J. Mark's completely won me back, and then some. A couple of years ago, we started coming less and less because the quality had clearly slipped, BUT..... Fast forward to today, and it's a completely different story. Everything we ordered was outstanding. The steaks were massive, juicy, and cooked to perfection, easily some of the best I've had anywhere, and I've paid top dollar at high-end steakhouses. The Hawaiian ribeye, in particular, was incredible, tender & juicy. The wings were huge and packed with flavor, honestly some of the best wings I could ask for. They've also stepped up their starters. The new bread with honey butter is insanely good, and the avocado eggrolls with tamarind sauce are absolutely next level. I added on the crab cake which is of insane quality, big lump pieces, it's actually hard to find breading. Service was just as impressive, attentive, smooth, and genuinely welcoming. I even had the chance to speak with the manager, Dani, who explained they made a major shift away from distributors that were hurting their quality. They went back to basics, focused on what made them great in the first place, and it shows in every bite. This was one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time, across any cuisine. J. My mom and I went here for lunch and we sat in a booth in the bar area. It's so nice and cozy up there with the big beautiful TVs and a bar that is a piece of art on its own. Our server was Vinny and he was a delight! Very friendly and professional and honest about what to order. I've had lump crabcakes many times before, and they all seem to be the same, full of breading. He assured Me that the Lump meat crabcake at J Marks is superb. Well, he was right! It was the best crabcake I've ever had in my life and I am 67 years old. I have also been to Maryland many times. I will always order this every time I go from now on. The service was very slow! Our server wouldn't take our entree orders and dropped off appetizers and left super quick and was nowhere. We were already there for over 35-40 minutes and no entree orders placed. I couldn't imagine how long it would take to get an entree. Seems like she was too busy. Really was torn between 3 * or 4*, but I will give them the 4. I feel like this steakhouse was going for more upscale and it did have that vibe. The food was good but not amazing and the drink options were okay. I think what made me go 4 was because they were not busy and the wait staff, she really tried to make it great (the best) and they had small July 4th specials like a free Bam Bam shrimp with 2 drinks and steaks had 1 free topping, which she got mushrooms and I got onions. So I will say it was a good experience, not average. The mojitos were tasty and well done. They had bread that was okay, but not great, just kind of a soft wheat roll with butter. The Bam Bam was great and tasted amazing. The steaks, we had the 10 oz Sirloins and they presented well and were cooked correctly and still hot. came with two onion rings and one side. I ordered a chopped salad, calamari, and blackened chicken pasta for two other co-workers and me. My salad had the wrong dressing; the avocado was a little brown. The calamari was somewhat okay, and the blackened chicken pasta was a real disappointment. The amount of grease on the to-go container was too much. This restaurant is near my home. I've been there many times. I'll go back again. It's a good restaurant, it's not great. The beef is not quite tender, juicy or flavorful enough for me to consider it prime, it's not bad. It's not unusual to have food cooked a little over done, this may not be the fault of the chef, it might have just been sitting on warmer too long waiting for other food for your table, or the wait staff. Service is fine, but not exceptional, if your water glass is empty, it will be refilled, just wait a bit. It is a family owned establishment and one you should definitely try. The interior decor and ambiance bring you in and right from the start you get a good feeling it's going to be good. We went on a Monday night. Party of 2. No reservation. Hostess was pleasant told us it would be 10-15 minute wait. It was just under 10. We got a nice booth in the bar area. Our server was Connor. He came up to our table promptly Started with a glass of wine each which came quickly. We shared the soup (Tomato Basil) and salad (house) appetizer. I've found when it's shown as a combo the portions are smaller, but not in this case. It was a full bowl of delicious soup and the house salad was just as large and fresh and delicious. Based on the bartenders recommendation I went with Fierro Chicken entree. Absolutely full of flavor, super rich and delicious. Upon his return, I ordered the Orange Chicken with Basmati Rice. The dish arrived very hot, the way I like it, and was very good with a nice orange glaze taste.
