This is a post from Father's Day brunch. We had a party of 16. I called and found out that they do not take reservations, however I spoke to manager Steven and he said call an hour before we plan to be there and he would take care of us. This was by far the best care we have ever received from all the staff. We had a mixed group, elderly, wheelchair, teens, and small children. We didn't feel rushed or like we were a bother. A++ for manager Steven and staff! On to the food: I had pancakes with a side of Huckleberrys, eggs and ham...delish, pancakes were fluffy and bacon crispy. I also tried their beignets...not bad. We have noticed that the food has changed since we first came here. It's close to our home and very convenient. However the food isn't cooked properly and the utensils are lacking (a salad fork and no spoon). They really need to up their game if they want us to return. read more

Just ordered The Mississippi scramble and definitely was not as described. More potatoes than meet, cheese, bacon, ham or EGG. Not to mention that the potatoes were huge in size which the taste was well over powering of just pure potatoes. This was definitely done in a hurry and the potatoes did not taste throughly cooked. To be frank it was disgusting. Very disappointed. I been to the huckleberrys in Fresno and the food and staff were on point. We were on our way somewhere when we hit traffic. I looked up a restaurant on yelp and came up with Huckleberrys! I am so glad we did! From the minute you walk in you are treated with such courtesy and kindness it stands out. It was busy but we didn't even have to wait. We had to have the beignets, Mardi grah style and they were delicious! We also had to have the giant mason jars with delicious strawberry lemonade in them. My daughter got the stuffed French toast which had the most delicious cream inside. Better than any other stuffed French toast she'd had. I had the catfish and it was so good and tasty. This place will definitely be one of our favorites now! read more

A local favorite for breakfast, and they serve lunch menu items all day, just know that they close at 3pm. Their huckleberry swamp tea is so refreshing. They also have beignets, in regular or mardi gras! I love the Aunt Polly's omellete, which is an egg white omelette with just veggies! This is great spot to take the family, especially after church on a Sunday. The servers are very nice, there may be a sign in list, but they move pretty fast! Just don't bother. I was prepared for some mass-produced food nonsense, but this place was even more disappointing that I anticipated. First of all, it was a fairly long wait to be seated, which makes me question the taste level of Benicia as a whole. I got a kick out of the faux bayou decor (I adore cheesy theme restaurants - I'm not ashamed). But the food was "Cajun" minus everything that makes Cajun food delicious. I went there a while back, so I'm not sure if they still have this, but at the time that had individual serving "cheesecake" jars for desert. I was delighted because I love sweeties and I especially love sweeties that I don't have to share. But the "cheesecake" was actually some kind of grotesque pudding that tasted like fake vanilla flavoring topped with horrible pie filling all sitting on top of a "graham cracker crust" that tasted like fake sugar. The girl waiting on us Tracy was quite pleasant, the food was only ok we have to compare it to Denny's today so u can get a gyst of how it was unfortunately I'd be giving Denny's a thumbs up and Huckleberry a thumbs down and I hate Denny's , the grit needed some chicken base or something to make it kick and the shrimp we had needed to be seasoned and the biscuit was like KFC biscuits that have been sitting over night, only could taste flour .However the potatoes and eggs were good and the water with lemon, if you can go to a place and drink the water It's not sooo bad. My boyfriend and I moved to Benicia about a month or so ago and we've already made this spot a Sunday tradition. Love the chicken and waffles! Get them every time. The breading on the chicken makes it so good. My boyfriend typically likes to try something different every week and has been overall pretty satisfied. Good food, good service, great prices. Everything from start to finish was excellent! The waitress was this blonde lady who was very nice to my friend and I, she checked up on us often if we needed anything. As for the food it was very filling, definitely my moneys worth as I got the Huck Scramble. And the food was delicious as well, and the Benedict here tastes very flavorful. I really wanted to like this place because the food on the menu looked so delicious but the service is HORRIBLE and the food is not that great. We waited to order drinks and be greeted at our table for 15 minutes, once we ordered our drinks it took another 10 minutes to get to us... we all only ordered waters too it wasn't like the waiter had to make a bunch of different drinks... we ordered our food and didn't recieve silverware till 10 minutes after the food arrived and was getting cold on our plates... one of my clients just started eating with her hands i was so embarrassed to take these people here. my other client had the chicken sandwich and was extremely disappointed when he removed the bun to see it was more of a dried shriveled up nugget on his plate rather then an actual juicy chicken sandwich like it should've been... I received chicken and waffles and there was only one chicken strip burnt to a crisp... not only was the food bad but the service was bad too, the waiting for our drinks is whatever but anytime we had to ASK for a refill because he never checked on us he seemed extremely bothered we were asking for service... it was so uncomfortable. I will be contacting upper management or even an owner because this is not a way a business should be ran, especially when someone is coming spending well over 100 on a breakfast bill and still tipping well above 20%. read more

We just moved to the area and had never been to a Huckleberry's before. We thought the food was really good, and the service even better. We just went a 2nd time and sat in the main room, which we liked a lot. The waitress was perfect, cheery, friendly, she came back just enough times to check in, coffee was always full, food was fantastic. We've tried a few other places locally and this is our new favorite. The only issue if there was one was the wait can get a bit long, but that's what happenes when you serve up a good product. 5 stars! read more

I just had the worst experience at the Huckleberrys in Benicia. First of all, the waitress was way more concerned with moving us along than with our dining experience. I ordered a scrambled egg plate... it came out cold. The ham was luke warm, but the eggs and hashbrowns were like ice. I sent the plate back. The plate came back microwaved; the eggs were still cold in some places and the hashbrowns were rubbery. Over-microwaved I think. Whiie the waitress apologized for the food being cold, she never followed up with us before we left. No one at the register asked how the meal was. I wont be back anytime soon. Such a disappointment. Whatver they used to fry the hash browns left a thick greasy coating on the roof of my mouth like Crisco or petroleum, that stuck there. Good sized portions, good variety and you can get a good breakfast or lunch for two at a very reasonable price. Sometimes the weekends can get busy but I've never waited more than 20 min. Serious change management needs to happen here. I thought Randy's 907 service was pathetic. Huck's brings the definition of incompetent to a new level. We waited 45 minutes from the time of ordering to getting food brought to the table with sides coming in at 35 minutes. Wait staff returned every 15 minutes saying it would be just a few more, they're working on your order now. When my Philly cheese did arrive, half of the sando had meat and unmelted cheese, the other half had a few peppers and grilled onions sans cheese/meat. My wife's order was no where to be seen. I should have taken a picture of the sandwich, it was a kodak moment. I called the waitress over and explained that this was ridiculous and that I wanted the check and we were leaving. I think this is the first time someone had made a request like this. She looked like a deer in bathed in headlights. Other customers, besides us waited as long or longer for their orders to arrive. The parent company that sells franchises of this themed restaurant should screen their franchisee's just a little bit better. All applicants should have a minimum 4 year degree and spend at least 1 year in training under the parent company. Current owners of this location should be reviewed by the parent and changes should be imposed or revoke licensing agreement. Bottom line, food and service damages parent company brand. I discovered this place when trying the new Burmese restaurant in the same vicinity. Took my husband and children here to try it, it was okay. The staff was helpful, nice, and attentive so my experience was probably better than what I was tasting. I've had better, it was alright. If you want really good southern-style cuisine drive to Berkeley and try Angeline's their Beignets are on point. read more

Went in for lunch on a weekday around 1:30pm. Off to a great start when the owner/manager held the door open for us and gave us a warm welcome. Once inside we were highly impressed with the décor--wonderful job on the theme! We were seated immediately and received fast efficient service (only had a couple tables filled at the time and ample staffing). An incredible start indeed. The lunch menu is limited and laden with fried food items...but this is southern cooking so I jumped right in the fryer. I ordered the southern fried chicken strips and chips (fries) and the better half ordered 1/2 a pulled pork sandwich with chips (fries). It is here where or experience truly went south... The chicken was the driest most un-flavorful fried item I have ever consumed--I ate one of the 5 strips. The fries were curly and seasoned--standard grocery store fare from the frozen food aisle and the garlic bread that came with it was ok at best. As for the BBQ pulled pork...we both agreed it was the most subpar we have ever had. Both meals reminded us of crummy fried foods served at a county fair in the red plastic baskets...you get the picture. To have such a wonderful staff and beautiful restaurant it is such a shame the food is so BAD. Southern style food may indeed be fried and fatting but they are bursting with flavor!!! Expected a lot more from this place. I was so excited to hear that Benicia was getting another choice for breakfast....but was disappointed once I tried it out. The food is standard fare, comparable to Dennys. Our breakfasts were just OK..and the "famous" the beignets were so full of oil that when you cut them it just oozed out. Breakfast first visit, service was friendly and fast. Food delivery was average time, the butter crispy waffle was not cooked in the middle with batter consistancy, I sent the waffle back and the replacement was better but syill not cooked in the middle. Eggs and bacon was fine. Two reconmendations, 1. All syrup should be heated, nothing worse than poring cold syrup over you pancakes or waffles. 2. Learn how to cook pancakes and waffles, this is the easiest thing in the world to make. read more

Yelp really needs to install a half-star option, because I'd give it 2.5. I really, really wanted to like this place, but the food was just so-so. Service was excellent, however. My wife had chicken and waffles...they used chicken strips, and not actual chicken pieces, that was the first strike. The other problem was that the strips were bland! Hardly any flavor at all. I had the chicken fried steak. While the steak itself was OK, it just didn't 'wow', and neither did the undercooked hash browns that accompanied it. They did give good portions, no one left hungry, that's for sure. I'll probably be back, but I'd love it if had been a Black Bear restaurant instead for this location. read more

The staff was nice but extremely slow, the waitress only came by once during our visit to refill coffee which I thought was odd. Waited 40 mins to be seated while they tell you 20 still not so unsual, but had I known that ahead of time I would have went somewhere else. Waited another 30-40 to get our food... Becoming an unpleasant experience. Asked for bacon and they gave me sausage. They corrected the mistake in two seconds with bacon that looked like it belonged to someone else, but was extremely burnt. Took a bite of my French toast and it was undercooked, because I could still taste the egg it was a goopy mess. The other two people I was dining with finished there breakfast and I never got my French toast. I came here during the week previously and thought it was good so I came back. I don't think I will come back for a while until they've improved on quality and service. read more

We had to try this place. The previous business was Mike and Gayle's, which we quite liked, but they closed down. Huckleberry's is a theme restaurant, and I don't like theme restaurants, but I'll leave that aside for my review and just talk about the food and service. The service is pretty good. We were there on a Saturday just before noon and they were about half-full when we got there. We were seated right away, and our server was energetic and attentive throughout our meal. She did not bring us one extra item we had ordered but was quick to take it off the bill when we pointed it out. OK, on to the food. We ordered breakfast items and started with an order of what Huckleberry's calls a beignet. It's not a beignet, it's more of a cake doughnut without a hole. One huge thing in its favor: it was not overly-sweet! The propensity of restaurants to sweeten everything, and over-sweeten many things, is a pet peeve of mine. They do this to appeal to younger customers, but for everyone with fully developed taste buds, it's a real turnoff. The "beignets" were pretty bland but we enjoyed them anyway. It's almost impossible to screw up fried dough. Free hint to Huckleberry's: add some salt, vanilla and nutmeg to that dough and you will have a winner, but please stop calling it a beignet. I ordered eggs and a half waffle with bacon. The eggs were perfectly cooked for my taste. The waffle was nice and crisp but unremarkable. Bacon was crisp, as I had ordered it. My husband had the ranch steak combo. The small steak (appropriate for breakfast) was quite tough despite having been run through a mechanical tenderizer, and it was undercooked for how my husband had ordered it. Hash browns made from frozen potatoes were OK, not great. Flabby pancakes, fake butter, and fake maple syrup. BAD fake maple syrup. This is another pet peeve of mine. We live in America, where almost the entire world supply of maple syrup is produced. Is it that hard to get hold of real maple syrup? I see it in stores all the time. OK, the fake stuff is a lot cheaper, I get it. So make a nice blended syrup, but put some maple flavor in it! The stuff they serve at Huckleberry's had no discernible maple flavor. It tasted of corn syrup. Yuck! And don't serve it cold, by the way. My complaints about Huckleberry's are not so much specific to Huckleberry's as they are about chain restaurants in general. They all seem to be competing with McDonald's to see who can produce the cheapest meal and make the most profit. I sure wish they'd compete to see who could produce the tastiest meal instead. I would gladly pay more for a great meal and I think most people agree. So if you don't mind theme restaurants, give this place a try, order carefully, and keep your expectations in check. read more

Our food and service is always VERY consistent. Have not had a single complaint about food quality, quantity or service. Even with a large crowd this morning the neal prep was quick and efficient. I would also like to note that our server Drea was fantastic about making sure all of our needs were met! She definitely deserves a raise and or promotion.
