I haven't been to a Korean spa in a decade. I went here with my sister and this was her first time experiencing the Korean beauty spa. It is a family owned and women's only spa. It is a sanctuary amidst the hustle bustle of Los Angeles in Korea town and safely located across from the police station. A plus parking is free in the plaza downstairs. The moment you enter you are greeted by the friendly office manager and you meet store owner Eunice. The hospitality is felt immediately. You are issued a locker and towels with a cute pink robe. You cannot wear bathing suits or shoes, but the robe is what you wear and the spa is so clean and smells amazing inside. They have various rooms such as charcoal clay sauna, infrared sauna, steam room, Himalayan salt room, Himalayan salt bath, cold room, oxygen room, mugwort tea bath where you pour the basin of mugwort tea and drench it over your body in a seated shower section. Mugwort tes smells earthy and helps with skin issues. You can do a body scrub to exfoliate your dead skin and your skin will be amazingly soft and dewy. They use a scrubbing mitten and you can request gentler scrubbing versus a new mitt which will be more firm exfoliating scrub. The massage is 1 hour long and extremely relaxing. You can choose green tea or collagen milk for your massage. The collagen milk left my skin so dewy and soft. In the end they wrap your hair into a cute bun atop your head and wrapped in a cute pink towel. The V steam is something new I never heard of before and tried for first time. You are in a private room and sit on a cushion seat with an circular opening and beneath are herbs heated and you wear a cute cloth robe to absorb the steam over your privates hence V stream -- benefits with cramping, hormones, constipation, fertility, etc They offer a biscuit and tea while you stay in treatment x 30 minutes. If it gets too hot you lift the robe upward and it is cooler for your body. There is an area for food that opens at noon. The menu is a variety like Bimbibap or ginseng chicken soup and more. I will definitely come back to try this eating area. Every room is meticulously designed, clean and relaxing. I felt pampered here and can't wait to return. They do not allow photos otherwise you just have to visit here and experience it for yourself. read more

I was really looking forward to relaxing, but unfortunately this was one of the least enjoyable spa experiences I've had. From the moment my treatment began, the body scrub attendant's demeanor felt cold and unwelcoming. Her tone of voice came across as harsh, and when she spoke to me, it was loud enough that other guests looked over. Since everyone is undressed during these treatments, that made me feel especially uncomfortable and vulnerable. The body scrub itself was much rougher than I expected. I wasn't asked whether the water temperature was comfortable, and the pressure felt unnecessarily aggressive rather than relaxing. I left feeling more sore than refreshed, which isn't what I expect from a spa treatment. This was also the second month in a row that I was assigned to the same body scrub attendant, even though I've never had her before and had always been treated by someone else in the usual wet room. It struck me as unusual, especially since I had previously noticed her speaking very harshly to other staff members. I'm sharing this feedback in the hope that it's taken constructively. It was my first time visiting this location. Upon arrival, one of the staff members explained what to expect during the experience, although I would have appreciated a more detailed explanation of the different rooms and their benefits. She did let me know that guests have access to enjoy the available rooms during their visit. The interior design was very cute and visually appealing, with lots of mirrors throughout the space. Filming is not allowed, which is understandable given the privacy of other guests. I purchased the $150 package, which included 90 minutes total: 30 minutes of exfoliation followed by a 60-minute massage. The package also included a hair wash and a face mask. The massage was definitely not gentle, but they did an excellent job working out tension and knots. I especially enjoyed the stomach massage portion, which was surprisingly relaxing. The only negative aspect of my visit was that, at times during the massage, I noticed a slight odor that seemed to be coming from the drains or water system. Fortunately, it was only occasional and did not affect the entire experience. My 1.5 hour massage honestly felt like 2 hours in the best way possible because I was so relaxed and immersed in the experience. My skin felt incredibly soft and rejuvenated afterward. I especially loved the hot honey milk she poured and massaged into my body. It felt absolutely amazing and made the experience feel extra luxurious and calming. I've been to many Korean spas. I prefer women only places and the service here is so much better than other places. I purchased the glow booster massage and added on lymphatic drainage. I was literally told I was 'glowing' after going here. I went in feeling tired and tight and left feeling relaxed and soft. I went on a Tuesday afternoon so it wasn't very busy. I took my time showering and using the steam room and mugwort tea and salt bath before my treatment. I had Kathy, she had very strong hands which is what I needed! But she checked in on me frequently to make sure it wasn't too much. I didn't have time for the salt sauna or infrared sauna but both were clean and well maintained. Full disclosure: if you're not comfortable with nudity. Or you want a more chill/ clothed massage this is not the place for you. If you're serious about body and skin care and you respect the spa etiquette, this place is a dream! Tip is not included in the price but Kathy more than earned her tip. This was my first time at a Korean Spa, and I was absolutely BLOWN away. For only $125 (The Purification), I had the most mind blowing scrub & massage. TMI -- there was literally dead skin all over the table after the scrub -- I felt like I had shed the 1st layer of my skin! I couldn't stop feeling how soft I was afterwards! Not only was the massage amazing, but they also included a mini facial and hair wash! Whaaaat?! Afterwards I had hot barley tea and tofu soup at their restaurant, which was yummy. In terms of the amenities, honestly I felt like all the rooms were relatively the same, just with different themes, so next time around I'll probably give myself 30 minutes to use them. My favorite amenities were definitely the hot tub & steam room (which you should use before your treatment to open up your pores). Keep in mind, Hugh Spa is an authentic Korean spa. I had the absolute best time at this spa! It was my first time visiting a Korean spa, so I was super excited to spend the day here with my friend. We ended up exploring all the different rooms for about an hour before our scrub/massage appointments. Honestly, I could have spent even longer just wandering around and def will allocate more time next time. The salt room was definitely my favorite, it was very relaxing and calming. The clay room was a close second, and the sauna was an awesome way to open up our pores before the scrubs. When it was our turn for the body scrubs, they separated us into different rooms. The scrub itself was very thorough, not a single inch of skin was left untouched lol. There was a lot of body folding and moving around (and the table does get slippery!), but my scrub technician was always making sure I was balanced and comfortable before adjusting me. After the scrub, she rinsed off all the dead skin and gave me a wonderful massage using honey oil. I left feeling completely renewed, fresh, and at peace. I recently went to Hugh Spa and got the 30-minute Korean body scrub and 60-minute massage, and honestly it was one of the best treatments I've ever had and I get massages pretty regularly. The woman doing my treatment (unfortunately didn't catch her name) was amazing and the overall experience was incredible. Before my scrub, I spent about 30 minutes in the steam sauna, which I'd definitely recommend because it helps prep your skin and gives you the best results from the scrub. The body scrub itself was definitely an experience. If it's your first time, don't go in expecting it to be super relaxing because it's pretty intense and certain parts can feel rougher than others. But the results are absolutely worth it. My skin has honestly never felt so smooth and soft. All of the dry, dead skin was completely gone afterward and my skin felt unbelievably clean, hydrated, and refreshed. The spa itself is a little smaller than some of the other Korean spas I've been to, but it was still very clean, nice, and had all the essentials like the sauna, Himalayan salt room, and other relaxation rooms. Spa entry is included with your treatment purchase, and you could honestly spend the whole day there if you wanted to. There's also a traditional Korean kitchen inside that had really good food. Even though it's a smaller place, the variety of rooms is incredible: they have Jade, Charcoal, Infrared Magnet, Himalayan Salt, Ice, and Oxygen rooms, plus a Tea bath and Salt bath. The place is impeccably clean--seriously, bring socks and you might feel like you could ice skate across the floor! ​We treated ourselves to the body scrub and a massage, and it was so relaxing. Just remember to book your services ahead of time (they ask for a credit card to hold the spot). They also have a cute cafe, but note that it's only open Friday through Sunday. ​Pro Tip for Parking: They have a small lot, but if you're staying for the spa, aim for the spots closer to the street curb. I came here for a girls day with a friend after contemplating it for months! I'm so glad I chose Hugh Spa - it was absolutely an experience! My main concern going in was having to shower in front of other people, but when I saw how free everyone was I got a sense of comfort and did my thing. I cannot even begin to explain how lovely it felt after showering and rinsing off with the mugwort tea! Afterwards, we hit up each room starting off first with the sauna, then the ice room for a little contrast therapy. And that was our pattern thru ought - the clay room, then the ice room, salt room, ice room lastly the infrared room and of course the ice room to end it with a bang! The receptionist was extremely kind and the ladies thru out the spa were also kind and helpful. I was looking for a Korean Spa in LA and found a lot with mixed reviews. Hugh Spa seemed to have better ratings. I've only been to one other Korean Spa and they are similar in that you are thoroughly scrubbed by a middle aged Korean woman! They don't have online booking but they do post their prices online. I called and made an appointment and they didn't even need any credit card information. I chose their Summer Gem Ritual which consisted of 90 minutes Gem of the Earth (scrub and massage), 15 min of either lymph, hand, or scalp massage, and a collagen mask, for $205. This was such a good deal! My body was scrubbed so hard and I saw all my dead skin. It also consisted of a hair wash. When you check in, they will give you a locker key, a large towel, a smaller towel, and a robe. You also receive a scrubbing towel if you are getting a wet treatment like I did. When you reach the glass doors, you have to take off your shoes. Go to your assigned lockers and undress completely and put on the robe. No swimsuits and shoes allowed inside. They have most of the rooms labeled with steps. Step 1 is to shower. You grab a white basket just outside the shower room and put your towels in it and carry it around. In the shower room, there is an also a hot tub as well as a shallow tub filled with tea water. You can use the tea water to pour over your body for detox. Step 2-5 consists of different rooms - steam, clay rooms, and infrared heat. My favorite was this clay room where it's a bunch of clay rocks with a mat on top for you to lie down on. It was so relaxing. There are also rooms for in-between rooms or services - oxygen and ice rooms. They have a small cafe for food that wasn't open when I came. But they have hot barley tea available for self service. My criticisms: They are missing small amenities like hair ties and clean or disposable combs/brushes. Also would be nice to have sunscreen. And my masseuse/scrubber massaged my chest more than what was needed. It was a very thorough scrub and a true full body massage, but really not necessary to massage my breasts. The mineral bath is very soothing and the jade steam room is wonderful. The salt, infrared, clay and oxygen rooms are fantastic and you can cool off in the ice room in between. Tip! First time here and got the Purification spa service, which is a scrub and massage combo. For 70 minutes, I was pampered with an amazing body scrub, massage, facial, and even had my hair washed with a gentle head massage! You are in a room with other people, but you just forget about it once your treatment starts. Best scrub I've had in a long time! I also tried the vsteam which is an extra $40 - it was an experience but worth it. I did sweat and my stomach and lower body area felt so much better after. The spa is small but it wasn't too crowded when I went, so I was able to enjoy the other rooms without waiting. The Himalayan salt room and oxygen rooms were my favorites. I didn't try the cafe, but the food looked delicious! My only suggestion is to bring some disposable slippers as you have to walk barefoot. I will definitely go back! Its with a heavy heart I write this review. I used to love this place. However, This is the second time I feel the service's were not up to rate charged or kindly requested upon check-in. Today i spent about $300 on a gold slimming wrap package and it was 100% not worth it. Same experience as last time and i had high hopes it was a one off. Nope. When I arrived i asked that the person checking me in if they could please focus on my belly and thighs bc im losing weight and need the attention there. I am by no means overweight but I try to keep my skin looking good. The desk folks acknowledged that request. My scrub was ok and took less than 30 minutes. That should have left about 1.5 hours for the wrap, mask and massage. That part was slightly shorter at an hour and 20mins but what didn't happen is what I requested-she primarily focused on my back even when i asked her directly to please work on my legs and belly. I got a 3 minute per leg/glute oil massage and a quick two minute belly massage. Im so upset that my reasonable request ignored. Twice. And i paid a lot of hard earned money on top of it. Id be better off at a local massage place for a quarter of the cost. The wrap was OK but when i first started getting them about a decade ago, they were way better in terms of length of time you were cocooned in the warm blankets with the solution and they used to wrap your belly and thoroughly massage your limbs and belly afterward to ensure you got the full diuretic effect and sign tightening. She worked 80% on my back. All the while you can hear every customer being checked in less than 20 feet away and when they walked me to the room in my robe and nothing else there was a guy sitting on the entry couch talking on the phone. Say what?! So no peace or quiet, no decency or privacy at a women's spa, no attention to customer satisfaction or requests and no respect for long term customers or our money. WTH. Wow. I came in last night really a bit nervous for my first body scrub and Diane was so kind and caring. I felt well taken care of and felt so relaxed upon leaving. My skin feels so soft and healthy. I wish I arrived earlier as I'd have stayed longer and I do wish I came on the weekend to try the restaurant out. Very clean, great amenities and I loved that it was small and women only. This is my first time and I did not get a walk through, like most massage places do, the receptionist charged my credit card, gave me a towel, a robe, and a key, with a number attached, said they would call my number when ready and pointed down the hall for me to go "that way", and take off my shoes before entering the locker area. I wish they would have provided slippers for us, but oh well. ‍. They did have a very nice lady, Luna, sweeping the floors constantly. Inside the locker room there were many rooms for you to use and a description of what it can do for your body. The cold room, the salt room, the clean air room, infrared magnet room, mud room, wormwood healing room, saunas, steam rooms, you name it! They even have the steam vaginal room, (I have to try that one day ) I got the 75min deep tissue massage today with Jennifer. Jennifer was great! Strong! She got in there, but don't expect her to be gentle, she strictly gets the job done! I definitely will come back. This was my second visit here and we came early Friday morning. No parking attendant at this hour but there was also minimal street vendors outside at this time. We only made our appts for scrubs over the phone but when we arrived, my sister and I were interested in trying out one of their massages. They were able to accommodate day of and was able to get us in for our scrubs earlier. Massages follow immediately after the scrub. Scrub - I didn't get the hot milky oil splash at the end this time, I thought maybe it's because I'm going to the dry massage immediately after and perhaps the oil would not be good for lying on the dry bed. However, I learned that no one in my group got the Milky oil splash... Not sure if this was a standard or not just that last time we went, that milky oil left a lasting impression on me... It left my body glowing! Deep tissue massage - I was pretty disappointed to the point where I was thinking... Is it almost over yet? Definitely not a deep tissue massage in the traditional way. It was at Best, an elevated foot massage? Like the full body massages you'd expect at those Chinese for massage parlor. The spa bed was nice and soft but I did notice the linens weren't all white. Not sure if it's stains or just used? There was a heating pad under, but I was already very warm so I asked them to turn mine off. I can see this being very nice if you were cramping. Also, because it was immediately after the scrub, do use the restroom or get a drink of water before hand if you can! I needed the restroom and was felt so dehydrated during mine that could've also contributed to the anxiousness of wanting the massage to be over. I would only come here for the scrubs and spa amenities. Pass on the massages. Food is always very comforting! If you are in a hurry, pick a food item on the middle row. One of the receptionists who I booked my appt with on the phone and who checked me in was super nice. The one when I was leaving was alright, not overly nice. The place is super clean and they seem like they're constantly maintaining it, which is great. You take your shoes off once you leave the reception area. I did see two women who had put their shoes next to them at the area with mirrors, blow dryers, lotion, etc. I wish they would enforce not having any shoes down on the floor in that area because not really fair for the rest of us walking around barefoot. They show you to your locker and you put your stuff in there and fully undress and put on there cute pink robes. You can explore the diff rooms (Himalayan salt, near infared magnetic, clay, jade steam, etc) before or after your appointments depending on when you get there. They suggest you arrive 15-30 mins before the appt so you can check in and settle in. There's food you can order but looks like only on weekends. I went on a Wednesday and had called to request an appointment for a massage and facial. They were able to book me for a couple hours later. I got a 60 min Swedish massage. They massage you with a sheet covering your body for the first half and then oil massage without the sheet for second half. I would've preferred oil massage the whole time, so I'm glad I know for next time. The 60 min hydrating facial was nice and relaxing. The esthetician would spread stuff on my face then use tools to massage it around, sometimes with the steam machine on. I was so relaxed / didn't get enough sleep the previous night so fell asleep lolol. When I woke up there was a mask fully on my face. Not sure how long that portion is. I think I'd go back and try to facial that has milk and honey. The rooms were cool to go in as I'd never been to a jjimjilbang before. You have to be naked for the shower room which includes the hot mineral tub, an area where you can pour mugwort water on yourself, and the scrubs. But otherwise, the remaining rooms you wear your robe. There's free parking in the lot. They don't offer a birthday discount. Worth a shot asking though heh. I believe Queen Bee in Culver City gives you 10% off for your birthday month. read more

Every time I visit Hugh Spa, I remind myself how much I really enjoy visiting this place and how I should come at least once a month. Fast forward a year later and Its on my New Years resolution list. LOL guess it's better than nothing. Come on a week day, if you can - ample parking and no one around. Bring a book or something to keep you occupied and get your monies worth stay longer than 2-3 hours and do yourself a favor and get a wet massage! Nothing has changed, the customer service superb, always clean and when I come pretty quiet - except the newbies that love chatting it up like you're not at a spa. What a great Spa. I came here for my birthday which was in January. I received the best massage and facial. The customer service was excellent. This is a "women"only spa. If men want to use the spa they can receive a service (massage, facial, etc) and not enjoy the amenities of the spa such as: saunas, showers, clay rooms, ice rooms, etc. I love that it's women only. Upon entering, you receive a robe, locker number with locker key and towel. You must take your shoes off prior to walking into the spa area. Inside the spa, you have several lockers, a vanity mirror with all of your necessities (bring your special necessities), showers, saunas, spa rooms, food/eating area, v-steam and sitting area. My daughter and I like to come early so we can feel relaxed all day. Every room offer something different. You can read about the benefits of each room on the outside of each room. My favorite room is the clay ball room. I've fallen asleep in that room a few times. The clay balls are detoxifying. I also like the ice room. Side note: Although I like the "shoes off" policy, I think providing new "nail shop like" sandals will be an excellent option or a fee to add-on. Some parts of the floor be wet after people come out of the shower so it would be nice to have a sandal option. I will also admit the ladies that work there are constantly cleaning this place. My daughter's choice to come here. I'm not from LA. Visiting from Seattle. We bought the general spa which include clay room, cold room, steam room, salt room, oxygen room, and mineral bath and tea water for body. Water cups and barley tea included. The front desk person was nice nd friendly. Gave us a key for the locker with bath towel, robe, and hand towel. Bodywash, shampoo, and conditioner included. No outside shoes in the locker room-need to carry it in and bare foot throughout the spa. I work in health care so this kind of gross me out. I didn't use the mineral and salt bath because of the same concern of germs. It did not look like it was filtering water or chlorine. I used my hand towel to sit in the steam and ice room. I wore my robe in each room except for steam room I entered all the rooms, except for the oxygen room. We were there for 3 hours. Used each room twice and ice room whenever we got to hot. Showered and got ready for dinner there. Brought our own face mask to use at the end. Parking free. It's busy lot with a parking attendant that was helpful. There was a lady with mental health issues talking to self and yelling by the stairs that we took to second floor where the spa was Despite my concern of going barefoot and germs. The spa appeared clean and kept tidy. There was a person constantly wiping, emptying laundry baskets, sweeping and cleaning which put my mind at ease. My daughter who lives in LA has been there before and told me that these were one of the cleaner Korean spas. read more

This place is ELITE! I drive here from Utah or Oregon (based in both) just to come here!! I wish I could keep it my little secret but it's just toooo good to not share! I've been 3 times so far and it's been my absolute favorite act of self careI always get at least the Korean body scrub and I must say, their pricing is unbelievable for the quality of the services as well the beautiful space. 10/10 recommend!! read more

After having some really crappy experiences at some Korean spas, I decided to take someone's advice and try this place. I can understand why she recommended it. first and for most as a larger woman, They actually gave me something that fits and that is a huge bonus. It's really hard to go to places as a bigger person and have them give you tiny little clothes that you have to wear. I'm not having a service. I'm just using the wet room and taking a shower on my own but everything is very nice and clean. People are friendly. It is a smaller spa and there's only one hot tub that fits about four people they have mug wart pool that you can scoop mug wart out and put it on your body. Did I mention they have a parking lot with free parking and that it's only $30 to use the spa. That is a steal. I'll be back for sure. read more

This spa has declined significantly over the years. After visiting for over 8 years, I've noticed a lack of spa etiquette among recent visitors, which has negatively impacted the atmosphere. In the past 6 months alone: -I've seen several women FaceTiming in the locker room, including one spreading her legs open and exposing her genitalia to the person on camera. -Another woman was FaceTiming a man in a room where others were changing and some fully NUDE, I knew the call was with a male because her conversation was on speaker at full volume. -Hair wads are left in dressing rooms, and towels and baskets pile up, creating clutter. (Apparently no one uses the baskets or trash labeled for these things.) -There are now women who arrive in friend groups only to treat the spa like a café, having loud conversations and disrupting the calm ambiance. -Some people wear underwear in the wet sauna, others sit directly on the surfaces, without robes or towels,which is extremely unhygienic and a breeding ground for bacteria. This lack of basic cleanliness is unacceptable in a spa setting. It seems social media has attracted a crowd that doesn't respect the spa's purpose. As a small spa, it's now overcrowded, with people packed into rooms, speaking loudly and ruining the peaceful environment. You're practically elbow to elbow with these kind of people. read more
