I was Media for a workshop and lucked out when Iron Hill had a line out the door & we found House. The waiter was gracious and efficient & the food was delicious. Our waiter brought us a sample of the Soup of the Day (Celery root) so we could decide if we liked it (we did). Highly recommend this place. Such a nice addition to the media dinner scene - delicious food, simple atmosphere, right sized and reasonably priced. We loved just about everything we had - the small plates are perfect for a light meal. Especially loved the Mushroom Gorgonzola Risotto - SO delicious. And the Chai Pumpkin dessert was amazing! The chef was courteous in sending out a taste of the lobster mashed potatoes (OMG) because they were running a bit behind on the service - and we'll order that again!! Will definitely frequent again soon - but will make reservations - their new dinner service is becoming popular quickly. read more

My friend and I were looking forward to trying this place because it looked really cute and the food looked delicious. However, when we went in, the wait staff told us that that it would be a 15-20 minute wait. We would have been fine with that, however, we noticed that there were multiple empty tables, which confused us to why they were not willing to at least seat us and bring us water, ask us if we'd like a coffee or tea, etc., and/or at least that they were backed up and apologize for the wait (if that were the case) but they'd be with us as soon as possible. However, that was not the case. Two women came in after us, and they were told that it'd be a half-hour wait, and they looked in, seeing that there were also empty tables, and were just as confused as we were. Eventually, we decided that we would prefer to eat elsewhere, at left. I don't know if we just came on a bad day or if there were external factors that we were unaware of, but it was not a good experience. read more

Okay, I'm going to say it... I liked the old House better. The waiter service is slowwww and the food took so long to come out. When you have a finite amount of time for lunch, House is no longer a great choice. Giving three stars for the gluten free bread... it's pretty good as far as gf bread goes. try the slugger! read more

This place is amazing. Been here twice, ordered a king khan sandwich first time, then the second time got their half Stack, half king khan salad with the soup of the day (tomato). Everything was excellent, you can really tell they put a lot of effort into their food, which is incredibly fresh and always delicious. Great service also, our waiter was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended for anyone who's looking for an amazing lunch, although I've heard they offer dinner now too, so I'll have to come back. read more

We ate lunch here today- Saturday. The 40 minute wait for soup and two cold paninis could not compare to the nasty, condescending attitude the manager displayed when this problem was brought to his attention. Not only did he not apologize but he told me that it was Saturday (as if I did not know the day) and that is what should be expected. The restaurant was not even filled to capacity. He continued by suggesting that, when I come again, to come at 10:00 am so it would be not crowded. Is this a response a patron should receive given the fact that we were not treated as respectable, paying customers? The bill was thrown onto our table, and when I left, I informed the manager that I would be posting a review of his inconsiderate treatment towards us. He then, again, instead of responding apologetically, , told me I should eat at McDonald's if I did not want to wait for hand crafted food. How dare a restaurant manager, whose goal is to assure return customers, insult my intelligence and level of food choice? My recommendation is not to patronize this restaurant because there are so many competitors, especially in Media, who would be more than happy to treat their customers with dignity and cordiality. read more

Looking forward to trying it,having heard good things from my daughter so added our name to the wait list Saturday 10/19. Hostess said 15 minutes so I said ok we'll come back in about 10. Without missing a breath she replied ' I said 15' . I guess I looked surprised because she quickly said it was ok to check back in 10. I let her know when we returned and she then told me ' 3 more minutes. Your table will be ready in 3 minutes, 1:46'. I stepped outside and told my husband we were leaving and then stepped back in and told her to forget it. She said she didn't mean anything by to which I replied that she needn't have told me the exact time we'd be permitted to sit and how my more minutes we had to wait. Wow! How about ' great, you're back. Your table is just about ready'. This on top of a 15 minute wait because, even though there were a number of empty tables, ' service wouldn't be good if we were seated right away'. What! No thanks. read more

Great little BYOB. Menu was eclectic and interesting (hamburger benedict, pulled pork with eggs) and really good. I would have given 5 stars but we had to wait an hour and my omelet was slightly cold. Might have been because we sat under an a/c vent but it was worth it. The staff is lovely, offered us hot coffee or tea while we waited. Even the owner came out and apologized for being so busy, which was nice but unnecessary. We will definitely come back (not during the height of dinner or brunch hopefully). I highly recommend you try it, especially since this is one of Media's few BYOBs let alone restaurants and was recently highlighted in Philly magazine. read more

This was our first visit to House since it opened for dinner. We are considerable foodies and were really impressed with everything we had, including the warm dinner roll with chive/garlic butter, to the remarkable, light mushroom soup with bleu cheese, the as-good-as-it gets mac 'n gruyere cheese with spinach and crab, the over-the-top scallops with a potato-bacon-apple hash and citrus arugula salad, and a to-die-for strawberry rhubarb pie. The ingredients were of high quality and the creativity and skill of preparation were superb. Our server was very knowledgable and helpful. He clearly took pride in his work and in the food. The atmosphere was homey, friendly, and local. Service was slow, but that gave us lots of time to savor the marvelous food. Quite a find! read more

Absolutely the best grilled cheese panini I've ever had! Made with Brie, basil, and tomatoes on fresh baked bread. Portion was just right. The service was outstanding. Dessert was butterscotch cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream that made me want to lick the plate! So good! I don't know why there wasn't a line down the street to get in. It was that good. This is possible the worst customer service ever!!!! Our company ordered lunch and picked it up only to get back to the office to get the wrong food. When we called to correct the issue they basically said there's nothing they can do and they were not willing to deliver the correct order. "Their phone girl doesn't make mistakes". At least an apologize would've been nice. There is an allergy and the food could NOT be eaten. When asked for a manager she stated she was the manager and wasn't willing to do anything to fix the issue other then have us drive back. Which we could not do due to already making one trip. This is unacceptable and we will NOT be ordering from there again!!!! I will pass the word along and be sure everyone is aware of the horrible service. read more

Stopped in to grab a take out lunch, thinking house still had its tiny take out set-up and found a bigger restaurant with plenty of seating for a causal sit down lunch. I heard good things about the King Khan sandwich so I got the 1/2 Sandwich and half house salad deal. My bf got the Shiva Curried Chicken salad sandwich. When I brought it home I was definitely jealous of the Shiva chicken salad sandwich my beau got, which was really yummy. My house salad came with a dressing that was super oily and I thought made the mixed greens even more bitter than they already were. Also, I thought the buffalo chicken sandwich was overpowered by the Gorgonzola cheese to the point where I wasn't positive if it actually had chicken on it or not. The bread was really good though, so I think that sandwich was just not my particular flav, but i'd like to try House again because they had a bunch of other tasty sounding options. My husband and I went to Media's Jazz night last night and started with reservations at House. Let me just say, the food is worth the wait! I couldn't tell you how long we actually waited for our food (which was: some kind Of salad that started with a "p" $7, the mushroom Gorgonzola risotto $12, and the autumnal penne $16 - all vegetarian, btw) but we had finished off about 2/3 of the bottle by the time our food came out. But it was totally worth the wait. The salad had this amazing citrus vinaigrette that was so perfectly sweet and citrus. Plus the arugula balanced out the sweet and the shaved Parmesan added some salt to the salad. So good! The mushroom risotto was good with Gorgonzola melted it. It was perfectly gooey so as to not overwhelm the natural creaminess that risotto has. The autumnal penne was outstanding! Creamy red sauce with al dente penne seasoned perfectly with green beans finely chopped and cooked to perfection. It also had perfectly cooked cubes of butternut squash (which made the sauce itself a little creamy). The waiter was also able to give us gluten free bread upon request. It was only 2 pieces but it was gluten free. *shrugs* The other reviews are right: you will wait a long time. But the food is worth it. So don't go if you're on a schedule. Go when you can spend an evening drinking some wine (it's BYOB) and enjoying the company you're with over some thoughtfully crafted and perfectly executed original dishes! read more

I have been here several times now for dinner, and the food is fresh and high quality. They utilize local ingredients, and I often find myself trying vegetables I have never tried before. Went there specifically for the typically delicious Brisk and Eggs. I was presented with an actual smaller plate than usual. It contained the usual 2 eggs however it only had a few pieces of potato and a few pieces of brisket reducing the normal small plate of food by about 1/3. My 2 companions who had seen the dish before agreed it was small. The toast which I paid for separately was also smaller than usual. I left feeling hungry, disappointed and like I didn't get what I paid for. Consistency is key to return customers. If you are going to shrink a plate food you should tell your customers and explain why. If I encounter another minuscule plate for the same price I will not be a returning customer. read more

I do love the food, the prices and the service; HOWEVER, tonight I got a 'wift' of another sort in this restaurant. We were seated about 7 feet from the one bathroom in the restaurant. The door was left wide open and my dinner view was that of a toilet with the lid up. I asked the waiter to move the screen more in front of the door, and he did. Didn't help. In addition, after about the 10th patron went in, my guests and I got to experience the smell of urine. Something needs to be done about the bathroom. There is literally a table for two right outside the door, separated by a flimsy screen. ugg. very disappointed and probably not very sanitary. I will still eat at this restaurant but will sit in another room and will continue to bitch and complain until this situation is remedied. No one should have to endure the smell of urine from the bathroom or the sight of an opened toilet while eating. Come on HOUSE manager, do something~~ read more

Went for brunch today - four of us. One good meal - a grilled cheese. The other three were real disappointments - Florence (stale muffin you couldn't cut with a knife), BLT (limp, precooked bacon), and Brisk & Eggs (watery). I've had a couple of good meals here in the past, but this makes two disappointing brunches and I'm not going to try for three. The restaurants on State Street just keep getting better. House is a small, cozy setting tucked away in Media. The food is definitely overpriced for the small amount of food you end up with but the taste is worth a trip. The tomato soup is to die for with almost any panini. As a vegetarian I was happy to see their sandwiches were able to cater to my needs without sacrificing the delicious taste. The staff is friendly as well. Not a place I'd go to often seeing as I could get cheaper food elsewhere but definitely worth checking it out. read more
