    New hours

Just went for a repeat visit and it was closed. Just wanted to update everyone on the hours....they open at 4-8 during the week now. I did enjoy the lobster roll and my husband had the fish. We liked everything very much.

My sister and I stopped by this restaurant one day and it was so good!! Definitely get a lot of food for your money and it is delicious.

Fish Sandwich (with hardly any fish) from Howard's

What a shame! This has been a favorite place of ours for years, and it's been even better since it became Howard's. But tonight it was awful. First, the credit card machine wouldn't take any of the new credit cards that have a chip in them - the counter clerk said it's been charging people twice (she didn't offer to enter the card number manually). It was a cool night so we took our food home where we realized they shorted us one drink. The fish and chips and the fish sandwich had almost no fish at all (we actually first thought maybe there was supposed to be another container for just the fish since we couldn't find it in the container - but then found the scant amount of fish that probably weighed less than an ounce). It was abundantly clear that the manhattan clam chowder hadn't been cooked; the tomatoes were acidic and there were probably two pieces of clams. The crab-cakes were average - nothing to go out of your way for. We called to complain and they did offer to give us the "right" amount of fish if we drove back (no explanation of why they didn't give us what we paid for in the first place other than the Owner left for vacation the day before.) And they wouldn't credit us for the missing drink or the dinners without fish. We all have bad nights now and then - but there were so many things wrong that I won't be going back and warn those who do to check your order carefully while you're there.

White or Red its our favorite chowder. Clams cakes and fries are awesome and Howard's frozen lemonade is the best their is. RI best chowder shack is not by the ocean it's in the woods

Chowder was ok, I had the white chowder and I prefer it a little thicker than they make theirs. Clam cakes were very good. Doughboy was meh.

I've lived in the immediate area for about 3 years and have been wanting to stop in and try this…read moreplace. Unfortunately, it just slid under the radar for a while. I finally stopped in today after craving some seafood on my way back from running errands. I worked in restaurant kitchens all of my teen years, which partially consisted of deep frying all you can eat beer battered cod fish for crowded kitchens on the weekends. I'm a New Englander born and raised, I'm a foodie, blah blah so to put it lightly- I know my seafood. So now, the experience. This place went beyond expectations. Their price to portion ratio is absurd! My single fisherman platter came in 2 to-go boxes. There's no reason there should be this much seafood here! But I ain't complaining! Look at the photos, you'll see. The owner supplies the fresh seafood from Newport, RI and the massive sea scallops from New Bedford, MA. Though I have yet to try it their lobster roll and fry plate, it is around $25 which is pretty dang good for today's market. They said it had around a pound of lobster meat. Can't beat that. I bought 2 lobsters from Market Basket recently and it only made one sad lobster roll. Costs more too! Never mind the work and cleanup involved in doing it at home. Anyway, if you like traditional New England seafood, if you like a lot of food for your hard earned money, if you like quick and easy service, if you like locally supplied quality business practice, go here. It's truly a hidden gem. The staff is also nice and friendly! PS! It's cash only and no call ahead phone number! Keeping it simple.

I have to say it's a local watering hole but, it's quaint and comfortably laid out! The menu is Strong with a wonderful variety of dynamic offerings. I have to admit the Bean and Sausage and soup was spectacular( definitely a Fall/ Winter winner) the Drink: high end Single Malt Scotch was substantial pour( to say the least) and the Side Caesar salad was exceptional and ample size for what accompanied the dinner. That, was their 10 ounce tenderloin, perfect medium rare with a cognac cream sauce. Sides were, exceptional Rich mashed potatoes and the best way I've ever had brussels sprouts, which were mandolin sliced. That's my Review and Dana was an extremely pleasant and attentive to not only us but, to the all her other tables. Highly Recommended for a surprisingly Great Dinner and probably Lunch( awesome sounding sandwiches etc!) and... extremely reasonable for these Trying Times

Service was excellent but the FOOD was fantastic. I had the best Steak Sandwich I've ever had. Perfectly cooked. My wife had Mediterranean Pizza, she loved it. Prices were reasonable.

We had checked out the entire menu, as first timers, and made our choice, then waited another 5 min for her to decide to check in with us. Our food came out and looked and tasted very good. Chili omelet was delicious and homemade, not processed potatoes, for home fries. Johnny cakes were some of the best I've had. Waitress did not offer to refill our coffees, and made a running pass to say everything ok? Didn't really slow down to hear our answer. Finally after we are clearly finished she brings the pot of coffee, ummm "no thanks, check please"?

Difficult to figure out what door to go in. Large parking lot that filled up on trivia night. Drinks are cheap but my server stated she was only 18 and wasn't sure what beers or hard ciders they had, had no idea what an Angry Orchard was when I requested one. My friend's sangria glass was filled 70% with ice and she did not recommend it. I do like that they serve breakfast all day and breakfast item pricing was low and reasonable. Some apps and seafood dishes had a higher price than the atmosphere dictated. The dining area smelled like urine and looked outdated. I'd come for a cheap glass of beer and maybe a late day breakfast, but not much else.

The building is smallish and located on a corner. A small parking lot is located on busy Hartford Ave, with a building entrance on that side that leads into the first of two bar areas. A larger parking area is located around the corner on Bishop Hill Road. Another two entrances, into the 2nd bar area are accessible from this lot. Also, a huge outdoor seating area, under a tent runs along one side of this parking area. So they have lots of room to enjoy a summer evening outside. We arrived late afternoon between meal times. The bar was full except for two seats. Other than the bar, the tables and booths in this area were empty (the other bar was not staffed at this hour). We like sitting at the bar and talking with the regulars. We learn so much about the area this way. Even in our own state! The majority of our bar-mates and the bartender were very friendly and we had some lively conversations. The building itself is old and much of the original dark wood remains along with a big fireplace. The ladies room is right at the end of the bar, is small and older and everything works. Full bar, beer on tap or in cans and wine. They have a nice bar-food menu. I chose sweet potato fries as my side while my dining companion chose regular fries. Both were good, as were our sandwiches (au jus and Big bird) Good quality and tasty. The booths began to fill as we were leaving and the barkeep was also their waitress, so she has a big area to cover. The regulars are very well known to each other and the staff so if you sit at the bar you may feel like the 'odd man out'. We enjoyed our visit and plan to return to try some of their other food offerings.
