Very disappointing experience. We arrived for lunch with a group of 8 people and, from the moment we walked in, the hostess made us feel like she was doing us a favor by seating us. She repeatedly told us she was "making an exception" for our party. Then she lectured us about having to sit at two separate tables with two separate checks. What really crossed the line was when she said, "If I see you passing food between tables, we'll stop serving you." That comment was unnecessary, disrespectful, and completely inappropriate. We were paying customers, not asking for free food or special treatment. There's a time and place to explain restaurant policies, but the way they were communicated made us feel unwelcome before we had even ordered. Hospitality is about making guests feel valued, and unfortunately, that was completely missing here. We chose to leave rather than spend our money somewhere we clearly didn't feel wanted. Since there isn't a Houston's in my area anymore, I was excited to try their legendary Hawaiian steak. We ordered the Hawaiian steak entrée along with a crab cake entrée to create our own surf-and-turf combination. The steak was just okay. It had good flavor and was tender, but there were quite a few fatty pieces throughout. The loaded baked potato was as good as ever and ended up being my favorite part of the meal. The crab cakes were average--nicely golden and crisp on the outside with plenty of lump crab meat, but they could have used more seasoning. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, but the wait for outdoor seating was between 45 minutes and an hour. If you'd like to sit outside, I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance. Overall, we had a nice dining experience. While the food didn't quite live up to my expectations, the atmosphere was pleasant and I'd be open to giving it another try. read more

I am an absolute Houston's fanatic! I am always here for special occasions with my family. I am pescatarian so most of my options here are delicious. Great seafood and great drinks. They don't have an actual dessert menu so you have to ask the wait staff for what they have for the day. The shrimp cocktail was terrific, the salads were perfectly seasoned and crunchy. My only slight annoyance was that the old fashioned came with a handful of crushed ice instead of a large I it's possibly the first steakhouse I've ever been to that does not have a larger ice cube. Went to Houston's for lunch today. Got a nice table and was looking forward to a great lunch. Started with the shrimp appetizer that was very good. We ordered the French dip and the double cut pork chop (med well), as well as two ice tea, a glass of ice and a glass of water no ice. It was a hot day but there was a decent breeze. The entree's took a while but not too long. The French dip came out looking great but the double cut pork chop was not double cut at all. It was two pork chops. We looked at the chops and said what happened to the double cut? They took it back but the manager returned with the same plate and said when customers order "well done" we cut it in half. I proceeded to let him know we didn't order well done, we ordered medium well. He then said they cut medium well chops in half as well? I have ordered this many times and never had it cut in half ? I asked them to leave the chop intact (uncut) and cook it however done they need to leave it in one piece. My wife kept her French dip and was completely finished when my new chop was served. To my surprise the new chop was at least medium + , (almost medium well). They could have done this initially and we wouldn't have had any issue. I ate my pork chop while my wife waited. No in an establishment like this one would think they would have done something like comp the ice teas or served us a dessert to share or something? Nope, absolutely nothing. The servers here work in a team environment and you ask one server for water and another brings it. That system "DOES NOT WORK". Refills were very slow. Getting additional silverware was too slow, getting more ice was ridiculously slow and when I asked for the check it took 10 minutes. We had been there for over 1.5 hours for lunch and nothing seemed to go right. Each time I politely brought our needs to the attention of a server, it took way too long and someone else only sometimes filled our request. I've been coming to this Houston's for over 10 years and it just seems to me they're going downhill. The servers are friendly and nice people but I think it's time to change management. The buddy system they have for servers is terrible and the manager seems to want to make mis steps your fault not the restaurants? Very unfortunate. With it all, I still (begrudgingly) left a 15% tip only because the servers smiled and were pleasant while making us wait for every single thing we requested. read more

This chain of restaurants always does a great job, no matter how they're named. We had a nice dinner at their Pompano (Houston's) location. Beautiful setting by the waterway. We were seated on the patio and the food and service was up to their usual excellent standard. My only suggestions would be to have stronger fans above on the patio because once the food arrives the flies descend, and those little table fans don't cut it. Also perhaps they could allow the staff, especially in Florida, in summer, to wear a lighter, less heavy outfit. They looked so uncomfortable swathed in starchy black, "like nuns" one diner observed. I just flew back to S. Florida and the first stop after dropping off the luggage was Houston's in Pompano Beach. Again, day or night, this restaurant is excellent. Alex was my server and she was "Houston's perfect". I can't say enough about the laid back yet upscale vibe they've created here. It's never pretentious but it's always elevated. That is the same description I would give the food, too. I had the fish sandwich again and it's just phenomenal. The fish is light and yet crispy. It has been years, more than 9, since I ate at this Houston's, and they did not disappoint. I am used to eating at their Boca Raton location, about 10 minutes from our home. Returning home from an appointment in Ft. Lauderdale, we decided to stop here for an early lunch - 11:30 -- and to dine on their terrace, adjacent to the intracoastal. By 12:30, every table outside was occupied, and it was great to not have to wait for a table. Our server was Brooke, and she was outstanding. While formal in her demeanor, she was able to and did smile on many occasions. We received our Perriers icy cold and cappuccino very hot, as requested, and the food runners were efficient. My husband had the crispy chicken sandwich with well done fries, and it was humongous, and equally as tasty. Could only eat one half, and took the rest home. I had the veggie burger, and honestly, cannot recall the last time I had eaten one. To my surprise, it was delicious, and also huge. We started with their jumbo shrimp cocktail with home made sauces. The plate, with 5 very large shrimp, was delicious. Just cold enough, looking as fresh as one would want, and at $25, was well priced. The only problem for a serving of 5 shrimp between two people - - who gets the 5th one? Well, couples who share stay together longer, so that 5th shrimp was divided between us. It was served on top of butter lettuce, and I ate every piece, dipping in the sauces. Valet parking, no charge, as well as self parking. While many people include in their reviews that this is part of a chain, I don't see that as a negative. They give you a consistently well prepared meal, with ingredients fresh and prepared well. Servers are well trained, clean-looking (no one sweating into your food), so what's the big deal that this is a chain establishment. Will I return? Of course. read more

My boyfriend and I recently dined here and were blown away. I have been hearing of Houston's / Hillstone for so long and needed to know if it was worth the hype. We had a Friday night reservation.There is complementary valet. When we arrived we just had to wait a few minutes to be seated. The place was packed! I highly recommend making a reservation. The space is large, but dimly lit which created a nice vibe. To start, we obviously started with the spinach and artichoke dip, which truly lived up to the hype. We doubted the amount of chips at first but it ended up being the perfect amount. Our server even offered extra chips but we declined. My boyfriend and I both chose the same entree which was the Hawaiian ribeye. The steak was cooked perfectly medium. It was buttery, delicious melt in your mouth perfection. The fries served with were light and crispy. For drinks, we got the jackrabbit, made with reposado tequila, Campari, grapefruit juice & mint, which we both really enjoyed. We were finally able to get a table today for dinner and it was worth the wait. The food was very good but the service was better. Our drinks were never empty and our waitress was very attentive. We both got ribs which were delicious. The portion size was perfect in the taste was very good with the meat falling off the bones. A nice touch was the hot towel afterwards to get all of the barbecue sauce. It can get a little loud inside because of the way the seating is, however it was very nice and everything was very clean. Houston's think they're this bougie high-end restaurant and maybe at one point they were in good competition with others but now there were so many other places to go. We had a lunch reservation at Houston's and arrived with our family, including our 5-month-old baby. We were shocked to be told that they "do not allow strollers" anywhere inside or outside the restaurant. Our baby cannot sit on his own yet, so a stroller is absolutely necessary. We even tried to compromise and asked if we could sit in the bar area instead, but they still declined to accommodate us. As a result, we were completely turned away despite having a reservation. This restaurant is clearly not kid-friendly, and the lack of flexibility or empathy from the staff was extremely disappointing. Ever since we moved to Pompano, we go to Houston's to celebrate our anniversary or birthday. We love coming here and sitting by the water at night, it's a very peaceful ambience. The food is great & the service is excellent. We always order the spinach/artichoke dip, it's our go-to starter & occasionally the oysters. For meals, we juggle between the sashimi tuna salad, cheese burger, jumbo lump crab cakes, salmon or the prime filet. All great - but we usually tend to get full with appetizers alone and always take food to go. So becareful when ordering too much. The creamed corn is also a favorite side we usually gravitate towards to. But most importantly for desert - always go for the hot fudge Sunday! It's a 10/10 all by itself! This place is awesome! We sat at the outside bar on the ICW for lunch. The views of the River and boats going by make sitting outside a must. I mean why would you sit inside here unless the weather was horrible? I had the shaved rib eye French dip and it was excellent. Plenty of shaved meat and delicious soft bread with a side of fries. The au jus was not the least bit salty and there was plenty of horse radish dip lip, fry sauce and ketchup included. No need to even ask for it. Love that. The service at the bar was spot on. My ice tea was backed up by a full glass before I ever hit the bottom. Lindsey, the bar keep, was attentive and engaging. I never once had to ask for anything. Her anticipation and attentiveness was completely on task. Price wise this place is expensive as one should expect with the water front location. Parking is easy and there is valet available but the walk from the lot is a breeze. Great place, great views, great service and my lunch was a 10. Definitely recommend read more

This has been my favorite Restaurant for at least 30 years. I have never had a bad meal here. It's my go to for birthday lunches or just to relax next to the water. A couple of things to know, they are always busy. Make a reservation. They are not very kid friendly, no high chairs and I don't think they allow strollers. I actually am glad, tired of having my meal ruined by unruly kids at high end restaurants. There's a lot of "rules". They won't make certain dishes to go and they won't alter certain dishes. She was chewing gum and we had to wait until she finished doing things on her reservation screen. Then she sends us to outside desk where we had to wait again as no one was there... once we got seated things improved. Service was very efficient though felt rushed at times. Grilled artichokes were excellent, ribs very good but we have had better. We had to read on our reservation confirmation about the dress code and how important it was to make the place look good. Dear Mr. George Biel, I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding a recent dining experience at Houston's and what I can only describe as an anti-family policy concerning the refusal to provide high chairs for infants and toddlers. My family recently dined at one of your restaurants with our one-year-old child, and we were informed that no high chairs were available, after we already sat down, because the restaurant does not offer them. As a result, my spouse and I were forced to stand throughout the meal while taking turns holding our baby. We were unable to comfortably sit, eat, or enjoy the dining experience we paid for. What should have been a pleasant family meal became frustrating, exhausting, and frankly humiliating. This policy sends a clear message that families with young children are unwelcome at Houston's. Refusing to accommodate babies and toddlers with something as basic and universally standard as a high chair creates the appearance of both age discrimination and family discrimination. Virtually every full-service restaurant in America recognizes that accommodating families is part of basic hospitality and customer service. While restaurants certainly have the right to define their atmosphere and policies, deliberately excluding practical accommodations for infants, without transparent communication, effectively excludes parents and families altogether. That is not sophistication or hospitality -- it is exclusionary. I find it difficult to understand how a major restaurant group such as Hillstone believes this policy reflects positively on its brand or customer values. Families are customers too, and parents should not be treated as second-class guests simply because they have young children. I hope you will seriously reconsider this policy and recognize the negative message it sends to families. No parent should have to stand through an entire meal holding a child because a restaurant refuses to provide a basic accommodation that is standard across the industry. I would appreciate a response explaining the reasoning behind this policy and whether Hillstone Restaurant Group intends to revisit it. read more

Wow Houston's is such an amazing restaurant in Ft Lauderdale!! It's located right along the intracoastal waterway and it has a fantastic view of boats coming along the water. It also has free valet parking and affordable self parking as well. Once inside, there is a bar to your left and a whole array of different tables as well as additional seating outside along the intracoastal. It has a simple menu, but it is sufficient in terms of a large variety of different items and the drinks also look very good. We started off with the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer and it was fantastic. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it came out with fries and it was hot and delicious. The chicken sandwich was sliced into three individual slices which came with a variety of toppings that complemented it very well. The fries were crispy and delicious. I can't wait to go back to Houston again. The menu is affordable. The service is really good and the food is absolutely delicious. read more

A wonderful dining experience at Huston's on the Water in Pompano Beach. The spicy skinny margarita was a standout--perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat, refreshing, and not overly sweet. You can really tell it's made with quality ingredients, making it one of the best margaritas I've had in a while. The salmon appetizer was equally impressive. Beautifully prepared, fresh, and full of flavor, it was the perfect way to start the meal and set the tone for the rest of the experience. We've been going to Houston's for the past 10 years and have been nothing short of thrilled with the overall experience. Food, ambience, attention to detail, just a well oiled machine for so many years. Unfortunately, with most five star establishments, they have a tendency to slip. It pains me to say that the last three experiences at Houston's were nothing less than fair at best. What once was the benchmark of service and attention, has literally fallen off the page. Early Sunday evening, my wife and I went for dinner, were seated right away as we had a reservation, gave our drink order to the maître D, and proceeded to sit for 20 minutes without any attention whatsoever. As we were sitting, we couldn't help notice that meal after meal were coming out of the kitchen area and the servers had no idea who the meals belonged to. It was amazing as they were wandering around aimlessly, trying to figure out where the meals were supposed to be served. Finally, our drinks came and we had asked for some water, which is something we never had to ask for in the past. The water never came. Finally the waitress came over and we gave our appetizer order and that came without a hitch. Then we ordered our entrées and another drink and again 20 minutes later... The drinks finally arrived along with an order of french fries out of the blue 15 minutes later our entrées arrived. We both thought it was odd that we were served in order a french fries, which was supposed to come with one of the dinners that showed 15 minutes later. Now, I'm not one for pissing and moaning about small details, however, this has been the same kind of experience we've had the past three times visiting. We truly hope Houston's can get back to where they were because it was truly a very nice romantic experience going to Houston every time. So much so, that whenever we were served, I went out of my way to thank everyone involved for their exemplary service and overall attitudes. We had lunch with our daughter and grandson on the way to the airport. Great setting on the Intracoastal waterway where they have a huge patio. I ordered the Cheeseburger without the cheese. It is freshly ground chuck, served all the way on a dressed, house-made bun with lettuce, tomato, and chopped onion. Very good but messy.
