Hudson has been on our brunch list forever, but every time we drive by, the line is around the building and my hungry stomach won't let me stop. It was pretty gloomy this morning, so maybe most were hanging at home because we were able to get right in and were seated at the bar. The hostess and our server/bartender were wonderful- attentive and very friendly. We opted for the monte cristo and the brisket omelette. I think I'd pass on the monte cristo next time, it was underwhelming. The omelette,however, was one of the best I've ever had. Filled with cheddar and brisket, topped with crispy onion and sour cream...outstanding! I had a side of cheesy grits and they were awesome also. Next time we'll definitely be ordering the chicken fried steak. It looked great! I'd say that Hudson was well worth the wait. read more

YUM! It is a simple word, isn't it? And yet, it is filled with meaning, just like my experience today at Hudson. Please take note, no kids allowed. Is it wrong, as a mom, to do just a bit of a tap-dance upon learning this? Oh well, I did, with nary a backward glance, ha, ha!. Luckily, Sara was far and away, busily gobbling down French toast at home. Let me begin with the menu! What a fabulously eclectic adventure! My friends chose the "shrimp grits" and the classic "Hudson", both looked and smelled...dare I say...yummy! And, my "huevos rancheros" was delightful. The quiet complexity of the black beans were the perfect canvas for the perfectly done eggs, sultry salsa (no, seriously, this was a flippin' sultry salsa), crunchy tortilla, and queso fresco. Oh, and our server was terrific! The place was PACKED (at 10:30 am, no less) and yet she (I am so sorry, I forgot to ask her name) made us feel as if she was so happy we had happened along the place! How refreshing! Do yourself a favor. Go find this place way out in the hinterlands of Georgetown and eat here! It is not going to be at the speed of Denny's, deal with it because the food and service are over the moon. Come on, you deserve it! read more

Just raised prices without updating the menu. $12 for one lukewarm biscuit and gravy was too much.

Having recently started a new job a mere few blocks from this place, I've had lunch & visited for happy hour. This place serves great drinks, and the food is fine. The prices are easily a few $$ less than you find in "downtown" seattle for a similar menu. The acoustics are horrible - when it is full, you can barely carry on a conversation with the person sitting next to you...but I guess that is part of the charm. My advice: go early for lunch if you want to have a conversation. And parking is funky - you can park across the street inside the fenced area. Well, I did & didn't get towed, anyway! My co-workers like to head here for drinks frequently. I have a feeling I'll become a fan. read more

This is a pretty unremarkable place despite the friendly service. The lack of A/C during such a hot day was a big minus! Appetizers were okay, but not memorable, I highly recommend the Diet Coke. They do have this funky half-sink in the men's restroom that makes you wonder if the other half is in the women's restroom, we'll never be able to know for sure :( read more

um.. have you heard of something called the manmosa? so let me just tell you it is on another level. i could drink those all day and just be drunk. such a good morning cocktail. i ended up getting the french toast that was so buttery on the outside .. letting all that syrup soak into the french toast was ridiculous. it was soo good. bacon could have been cooked a little more because they were a bit limp but over all i was very excited about the food. bf had the chicken fried steak that was super crunch and delicious. had a nice flavoring to it and let me tell you, wouldn't mind coming back. this has got to be a staple for brunch on the weekends. wait could take awhile so just make sure you give it some time. the worst part about the place was the time it took to get our food i'm pretty sure we waited a good 30-40 minutes? I love Smartypants. One of my absolute favorite places. I wanted to love Hudson. The decor is chic without being pretentious. It's clean and modern and cool. Service was friendly. I really wanted to love it. We went for breakfast, and it was good. Like Smartypants, the menu is carnivore-focused on. The pulled pork omelet was a hit with my other half. I got the 2 egg breakfast and french toast. Good, not great. We'll definitely go back for dinner & booze, to give the place a fair shake. Unfortunately, we probably won't be back on a hot day... Here's the bad news: the deck was tiny and had a small sign saying no alcohol allowed. No booze on deck? No deal. This would have been a 4 star review (that pulled pork omelet was GOOD) but outdoor seating at a bar really should be zoned for drinking. Maybe they have air conditioning? Hmmm.... read more

We're on a mission to find authentic, Texas-style chicken fried steak (CFS). Hudson is getting pretty darn close! The meat was not the frozen patty that is offered at most restaurants in the city, and the frying was perfect. For those CFS experts out there, these had the famous "pocket" - the space between the steak and batter that's caused from frying. The crust was tasty and the steak tender. The gravy wasn't perfect, but it didn't stop us each from devouring our meal. One final note... It took a while for our food to come, and the waitress took our drinks off the ticket without us having to say anything. And I had a $9 drink. Classy all the way. Stay gold, Hudson! read more

Any restaurant that opens up right next to a morgue automatically gets at least a three star rating from me for attitude, but this place actually was pretty good. We came around busy lunch time but still got quick and attentive service. The food was great and we even ran into a few friends so it must be pretty cool, right? The fiance and I decided to come here for lunch together during the work-day. The place was busy at lunch time, and the bar had many people drinking their lunches. We picked a corner-ish table and perused the menu. Our waitress, Jaime, was helpful in making out selections; Special of the day (French Dip) for the fiance and the brisket sandwich for me. Sodas were purchased and enjoyed with many a refill provided. Our meals came and we dug in with gusto since the fiance had to be back to work shortly. He proclaimed the French dip to be one of the best he's had and was pleased to find that it came with cheese on it. The brisket sandwich was a MONSTER portion of meat on a french roll, dripping with juices and covered in crispy-fried onions. As I brought the behemoth to my mouth, I questioned my resolve in biting into this massive stack of dripping meat and bread. I steeled myself and bit down on some of the most tender, juicy, flavorful brisket that my tongue has had the pleasure of savoring. Rays from heaven descended, choirs of seraphim sang from above and juice slipped down my hand and attempted to enter my sleeve. It was delicious to say the least. The fries appear to be hand cut and well cooked. Tartar looks and tastes home made. Salad leaves something to be desired. I also love the fact that their staff appears to be significantly female, tatted, pierced and rockabilly style. I recommend and will be going back! read more

This the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde of trendy cafès at present. The food is good (Dr), but the service I received both times was not good (Mr). I had the brisket omelette my first time there: delightful! What was lacking was coffee and water refills and the check, all of which I had to repeatedly request from a server who had three other open tickets while I was there. My logic for the dollar tip: you brought me my food. That's what you get paid by your employer to do. My contribution was a hint that if the service had been as good as the food, the tip left would've been a minimum of 15%. That's on top of the $14/hour servers make in Seattle. Second trip: Philly Cheesesteak. The steak pieces were over cooked and dry. Service was no better than the first time I was there. In the middle of the time I was eating, some server other than the one who deigned to take my order yanked the ketchup away from in front of me---which I was using---to give to someone else. Whatthehell?? Had to ask for refills of iced tea. Had to ask for the check. Was never asked if I liked the food, or if I needed or wanted anything else. Yet another bored and inattentive server at Hudson. $2.00 tip. I'll continue going to Hudson for the brisket omelette, and try other things on the menu, but until I get service that is worth a good tip, I'll continue leaving money commensurate with quality of customer care. By all means, Owner: let us order directly from the kitchen, and have them shout out our names when the food is ready for us to come back and pick up. It's far better service than we currently get at Hudson. Moving forward, I'll tip the people in the kitchen, and if they want to share with the disaffected server, that's their business. *For the record: I've waited tables before, both to get me through college and then professionally, so I know the job well. I'm literally halfway through my meal here right now and need to tell the world how amazing this chicken fried steak is. I came here solo on a whim, thinking I'd use their wifi to get some work done while I enjoy breakfast. I drive past Hudson all the time and keep meaning to try it out. While waiting for my food, I checked out the Yelp reviews and noticed a fair amount of negativity. So I feel I should balance that out by sharing my very good experience. My food was delivered promptly, piping hot. LOTS of food. The gravy is flavorful and slightly spicy. The crust on the steak is crispy. The biscuit is massive and decently tender. The Hudson keeps it real simple, you could order off the menu with a blindfold on and you couldn't go wrong. A relaxed, down to earth bar that will have you eating and loving foods you never thought you would even try. I never considered myself a catfish or cheesy, shrimp, eggs and grits kinda guy but I cant stay away from these Hudson classics. I have been here several times and tried many different things and have never been disappointed. Patty melts, breakfast burritos, Chicken skewers, a full espresso bar, and PATTY MELTS!!! I ate here this morning and was a bit disappointed in the quality and service. I'm vegetarian and specifically asked for veggie sausage in my Francesca scramble. When i received my food i took a bite and immediately knew it was NOT veggie. The restaurant is so dark that even trying to look at it beforehand was impossible to tell. I sent the food back and little apology was given; although i think i handled the situation pretty well without freaking out like a regular person would. Overall the eggs were slimy, toast was buttered without asking (lactose intolerant), and hashbrowns were freezer burnt.....but hey, its a bar. Would i come back here? It was about 9:30pm when I was craving a steak. I called and asked if we arrived within the next 10 minutes, could we still order from the kitchen... the friendly voice on the other end said, "Yes, absolutely. As long as you're in here before 10pm, you can order." And then, we magically appeared minutes later, drooling. Ok... I was drooling after reading about the Ranchero Steak. Done. Yep... That's what I want. Medium, please and thank you. My boyfriend got an assortment of goodies: the HUmmus Plate, a side salad and some cheesey-gooey fries that smelled amazing! Now, if you're into sports like we are (right in the middle of March Madness), don't go here unless your team isn't playing... They have no TVs and no radio. Just some cool music and good atmosphere for conversation. They have a great full bar with beer on tap (we like a good IPA and they had one), as well as bottles and mixed cocktails that looked pretty delightful. I will need to check those out another time. Our food looked really good, and there was plenty of it. You're definitely getting a great amount of food for the prices you pay. That should be a draw for people coming by. I must say... My steak was cooked to perfection, well seasoned and covered in sauteed mushrooms and onions. Whomever was cooking in the kitchen that night, we told our server to let him know we give him a big thumbs up (a suggestion for other yelpers to consider, in case different kitchen staff cook differently and maybe better than others). The mashed potatoes are also fantastic. I love a chunky, home-style mashed potato with good seasoning and a touch of sour cream. I'm not a fan of the creamy, no lumps style, liken to baby food (blegh!). And the bunch of asparagus I got were spicy and nicely done. I ate every bite of steak and my asparagus, leaving a little bit of the mashed potatoes to bring home for breakfast the next morning. My boyfriend, the light eater he is, ate a small amount of all his dishes and boxed the rest to take home. It was all eaten the next day. Went here for Sunday brunch with a small group. The service and food was good, enjoyed the unique menu items. The only real negative is how bizarrely dirty the restaurant is. This isn't even the sort of thing I normally notice, but the floors, walls, and every little corner and crease in this place appears to have months of accumulated grime. I went back for lunch yesterday & today. I had the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado and tomato) sandwich which was served on toasted 8 grain bread, VERY TASTY. Also had the potato and leek soup, which was served hot or cold (i had it hot), It was good as well. Today I tried the french dip sandwich. They roast their own beef for this. Good food, I love the variety. The place does get noisy so don't expect an intimate time (especially at lunch). My brother had the fried oysters.... dang those were good! He also had the cheese steak with fries (home cut ++) and my friend had the club sandwich. They both looked great! Myself, since I'm on the chunky side and just resumed my diet had to settle for the Cobb salad which was presented well with blue cheese, bacon, chicken and egg. The only thing lacking was the dressing, don't be chinsey on the dressing! All in all it was a good meal and the only thing holding back the 4th star was the portion to price ratio. We brought a large group for Sunday brunch and they were very accommodating! Set us up with a big table and brought everyone separate checks- awesome! Our server was super sweet and was on top of the coffee refills. They also let us hang out and that was really appreciated. It is really hard to get good service in a large group, so if you need a place for a group meal- I would recommend Hudson! I arrived late, so got my food to-go. It was perfectly good breakfast food- nothing special, but tasty. I ordered pancakes and was bummed when I got home and there was no maple syrup in the box. Morning work breakfast at the Hudson. Classis little joint in the heart of the industrial SODO. Everyone ordered a different omelet including mine, the salmon omelet. The service was good. The atmosphere is mellow and relaxed with a nostalgic feeling to it. Enjoyed the apple cyder as well. The toast was bad. I dont know why its even offered because there wasnt anything left from the omelet. I highly recommend the salmon omelet. great flavors and a true Seattle delight. Ill come back. After driving by Hudson for years, I finally went here with my wife. She likes going here after work with her work friend. So we hit it up for breakfast on Saturday morning. We timed it right as far as the crowd goes. Right after we sat down a huge crowd of people came through the door. The staff was really great there as well. Served us drinks and then took our order after we were ready. I had a coffee brandy drink that was okay, I think the coffee was a little odd tasting. I love this place! I ordered the bacon cheese fries and was expecting the typical tiny bacon bits and sad, melted cheese. Nope. The bacon came out in awesome, large chunks. The cheese sauce was a cheesy bechamel unlike any sauce I've had before. The fries? Perfect. Really sweet interior. The round bar is really fun. Oh Hudson, how I wanted to love you so. I love your sister Smarty Pants with all my heart. But you let me down a bit little bro. The atmosphere is nice, reclaimed wood tables, mix and match plates from back in the day, dark sleek horseshoe bar, a small joint. We came in for dinner on a Wednesday, sat at the bar and at one point were the only two people in there. The bartender was great, really attentive and nice. He knew some local history as well. The morgue next door is fake (prepping for the KUBE 93 Haunted House) but across the street is where the real morgue was back in the 30's for immigrants. I got the mac n' cheese which I was really excited about but it was too garlicky and not that impressive. The bf got a sandwich that came with onions even though he ordered it without. He tried to pick them out but it didn't work. They were sorry and gracious about bringing a replacement. I guess I would recommend Hudson as a bar, it has a neighborhood drinking joint vibe, and if you accept the cuisine as "bar food" it's pretty reasonable. So, I'm not going out of my way to go back to you Hudson, if you'd don't see me for a while check your sister, Smarty Pants' house. read more

When I'm craving shrimp and grits, this is my go-to place. That being said, I've been swayed by the deep fried French toast more than a few times. They also make a really great Bloody Mary. They serve them with a side of Miller High Life, which I just don't quite get. I guess I'm not a fan of the whole beer-tomato juice thing, but looking around the place today at brunch, it seems that lots of people are! Great chicken-fried steak! Seriously, I love this city but it's impossible to get a good CFS. People around here think CFS is a frozen, breaded hamburger patty that's been deep-fried and slathered with greasy gravy. Untrue, my friends... A good CFS is a cut of decent meat, preferably cube steak, that's been beaten into submission, egged or floured or both, and either fried or deep-fried. THEN you slather it with greasy gravy. Hudson's gravy isn't greasy, it's appropriately thick and tasty and appropriately complements the nice cut of steak that's been tenderized and fried just right to accompany the eggs, potatoes and toast, side of bacon, coffee and OJ that made for a really good breakfast. read more

Disclaimer: The wifey and I ate there the first weekend it was open, so everything or nothing may be the same once they hit their stride. That's the definition of YMMV, I suppose. The place had a really hipster feel for such a blue-collar area, which was a bit of a cool surprise. The crowd was eclectic, and it felt like most of the customers knew someone who was serving or bartending. I'm betting that'll change as word spreads though. Awesome (and spicy!) Bloody Marys, and my pulled pork omelet was one of the best things I've eaten recently. Wifey had something vegetabley, but since it couldn't hold a candle to my omelet, I didn't really pay attention. They smoke the pork in-house, and our server said they're going to be making as much of their stuff in-house as possible. The prices were a bit more than I thought they'd be ($9.75 for the omelet), but not unreasonable for the quality and service. Parking is on the street or in their small lot. I almost lost my car in the potholes in their parking lot, so I'd recommend the street. read more

We're always in search of a new breakfast place near West Seattle (need to branch out from Chelan Cafe!) and I've driven by Hudson numerous times, each time promising to try it out. Finally made it happen. We went 2 weekends ago with friends. Seated right away, very friendly staff. The menu was excellent. 2 orders of breakfast taco's, 1 brisket omelet (me) & something else that escapes me. I was too focused on my meal. It was great. Nice size, not too huge. My only complaint with breakfast was that the coffee service was slow. But I need a lot of coffee in the am so... We also missed the fact that it's a bar so 21 & older. So when we showed up with our 18 yr old daughter, we had to come up with plan B. Regardless, we'll absolutely come back & try breakfast with a side of Bloody Mary's! read more

The atmosphere here is that of a dive bar. The smell of stale beer hits you as you walk in. Aside from that, this place ROCKS!! The food is incredible, the prices are reasonable, and the service is with s smile. A great Brunch menu and many local beers on tap. If you haven't been to Hudsons you are missing out.!! read more

Stopped by today for breakfast and it was delicious!! I'm a vegetarian and I was a little skeptical at first because I thought they wouldn't have many options BUT I was wrong. The Hudson allows you to substitute and breakfast meat for the vegetarian sausage (Morning Star) for FREE. I thought that was pretty sweet because every other breakfast spot I've been to charges for veggie meat so kudos to The Hudson. Today I had a 1/2 order of biscuits and gravy w/ a pancake on the side. Even w/ the 1/2 order I wasn't able to finish everything so even more kudos to The Hudson for the large portion sizes! The only reason I didn't give the 5 stars is because the parking situation is a little weird. I have a F150 extended cabin and parking was a bit tricky. I saw places that I "thought" I could park but the area is pretty industrial so I wasn't sure what was private property and what wasn't. In short, if you're lookin for good eats this place is it!! Oh and the establishment is 21 and over too. No kids allowed but my waitress did say they have another restaurant in Burien that's for the families.. read more

We visited Hudson last night. It was our first time, but it will not be our last time. First, my lime margarita was outstanding. It was obvious that they didn't use commercial mix. It tasted fresh and limey, not bitter or salty. When our food orders came, the portions were HUGE! I had the brisket with mashers and green beans. It was out of this world! They served 2 generous portions of meat that was fork tender and flavorful, not over spiced, and covered with onion. The green beans were garden fresh, not warmed over canned. But, oh those mashers! They weren't whipped, they were mashed, with small potato pieces in them. They were perfect! Seriously, I could have ordered another serving! The food was so good that I cleaned my plate! Call me a regular... I had come to Hudson for brunch a few weeks back and like the rest of reviewers adored the pulled pork omelet! My dining partner also loved his chicken fried steak. The bloody Mary's were a perfect blend of spice, tomato sweetness and lime. We weren't going to be running any marathons after such a hearty meal so we also had a beermosa. OJ and beer! Beer! for breakfast! I came back after work this week and tried the blackend catfish. It was perfectly seasoned and came with grits and greens. It was great to see some fish on a menu in Seattle that wasn't halibut with a side of salmon. I wanted something yummy but not beer to wash down the spice but couldn't decide what to order. My friendly but not overbearing bartender asked what I was thinking. When I told him I was thinking citrus, sparkly not too sweet, surprise me.. he made me up the perfect cocktail. Tart, interesting and cold! What strikes me about Hudson is it seems like it has been there forever yet feels completely fresh. Like a classic diner out of a modern road trip film. I enjoyed the mix of business types and working class folks also the friendly but not phony service. Relaxed but not daft. Real people enjoying honest portions of good food. I drive by this place all the time and it was recomended to me by two palates I trust. Meh is about all I can say. My BF and I went there for breakfast on a Monday and while the place was not full, it took a fairly long time to get the waitress to notice us. I had the breakfast tacos, which were ok but not as yummy as the ones I make at home. My BF had the pulled pork omlet and he enjoyed it. I guess my main complaint was the lack of service. I got my coffee topped off once (before I had drank more than a third of the cup) and then was not asked again until we had already paid our bill and were getting up to leave. The waitress took our empty plates but then left us alone for another 15 minutes before bringing us our bill. If the place was slammed, I would have been more generous, but as it was, the experience does not lead me to recommend the place or return to it myself. read more

A.O.K, GREAT breakfast, fun servers, kitchen knows what they are doing, Gracias. Cafe Umbria coffee is nice and strong. Like the garage look and feel with the large windows. Decor is darker and modern. Nice music system and tunes. Reminds me of the "Easy Street" crowd up at the junction in W. Seattle (with lower volume music) or some Capitol Hill folks made the trek down to this corner of town. Not super easy to find, but worth it. A nice addition to the edge of an industrial area. I think this is SODO although it is close to Georgetown. THANK YOU FOR NO KIDS, we like our friends kids a lot, but it is a nice break to come here. I like a place that serves bloody mary's and if you are a little hung over you do not have the screeching of little ones running around (and the parents disciplining them, and crying, etc.) It is just too chaotic for us, and we are not accustomed to the high stimulation of young families. Will definitely come back for Happy Hour, I am not crazy about Miller but $1. is a good draw, saw Manny's on tap and looking forward to some. Service was good but slow to check out. A great greasy spoon small diner. The beers on tap are limited and the food selection is a bit limited but the food they have taste great. I usually get the Portabello Philly and cut fries which are pretty good. I've never gone on the weekend but I'm sure if your just out and about in Georgetown its a great place to visit. read more
