This place has always been an amazing place to eat. The food selection is great in general. There are few items which you can say they are average. The ambiance for night dining is elegant and the lighting sets the right mood for a date or an intimate event. The brunch I felt it was too casual and zero dress code which downgrades it a bit. The service is very attentive however a little slow when busy. The price tag is a little high and to charge $5 for a refill of coke, I think it is a little out of place. Expect to pay about $50/person. Overall I love this place and probably deserves closer to 4.5 stars. I do recommend. read more

Decided to give this place another shot, as our last time here was before the pandemic. My husband and I arrived around 10:30. Brunch buffet opens at 10am. You would definitely need to make a reservation for parties of more than 4. Our waiter was welcoming and efficient. He made sure to keep our table cleaned and replace the utensils as needed. As far as the buffet is concerned; Savory: Salads: papaya and citrus Ceviche (shrimp, octopus and fish) Small bites: veggie/ goat quesadillas Grilled veggies: carrots, broccolini & cauliflower Chips w/ red or green salsa Soup, duck mole, rice, beans Stuffed poblanos, tamales Chilaquiles, corn pudding, carnitas Dessert: Mexican hot chocolate Cookies, tarts, pastries Macarons, fresh fruit, fresh marshmallows Mouse cake, flan, churros, cheesecake bites My husband said his best bite was between the grilled veggies and the pineapple. Went in with my family and the hostess that sat us down kept insisting that we had to leave the table at 12 because they had a reservation. I thought that the comment was extremely unnecessary and just made us feel unwelcomed. First- the service was amazing. We originally had a dinner reservation scheduled for 7:30pm. We happened to be around the area at 6pm instead so we checked if we could be seated sooner. Not only did they seat us early, they served us quickly despite being moderately busy. They were very welcoming and kind. Our waiter was helpful with questions about the menu and even gave a few recommendations upon hearing it was our first time in. The food came out quickly. From appetizers, entrees, and dessert- it was all delicious. Upon hearing we were celebrating our anniversary- they brought out a complimentary dessert. The Chamorro De Puerco (slow roasted pork shank) practically melted off of the bone, it was perfectly cooked. Such an amazing flavor as well. Served with bean tamale on the side. The Taquitos De Pollo were perfectly fried. The flavor from the chicken and avocado-tomatillo salsa stood out to me the most- absolutely amazing. The chicken was nice and tender as well. The AGUACHILE DE LOMO DE RES (sliced beef tenderloin) practically melted in our mouths. Perfectly paired with their chips. The best for last- the Churros rellenos served with table-side, house-made hot chocolate. All I can say is- you'll have to try this for yourself. AMAZING. This might have been one of the best dining experiences I've had in Houston! I went with my mom and aunt to celebrate my aunt's birthday and Hugo's didn't disappoint. Every single dish we ordered was incredible. The highlights for us were the pulpo al carbon, callo de hacha, and mariscos al ajillo. Our server Miriam was fantastic and gave great wine and tequila recommendations. They even brought us a dessert to celebrate my aunt's birthday. I will absolutely be coming back to Hugo's, can't wait. read more

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Hubby and I came here for date night last Sunday night for the first time. We were absolutely amazed with the food! I had the cabrito and he enjoyed the chicken enchiladas. We both loved--and loved is an understatement--our desserts!!! I ordered the caramel crepes with cajeta and he ordered the chocolate cake with dulce de leche cream. We shared, of course. Wow! Both desserts were rich and creamy. Just mouthwatering delicious! And the margaritas! We each drank 'The Greatest Margarita' and thoroughly enjoyed them. Our server was a tiny bit "distracted" and seemed almost tired and annoyed, but overall, she held it together. Excellent food - no free chips & salsa but the guacamole and homemade chips were excellent. Food was good. We normally skip dessert but opted for the churros and chocolate ice cream plus delicious hot cocoa and a chocolate martini which was superb. Came in for a lunch on a weekday with a group of 6! We were celebrating something and had made a reservation, but we arrived an hour early and were seating with no wait. Food was delicious! For apps, we got the octopus, plantains, and grasshoppers. The first two were great, but the grasshoppers were a bit too adventurous for my tastes. We got the two specials which were chicken enchiladas and a bistec, and both for great. They even brought out a little celebration dessert at the end. What's better than fantastic Mexican food? A brunch buffet of it!! We stopped into Hugo's today as we were driving by Houston. It was so worth the detour. I will never be able to remember all the things on the buffet, but it included ceviche, quesadillas, tamales, enchiladas, 3 different types of chile rellenos (veggie, duck mole and chicken), corn pudding, eggs with jalapeño, spicy potatoes, several salad and roasted vegetable dishes, seafood rice, lamb, pork, ribs and brisket. The dessert bar was just as amazing - the tres leches cake was so good! Add to all the a great selection of mimosas and cocktails. Our server, Albert, was attentive and efficient. I've been hearing wonderful things about their Sunday Brunch Buffet. I'm so happy that I'm finally able to go. We got up early to get there at 10 am. I highly recommend it, otherwise call ahead of time for a reservation. They will accommodate large parties, which is great but they do seat parties of 2. I got a mi corazon mimosa with red grapefruit juice, lime, and simple syrup, refreshing. The spread for the buffet was a sight to see. They had heuvos rancheros, chilaquiles, goat birria quesodillas, menudo, gigantic tamales, ceviche, rice, refried beans, papas bravas, chile rellenos, stuffed bell peppers, carnitas, brisket cauliflower, brussels sprouts, fresh salsas, a gigantic dessert table. Everything was amazing, beyond expectations. Plus the presentation of each dish even though it was buffet style, was beautiful with flower garnishes and the staff was incredibly attentive with upkeep. They do have a Saturday Brunch, but I enjoyed being able to pick and choose what I wanted and trying new things that I haven't experienced before. This is the first place where I enjoyed having menudo, it was a deep red broth with tender tripe and hominy. I loved the poached egg on a corn bread, brisket tamale, carnitas, basically everything I had stood out. If I could, I'd love to go once a month, it's worth it. Service was outstanding and attentive without being overbearing. 10/10 would return again. read more

Sunday brunch! I had to make reservations for a group of 6 with almost a week In advanced, and I know now why is that. Mexican food buffet style, when I say MEXICAN you know how strict and jealous I'm about my food, but this place is by the Oaxaca born and raised chef Hugo, so I knew I was going to an OG. The server took the time to explained to us how this kitchen Was organic and everything fresh in Mexico that's a given but I suspect in USA they have to make the remark as something extra special. The food everything I tried even though is buffet, you know how some places had buffet options that aren't that good, well this one is amazing, specially the bakery section, my sister in law went crazy with all the delicious options, we had a gárrase of mimosas and it was strong yummy and hit the point, the buffet comes with aguas frescas and/pr coffee, definitely worth the hype. I'll have to come during regular a la carte to try other things but I'm sure I will be satisfied. read more

Had a great dinner at Hugo's last night. Two of us had the daily enchiladas which were beef short rib. The meat marinade was flavorful and I appreciated the fact that the amount of sauce didn't overwhelm the plate. The black beans had a perfect texture for the plate. We shared a bottle of rose sangria, and wished we had stuck with margaritas. It was just ok. The service was amazing. Very attentive but not overwhelming. We'll be back! read more

Our waitress was attentive and staff was quick to help serving. - Ceviche Verde : the catch of the day was snapper. Yum! - Mole de Olla : oxtail soup. Perfect for the odd chilly days in town. Great portion and flavor. Served with tortillas, onions, cilantro, lime! - rice : Spanish style or cilantro. I got the Spanish style and it was flavorful. You'll remember it by its unique serving in a pyramid shape. - barbacoa : slightly smaller in portion. May be suited for smaller appetites. I do wish they've served us water more promptly. Good photo op at the entrance. Parking is valet and complimentary. That helps! I do recall their exceptional Sunday brunch experience as well. May be on my list to come back and try again. Haven't been here in years but everything is still amazing! Definitely try anything with their seafood options because it's so delicious! My husband brought me to celebrate my birthday early and everything was 10/10. They have valet and go based off tip which they deserve super hard working & nice! We go inside sit at the bar and Chino the bartender attended us. He was very knowledge about everything , and super attentive. For food I ordered off the HRW menu and my husband ordered off the regular menu. I ordered the HRW Menú nuestro estilo ( because they do have like 2 other different options to choose from.) I would give it an 8/10 it wasn't bad but my husbands order was definitely way more delicious! But, the perk with HRW menu is being able to try about 4 different dishes ( appetizer, entree, desert etc.) My husband on the other hand ordered pulpo al carbon (appetizer) DELICIOUS!!! He also ordered for his main course MARISCOS AL AJILLO, so so so good! Their seafood options are 10/10. Also their salsa habanero was delicious! Came here for late brunch with my hubby on a Sunday. We didn't really know what to order at first, but then per the waiter's recommendation we decided to go with "Callo de Hacha" and the "Camarones al Mojo de Ajo". Both were splendid plates, not only had they come in a beautiful presentation, but also tasted amazing. The only one missing star goes to the annoying fly flying around that was trying to be friends with us, hopefully you guys will not have to be acquaintances. Definitely recommend it! read more
