This morning a visit to Huddle House ended in being reprimanded by the waitress. I've had breakfast there many times and have been told to seat yourself there are no signs asking that customers wait to be seated. As I walked in the waitress said Good morning, I'll be with you soon and as usual I seated myself along with 2 coworkers. Suddenly the waitress said very loudly from 3 tables away , " you can't sit there , I thought you 2 went to the bathroom! I'm the only one here to serve today so go back up to the register and I'll get you a table up front closer to the other tables" umm this table was 3 tables away from where she was serving someone else. A proportion everything very weird. I'm vegetarian, I was feeling peckish so I was wanting to support local business and get fries. They don't mind giving you a full waffle with sausage, egg and cheese, but I ordered fries thinking OK, since they have all this good food maybe their fries would be on point? No... the fact that I asked for one thing and they still managed to mess it up is crazy. There were more ketchup packets in the bag then there was fries I was very disappointed. They say that they proportion everything but as a TEXAN I say they're not realistic. In fact I think they're being very cheap. I'm never coming back. What they gave me for $3. None of them knew there was an order up, and one of them mentioned it had been up for a minute. The food at this Huddle House is pretty good...very similar to the Waffle House menu! For the price, I prefer the Huddle House menu and prices over most of the San Angelo restaurants offering full breakfast menus. HOWEVER, I have not eaten there for more than six months. As with others posted here, as well as many more who I personally know, the service is lacking. I as with many restaurants, poor service seems to be the fault of poor managerial/leadership skills, not necessarily the staff. Many friends and acquaintances, especially African Americans, prefer to spend their money and time elsewhere, even at places that are inferior to Huddle House. Because of the poor service and the chaos that erupts during busy times, the ambience that ensues detracts from what could be a pleasant experience. (Note that this is based on experiences that occurred several months ago.) If new management is in place, I pray that this Huddle House has turned itself around. If not, I am 100% certain that another Huddle House to the south or southwest side of town would prosper. The current restaurant is on the opposite side of San Angelo where there is shopping, residential development, and entertainment and ongoing hotel developments. There are THOUSANDS of people here who either (1) don't know this Huddle House exists, (2) don't do business on the north side of town, or (3) don't want to cross town only to wait up to an hour to be seated while looking at empty tables sitting vacant or waiting to be bussed. I'll just start with the positives first. Joddie was our server and she was very nice and attentive. Gave us refills, asked if we needed condiments, quickly cleaned our table before seating us. Given how short staffed they were and how much she was multitasking with different tables, I would say she was awesome! I honestly felt bad for all the servers because they had to play host(ess), waiter/waitress, and busser while also cashing people out. That's a lot of pressure on just 3 people with a packed house. Now with the negatives. The booths were dirty in the restaurant (yet I can understand how it's impossible to clean everything during a busy hour on a Sunday with little staff). The plates with our food on it were dirty, including a few of the silverware that we had. Seeing that kind of ruined my appetite. The wait time was extremely long for a small restaurant. IHOP can be pretty slow on their busy days, but this was probably the worst I've experienced. Had to wait about 20- 30 minutes after being seated to have our order taken, then another 30-40 minutes for the food to be brought out. The pancakes were very bland unless you doused it with syrup. The butter on the pancakes was not good. The scrambled eggs with cheese were just okay and the sausages were smaller than what I'd thought they'd be. I've seen many people at their tables looking around and wondering when their order would be taken or when their food would be out. Also saw quite a bit of people waiting at the front to be seated for 10+ minutes, and then walking out. We got there right before the morning rush on a Sunday, so maybe we should've came earlier. But I honestly don't really think we'll go back there again. Maybe on occasion when it's during a slow hour in the middle of the week, but I doubt it. Whataburger is better lol. It's a chain restaurant so don't expect unique, specialty food. We did have issues getting in because the system went down but overall they handled fine. The food for what you're paying is good. I have never left a review for any business but I had to leave one for this business. I went with a friend who lives out of town on New Year's Day. The place was empty, so it was quiet. The table was dirty upon arrival. No relaxing music while you wait for your order. The customer service was horrible. The waitress had ear phones in and had no conversation skills. When we finally got our order, it was wrong. She left cups waiting to be refilled, dirty plates on the table, and no offer for condiments. I came in to get something to eat and it is freezing in here. It's cold outside, so I wanted somewhere warm to have a warm meal but this definitely was not the place the food was good and the server was amazing but it is freezing in here. This is the second time I've been in a month and the heater still is not fixed the poor server Jacob I believe his name is was wonderful, but was so cold. He had a stand in front of the heater, a little portable one that they had plugged into the wall. No one should have to work like this.
