We ordered Hughesnet when we moved to a neighborhood that had no other options for internet service. Yes, I signed a 2 year contract for their 'Screaming Fast' internet, they said my kids would be able to game online with a slight half second delay. $79 per month for 20 gigs, then it slows down after the 20G is used up to a supposedly usable speed. Of course we are modern humans and enjoy internet to stream movies, do homework, work, etc.... So, I am admittedly a dummy about much far a gig goes. But I sure learned!!! We had useable internet for 5 days out of our monthly billing cycle, AT THE MOST!!!! That's when we weren't home! The shortest amount was 1 minute....yep, our PlayStation updated itself at 12 midnight and used it all up for immediately! I worked with them to try to adjust our devices and Netflix settings....we just couldn't make it work. Once the 20 gigs is used up, it's completely worthless....internet browser times out before loading. But I kept this crappy expensive service for a year, until hard financial times hit and we just could not justify it any longer, plus moving to an area with legit internet. Do you think they would waive the cancellation fee? Even after I communicated along the way that this service was not as advertised? And we were falling into financial ruin?! Nope! They automatically charged my credit card $268 and they won't even come take their horrible dish off my house! In fact, I had to climb up there to dismantle some part that they wanted sent back! (Or they'd charge me $300 more dollars). They said I could hire someone to take it down if I wasn't comfortable 20 feet up on a lThey have my credit card number. This company has no soul. Simply awful. Absolutely the worst service I was ever suckered into. Expect dial-up speed. Streaming is nearly impossible because the system just is antiquated and unable to deliver. When you complain they'll send the "fixer" who is a fast talking schmoozer who paints a totally different picture. On top of their charges, they try to sell you "extra bandwidth" which did not help. It's another way to shake money out of you. Also expect to get roped into a 2 year mandatory contract. Once you sign on it's game over. Don't get Hughes.net. They promise you 5g service but it buffers every other minute. Their customer service support is non existent (866-347-3292) they put you on hold for a long time. Their technical support group tries to help and makes promises (like we will refund the last 3 weeks) and will send a technician out but the bottom line is the satellite just doesn't work in the foothills. When you cancel within 30 days they still charge your credit card ($150) despite the fact you didnt receive service. I've been on the phone with customer service reps from another country, when they reach the end of their spiel they just hang up in you. They want you to stop trying and it's frustrating so you end up losing money and your time. Go with Zeta Broadband or Cal.net anyone but Hughes.net or you'll be so sorry.....Zeta rocks! read more

Bad internet service, horrible customer service and charges your credit card without authorization. Has hidden fees and poor communication. Uses vendors to I stall and never mentions that you have to pay the vendors separately on site. Customer service does nothing to resolve problems and just continues to apologize for the inconvenience. Would not recommend at all. Service never worked correctly, never received any bill but they auto charged my card without approval. They have a $500 cancelation fee they never mention when signing up . I got hughesnet on the 5the of December horrible service, I contacted them numerous times they charge $400 to cancel smh CRAZY!!! However, I finally reached a cool guy in the phillipines and he kept trying to get my service back up and it wasn't working, so he waived my cancellation fee and they refunded my money back! I only contacted Hugh to see if he could check my satellite dish alignment. He spent 15 minutes with me on the phone helping me check my signal strength of my satellite from home for free. It was awful from the get go I tried calling him and he would never respond. Really bad customer service! I called the 800 number I tried to cancel and was informed that I was in a 2 year contract. Jeff tricked me into a contract when I specifically asked to not be in contract. The customer service people kept me on the phone for literally HOURS over the last 2 years "trying" to recalibrate and "fix" the slow to non existent service! I'm soooo glad to be done with them! Service does not work half of the time. When it does work service goes in and out. You will not be watching any videos and even if you're just trying to send an email don't count on that working either. They have high costs and hidden fees and even if you can prove their service doesn't work they will not let you cancel. And last but not least they have the most condescending, nasty and rude customer service I have ever dealt with in my entire life! After 2.5 years of overpaying for this horrible Internet service as a back up to my hot spot, they permanently shut down my account saying I illegally downloaded movies. I wouldn't know how to download an illegal movie to save my life. Didn't even have the TV on the night they said I was watching Fast and Furious. HughesNet sucks. Internet is slow and they charge so much for it. They are money hungry. Can't cancel it without a $400 termination fee. 2 years contract is ridiculous. People from there aren't any help. They suck and just trying to get your money. They will try to offer you promotion but don't tell you it's a whole new contract again. When you ask for help with the connection they will try to do something at their end and say it's working fine but it still won't work at your end. I've only had HughesNet and Dish Network for two and a half weeks and I'm very disappointed in customer service from both companies. Dish Network, who referred me to Hughes Net, did the installation of both satellite dishes. Dish mounted their satellite dish under the eaves of my home but installed the HughesNet dish on the side of my home into the stucco. HughesNet Satellite service was horrible! 50% of the time internet was not even available and I had to use my 4 G's for service. When I was connected to HughesNet, the lag time to load a page, video, or picture was awful. I spent over 3 hours, over three days, trying to straighten it out. HughesNet did replace the modem, but to no avail. Since I've only been a customer for 2-1/2 weeks, they finally let me terminate the contract with no fees due. However, they refuse to remove the satellite dish from the side of my home. Stay clear of HughesNet! I've never seen anyone mount a dish on the side of the house in the stucco. When Dish Network installed both dishes, they mounted their dish under the eaves of my home like everyone else's. There is no excuse for this! Now I am left with no internet service, an ugly eyesore, and a damaged wall. All I asked for was for them to remove the dish and repair my wall. NO, NO, NO TO HUGHESNET!!! read more

I live in a rural area where there aren't a lot of internet options. I decided to go with Hughesnet when my current internet provider said it would be a month before they could come out to repair my service. The sales woman at Hughes asked what we use internet for and I explained that my husband and I surf the internet and stream movies. She assured me that Hughes would work great for us so I signed up. It wasn't great!! I called 5 times, upgraded the service, emailed and bought the $99 booster. We had spotty internet and any movie we tried to watch buffered constantly. This all took place within the 1st month and finally I gave up when on the final call the technician said that you can't really stream movies with Hughes and you shouldn't have more than 1 device connected at one time. So I cancelled, with the $400 cancellation fee. The only good thing about Hughes was that its not hard to get a real person on the phone but there's nothing they can do to help with the issue. read more

I do not have this service because of the horrible interaction I had with the customer service representative. As soon as I said hello - the woman asked for my name - insisting I give my last name. I said why do you need my last name in the first 5 seconds of a call and she said - "becuz ah aksed you" in an angry ghetto accent. I said I just want to know what services you provide and the corresponding prices. She said - "what u wanna know." This went on for 5 minutes before I was sickened enough to hang up. I could also hear in the background the same type of loud rude language - I guess it's English? It looks like this company is woke and did some equity hiring - and apparently did not train. Absolutely the worst p.o.s. internet service provider in the County. They serve rural customers who don't have service from the majors in their area. Stay away they don't have very good speeds and the customer service is horrendous. Will put you on hold indefinitely. Especially to close account. Hughesnet are rip offs. I moved and had to pay $217. 00 for breaking 2 year agreement then asked for equipment return box which they sent twice to wrong address. I finally got box & promptly sent equipment back mid- January. Today I see they robbed my account in ant. If $ 214.50 and won't refund mistaken draft from my acct until March 17, at next billing cycle. Robbery such as this must be illegal to randomly take $ and not return. I was skeptical as I had Hughes 8 years ago at my rural location and it was awful. But I must say since we signed up in January with the minimal plan it has worked great. Only stalls out when it is pouring rain. We browse the web during the day and stream Netflix sometimes. So far it has barely made a dent in our data use...it seems to stay at 95% or above. It's only been a month...will see how it goes down the road. Could be we are just coming off the Verizon mafia style broadband that started charging $700+ a week and I'm still fighting the liars at the local Lincoln CA Verizon authorized dealer who said we could close that account with a zero balance, and then lied about it.
