We ate at Houlihan's more then several times since they opened years ago and it was pretty good but lately, not so good. My husband and I ordered the Pot Roast dinner. It was awful and was nothing like pot roast the way we know it to be. The only thing I can say is the vegetables in it were fresh & good, especially the carrots. The mash potatoes served underneath the meal were too runny. The meat was tasteless & not lean enough and the sauce was too salty. The food was not tasty. We did not enjoy it and felt we wasted our money on food that was awful. The potato soup we had (and not the first time) was barely warm and too thick. I really don't know if we will go back again. The food is going downhill. I use to love there salmon & scallops but now I don't know if they will be the same again. Update: 3/13/2016 Well tonight we went back to Houlihan's for dinner (to try it again.) My husband had the Jambalaya & I had the Seared Scallops & mashed potatoes, which I thought were really very good. The food for both of us, this time, was worth the trip we were both happy with the food. We also had dessert (chocolate cappuccino cake) which had two scoops of ice cream (chocolate/vanilla.) Went yesterday for lunch with my Dad and my son. We were seated promptly in a large booth for 6 people. Nice to be able to stretch out. Nicole was our server and was very attentive. Drinks were served promptly and she gave us a little time to look over the large menu. My son ordered the cheeseburger platter, Dad ordered the chicken wrap and I ordered the Chicken Quesadillas. All large portions and delicious. Very attentive service and great food for a chain! read more

I am so not into chain restaurants. This is the second time I have been to this location. The first time I was totally dissatisfied. The food was awful, and the drinks were almost as weak as the service. But we went here for Mother's Day, and I thought the service was great and the food was even better! They must have really stepped it up over the last 2 years. I had the French onion soup, which was pretty good. We also had a fried calamari and stuffed mushroom app. Both were delish. The calamari wasn't too breaded and the stuffed mushrooms were juicy and well seasoned. For my entree I had the scallops. They were fantastic! The asparagus risotto was creamy and super yummy. I have to say, I was incredibly impressed. I didn't order any drinks, but everyone who did seemed very satisfied. We decided to share the cappuccino cake, which was HUGE, with a scoop of chocolate and vanilla ice cream. It wasn't too overwhelmingly sweet, and satisfied the dark chocolate lover in me. read more

At here last night bc I was craving a margarita (go figure) but this time I wanted a frozen one. I ordered strawberry, I finished it but I wasn't like overly impressed with it, didn't taste very strawberry-e. Next time I'll probably not do frozen. Next, we decided to try the stuffed mushrooms which were delicious! Highly recommend. Our waitress Jennifer was awesome. She was super sweet & gave great suggestions. The nachos were also really good. Although, I would prefer if they had more cheese on them (I ordered extra), but I can also see why they don't put a lot bc it ends up being extremely filling. A size small of the nachos was HUGE for two, & I ended up not being able to order an entree (rare occasion). We also ordered the ahi tuna slices. I've had them before, they're ok.. I don't love this dish, but I don't hate it either. I'm not expecting anything over the top here anyways. Otherwise, our time here was really good, and as I said, great service. How to review a chain...it is what it is, I guess. Better than all the TGIs and Applebee's, on par with a Longhorns and such. This particular location is easy to get to with plenty of parking. The staff is always nice, service is pretty timely, my only gripe in that regard would be when you call in, it seems like you get passed around a few times before you actually get to order something for pickup. I don't understand that. Good quality food, wide variety, and plenty of beer to choose from, can't go wrong with this place if that's what you're looking for. read more

I used to love going to Houlihan's. Their food was always good. After last night I would never go again. My friends and I went about a month or 2 ago and it was o.k. We laughed at their $20.99 menu that included a variety of choices such as a 4 oz. filet mignon. Well that piece of meat was no bigger than a silver dollar. But it was ok. Last night there were 8 of us. Only 1 of us enjoyed their dinner and she was only one who didn't order from the $20.99 meal. I ordered a french dip that I wouldn't give to my dog. It was fatty and dry, and the au jus was all salt. A couple of them had the fish...that was awful. The impossible burger was horrible. The only good things were the appetizers.....we had fried cauliflower, potato soup and chicken fingers between us. The desserts were also good. We all agreed we will never go there again. I guess after they were sold the new owners don't feel quality is important! read more

I'm a big fan of the drinks & apps from Houlihan's! The shrooms & lettuce wraps are my absolute favorite! Nothing special about the place, typical chain restaurant, but they have different food to offer then Applebee's or Fridays. Give it a try for a drink & app! read more

So we got a coupon for giving a great view for a free app, we show up for dinner and get our app, order our meals and drinks, this is short version without cursing, I chug my beer down to get the waiters attention, hopefully he would say (you want another) and my answer would be, how about my soup I ordered? I pull the old trick, let me go to the bathroom and when I come back my food will be there, my wife had to ask for my soup and then walk pass me at least 5 times and never ask me for a drink. I don't give reviews, I manage a multi franchise dealership and get reviews all the time, so now it's my time, without being rude, the service sucked, finally brought my dinner out while still eating my soup and I tell the waiter, just give me the check, he says ok. Really! I'm sure it's great food, but the management is a joke. Never go back there. read more

Service was prompt & friendly, I do like the new tapas menu (although they're calling it "small plates" for some silly reason), and the pricing is what you'd expect. Called last week to make reservations for 9 people for 2 PM for Thanksgiving Day dinner. I was told I did not need to make reservations until Monday the 19th. Today I called to make sure. I was told "No we are booked until 6 PM". Seriously? This has always been our GO TO place! Not anymore. Maybe the people that answer the phones need to communicate with others. This is a solid 4.5 star review. I met a friend here for the first time a week ago. I ordered the chicken tender platter. I am an .expert on all things chicken and these tenders were amazing. They were gigantic and came with my choice of side(chose onion straws). There was A LOT of food, which is good because I have a huge appetite. One issue though, is the waitress said there'd be 7-9 tenders and there were only 6. Normally I'd complain, but my friend was kind enough to buy me dinner so didn't make a scene. I also ordered a coke. It did not taste fizzy like coke should, but wasn't flat either. still tolerable. Our waitress was very friendly too, and my friend and I sat at the table for 2 hours talking. Sandwiches were supposed to be premium Angus roast beef cooked in au jus and covered in aged provolone on a toasted baguette. I used to visit Houlihans all the time in Metuchen, NJ. The food was always great, and service excellent, and the manager always came over to chat. Then it closed, and then we moved down to Lakewood, NJ. We've been to the Houlihans down here 3 times once we decided to finally brave covid. This place is as great as our old place. Just ate there, and had one of my favorites from North Jersey- the scallops. They were prepared the exact same way as I remembered. And my girlfriend's meatloaf was heavenly. By far the best we had ever eaten. I had to steal a few bites from her plate. And our service from Diego on Friday was exceptional. So yes- you can trust Houlihans! (Oh, and they sterilized the menus, the tables, and we were at least 7 feet away from the next table.) read more

Don't bother making a reservation, they don't honor it. We left after 40 minutes. They don't care. Lots of tables for 2, push them together to accommodate. If you are taking reservations, then make it happen. Not have them wait 40 minutes. Unacceptable! Will not return for that reason. Was a Big fan of Houlihan's but this visit for my Birthday with family members was Horrible. Made reservations for a party of 6 on Jan. 30th for 7:30pm. I arrive at 7:15 and while waiting we asked the Host's if they had Prime Rib available because usually on Saturday nights they run out of Prime Rib early. The young ladies informed us and said yes and they have Baby Back Ribs with a side of Fries as a special. Well when we were finally seated at 7:45 the waitress was super nice but not on her game. She took our drink order's then later took our Apps order but getting another round of drinks took awhile and when she arrived with our drinks, she left all our empty glasses all over the table and then took our order in which 4 of us wanted the Prime Rib but couldn't see it on the menu. We asked the waitress why Prime Ribs not on the menu by the Steaks. She said they don't have Prime Rib anymore as a meal.. I had informed her that the Hosts told us they did. We were all very, very Upset hearing this and the waitress sent the manager on duty over later on and he explained due to Covid and smaller amounts of service during Pandemic they removed serving Prime Rib. This still was upsetting because this is the reason our party of 6 came to Houlihan's for the GREAT PRIME RIB. Two of us ended up having steaks in which were not that juicy or worth that kind of money for the quality of steak it was. Three other's had the Rack of Ribs that came out not that hot at all but nice portions. And one had the Salmon that was fine. But getting back to the App dishes they finally took them when our entrees came but left all the empty glasses on our table again. I'm talking like 2 to 3 glasses per person of a party of 6 left all over. The waitress walked by and asked is there anything else you need and then left the Bill. I stopped her and told her I had my Birthday coupon and my meal comes with Coffee or Tea and a desert she asked what would I like, I said without a menu I have no idea what you have. Instead of her getting us a menu, She told us a few items and we just got one Fudge Brownie with Vanilla Ice cream. She left without asking if anybody would like a desert or a coffee.. She came back 10 minutes later with my desert and a candle but we had no room on the table for my desert so we jokingly said we will exchange you for the desert if you can take our entrée dishes and the 20 plus glasses on our booth table we sat at. She took a few dishes and left the dirty glasses while we picked at the desert. She came back 5 minutes later with the Adjusted Bill and said have a good night and left.... Not a Good Dinner and service was very off that's for sure. Horrible Birthday dinner Experience at Houlihan's and I use to go there all the time for lunches and Dinners before the Pandemic took place. Almost the absolute worst service we have ever had. Server had no problem gossiping with her fellow servers in the aide station. Barely came over to our table. An app of wings took 40min. I ordered a corona and it came out extremely warm. We ordered from the prefix menu and were extremely disappointed. First we ordered the filet mignon and after bringing out the first course salad and 15 minutes later the waiter tells us that they ran out of the filet mignon. I asked if we could then substitute it with the ny strip and he said no due to the price difference. I looked at the menu and it was $1 difference so I asked to speak wit the manager. The manager came over to the table as if it was a bother to her with a very disgusted look on her face. I explained to her that I would pay the $1 difference and she was very firm in saying no that the menu says no substitutes allowed. I explained to her that it was not our fault that they ran out of the filet mignon and she stated that does not matter. So we ended up having to order the NY strip from the regular menu which was more expensive than the prefix menu which we could mo longer order from. I also ordered the scallops which came out over cooked and dried. I was so disappointed that I lost my appetite.
