Gulab Jamun - one of the best I have had.
    Ruth K.

The food here was a lovely surprise. Next time I might ratchet down the spice level a tiny bit, but some great flavors were coming out of the kitchen and we each ordered a mango lassi to drink which always cools heat. Our favorite was the Lamb Pasanda which had a beautifully flavored sauce, and the Kadai Lamb Curry was also great. I do think that their Kulchas are some of the best I've had in a long while and I can't say whether we preferred the onion or paneer cheese version better. When it came to dessert they were out of the Rasamalai and so we tried the Gulab Jamun. Bumped up the rating because waiter Dave was very patient answering all of our questions and he talked us into the Gulab Jamun and I'm glad he did because it was the best version I've ever had. Overall, this place more than met our expectations and I'm glad to have found another Halal place because the meats are so much better! (I've asked Yelp to update their hours to show open on Mondays as hours reflected the previous ownership.)

Medium sized restaurant but very dead. Didn't seem like they get a lot of foot traffic. Service was good. He checked on us often but I didn't like the fact that as soon as we sat down, he placed water bottles down for everyone and so we thought that maybe their tap water machine was broken. Come to find out at the end, they charged us $6.45 for 5 bottles of water when we didn't even ask for water yet. It took awhile for the food to come out which I didn't understand because we were the only guest there. We ordered: Chicken vindaloo - lots of gravy and not much chicken. Spicy gravy and flavorful. Butter chicken - not the best butter chicken I've had but it is a bit spicy so don't give it to your kids unless they can handle spice. Chicken biryani - had 2 chicken drums at the bottom but served in a very inefficient bowl that spills rice everywhere when you're just trying to scoop some rice. It was a bit bland. Gobi Manchurian - fried cauliflower covered in like a slightly sweet and spicy sauce. I didn't like that the cauliflower wasn't crispy at all. Very soggy. Sauce is overwhelming.

After craving some food from a long day at work, I was lucky to stumble upon Howzatt and introduced to such delicious recommendations by a staff member(thank you Nushava, not good with names i'm sorry if I incorrectly spelled). The food is cooked perfectly, most especially the butter chicken's sauce and appetizer I was recommended the mango drink tasted like mango goodness with yogurt- so perfect!! I'm not good with spicy food and I was shown a yummy butter chicken that was too good, a little kick of spice, I just keep eating my fill I highly recommend this place if you're craving a delectable spread of flavor! Shout out to the cooks and staff for a wonderful experience- so happy to find a new local place to munch!

I had been wanting to try this place for a long time and decided to give it a shot for lunch. They do not have Sunday lunch buffet so we ended up ordering quite a few things. We had : goat korma Chicken butter masala Vegetable biryani Vegetable samosa (not the best- a bit too dry) Carrot halwa Butter naan The food was very delicious and well seasoned, however the goat was mostly bones and the butter chicken only had a few pieces of actual chicken. The only reason why I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the bones and lack of chicken given. We finished off with saffron kheer that was very tasty. I would probably come back again as the food was really great!

    The Chili Chicken (epic)
    Abir C.

The restaurant is based on the theme of cricket (India's most popular sport). The reviews were rather good and so I tried it out. The service was good and it felt rather nice to order in Hindi. I got the chilli chicken, the badami chicken korma, and the goat biryani. The chilli chicken was fantastic, although it wasn't strictly chilli chicken. It tasted like a cross between a chicken manchurian and chilli chicken. However, it was really really good. In fact, the best I have had in Houston (and I have tried a LOT of Indian restaurants). I would like to warn you that if you cannot tolerate heat, then don't get this. I am all for heat, so this was amazing for me. The badami chicken korma was also really good. It tasted like something that I would get in India. The gravy was rich and creamy, with an underlying nutty flavor. The chicken was a little chewy, but other than that, it was great. Now, let me give you some preface on biryani. Being an avid biryani fanboy, I have tried and tasted biryani in over 20-30 restaurants in various cities of the US. There are 2 places that have nailed it so far (Himalaya in Houston (Pakistani style biryani) and Aladin Sweets & Market in Los Angeles (Bangladeshi style kachhi biryani that tastes similar to Kolkata style biryani)). When I got the biryani here, I was hoping that it would blow my socks off (because no other restaurant in Houston has, other than Himalaya). However, I was disappointed, as usual. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. The meat tasted average, and the rice wasn't fragrant or aromatic or flavorful as a biryani should be. However, it was rather hot. So, I would conclude this review by saying that if you're in Houston and want to have a great chilli chicken or a great chicken korma, definitely give this place a try. I won't recommend the biryani. There's no one better than Himalaya at that.

So good that I accidentally started eating before I took this photo!

This is my go to Indian place in NW Houston. Their butter chicken is an A+. They also know their menu very well and can make food recommendations when you want to try new things. The service is usually good here and the best time to come is on Sunday afternoons when there are less people.

The ambience is minimalist, clean bright, "food hall", but in a good way. Not a dark cozy date night place, but more bright, family restaurant decor. The menu is pretty extensive. While waiting for our food we were given cucumbers and carrots with a dill yogurt type sauce. If I knew how spicy the food was going to be, I wouldn't have enjoyed them before my entree. I specifically asked what the mild dishes were but my food was still inedible. Unfortunately I cannot tolerate anything spicy. And apparently they do not accommodate heat levels so you get what you get. Literally everything we were served except the naan was way too spicy for me. Even my son who enjoys spicy food found the "medium" was very spicy. Food aside, the service was not very hospitable. This place runs like a well oiled machine. The service is fast but don't expect any niceties. When we were asked how we liked the food, my son mentioned the heat level and was basically reprimanded on how "next time he should listen to the server". With it being one of the top restaurants, this experience has left me scratching my head. Overall, I'm glad I was able to finally give this place a shot but for me, it doesn't live up to the hype.

There's a moment that happens in every desi person's life in Houston when you stop apologizing for…read moreour food and start evangelizing it. The biryani isn't "kind of like jambalaya," the kababs aren't "Pakistani street meat," and the chai isn't "spiced tea." It's just biryani, kabab, and chai, full stop, and if you're lucky enough to live in this city, you have access to two operators doing it at a level that demands attention: Chef Saadat and BBQ Tonite Katy. If you grew up watching ARY Zauq or Hum, you already know the man. Saadat Siddiqi is a MasterChef Pakistan judge, hosted travel-and-food programming across Pakistan's biggest networks, and built a global following while half the rest of us were still figuring out how much haldi goes into daal. Now he's based stateside, and Houston has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of that move. What separates Chef Saadat from your khala who "could open a restaurant if she wanted to" (every desi family has this woman, may God protect her) is that Saadat actually trained. Australia, formal kitchen work, years of broadcast cooking that demanded consistency. So when he runs a pop-up or a curated dinner in Houston, you taste the difference immediately. The masalas are layered instead of blunt. Proteins hit the right doneness without going leathery. The chaat isn't drowned in chutney; it's balanced. It's Pakistani food cooked with the kind of precision that French and Italian kitchens take for granted, and it's a revelation when you realize our cuisine has always deserved that treatment, just nobody was bothering. The man is also genuinely warm. Walk up to him at an event and he'll talk you through what he made, why he made it, and where the recipe came from. That's not nothing. Most celebrity chefs would rather you take a selfie and move along. Tucked into Park Row in Katy, BBQ Tonite has quietly become one of the most reliable Pakistani spots on the west side of greater Houston. The Katy location runs on the same DNA as the broader BBQ Tonite family; charcoal grilling, generous portions, halal across the board, weekend buffet ambitions, but it caters specifically to the Katy desi diaspora that has exploded in the last decade. You're as likely to hear Urdu and Punjabi at the next table as English, and that's the highest compliment I can pay a Pakistani restaurant in America. The mixed grill is the move. Bihari kabab with that papaya-tenderized melt, beef seekh that holds together without being a hockey puck, chicken boti with proper char and yogurt-marinade tenderness, and a tandoori chicken that's actually red because of masala and not food coloring (the cardinal sin of lesser kitchens). Pair it with garlic naan straight out of the tandoor and a side of green chutney, and you're operating at peak efficiency on a dollar-per-flavor basis. The karahi game is strong. The goat karahi has the proper tomato-and-ginger backbone, and they don't drown it the way Americanized desi spots do when they get scared of their own cuisine. Order it with a roghni naan if you're feeling indulgent. Houston's Pakistani food scene has always been good. With Chef Saadat doing his thing and BBQ Tonite holding it down in Katy, it's now genuinely great. Bring out-of-towners. Bring skeptics. Bring the colleague who only knows "tikka masala." Both of these will do the convincing for you.
