Sat down, ordered, coffee came immediately. Beignet's came in less than 5 minutes. Ate 1-1/2 beignets and decided to order the CFS. It came as soon as I finished the last beignet. Absolutely no complaints about Hux. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I was in a poor mood when I drove from Oakland to The Workshop on a Saturday morning and they said that they stopped making beignets at 10:30am. I thanked them and walked out. I looked up beignets on Yelp and found Hux about 5 minutes away. Showed up at Hux, wanting to hate the place. It's in a strip mall, several miles from home and I was solo. Everybody on the team at Hux turned my day around. I left there feeling stuffed and very satisfied. Also, not much lighter in the wallet. The service was terribly slow (we were a group of 8 though). The beignets were not true beignets... they were dense balls of dough put on different canned pie filling. For kids good since they don't know any better and they're sugar loaded. I had the Cajun eggs Benedict. It was eh- okay. Instead of sourdough toast they had the eggs on a piece of Texas toast that was terribly soapy and the green onions on top of the eggs weren't chopped nicely with half cut up pieces still connected. I've been coming to Huckleberry's for a while now and the food quality has progressively gone down but recently it really took a turn for the worst. Came in for breakfast on Sunday (1-6-19) and ordered a Cajun Benedict with the red potatoes. Not only were the potatoes undercooked but they didn't have the onions and bell peppers on top that I ordered. The poached eggs were way over done so I sent them back. A few mins later I get a small bowl of 2 poached eggs that are just as hard! The only reason this isn't a 1 star review is because the waitress did everything she could to make the situation better. This might be the worst breakfast place on the planet. Supposed to be Cajun/creole but it's just disgustingly heavy yet somehow flavorless options cooked poorly. This was my second trip and we were a group of five- no one's food was anything even resembling good. Even something as simple as scrambled eggs were cold and hardening after having been left out. The fruit was way overripe to the point of being inedible. We asked for salsa to help save the eggs- it tasted like tostitos. Tried Huckleberry's for the first time hoping for a New Orleans style experience. While the hospitality and service did not disappoint, the food was another story. For starters, the beignets, typically soft and pillowy bites of yum, were very heavy balls of fried dough. Not at all what we expected. For the main course, I ordered the Big Easy Eggs Benedict. The sauce was flavorful. However, the chicken sausage was way too salty and the eggs were way too watery. The Benedict was served with fried potatoes that appeared to be cooked to perfection. Unfortunately, that was not the case! Expecting to bite into a nice crispy fried potato, what I experienced was a texture that seemed as though they had been precooked and reheated. And the flavor....OMG! All that I could taste was the flavor of a not so clean grill. Very disappointing! So while the service was outstanding, the food was a major disappointment. Chicken with the chicken and waffle was under-seasoned and bland, almost flavorless, and the waffles were underdone and flabby. Waffles should be crispy and chicken should be flavorful, especially from a restaurant that calls itself southern or cajun. We tried the beignet, also, which were a little atypical (not as pillowy as I expect a beignet to be) and just okay. Had a very slight fishy taste like maybe they were cooked in the same oil as the catfish. I wanted to love this place and may give them another shot. We have traveled from Reno to Vallejo many times for our kids to compete in Judo. We visited this wonderful breakfast place on two occasionsand find the only thing negative is that it is too far from Reno!!! The service was friendly. The management checked on us a couple of times and the food came out fast and fresh. We had 5 of the kids breakfasts (yes, we have 5 munchkins) The waffle and the smoked sausage and pancakes. all were very delicious. The eggs were prepared to order ad over easy. Boy was I wrong, she ordered chicken fried steak with red potatoes and French toast the steak was extremely greasy, red potatoes came with bell peppers and onions after we specifically said we didn't want them ( charged us extra for them anyway) and French toast was smothered in butter and appeared to have no French toast batter. First time to Huckleberry's. I loved the ambiance. Decorated cute. Sort of a southern crocodile motiff. The place was busy and the waitress, Jenna, was adorable. Service was excellent. Food was just average for me though. I got the omelet and potatoes. Potatoes could have been crunchy and had more flavor. They were very simple, just salt and pepper and more potatoe(y) than crispy which I would have preferred. Got biscuit and gravy on the side. Their biscuits are half the size of Black Bear (but lets be real, everyone's biscuits are half the size of BB) and it was really dense and dry. Gravy had good flavor though. This review is mainly for the relaxed atmosphere and enthusiastic customer service. The staff here are very cheerful and extremely helpful. I've called in orders and have dined here plenty of times and all of the employees always had a great attitude. I can't say much about the food for I only order either the corn beef hash combo or the hucks famous chili bowl. Corn beef isn't anything to brag about, though the portions are quite generous in my opinion. Chili bowl comes with garlic bread, can't go wrong with chili. Why ruin a good thing? We usually come here for Sunday brunch and my oldest daughter and I share the Crab Benedict. I have often referred family and friends to this place specifically for this dish. Their large crab cakes were made in house which had huge pieces of lump crab meat! And the other baby, chocolate chip pancakes, what kid doesn't love chocolate or pancakes. So, 2 happy kids, 2 happy parents. As a visitor to the area, I was looking for a great place to get breakfast and I most certainly found it at Huckleberry's. I'm a huge fan of Southern style food and this meal didn't disappoint. I ate here this morning with my daughter who had been before and was so excited for me to come and try the food. I had the Country Fried Steak with eggs, potatoes and biscuits with gravy. The portions were incredibly generous and delicious. We tried the beignets with the huckleberry sauce and vanilla cream which were - light, fluffy and delicious. I only wish I could have eaten more than I did....because leaving anything on the plate is so sad! I've been here for breakfast three times so far and everything has been spot on. Had scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns, and a peach muffin this morning and was delicious. Server came to refill coffee four times. I will be back again for breakfast and may just have to try lunch some day. Yes, parking can be tricky. Lots of butter, but other than that my five year old was very happy. We had tried the whole menu with no disappointment what so ever and was excited each time we came. Today is the last time my family and I will ever come back to Huckleberries. It's been 11 months since we've been here. Last time left a bad taste in my mouth, so to say. Let me start with it was very busy again for Sunday breakfast. They were very organized and prompt in getting everyone seated in a timely manner. Our waitress was very good. Greeted us with a smile and was very fast at getting us something to drink and then our order was taken and food there in no time. Food was good. Not very good or great but good.
