Stopped in at Howard's the other day on my way to work (not my normal spot, but I had an early appointment up the road). Despite a couple of older poor reviews, I found the place totally acceptable. When I got there there were a few people waiting for their orders, but I was greeted and the young lady took my order quickly. As the orders came out there was never any confusion and the guy was friendly...a couple of the people who came in after me were clearly regulars and didn't even need to order - the young lady jumped to get their regular orders. As I waited I wandered around the place and it was extremely clean, well-lit and welcoming. I will day they are a little more expensive than other places I go and their bagels are a little smaller than other places (less calories is ok when I'm getting a sandwich so I didn't mind), but overall it was a great sandwich and a good experience. read more

I've gone here a few times out of convenience, possibly 5 times. Two times, not once I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel, and twice they forgot to put bacon on the sandwich. How's that even possible??? One time I ordered a bagel with scallion cream cheese and bacon, the price was 8.50 for that. I can get a bacon egg and cheese mostly everywhere else for four dollars, or an entire Italian sub for less than that. read more

Large, Plump, Chewy and Delicious Bagels! They offer a variety of bagels to choose from maybe 12+. I have had the Everything, Sesame Seed, Poppy and Cinnamon Raisin. The bagels are $.95. I've been going here since they opened a few years ago and the consistency of the product is outstanding. The store is very clean and the salads and spreads behind the glass cabinets look fresh and inviting, a must in my opinion. I also like the fact that they open at 5:30 am. I am an early riser and sometimes I need to get to work real early. They also have a well supplied self serve coffee station. No complaints about the coffee. They have a small but nice seating area near the front window which happens to catch the morning sun. It's a nice and uplifting way to start your morning.The building is part of a very structurally pleasing strip mall with a huge private parking lot. My complaint and thus why no 5 stars, there is no separate line for those that wish to buy only bagels and those who want breakfast sandwiches, salads, Boars Head products pastries and cookies, etc. I think it creates confusion and unnecessary waiting lines. read more

Discovered this place driving to Boonton. Glad I did. The bagels are always fresh and made all day long. I used to get a bagel with butter but graduated to a Taylor ham egg and cheese on a sesame bagel. I've had the omelet with home fries and toast but it's so much (4 eggs). I e had a sandwich which was also very good. Their coffee is fresh and doesn't give me heartburn after. They have homemade danishes and their homemade crumb cake is the bomb. I've had the regular, the raspberry, the chocolate and apple caramel crumb cake. They are hidden in a mini mall with a bank, hair salon liquor store and Italian restaurant. It is family run and they are very friendly. They are very easy to miss. Keep an eye out for them and stop if you're in the area. They will not disappoint. I highly recommend. I was in the area meeting with some vendors for my wedding and wanted to pick up bagels to bring back to New Orleans with me. I decided to stop by Howard's given the great reviews and was not disappointed! I ordered an egg bagel with egg whites and cheese. The bagel was big, doughy and delicious! The eggs were cooked well and not watery. Most importantly, my cheese was melted-one of my biggest pet peeves is when the cheese on my egg sandwiches isn't melted (first world problems), but this was perfect. In addition to my sandwich, I ordered three dozen bagels to bring back for my fiancé's staff, and they were a hit! My fiancé actually ate two of them (not going to lie, I snuck one out of the bag later on and ate another one too). The service was also quick and friendly! The bagel was ok... the sanitary measures on the other hand, not so much. The gentleman that rang me up fixed bagels and sandwiches with no gloves on and didn't wash his hands between ringing people up (taking money) and preparing food. At one point I noticed he put on a glove but used the gloved hand to hold the plate while he scooped potato chips out of a bag with the ungloved hand. I won't be going back!! read more

I'll never get a breakfast sandwich or any food from there anymore. I ordered a Taylor Ham and cheese sandwich it had barely any meat on it and they charge $5 for it. They also charged me $4.50 for just a Taylor ham sandwich. They charge a different price every time I go in there. I've given this place a 2nd chance about 4 times now, thinking, maybe, just maybe they will get my order right. Unfortunately, the owner has hired different staff now a few times, none of which can understand English enough to know what you want on your sandwich. Ordered a grilled chicken pita today and the lady put chicken salad on the pita. I didn't know until I got back into my office. They've messed up sandwich orders now a good 4 times. The key problem (and this is not a racist remark) is that the employees do not fully understand English and this is a problem when you are taking down orders from people in the area who 98% of the time will be speaking English. If you don't understand what someone wants on their order, ask them to clarify it instead of just messing up the order every time. This place has decent food, but it's just a nuisance at this point. What a truly disappointing deli experience. I ordered a traditional prosciutto, mozzarella, roasted peppers sandwich, or as Howard's calls it, a "NY Rangers." Upon first view, the sandwich looked lovely, and if points were awarded on presentation alone, this sandwich could have made it to the Stanley Cup - alas, like it's namesake, it put on a good show but failed to deliver. The bread was big and fluffy and contributed greatly to the overall appearance, however after an initial bite failed to produce much of anything else, I opened up the sandwich to take a look inside. This is where the saga of true disappointment began, as my eyes happened upon a lonely piece of mozzarella, covering roughly 1/4 of the beautiful semolina cloud it called home. It was joined in bitter sorrow by a single roasted pepper piece, both of them resting uneasily and unevenly on sub-par "prosciutto." Of course, this just HAD to be the "bad" half of the sandwich. You know how it goes, there's always one side of the sandwich that just doesn't live up to it's other half. Boy, was I wrong - this was the GOOD half! I don't have metaphors left for just how terrible it was, so suffice it to say that your $9 are better spent elsewhere. read more
