Been here a few times and am always satisfied afterwards. I actually crave their specific sandwiches sometimes- they are that good! Salads are great as well. The only reason I am giving a 4/5 is because the last time I visited my panini was burned- not lightly burned, but burned so I had to do some scraping. I understand things happen- I burn alot of things myself but if I were making something for someone else I would definitely redo it in this case. I guess it depends on whos making the sandwiches the day you order- but every other time orders were amazing and will keep me coming back! read more

I wanted to like the new, expanded House so much more than I did. Service was mediocre at best at brunch, and everything about the experience just seemed like House is trying too hard to be hipstery-cool. The old menu (primarily grilled cheese and soup) still exists, but we ordered off the brunch menu. I had the brisket benedict, which was tasty (but needed a bit more hollandaise sauce); my husband had the french toast. He said it was okay, but the dish was tiny--two small pieces of baguette. Based one the reviews, I was looking forward to having dinner here. Let me first say, we were a party of 18. The service was terrible. It took up to two hours for the food to come. Some were served in a timely manner, while others watched them eat. Then the second batch of orders came out and the ones who were served first got to watch them eat. Love this place! It's Media's best hidden secret! Would "treat" myself to lunch when I wanted more than an ordinary grilled cheese/soup...heard they expanded and serving dinner, and couldn't wait to try their menu. It did not disappoint! Although menu it not extensive, but changes frequently, the quality an quantity were, I feel, above anything else Media has to offer. BYOB makes it even more affordable. It is not a huge establishment, tiny but tidy bathroom, but overall a wonderful dining experience. read more

Tried to go there for brunch but they had no tables for five available. Waiter suggested we put two small tables together (they had plenty of room and little tables) but manager wouldn't allow it.Staff was wonderful but the manager was rude and not welcoming. Stopped here today, just wandered in. Came with my family. Saw the Yelp sticker, and thought to check out other local restaurants on the site. Cool site! Hope to have some fun with it. Honestly, the food was really great. It did feel "like home". Very small, modest space. But good flavors and very fresh soup, (we walked in when they had just made some tomato). We had a few salads, and a grilled cheese for the kids. However, all around, the service wasn't really the best. When I asked the woman preparing the food, for tap water for the table, she acted very inconvenienced. Our one sandwich came out incorrect, and instead of apologizing, she gave a half sincere, "yeah, i'll get it" response. The other woman, (who I assume was the owner?) quickly made it and brought it out, apologizing. Maybe we came on an off day, because it seems, according to reviews, that the staff and food is always second to none. Just wanted to write a review to let other families know that although the food is great, it didn't really have the feel of the kind of place where you can have someone wait on you, and have multiple requests for a comfortable meal. The wraps here are AMAZING. They're made daily and are super freakin' fresh. You can definitely taste the love that's put into preparing them. They may look a bit small, but the flavor is HUGE. I recommend the El Nino and the King Khan. King Khan has a spicy kick so if you don't like the heat, grab a different wrap - there's plenty to choose from! read more

We were invited to celebrate a friend's birthday last week by his wife. She suggested several local restaurants. None of us had eaten at House before and as we are always up for something new, House was chosen. WHAT A MISTAKE!!! We were the only people in the restaurant on a Friday night! The cheese plate was extremely small. We chatted about the small menu which was confusing as it had very little of an explanation of the choices. Lots of questions were asked, but the pleasant waitress had few answers, just guesses. We needed to ask her several times to go ask someone else the question. Still the answers were limited. There for 4 entrees: salmon with risotto, meatloafW/mashed potatoes, chicken, and coffee encrusted roast pork. When asked about the sides for the pork, the response was mashed black beans and salsa. Hmmm- Since when is salsa a 'side'? When pressed to explain the sides more specifically, we got giggles and not much more. Not caring for the other choices, I took a chance and went with the pork & ordered a side of mashed potatoes. I asked if the side would be regular mashed potatoes or something more creative. "Oh they're just regular mashed white potatoes." was her answer. NOT! To say the least, when it arrived (after 40 plus min. - remember, we were the only people there) I just stared at a brown mush covered plate with very, very, very, very red centered thick slices of pork loin. No one at the table could tell me which was was the mashed bean side from the 'brown' salsa. I love creative food preparations and presentations, but slippery mustard colored mashed potatoes served on a saucer, not so much! I should mention - no time during our 2hrs. at the empty, sans us, restaurant did anyone of the several people in the kitchen, which is located right behind our table, came out to ask if we enjoyed our meal, were we comfortable, could we answer your questions a little better than our staff, etc. On the brighter side, 2 guests ordered the blueberry cobbler (also on a saucer) & I ordered the honey cake. The cobbler was shared and like by all. I offered the generous serving of cake, recommending everyone take from the middle, as the outside was burnt. Middle was very good. Good thing I like well done and crispy - but not with a cake, however. We paid the bill - 5 people, over $200 with no alcohol. Still, NO ONE came to us thanking us for out patronage, wished us us good evening, NOT A WORD - we just left................. SUGGESTIONS: Find out how to treat customers from the back of the house to the front. Look at a few cooking channels that focus on the aesthetics of food COOKING & SERVING. Train your staff on the menu, preparations, etc. and when they should retrieve correct and complete answers . Keep in mind, if patrons don't come back, they will tell others of their experience. Every time someone walks in your door, you must see them as the most important person of your day. After all, in the end, they pay you for what you promise to give them, simply by being in the restaurant business. If you don't produce, they just won't come back and you lose in the end. read more

Food is good, the services is ABYSMAL. This restaurant will not provide a dinner menu before 530. We arrived early for our 5PM reservation. The manager would not seat us prior to 5PM, even though the restaurant was EMPTY and the TABLES WERE SET. They refused to take our order prior to 530 because we requested a dinner menu. We asked for appetizers in the interim, but they had few options and still wouldn't take our order for appetizers until 5:30. Then, appetizers did not come out until 630. Entrees came out around 715, but by then some of our party had left because they weren't served. When I asked about the delay, the manager stated that we had "UNREASONABLE REQUESTS," because we "wanted a dinner menu before 5:30." I responded, regardless of their "rules" it still took over an hour since 530 to receive appetizers and one hour and 45 minutes for dinner. I felt this manager was rude, obnoxious and did not create a positive atmosphere. The entire dinner, I felt that I was inconveniencing them by being there. Although the food was good, we will not be returning. read more

I went to House with 3 friends after participating in a 5K. We found it online and the menu looked great! We got to the restaurant and were promptly seated but waited 10-15 minutes for menus (which we had to ask for). All of us ordered eggs of some variety and 2 of us also got bagels. After waiting over an hour and asking repeatedly the status of our food, we finally got it. Although everyone enjoyed the meal, it was nothing special and my one friend did not get the bacon on her bagel sandwich that she ordered. The waitress did not apologize once for the wait. We finally asked for the manager who gave the most insincere apology. She spoke over us and didn't seem to care that we were dissatisfied. She said "we cook everything to order". I would hope that eggs would always be cooked to order! I could make an omelet in 10 minutes at home. I didn't need to wait over an hour for mine. Additionally, my sister got coffee and never received milk/sugar although she asked for it. It's a shame it didn't work out because the menu was good but we will NOT be returning. read more

I wanted to like this place So much. My fiance and I went for Sunday brunch and we decided to just consider the experience "brunch and a show" with the chaos we encountered. The atmosphere was bright and refreshing and we were so enthused by themenu. To their credit, they sourced the meat from humane farms and other local farms. However, the service was atrocious. It seemed the left hand had no idea what the right was doing. It took forever to get the order taken, longer to be served. Then my omelet was wrong (I almost Never send food back) it was hard to chew it was so overcooked, the cheese was the wrong type, and I just didn't like it. After a long while we were finally able to flag the server and she was clearly annoyed and tried and tried to convince me I should like it and eat it. Finally she conceded and, as expected, after a long while I got a new omelet that was sub par and the inside was jelly-like. We waited longer for the check and were brought the wrong change. My wife and I attempted to dine here during Media restaurant week and were severely disappointed. For our first course we ordered the brussels sprouts and bacon and the hummus. The brussels sprouts were under-seasoned, and the hummus was extremely plain. For the main course my wife ordered the pork loin and I ordered the kale and cheddar stuffed meatloaf. First off, both of our dishes came out ice cold. The only time I have had pork loin that cold is when I have eaten leftovers from the fridge at home. My dish however, was much worse. My meatloaf was served with overdone haricot vert (green beans) covered in a nearly frozen congealed white sauce, tasteless and cold mashed potatoes, a cold mush of a meatloaf, all dressed with a nice layer of orange grease at the bottom of my plate. I told the waiter that the food was simply unacceptable, so he took our plates and brought us a check for the two sub-par appetizers. No apologies, no attempts to make anything better, and not even a word from the manager. This was the worst restaurant experience I have ever had in Media. read more

I saw this place last night on Yelp because my wife and I were looking for a cool little place to have lunch today 3/3/2010. The reviews were very good, mostly 4-5 stars. We give it 5 stars. This place is so cool. and the food is outstanding. My wife had the home made tomato soup (awesome) and the Greek Lady sandwich that has hummus and a lot of other greek stuff on it, she loved it. I had the green pea w / ham soup ( again, awesome ) and the Stilton, I think thats what it was called, grilled cheese sandwich. It had aged sharp cheddar, gargonzola, and apple slices on it. OMG...I loved it. Tried one of the home made harvest bars too. Very good. House is just a small little place, only open for lunch. Its almost like eating lunch in your own kitchen. There are 6 two seat tables inside and 2 tables outside. The two people who were working there were very friendly, I think the one guy was the owner. This place is definately on the top of my list for favorite lunch spots from now on. Maybe I'll go back tomorrow and try the corn chowder. I read the reviews and thought this place sounded interesting and something out of the ordinary and went for lunch. I ordered the Octoburfest panini. The table I sat at was so sticky it felt like glue. I decided to add a bowl of tomato soup to my order. The cook brought over my sandwich and soup. I saw a loose hair on my plate but dismissed that and didn't think more of it. I started to eat my soup and saw a hair emerging out of my bowl......I had to ask the cook to take it away and discretely told him about the hair, which was now turning my stomach. The sandwich was okay at best, more bread than meet and the apple chutney tasted more like just raisins. The 2-3 spoonfuls of soup I had were good but again, nothing out of the ordinary. The drink selection was terrible. I wondered if this was a bad day and should try another time and then I saw one of the (not so customer-friendly) staffers erasing the Daily Soup Board, which had a pot of soup cooking beneath it. Bad day is one thing, unsanitary habits do not deserve a 2nd chance. read more

I would love to give House 5 stars, as the food is amazing, everytime. However due to the young kid that seems to now be the front face of the place, I have to give it 2 stars. His attitude makes me not want to give the place business. I have been coming to House since opening day, and loved when the owner was in "house" more. The past several times I have gone, it has been this young boy. He is cold, and not friendly. When I called at 4:30pm after work to place an order to take-out- I was told, we close at 5:00PM..I am aware of that- its 4:30, that is why I am calling the order in ahead of time, and will be there before 5pm. When I arrived at 4:45, he was sweeping the floors, and as soon as I entered the door, he immediately looked at the clock on the wall and made an "annoyed" face. You are open until 5pm not 4:45pm, don't start with your attitude. He did not greet me at all, instead continued to sweep the floor, and ignore me. I then had to tell him I was here for the pick up order. I asked " so I assume you try to close before 5pm" he replied, no we just dont want to be here until 7pm. I ordered a sandwich that states on the menu comes on a white baguette, and every other time I have ordered it, it comes on a white baguette.... when I arrived home with the sandwich this evening, it was on foccacia bread- interesting, you would have thought that the kid would have made mention to the fact, and maybe I would have made another choice or selection. As stated, earlier, its a shame that the nice man who owns the store is not around as much - as that would make the place a much more pleasant experience, as this is the 2nd time this kid has had a bad attitude. read more

Had brunch here today with friends. We were all happy with the food and wait service, but the initial interaction with the hostess left a bad taste in my mouth. As we arrived first, I told the hostess we were meeting friends for a noon reservation. She told me they don't take reservations for brunch. I put our names in and was told it would be 15-20 minutes. When our friends arrived, the one who had made the reservation went to speak with the hostess. She told her that she indeed had a reservation taken yesterday by a female worker. The hostess confirmed the information and said she'd honor the reservation. When she had a table ready and was going to seat us, she said, "Just so you know for future reference, we DON'T take reservations for brunch." I told her she ought to inform her staff of that to which she replied that the person who had taken the reservation was new. I didn't care for her excuse or chastisement (which the tone clearly indicated it to be). Her staff took the reservation. Not my problem and really poor customer relations to make us feel like we'd done something wrong. I have eaten here many times and recommended it to friends. Forget it going forward. I don't care to be treated like a naughty child when I was simply out to enjoy brunch with friends. read more

My friend and I had lunch at House today and it was fantastic! The service was great and the food was amazing. We both had the half and half, which was a cup of soup and half a sandwich. We both ordered the pea soup and the BLT. The soup was so fresh and so tasty - - I could have eaten a huge bowl full!!! The sandwich was put together with care and pride and delivered 150% in the taste. Again, I could have eaten more just because it was just so good. The portions for the price were spot on. I didn't leave hungry. I was comfortably full and satisfied. The bread was toasted perfectly. I noticed as other people received their orders and thought about how much I would like to try all the items on their menu - - especially the paninis because the bread looked mouthwatering! The restaurant is small and extremely organized and clean. There is a healthy and comfortable atmosphere and the service was perfect. I recommend HOUSE to everyone!!!!! I have always been a fan of House. I have always really loved the salads and the paninis, specifically the House salad and the Jackson panini. Today was my first time to the newly renovated House, and I loved the expansion and the new decor. I was really impressed with how cozy and quaint the restaurant feels. Also, now the restaurant has waiters, which is different than how it used to be, but a nice new added touch. Anyway, I keep returning because I love the food, however the portion sizes are extremely small. I always leave House still feeling hungry afterwards. I spent $9.50 today on a half&half (half sandwich, half salad combo) and my sandwich looked like it belonged to one of the seven dwarfs. It's very frustrating that I spend almost $10 on lunch that does not fill me up. I love everything about the restaurant except the portion sizes. If they gave more food I would be a lot more satisfied with my experience at House. read more

Three of us went for brunch on Saturday. We walked in and smelled nothing as if no food had been cooking. The restaurant was really cold. The food took too long. When it finally came, two of us ordered the same omelet that was not prepared the same way. All of our omelets were cold. One of us sent ours back to be warmed up, 10 minutes later still waiting our waitress was nowhere to be found. When she did pass by, she refused to make eye contact with our table. When we inquired about the meal as 10 min had passed, the attitude and facial expression of the waitress was unacceptable. No apology was offered. We had to ask for coffee refills. We had really been looking forward to this experience and while the restaurant is nice, music good and menu nice, the service was so bad that we have no interest in returning. Nothing worse then waiting too long for a hot meal on a freezing day and getting a cold dish with an attitude. read more
