They remember faces despite long gaps of absence, yet they're so warm it feels we didn't skip a beat. The menu is abundant, with several soups to always choose from, a ton of salads, and sandwich options. My go-to (for decades) has been the combo with a half sandwich and half house salad with their house ranch dressing. I typically get the turkey and cheese on croissant. Toss in an iced tea. Best fill sauce and chicken wraps! We add bacon to it and it's declious!! Another hidden gem in rocklin! They have fresh soft bread and we use this to dip in the dill sauce. Came here for lunch to meet a friend last week. I always look forward to la bou for their creamy tomato bisque. Unfortunately, I believe they have changed the recipe for the soup. It used to be my absolute favourite tomato soup. I will have to find something else I like. But there are tons on the menu. I've been coming here for over a decade and I'm ashamed that I haven't written a review sooner. But late is better than NEVER?! It's small and cute with a decent amount of tables to sit at. The sandwiches and salads are always so incredibly good. I almost always get their Chinese chicken salad and Thai chicken soup. It's my favorite! The chicken salad is loaded with sliced chicken breast and lots of peanuts. That soup is incredible too, I haven't been able to find a soup like it anywhere!?! I have searched for the recipe online to no avail. Anyway, I'm a fan of LaBou and there isn't a location I didn't like. The service and food is always great. I haven't been to La Bou in years. I used to frequent the downtown Sacramento location back in the 90's. This is a different location, with pretty much what I remember the menu looking like back then.... Except for the prices! I ordered a half Asian noodle salad with chicken alongside a cup of Thai spice chicken soup and a small iced tea. It came at a cost of about $20! I think the prices are a little steep when you consider what you're getting. The food was okay. No complaints. But there wasn't an over abundance of it and it wasn't spectacular! This will be the last time I come here. As I watch in amazement not 1 but 2 women making order after order with gloves on. THE SAME GLOVES. They never once changed them so who knows how long they had been wearing them. Watching them touch LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE THING INCLUDING FOOD with the same gloves that they just grabbed your lettuce with and your chicken and bread bread, back and forth from all the handles knobs, lids, all the way back to the microwave door and buttons and so and so forth. Making sandwiches and salads never once changing gloves. Until it was pointed out. I will not be back. Gloves are ment to be changed and used for food handling to protect customers not to just keep the employees hands clean because they can't be bothered to WASH them or change gloves between orders it defeats the purpose. Visited this place while working in the area and it was a good sandwich spot. I wish I would have tried some of the pastries that were there but I was in a rush to eat and then leave. I had the California club on a croissant and it was pretty good. Thinking I should have had the baguette toasted as I saw a few people eating that. I also had the tomato soup which was quite good as well. This is a solid 3.5 stars and for a sandwich shop that's pretty good. I've been eating at La Bou since college in the 1990s. Granted, it has been a while since I had ordered anything besides a croissant and coffee, but wow. I went in with my daughter and after waiting a few minutes as the staff seemed more focused on to-go orders, I ordered a chicken Caesar salad for my daughter and clam chowder for me. Someone, I ended up with two salads and a soup - which was fine, I figured I would pay for the extra item since it was already made. Total for 2 small salads, a small soup and 2 cans of soda was over $30. I'm pretty sure I was overcharged but in the moment - I let it go. The employees do seem as though having walk-in business is bothersome. I understand that food costs are up, and I do not mind paying extra to support a small business. Unfortunately, the food was literally inedible. The chicken was some kind of deli meat-style smoked product that was on top of the salad in thin slices. The soup had a strange clumpy consistency and tasted as though it had been reheated multiple times. Even the baguette was stale. We decided to pop in for lunch since I had to stop at harbor freight, figure we could keep it healthier than getting a burger somewhere. We both ordered the half salad and soup. We both got a chicken Caesar salad, she got the Thai chicken soup and I got the chicken tortilla. We shared a Snapple. 34 bucks!!!! Ugh! I almost wanted to ask if they rung it up right. Lol. Salads were decent but lacking chicken. The soups were just plain useless. No chicken in the soups and barely any chunks of anything and they didn't taste like much. Little disappointing. The spicy Thai chicken soup (my fav!!) tasted like dirty dishwater, only 2 small chunks of chicken no rice no mushrooms. The simple Turkey sandwich wasn't on the right bread, and the usual great quality fresh sliced Turkey was replaced with slimy Walmart lunch meat. It was a nice treat to wake up early, get there a bit after they opened and had a great selection of everything. 4 stars because I kind of felt like the lady behind the counter was rushing me (they only had one other customer besides me), so that made no sense. I even told her I haven't been to a La Bou in a while and to give me time. That's my way of saying, "go do something else for a couple of minutes so I can make up my mind". She just stood there behind the counter, watching me and waiting for me to decide. On the plus side, l had a hot croissant with spinach-one of my all time favorite items La Bou makes. Always gotta get to most locations early to get one. I also took a chocolate croissant and raspberry croissant to go, along with a cup of self serve coffee. She bagged my hot croissant with the chocolate croissant-why would you do that? The hot croissant should've been bagged by itself!
