I've been to L.A. multiple times since then but never had the chance to try Howlin' Ray's because the lines are always long. Now, they have one in Vegas and I no longer have an excuse not to go. There was a line but with only 4 other people. I checked out the menu before committing to standing in line. You have 3 chicken options: sando, wings or tenders. Spicy level options: country (no heat), mild, medium, hot, x-hot or howlin. Medium Sando: I'm not a fan of spicy food. Medium seemed like a safe option. It still had a kick to it. The chicken has a crunchy breading while maintaining its juiciness. The pickles tone down the heat. 4/5 Hot Sando: This was hard and too hot to handle even for spicy food lovers. This will make you feel hot and bothered and sweaty all over. It burns your mouth! I literally had to take it home, wash the breading off and pop in the air fryer to make it edible. Smack your mama chicken! I was wrong about this spot, I walked by it many times thinking it would be a very average hot chicken that you see at any mall. Boy was I wrong. The wings were so frickin good! The flavor and seasoning was perfect, saltiness was on point, the crispness was light and airy. The chicken was so fresh and hot, I could barely eat it. Those fries were some of the best I've had in a long time. Crispy, tender on the inside, nice season. The Comeback sauce was honestly the best on I've ever tasted. I have been eager to try this place because of the glowing reviews. I was a bit disappointed because it was not freshly cooked. There was a line but it went by quickly. The cashier was very knowledgeable and told us that they are spicier/hotter than Dave's hot chicken so we adjusted our spice level accordingly. The service was very quick but that also implies that the food was already made and was probably sitting out. The food temperature was lukewarm and it did not seem as fresh as what you would get Dave's Hot Chicken ( there weren't different layers of flavors either). That being said, the chicken was the star and it was clear. It was definitely more spicier than most chicken sandwich places, in a good way and the chicken tasted premium. As an east-coaster who is quite limited to a variety of regional restaurants, I was pleasantly surprised to find Howlin' Ray's located in the Via Via Food Hall in the Venetian! I've watched enough content creators to know what to get -- and most importantly "how" to get. NOTE: Prices will be higher as this is Vegas after all. For my meal I ordered several items: the Sando which came in at a whopping $17. I accompanied it with an order of shake fries ($6), a solo wing ($5), comeback sauce ($1) and a surprisingly lovely peach tea ($6). The total with tax came to about $37 and some change. (Oh, Vegas...) Spice level: Everything in medium. I have to say -- I enjoyed the entire meal. Of all the things I ordered, the sando was the clear winner. I was surprised how much I enjoyed all the flavors working together -- coleslaw, pickles, comeback sauce and the medium spice. The filet was about the size of a Popeyes chicken sandwich filet, nothing crazy. The wing was a bit disappointing. It had the same spice, but was cool to the touch. For a hot chicken spot, I was expecting the hot chicken to outshine the sandwich-- that was NOT the case. For this, I deduct one star. Warning: Hot is actually pretty dangerous on an empty stomach; it'll hurt once it settles even if you think you can handle it with your mouth. I opted for just 1 hot tender (8/10 spice) and 2 medium (5/10 spice). Perfect balance for myself who tends to eat spice for every meal. Line was about 10 person long, but went by after 15 min. The line isn't as bad as it is in LA. It goes by pretty quickly. I think for as much as they charge in general, the sauces should be free unless people are asking for hella sauces. The chicken is juicy I'll give them that. The seasoning is good if you're a seasoning wing type of person versus a sticky sauce type. That's where the divide is. The meat is really moist and juicy and the thin coating, both mild and medium, were terrific. The fries were nice and crunchy on the outside and tender in the inside. The counter staff were friendly and helpful as I explained that it was our first time. The sauce doesn't do much for me, but it does have flavor. I've been to chicken places where the sauce is largely mayonnaise. This is better than that. I prefer Raisin' Canes sauce. It's in a food court near the casino. The branding is really endearing and I love that their french fry bag says "Have a hot day". I will say the french fries were definitely some of the crispiest and best seasoned fries I've ever had. The chicken tenders were spicy despite having chosen mild and very crispy on the outside, but moist on the inside. Honestly, there isn't much competition on my end especially coming from Canada where true Southern flavours don't have much presence. This place sits in a the food court corner on the casino floor. I ordered a Sando and an order of their fries. The wait felt a bit long for a chicken sandwich, felt around ~20 minutes. But the wait was completely worth it. This has to be the absolute best chicken sandwich I've ever had in my life, it puts all the others I've had to shame. Very generous size of fried chicken, cooked to perfection and drizzled with their sauce, covered in coleslaw and pickles. Every bite was amazing. The wrapper around the burger was also tightly wrapped, so whenever I took a bite the contents would never spill out the other side. I remember way back when I used to eat at Howlin' Ray's in Chinatown in Downtown Los Angeles. There was always a line wrapped around the plaza. It was like a line at Disneyland. It was absolutely well-worth the wait though. I happened to be staying at The Venetian and after I checked in and headed to my room, I looked at their food court and saw Howlin' Ray's in big letters. It caught my attention right away. I was so thrilled and knew I had to add it to my list of places to eat while I was in Vegas. We went right after we checked out of our hotel. Let me tell you... it was just as good and juicy as I remembered. Their sandwich is a standout for a reason. It's full of flavor, so moist, and had just a brush of heat. I've been to the OG one (LA Chinatown). Quality is comparable, without the long waits. Pros: line was 5 min long, food took another 5 minutes. Located inside Venetian in the food courts. Cons: 15-40% upcharge compared to the equivalent menu at this exact moment in LA Chinatown. With food quality comparable to LA, you are paying a bit of premium for convenience and time savings. A bit hard to find (which is partly why the lines are shorter) We got the sando and a tender, with a side of comeback sauce. Already $23, which is about 1.5x what I remembered paying (inflation adjusted for), and the portions are smaller, but I don't need to wait 2 hrs physically in line. I value my time more than saving $10 for 2 hrs line, so it evens out. I love how juicy the chicken is, and also the flavor - I have been to a bunch of hot chicken places in Nashville, and Howlin' Rays does it better still. read more

It took me 10 plus years to finally get to eat at Howlin Ray's cuz I never was able to wait in line in Los Angeles to try it. Love that the line was 5 minutes long. The menu is simple and I was so scared of burning my tongue, I ordered the chicken strips in mild. It barely had any flavor...I think they might have messed it up. The obvious winner was the medium heat chicken. It was seasoned PERFECTLY without being hot at all. Omg I've been wanting to try Howlin Rays for the longest time and I finally got to try! This my favorite meal in Vegas literally. The chicken was plump, and expertly seasoned with the dusting and sauce. The pickles & white bread contrasted nicely with the savory & spicy chicken. Even though I got the hot level and it was one of the biggest regrets of my entire life because it was so hot that you could take two bites almost put me in the ICU even though two bites. Located in the food court for the Venetian casino floor area, it's easy to find and there's usually plenty of seating. We've gotten different sauces and settled on the comeback sauce. We've also ordered between us the tenders, wings, as well as the sando. All of it is good, bang for buck would probably be the tenders for sheer amount. I liked the wings since they were nice and crispy, and the seasoning was on point. We always get fries too. They also come out piping hot with a generous amount of seasoning. We also got the banana pudding this time around at the end. Not too sweet which was great. The vanilla wafers an interesting touch to break up into bites and add some texture. Located inside the casino, it wasn't a location I was expecting. However, the food makes up for it. We got the wings and banana pudding and it was all great. Almost no line when I went around 2 PM! The employees were sweet and friendly. I did not like the consistent cigarette smell (from the casino) but I know that's outside of Howlins hands.
