Based on a very positive Yelp review, decided to have lunch today at Howzatt on Grant Road. It's a casual place, modestly decorated but very clean and comfortable. The owner, Raj, was very personable, kind and attentive. We ordered Chicken Samosas as appetizers, garlic and butter naan, Palek Paneer and Chicken Tikka. Everything was on point and super fresh. Raj brought out two sauces to try - a tamarind sauce and a spicy garlic sauce - both delicious. The naan was seriously the very best I've had anywhere. We can't wait to go back. Finally a great, local Indian restaurant in my neighborhood! My wife found out about this restaurant from some guys who had just picked it up for dinner. The last couple of Indian places we tried in my area had all closed down in the last year or two and I had no idea that one had opened within walking distance of my house. I tried the butter chicken marsala with rice and naan. Not only was it great, but it was even better than any of the local places that are no longer around. I don't have to drive across town to Hillcroft, Harwin, or Westheimer to get good Indian food now. It was so amazingly good that we ordered it the next day as well. Honestly, I'm having to stop myself from ordering there every day because I could easily live on nothing but this food. I understand that they are going to offer a buffet sometime soon, but I'm not sure about the exact plans regarding that. read more

First time coming to this restaurant and I'm torn between the food and service I received. We were the first customers of the day and the only ones there during lunch service. First thing we noticed is that the TV they had on was extremely loud. Maybe not annoying if your in a bar but in a restaurant with no one else in the eating area, it was annoying. Next, we order Water for our table and upon tasting it, it tasted like there was sugar or some sort of sweetener in it. I told the waitress/hostess and she didn't either believe me or really care to change out the water. Instead she offered bottled water which she then came back after 2 minutes and said that they had to go get it from somewhere. Now the food. We ordered Butter Chicken Masala, Chicken Tikka Leg, and a Garlic Naan and a Butter Naan. We were told that the Chicken Tikka Leg would take 20-25 minutes. We said we would wait but to bring the other food items as they were ready. We ended up waiting 15-20 minutes for the Butter Chicken and Plain Naan. After about 8 minutes, she then brought out the butter Naan. I asked her where the Garlic Naan was that I ordered and she said I order 1 Plain and 1 Butter. The Butter Chicken was really good and the Naans were extremely fresh and very tasty. The Chicken Tikka Leg came out and that was also very good. Hence why we gave it 4 stars. However, the Masala Chai that my wife ordered and the Plain Chai that I ordered, which they didn't have???, was sub-standard. The poor service and the drink situation are what turned me off. I would probably try this place again but not immediately. read more

This place is awesome! I'm so happy we are starting to get some decent Asian foods on this side of town. Howzatt definitely does not disappoint. The chicken and vegetable samosas are both really good. She sprinkles some kind of spice salt in top that I just want to eat with a spoon. The green sauce that comes with them is garlicky and super fresh tasting. I've had the Butter Chicken Masala and the Chicken Kadai. Both were so flavorful. The owners are actually from Bangladesh and I don't know if that makes a difference in the types of spices used, but the food here is a lot more flavorful and spiced than traditional Indian food. If you're in the Willowbrook area, definitely check them out. Totally worth it. read more

My husband and I have been on the lookout for a flavorful Indian restaurant close to 249 and Spring Cypress since Indian Wok closed down. Howzatt is awesome. We started with veggie samosas, seriously some of the best that I have ever tried.....and hands down, the best mint chutney accompanied them. For our main, we ordered the chicken Briyani and butter chicken. Both were seasoned well and good quality chicken was used. Also, we were able to select our degree of hotness. Came for lunch, found a seat and order was taken promptly. They bring a carafe of water and provided the WiFi password when asked. Nice, quiet and spacious with a cricket game on the Telly. The tables and area are nice and clean too. I had a veggie samosa and butter chicken with rice, all was fantastic. The green sauce that comes with the samosa is spicy but delicious! We went for lunch today and despite the restaurant being completely empty, the service was extremely slow (something unacceptable for lunch time). We ordered chicken samosa, veggie spring roll as appetizers which were pretty decent. For main course we ordered daal fry, chicken and lamb biryani. The meat in the biryani def needs to be imrpoved. The meat in the chicken biryani was all brownish (seemed stale). The taste of the food was definitely good but server was least bothered to check on water and took forever to bring anything requested. Another thing that really upset us was the fact that during business hours he was calling vendors to ask why his neon lights werent working etc despite the fact that we were waiting on him! Came for lunch. Had a thali.The food was ok.nothing out of the world. I wanted to give 2.5 starrs but they served the food in foam plates. Not many varieties in thali. I came here for lunch on Sunday afternoon. The restaurant is not your typical restaurant style service. You choose your own seat and then order at the front when you're ready. We found that extremely odd since in most other Indian restaurants, the waitress comes to your table. Although the veg and non veg combos are on the menus, they are not available on weekends (it seems). After getting weirdly settled in we started with the vegetable samosas. The samosas were good and tasty. We also had water for drinks but becareful if you order water, they will definitely upcharge you since their only available option is bottled water.. I had the mixed veg curry for the entree with naan and another garlic naan on the side because they do not allow substitutions. The best part of the entree was the garlic naan; it was spectacular. We asked for the spicy level on the entrees to be super spicy but it was anything but spicy. The mixed veg curry was good but not spicy as I had politely asked for. Service was okay. The hostess seemed rude and inconsiderate when we were placing out order. I give this place 2 stars for the naan mostly. The food was definitely over priced for the portions and quality. read more

A place that allows you to BYOB is a win in my opinion. Tried the grilled fish and spring rolls when I was there last week, which were great, will update once I try other items on the menu. The cricket theme decor is fun since I am a huge fan of the sport. Hopefully, they will have match viewing specials. Loved it. Really delicious masala butter chicken, paneer tika masala, and samosa's. If you choose the spiciest option, it is very spicy but not enough to make it unenjoyable. The owner was very friendly. A little room for improvement: the waitress unfortunately seemed a little inexperienced - didn't give a bad experience though - and I didn't especially love the appetizer on paper plates either. Excellent little restaurant on this side of town. The prices are really reasonable. My husband and I got several appetizers and two meals for dinner. We also tried the rice pudding dessert. First visit today at lunch and glad I finally stopped in. Howzatt is in a little non-descript center and has been open approximately 6 months. Raj ( I believe he is the owner ) was very nice and very accommodating. The inside is very clean, wish they would have some music playing though. The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Entrees are $6 - $14 with most in the $9 range.They do have a couple of choices for a lunch special a Vegetarian and a Non Vegetarian that comes with 2 curries and naan or basmati rice. I chose to order a chicken dish, Chicken Kadai which comes with rice or fresh Naan. I ordered w/rice and an order of Naan. The naan was perfect, nice crunchy exterior with a warm soft interior. I also ordered a chicken samosa. The chicken samosa was large and the filling was intensely flavored one of the best I have had. It was served with a green chutney that was THE BEST I've ever had. It was thicker than most, very spicy packed with serrano, mint and cilantro flavor Incredible!! The chicken kadai was really good also, not as spicy as I wanted but that is an easy fix. I've found that Indian restaurants tend to tone down the spice some even when you ask for Indian spicy. It had a deep rich flavor of masala, tomato, ginger and garlic and the chicken was amazingly tender and cut into pieces with the bone in. This place is definitely worth a visit. My understanding is they will be adding a lunch buffet option in the weeks to come. read more
