We needed a spot for breakfast with the family, and the group decided on Huckleberry's (Huck's) so I got to experience it for the very first time. The first thing I noticed about the menu is that they have so many options. I wasn't super hungry, but something I learned is that the portion sizes here are massive! So if you aren't hungry, you'll have plenty of leftovers for another meal. For our meal, we started out with the beignets which came with a variety of jams on the plate. I thought the beignets were alright, at least they were warm, but the jams didn't do it for me. You get 3 large beignets, so if you have a big group, it's a good shareable dish. For my main entree, I went with the grilled chicken sandwich with extra cajun seasoning. The chicken was pretty thin and dry but it did what it needed to do. The fries could've used a little more time in the fryer but at least their ranch and buffalo sauce were good. If I went again, I definitely would go for their scrambles or chicken fried steak. I had a couple nibbles from others' plates, and thought it was decent food at a great value. Not sure if I'm rushing to back, but wouldn't be opposed if someone suggested it. read more

I don't usually order chicken and waffles, but I'm glad I did. The breading was so flavorful and just the right texture. The waffles were crunchy on the outside and fluffy and soft on the inside. The only thing I didn't love were the eggs. My mom had the ham platter and unfortunately she wasn't a fan. The ham was pretty fatty. Service was okay, not that great. Was able to swoop in a little bit after lunch and was able to get seated fairly quickly. Overall a decent vibe for a family friendly style restaurant. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, country potatoes, scrambled eggs with a biscuit. The food was nice and hot, and when I asked for additional gravy they gave me a good bowl of hot gravy which I really appreciated. Everything was of a good quality but the flavor wasn't anything particularly great. It was a bit bland. They do provide several condiments but I'd prefer something with more flavor. They have a variety of foods that will surely satisfy your tastebuds. I got the Mardi Gras Beignets which were very delicious. It comes with three huge, fluffy beignets that pair very well with their sauces of huckleberry, strawberry, and peaches. The pastry was light and not too doughy toppled with a generous amount of powdered sugar that gives it a nice sweetness. Definitely something to share as a nice starter/appetizer. As for my main entree I went ahead and ordered something I wouldn't usually get, Crabs Benedict. Very impressed with how it came out!! The eggs were perfectly runny while sitting on top of the crab mixture topped with the hollandaise sauce. I got a side of fresh fruit to go along with the dish. The service was good with our server refilling our drinks when she noticed it was empty. We ordered a Peach Iced Tea as well. Oh my goodness, this drink was overbearingly sweet! The syrup they used did not sit well and overpowered the beverage even with constant dilution from our water. Would not recommend this one at all. If you want some southern comfort food...this is the place to go!!! My boyfriend and I met up with one of t His friends here. I've had southern food before but this is probably one the best that I've had. I got the fish (deep friend catfish) and chips and swamp tea for drinks. Everything was cooked well. The fries was a little soggy even if I told them to make it extra well done/crispy. I found the swamp tea to be a little sweet so I had to water it down. The highlight of our dine in was the Beignets. They were the bomb!!!!! My boyfriend ordered the shrimp po'boy. It was huge and came with a LOT of shrimps. It was so big that you can't even eat it as a sandwich. Our overall experience was good. The staff was nice and very attentive. I ordered the French quarter French toast and when I came there was a huge blonde hair in it, luckily I found it before I took my first bite. Super dissatisfied, we went here for breakfast, I got the Cajun. Two poached eggs over grilled Andouille sausage, sliced tomatoes, our toasted sourdough - topped with green onions with hash brown. The hash brown was not even cooked, the sourdough was soggy and not toasted at all. My son got a half waffle and that was so overcooked it crunched apart and he couldn't eat it. We had breakfast at Huckleberry's about 1-1/2 weeks ago in Salida. It was so good, we wanted to try a more local version. The concept is pretty good. The menu is breakfast and lunch only. All of the restaurants are relatively new. This restaurant has a large parking lot. The entrance is in the front of the buildling facing Treat Blvd. While there was a help wanted sign in the window, there were six employees behind the counter who greeted us. We were immediately taken to a table, asked if we had been before, and menus presented. Our server came by and took our drink order and since we were ready, our breakfast order as well. The wait was very short and soon we had our orders of: Mardi Gras Beignets - 4 - More evenly cooked than those at Salida; still a bit heavy and the accompaniments on the plate were not as well presented. Chicken Fried Steak Platter - 5 - I must have been hungry. Not a crumb left when I was done eating. Last time, the platter was enough for breakfast and dinner! Chicken & Waffles - 5 - Our friend said he liked his food. Enough so that he ordered a Monte Christo to go with Sweet Potato Fries for his niece who was housesitting. Tom's Scramble with Chicken Fried Steak - 5 - She said it was delicious and very filling. Service was very friendly and efficient. The restaurant was clean. The one downtick for me was that although our server was masked, it kept slipping off of her nose. The food is always great. My go to breakfast is the chicken fried steak breakfast which I share with one of my kids since it is so much food. The staff here are always great and attentive. I saw this place advertised/hyped up in a food bloggers tik tok and decided to give it a try since she even went as far to say that their Mardi Gras Beignets were BETTER than NOLA. Should have known that was a fat lie. The stacked chicken and waffles was ok but really flavorless overall only flavor was the syrup. Chicken was moist I'll give them that but the waffle was a weird texture that def made me feel like it wasn't even poured batter made in house. Usually their gumbo is great, but a friend brought me a bowl for my birthday lunch and it was below par. No okra or sausage and the usually crispy and warm bread was cold and soggy. She ate hers in the restaurant and it was the same. Definitely not a good choice for a to go item. I'll give them a chance to redeem themselves in house. This is one of the friendliest and amazing local hometown family restaurant. Please note it only does breakfast and lunches. We had an amazing brunch for four for a total cost of about $52 drinks included. When you're passing through Turlock or spend a lot of time in Turlock you definitely have to experience this restaurant. read more

I honestly don't understand why my husband keeps bragging about how good cuckooberry is. we ordered the deep fry green tomatoes and it was served literally 1 minute after placing the order. I looked at my husband and was like did they just served us an old order that's been sitting out?. Green deep fry tomatoe was cold and soggy fully drenched in frying oil! The saddest thing I ever saw. I just kept dabbing that crap in paper towel eventually making a huge greasy mess. I made sure the waitres saw the mess & acknowledge their lack of food quality care towards their customers.
