the room before turning on the AC. The windows are pointless because all you can see is another brick building ten feet away. The soap is awful and cheap and even the towels are weird. There's two six dollar figi water bottles on the end table which sound ridiculous but are actually sounding pretty good. It's got some of the worst fake hotel "art" I've ever seen. I made the mistake of not being drunk in this hellhole. Do not stay here. read more

Because we liked everything but the thin walls. --- --- --- My dad and I were in town for a couple of days to visit Wrigley Field and this looked to be the best hotel at an affordable rate that was walking distance from the stadium. It honestly had everything we could have hoped for - the rooms were nice, the beds were comfortable, the location was great and the price was the best in the area. Fortunately the biggest negative at this hotel didn't affect me very much because I'm an incredibly deep sleeper, but when I was awake, the sounds from the street were obnoxiously loud. It was almost as if the exterior walls were made from the same material as the interior walls because everything happening on the street below sounded like it was coming from the other side of room. My dad said that at one point in the middle of the night, a firetruck drove by and it was incredibly obnoxious. I sort of remember that happening, but it was almost like it was inside of a quasi-dream. Ah, to be blessed with deep sleeping. But they also started construction at the first moments of the sun rising in the morning, and from the moment I woke up, there was no falling back asleep due to all of that racket. Outside of that, I'd be hard pressed to find a flaw in our stay. The bathrooms aren't very updated, I guess? But that didn't bother a couple of guys in town to go to baseball games. If you're in town to go to Wrigley, you won't regret your decision to stay here, unless you're a light sleeper. In that case, you may want to ask for a room off of the street, if they have those. read more

I absolutely loved my two stays at Hotel Versey. The location could not be better considering downtown is close and the airport is a quick Uber or bus/subway ride away. The hotel is iconic in Boystown and offers all of the amenities you need to recharge, recoup, and get ready for your day. The wireless internet is fast and free. The rooms are perfectly plush with outlets to charge your electronics near your bed. I was absolutely pleased with the abundance of television stations as well, especially during the time when I just want to relax. The rooms are trendy with special touches. I can't explain it in words. It is very cool here. A huge plus is gym access next door at LA Fitness. It beats a small hotel gym. It was an absolutely amazing perk! The staff are really courteous and help you choose a room to your liking. Overall, I can't wait for my next stay when I am in Chicago. I work in Chicago about 10 times a year and Hotel Versey definitely got me hooked! read more

+.5 for service Nestled in the North Side, it's definitely a hotel that's somewhat different from others. The walls are covered with local Chicago goodies, including some Cubs decor. Staff was excellent. Not much needs to be said beyond that, it really was. Even though our room hosted a party that caused a bit of ruckus (apologies for that), the staff were still courteous and cleaned our mess up without penalizing us. As for the rooms...yes, they were small. My group of 4 were stepping over each other quite often cause of the room size. Also yes, the walls were quite thin. It was fun hearing conversations from our neighbouring room about...stuff I won't mention here. Given the price we paid, I wouldn't give this a straight up 4 star. The uniqueness and courtesy was there, but the room size and thin walls just didn't cut it. read more

Took my money, cheap customer service. No consideration for their customers. This trip was right before COVID 19 ramped up and travel restrictions were put in place. Great price, nice decor walking in to lobby, convenient snacks by the elevator. However, there is just one elevator... tiny... and it takes forever. Better take the stairs... once you get to your room, they look pretty old and feels like they just threw some paint on the walls and added hotel furniture in it. Again, great price though. Day one- Saturday morning. the waiting area smelled like weed.... with No Smoking signs posted... didn't bother me, but was interesting to experience. Specially if there are kids checking in to the hotel. Day two, I was recalled by my job to returned to work ASAP. I work in a Medical Facility. Instead of staying until Wednesday, I had to leave Monday morning. Spoke to a member at the front desk about adjusting my dates for my stay and if I would be able to get reimbursed-- i was told that because I booked with a third party (Priceline), I would have to work this through them. I called Priceline and they agreed to refund me. However, before this can happen, the hotel must also agree. Priceless called the Hotel and was informed that they did not agree and unfortunately I could not be reimbursed. Despite of us being in a Pandemic and forced to go back home. Only stayed 2 of the 5 nights---- because of the pandemic! They refused to refund me. Do not stay here... look for other options. read more

Neighborhood power outages make me do weird things...like, go into work and sleep on a sofa because none of my friends have an extra space or are without power themselves on what was one of the hottest nights of last year. They can also make me do sensible things...like, call up and book a room at the closest hotel to my darkened residence on a chilly late autumn night. A huge thank you to Days Inn Chicago for being a shining beacon of slumber while ComEd figured out how to fix a couple blown transformers. Kudos to this neighborhood hotel for being incredibly clean, cozy and affordable on a night when I was willing to spend twice as much for half the comfort. There are some really great extras in this hotel: the fantastic location with two major bus lines and a short distance to the Brown line, the complimentary continental breakfast, free Wi-Fi and a professional staff that went out of their way to give me a good rate for living through a crappy evening. read more

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS HOTEL! THEY WILL LIE TO YOU ABOUT WHAT IS AVAILABLE! THE HOTEL ITSELF IS DISGUSTING! I booked a room for myself and my father because we were visiting my newborn nephew. We specifically wanted a room with a King Bed and a pull-out Sofa Bed. I booked a hotel in downtown Chicago but I was recommended Hotel Versey which was closer to my nephew. I no longer talk to that person because anyone who would recommend this nightmare of a Hotel is not someone I want in my life. I called and confirmed with the hotel 5 times that I had a room with a King Bed and a pull-out sofa bed. I confirmed with Isaiah and he told me his GM Johnathon confirmed that we had the room we wanted. When we arrived we were told by Keith in a VERY condescending tone that not only do we not have a room with a pull-out Sofa Bed but we NEVER had that room booked. I talked to several people afterward including an extremely rude front desk person named Chris and a passive aggressive Assistant GM named Celeste and received stories that just further proved they were lying from the beginning. First, I was told by Keith that they have rooms with a pull-out sofa bed but we didn't get one because of the dates we selected. Then I was told by Celeste that they do not have a room with a pull-out sofa bed but they do have a cot which was never offered to us at any point. Chris just yelled at us that it wasn't HIS PROBLEM SO THERE'S NOTHING HE CAN DO! Imagine a full grown adult being THAT bad at their job! Each person I spoke to at this hotel had the same response - no apology and blaming me for not knowing what rooms they had. I requested multiple times for the GM Johnathon to contact me and left my phone number with every front desk person and not once received a call from him. Customer service incompetence aside - the hallways reak of cigarettes and the cleaning lady is a ghost because we never saw her. There would just be random cleaning carts blocking the hallway. We called several times and asked for them to clean the rooms but we only had it "cleaned" once and the "cleaning" was replacing the towels with two tiny towels. The non-sofa-bed sofa was sticky and hot to the touch. If I could give zero stars I would. They offered a slight refund when really they should be paying people to stay at this dumpster fire. I will NEVER book a room with Wyndham or Hotel Versey ever again. They blatantly lied to me and my father to get us to book a room with them and then never once apologized. I will tell anyone I know to never book a room with Wyndham and/or Hotel Versey. Heed my warning and DO NOT book. You would serve yourself better just sleeping in the sewers. read more

This place is a sad excuse for a Wyndham. Our shower shot water in all directions, on the mirror, out of the wall, filled the bathroom and leaked into the bedroom. The front desk employee was watching the news at full volume on their smart phone when we asked about check out times and the response was "you'll have to talk to the person here in the morning". Weird that this place is able to call themselves a Wyndham. The service is a joke and incredibly inappropriate for a place that is in the service industry. All they did was put paint on a shithole. But there are beds to sleep in if that's all you need. read more
