    New hours

Just went for a repeat visit and it was closed. Just wanted to update everyone on the hours....they open at 4-8 during the week now. I did enjoy the lobster roll and my husband had the fish. We liked everything very much.

My sister and I stopped by this restaurant one day and it was so good!! Definitely get a lot of food for your money and it is delicious.

Fish Sandwich (with hardly any fish) from Howard's

What a shame! This has been a favorite place of ours for years, and it's been even better since it became Howard's. But tonight it was awful. First, the credit card machine wouldn't take any of the new credit cards that have a chip in them - the counter clerk said it's been charging people twice (she didn't offer to enter the card number manually). It was a cool night so we took our food home where we realized they shorted us one drink. The fish and chips and the fish sandwich had almost no fish at all (we actually first thought maybe there was supposed to be another container for just the fish since we couldn't find it in the container - but then found the scant amount of fish that probably weighed less than an ounce). It was abundantly clear that the manhattan clam chowder hadn't been cooked; the tomatoes were acidic and there were probably two pieces of clams. The crab-cakes were average - nothing to go out of your way for. We called to complain and they did offer to give us the "right" amount of fish if we drove back (no explanation of why they didn't give us what we paid for in the first place other than the Owner left for vacation the day before.) And they wouldn't credit us for the missing drink or the dinners without fish. We all have bad nights now and then - but there were so many things wrong that I won't be going back and warn those who do to check your order carefully while you're there.

White or Red its our favorite chowder. Clams cakes and fries are awesome and Howard's frozen lemonade is the best their is. RI best chowder shack is not by the ocean it's in the woods

We had checked out the entire menu, as first timers, and made our choice, then waited another 5 min for her to decide to check in with us. Our food came out and looked and tasted very good. Chili omelet was delicious and homemade, not processed potatoes, for home fries. Johnny cakes were some of the best I've had. Waitress did not offer to refill our coffees, and made a running pass to say everything ok? Didn't really slow down to hear our answer. Difficult to figure out what door to go in. Large parking lot that filled up on trivia night. Drinks are cheap but my server stated she was only 18 and wasn't sure what beers or hard ciders they had, had no idea what an Angry Orchard was when I requested one. My friend's sangria glass was filled 70% with ice and she did not recommend it. I do like that they serve breakfast all day and breakfast item pricing was low and reasonable. Some apps and seafood dishes had a higher price than the atmosphere dictated. The dining area smelled like urine and looked outdated. I'd come for a cheap glass of beer and maybe a late day breakfast, but not much else.

I finally stopped in today after craving some seafood on my way back from running errands. I worked in restaurant kitchens all of my teen years, which partially consisted of deep frying all you can eat beer battered cod fish for crowded kitchens on the weekends. I'm a New Englander born and raised, I'm a foodie, blah blah so to put it lightly- I know my seafood. So now, the experience. This place went beyond expectations. Their price to portion ratio is absurd! My single fisherman platter came in 2 to-go boxes. There's no reason there should be this much seafood here! But I ain't complaining! Look at the photos, you'll see. The owner supplies the fresh seafood from Newport, RI and the massive sea scallops from New Bedford, MA. Though I have yet to try it their lobster roll and fry plate, it is around $25 which is pretty dang good for today's market. They said it had around a pound of lobster meat. Can't beat that. I bought 2 lobsters from Market Basket recently and it only made one sad lobster roll. Costs more too! Never mind the work and cleanup involved in doing it at home. Anyway, if you like traditional New England seafood, if you like a lot of food for your hard earned money, if you like quick and easy service, if you like locally supplied quality business practice, go here. It's truly a hidden gem. The staff is also nice and friendly! PS! It's cash only and no call ahead phone number! Keeping it simple.

We stopped in over the weekend & had the pleasure of having Audra take care of us. I went with my usual omelette while he had an egg sandwich, both super tasty. The surprise stars? The baked beans & baked apple side The apples tasted just like warm apple pie filling straight from grandma's kitchen time machine. Needless to say we left full, happy, & carrying leftovers home like little victory trophies They serve breakfast all day everyday along with lunch & dinner plus some great specials that make your wallet breathe easy. also don't forget to try the grape nut pudding its to die for! #RhodeIslandEats #ProvidenceFoodie #BreakfastLovers #DinerFood #FoodieFinds

We have been here several times & it feels like the kind of diner you grew up going to: cozy seating, familiar faces & that unmistakable "welcome home" energy the moment you walk through the door. For the #BestBreakfastSandwich, I ordered the grilled English muffin with sausage, American cheese & egg. Hubby selected the Western (ham, onions, peppers & cheese). We couldn't not order the absolutely delicious & HUGE side helping of home fries. The breakfast sandwiches were hearty & satisfying. You can tell they rely on fresh, local ingredients where they can because the flavors pop in that unpretentious, "this is real food" kind of way. The home fries had this gorgeous grilled crisp on top that made it impossible not to eat every single bite! The service was friendly & warm, where everyone seems happy to be there & they treat you like a regular, even if it is your first visit. My favorite part: when our lovely server came over with a to-go coffee container & said that it was part of the coffee service. Hubby was so happy! Uncle Mike's Diner is a solid stop when you want quick, tasty comfort food without pretense. It checks all the diner boxes with hearty plates, warm service & an atmosphere that makes you slow down just a little. NOM NOM NOM #YUM

I've seen on social media that people complained about the new location having mainly street parking - we both found parking easily on the street - quit yer b*tchin' people lol. Besides I believe they have a lot behind the restaurant that we didn't have to use but it's there if needed. We were the only ones there when we first walked in but more patrons came in as the night went on. Made our way to the bar and orders were flowing - one warning if you're sitting at the bar, it is an open kitchen so there will be alot of aromas flowing through and may get on your clothes but really it'll just remind you of how good the food was. Also, the barstools are not the most comfy - metal stools with no backing so after 2.5 hours, we were feeling a bit achy. We ordered way more than we should've but everything just looked so good! We got the croquettes (our absolute fave), the cauliflower, the pizza du jour (I think it had spinach, pepperoni, ricotta and garlic) and for entrees we got the fish tacos and the Orecchiette. Not one complaint - everything was divine. Croquettes were melty, smoky little nuggets of heaven and our favorites bites of the night. The pizza had a great balance of flavors and the crust was thin and crispy. We were so full but had a few bites of the fish tacos and pasta - the fish was cooked to perfection and the aioli it came with topped it perfectly. Pasta was different - had a scallion cream sauce that was a nice change up from your typical Alfredo. Don't sleep on this place - the street is busy being on a main road but so well worth the visit, I didn't catch our bartender's name but he and a few other servers were super personable and friendly - gave us just enough time in between meals and personal space to not hover. Absolutely will return!

The server mentioned that it's pretty typical for them in the summer. The decor inside was nice and clean but unfortunately the cigar smell from the place next door was nauseating. I've read they are moving eventually and I couldn't be happier for them since it's not their fault the restaurant smells like an ashtray. The food was fresh, cooked perfectly, served hot and we couldn't really ask for more. We had burgers and steak sandos and both were top notch. The steak had a really nice flavor from what I assume was a marinade and the burgers were huge. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed the fries. I'm usually not a big fan of fries and these were some of the better ones I've had. You couldn't taste the oil, they were crispy and lightly salted. I'm truly looking forward to going back, hopefully once they're in their new place. I can't wait to try some of their full entrees although I will steal some of the kids' fries!!
