I like Houlihan's. Even though it's attached to a hotel, the food was surprisingly good. My husband and I both ordered chicken with mashed potatoes and a yummy kiwi salad. The meal was flavorful and we both were pleased. It exceeded our expectations. Houlihan's is my go to restaurant! Every time I come here to eat the service is prompt and conversational, the food is consistently excellent, and the atmosphere is always just right. I would recommend a hundred times over the Thai wings and chicken Alfredo. I've taken my parents here, my campus friends, even my neighbors, this place is just that great. Besides the amazing food, I must have tried out every single dish, the servers really go out of their way to make it feel apart of the Houlihan's family. My daughter and I had lunch here. The atmosphere was very loud when we walked in but once we were seated and our order taken, the noise didn't seem as loud! The meal was better than I expected. I ordered the tomato bisque and a white bean salad (never had white bean salad before) The soup was so good I almost felt guilty eating it! Rich, creamy but the flavor was exceptional! The salad was also very tasty, It was just the right size for my amount of hunger. Tomatoes, field greens and white beans with perfect seasoning. I enjoyed it so much! My daughter got a burger and I asked for a taste, made me wish I had gotten the burger!! Best burger I had ever had, and I have had a lot of burgers. I don't eat them a lot but I get cravings sometimes and hunt for something to calm my craving, this one would satisfy any craving and they cooked it to perfection! The best part of this adventure was, I was in a hurry to get to a medical appointment and I left my credit card with the receipt (after tipping well over 20%, yes, they are that good!! And remember these hard workers only make $2.75 and hour, my son was a waiter, I know and so was I, minimum wage for servers hasn't changed since I was in my 20's and I am now in my 50's!! Sad!!) Back to my review....Tien, the server, retrieved my credit card and kept it with her. I called when I realized it was gone, she spoke to me, said she would be there till late and would take good care of it and she did. I got there 5 hours later, she came to me smiling, handed me my card she had kept firmly under her pad she wrote notes on, she said she knew how important it was so she didn't want it getting lost or in the wrong hands. I applaud her and Houlian's for employing folks with such character! She is one of a kind in my book and deserves a big pat on the back. I think everyone knows what could have happened to me on a trip out of town if my card had been stolen. I am so grateful to Tien and when back in the Herndon area I will eat at Houlihan's again and ask for her to be my server. We used to come here occasionally for home style cooking... I liked the meatloaf and fajitas. Tonight I was very disappointed, to the point where I wonder if maybe they have a new chef (or no chef). I ordered the pot roast and it was virtually inedible. First it was topped with what were supposed to be onion straws, but were soggy, greasy onions. The meat in the pot roast was pretty much inedible. Some was excessively fatty (not unexpected in pot roast); other pieces were tough and difficult to cut. I simply could not eat the dish, and won't be going back anytime soon. I hate it when I have to cross a restaurant off my list of places to go. read more

After traveling all day, I was glad to have a restaurant at the hotel. We do not have Houlihan's where I live, so I didn't know what to expect. I ordered the Chile lime shrimp, with a loaded baked potato, salad with balsamic vinegarette, and a margarita. I was surprised that the margarita was so large. It is twice as large as many restaurants we go to at home. The balsamic was very good with the salad. I was very happy with the shrimp and baked potato. They were cooked perfectly, and would highly recommend and order again. I am in town for 5 days and plan to eat there again. The service was ok. When traveling, and dining alone I don't like to be bothered anyways. The issue I had, was when I was finished, I waited almost 10 minutes to get my bill. read more

The service at the bar is incredible, they are friendly, attentive servers who always are looking out for all of the customers, no matter how busy it gets. These guys are awesome! I have now been to this place twice and can officially say I am a huge fan. The service both times was fantastic, really had a nice conversations with waiters both times which was nice. The food is so well cooked and delicious. And I know a lot of people say they are expensive, but the portion sizes have been huge both times we have gone. In fact next time I am considering just getting a starter and a main to share! So overall I would definitely recommend this place. One of my favourites for good all round food. read more

Houlihans has updated their menu again, so I am back to sing their praises. First I had the Pot Roast Mac and Cheese. It was very good and decadent. I am not a big mac and cheese guy, but their pot roast is one of my favorites so I had to try it. I was not dissappointed. Next I had the Fish and Chips. Three BIG pieces of fish cooked perfectly. It is served with a special dill sauce which was a pleasent change from the tarter sauce usually associated with Fish and Chips. There is as nice cole slaw added for good measure. YUM. I am looking forward to the Chicken Enchiladas tomorrow. I have said it before, Houlihans is NOT your normal hotel restaurant. If you want some excellent food served by friendly, knowledgeable staff, this is the place to go. read more

We were there on a Sat nite, arriving about 6:30. Were seated after about a 5 minute wait for the host to appear -- lots of empty tables. Took maybe 10 minutes for the waiter to show and ask for drinks which took another 10 to show up. We ordered then, sandwiches with soup. Well, you guessed it 10-15 minutes for soup and then another 10 for food to show. My friend left her car keys in her checked luggage. Some how our checked luggage didn't make our flight & the next one was over 24hrs later so the airline put us in hotel & the hotel gave us a voucher for their restaurant. The information of us being allowed to take drinks and silverware to room was my first experience. My friend also had french onion soup & wings. Horrible service. This is why: one guy gives you a menu after 7 minutes of waiting, another guy gives you a happy hour menu and third guy asks, "have you been helped? because I thought he took your order"; there's a communication and lack of customer service breakdown. I travel quite often for business and the convenience of having a restaurant connected to the hotel makes the trip of getting food a lot easier. HOWEVER, when you've been ignored and then more concerned with what the TV has on, I'm NOT impressed. Truly disheartening. I stay at the Crown Plaza many times but this service at the bar as well as the restaurant on previous trips is absolutely SLOW & AWFUL. Worth the walk across the street to something else. read more
