They have plenty of sides to choose from and will exchange anything you don't like such as the really garlicky bacon slaw. Okra, black-eyed peas and creamed spinach was good choices. We're visiting Lake Texoma from out of town and got a recommendation for this place. Simply great catfish. Half a pound is plenty, especially with the sides. We got the potato salad with ham, which I could not recommend more highly. I got the fried squash, which doesn't really taste like anything and my boyfriend got the pinto beans which were yummy. I'm bummed they weren't serving fried okra or black eyed peas (they only have them on certain days of the week). It's great value for the quality and amount of food you get. The service was also great, we felt well taken care of. The catfish is light and tasty. There's usually a wait, but don't be concerned, they turn quickly. read more

Absolutely DISGUSTING. Over-Priced JUNK FOOD. BAD, bad quality. Absolutely terrible. A friend talked them up, so we drove up from Dallas (area). WTF! Golden Corral is way more worth the price, if u want this type of food. FARM-Raised, HALF-Filletes that look like TILAPIA fillets (sizes). Tastes like pond water. Menu says 4 Fillets at $18.95 but it should read: 4 Half Fillets. I do not mind spending money on food. All I eat is ORGANIC, unless I want to have a cheat day (like this morning). But, this is NOT worth a cheat - holy cr@p! Bad, bad quality!!! Lettuce is cheap, thin pieces of iceburg lettuce. No spinach or romaine, etc.. No Greens except Mooshy Greenbeans that are like salt-moosh. Their Butter is 46% Vegetable oil: no healthy alternative. Oils are very bad for you; main cause for Heart problems. Oils oxidize inside the body and cause inflammation. This entire place is: FRIED, FRIED and more FRIED. Which is fine if you are in the mood. But the fish is nasty, and soggy and fishy and TINY for that price mark. Not a single, healthy thing on their menu except LEMONS that you can request with your water. Not sure how the water is filtered but at least it didn't taste bad. Side menu items are all NASTY choices like Fries, beans, mooshy greenbeans. Nothing cool like steamed veggies, broccoli, etc.. If you love FRIED and no nutrient-dense, healthy items, then this place is for you. But even the unhealthy, fried catfish is the size of TINY TILAPIA fillets. 4 for $18.95. Super over-priced junk food. I asked for steamed catfish and the seasoning was pure SALT. Asked for no seasoning, and it was super FISHY. THIS place is a joke! THE place to go for catfish. There is a reviewer below who said something about "tiny, tilapia sized portions, and complaining about 4 filets costing 18.95." He must have been somewhere else. Because at Huck's, a half order (two filets, large, full sized filets) are all I can eat. Huck's really has the batter and frying process down, too, so that the batter is crispy, but the fish is moist and flakey. And their sides.............always hard to pick from their sides. They are all so good. The creamed spinach. The cole slaw. The potato salad that is more like a loaded baked potato than normal potato salad. The staff are great too. Wonderful folks. Wonderful food. And readers, if you ever wonder about negative reviews of places, go read that users account. The one I referenced above seems to relish posting negative, one star reviews. Do not think that this is an accurate reflection of any kind on Huck's Catfish. They are worth every penny. (Trust me, I could eat my weight in catfish and I am a pretty good sized man.) We love Huck's catfish restaurant. The food is absolutely wonderful!!! The waitstaff and owners frequently check on each table and see if everything is okay. I like the catfish called-"burn it!" Recommended by a friends father and she doesn't even like fish but enjoys the Chicken Fried Steak. Everyone else in our party ordered the catfish with different sides. Huck's has a boatload of advertisement in the restaurant to extol the greatness of his catfish and let me be one of many on these reviews, it does not disappoint! The fish is a lite pure white flakey fish fillet with a crisp outer crust that is perfectly deep fried. The quality of all ingredients is very apparent in the taste and texture of this fine quality catfish filet. You can easily understand the minor cost increase from other catfish chains because from the oil they fry in to the tender white flaky fish, it's perfect! Having been told that this was one of THE places to get good catfish in north Texas, we had to try it. The opportunity came about on a Saturday around 4:00pm and it was packed (waited 15 min for a table for 4). Service was entirely excellent and professional--they draw in the crowds and take good care of them. The restaurant is quite large, but that did not keep management from making the rounds to say "thank you" for stopping in. The catfish pieces are good size and cooked perfectly: crisp and golden brown outside, moist and tender inside. Their hushpuppies may be the best around (2 come with a dinner, so you'll want to order extra). Fried shrimp are panko-crusted and cooked to the exact moment that the plump crustaceans are *just* done. The tartar sauce had large cut pieces of onion, which seemed odd. The cocktail sauce had no discernible horseradish, so the flavor was not what it should have been. French fries are the fresh-cut type, seemingly not rinsed and double fried, so they were a little on the limp side but still had good flavor. Most of us agreed that we would go back. read more

A couple reminders - first, the default for catfish here is "light & flaky" so if you like crunch just tell em to burn it. It's really good here, 4 1/2 stars good. And a full order is 4 pieces so it isn't uncommon for a half or maybe 3/4 order. I love to eat good catfish in small out of the way towns. I don't understand why it is not as celebrated by foodies as other categories such as Tex Mex. Catfish is the native food of North Texas and I can name many good restaurants in tiny little towns. I have to say, Huck's is the best. It is consistantly a winner. Now this place I Denison was a shock to my system. It's a long drive from the city but the catfish is lift and fluffy. Plus it stays hot the entire time. It almost burned my mouth. I loved it. I have never ate catfish that never cooled down. I wonder if they have a temperature lock or something. Then I had fried okra oh take me to my granny patio and give me a rocking chair. My husband and I have driven up to this restaurant from Plano as we love the food. We don't dine in the restaurant because of COVID. We take our food to one of the nearby parks and have a little picnic. The last time in. I was very concerned that half of the staff, including the owner and the cashier are not wearing masks as required by state law. Huck's has the magic formula. I guarantee that somewhere in the recipe it calls for infusing the catfish with "miracles." And you can't buy miracles at an ordinary grocery store. Whatever it is they do, they do it better than any other catfish place on the planet. I've had really great catfish, I've had some that was barely edible, and then I've experienced Huck's. It is an experience, not just a delicious meal. The deliciousness is only the icing on the cake. The most amazing component of the experience is how hot the catfish remains throughout the meal. I'm not talking just stays warm, I'm talking about fresh out of the fryer hot. Every bite feels like the first. My girlfriend and I shake our heads in wonderment every time we eat here. How do they get it to stay hot? The catfish itself is flaky, perfectly cooked, and practically melts in your mouth. It is distinctively catfish, but cooked to perfection. Oh, and did I mention it remains hot throughout the meal? The only downside is its location, way outside of civilization in Denison. People live there, but that's about all that can be said about it ;) (I was born there, my family still lives there). Huck's is on our "must stop" list whenever we visit this part of the country and, outside of the often long wait for a table, it doesn't disappoint. The fish is not greasy at all, and the hush puppies are soft in the middle and crunchy on the outside. If you want to go full-tilt, don't walk out the door without ordering a pecan cobbler. (They'll pack it so you can take it to go.) If you are planning to visit on Sunday, remember that Huck's closes at 3 p.m. Also, the business is closed on Monday. read more

I recently visited Hucks Catfish, and this is a place you want to visit if you are in the area. I would agree with Scott P, the default for the fried catfish is light and flaky, ask them to burn it for a crunch. When ordering, I noticed a cajun fish, and they had grilled shrimp. I asked the waitress to put it together and get me a Cajun shrimp, and the 'chef' was more than glad to do it. The 'other vegetable' for the day was a bacon slaw, which is to die for. The desert was an afterthought, I got the peach cobbler, and it was extremely sweet, so I'd stay away from that. All in all a great experience. read more

I am a catfish afficionado, i love catfish. I have had some great fish over the years, and my share of not so great fish. This place has great catfish. I prefer my fish a little crispy but not completely burnt. I have eaten here now 4-5 times, and the fish has been consistently good each time. They have some sides like squash and okra that are only available on certain days, which can be a little frustrating, but every side I have tried has been very good. If you go during peak times, you are going to have to wait, so be prepared. It's usually not too bad, I would say except maybe Sunday lunch, usually has a 30-45 minute wait. The menu is pretty simple, they stick to what works. The fried shrimp is good, but not as good as the fish. The staff has been very friendly each time I have been here and feels like a family type place. The only thing I would change is the hush puppies, I prefer jalapeno hush puppies, but that's just a personal preference. The ones they have are very good. If you are in the area and like catfish, I would give them a try. read more

Traveling to and from a camp at Lake Texoma, we Yelped for a solution to the endless fast food and chain restaurant options. Finding several positive reviews of Huck's, we gave it a try. The food was delicious. My husband had the fried fish sandwich, and I had the blackened salmon. Delicious. The fried shrimp on my son's plate were perfectly prepared. Most importantly, my son who does not like seafood noted that his fried chicken had NOT been fried in the same oil as the seafood and was thus delicious. So, the food was superb. What I want to applaud most is the service. This staff is very well trained. They go out of the way to please, compliment and encourage one another, and even offered to go drinks when they heard we had a long drive ahead. We come here at least once a year for camp and will make Huck's a regular stop!! read more

Passing through town, stopped here because of the rave reviews. First I have to say that Shelby is a top notch server and deserves a raise. Secondly, those hush puppies are the best I've ever had in my life. Those alone are worth coming here for, but the catfish is great too. Garlic Bacon Coleslaw is a real side dish here that helps to stave off vampires, it's that potent but delicious. The only negative I can think of isn't really a negative, but the Philly creamed spinach side dish eats almost like a dip and made me wish I had something like tortilla chips for it. Finally, the pecan cobbler with ice cream is tops but I do want to try the peach next time! Will definitely start making it a habit to stop here on all my future gambling trips. read more

My family and I all went and tried it. It was a cute place with great waitors and the sides were amazing but the main course in the meals we all got was just okay. My dad, sister and I all ordered the catfish and we all had the same reaction: It was just okay. My two nephews got corndogs and both of them got sick, and my mom got chicken fried steak and barely ate any of it.
