This was my second time at this place, and I will come back for a third, fourth, fifth! The atmosphere, decor, food, drinks, and service is nothing short of amazing! Our server was Sergio, and he is top notch, 5+ stars!!! He was so attentive, made great suggestions for drinks and dinner, loved all of it! I met a friend who was in town for work, we haven't seen each other in 3 years, so we were nonstop talking and Sergio still took care of us, my water glass was never less than half full... and he checked on us multiple times, most servers I feel like ignore tables when there is constant conversation, but not Sergio! I had the Wagyu steak and added the grilled veggies, so good! Also had 2 margaritas, the pineapple one and then the blueberry one with the codigo tequila. So refreshing and well balanced! She made the evening fun and was very helpful with the menu as we had not been to Hugos before. She brought us unique round small corn tortilla chips, served with salsa and green avocado salsa; both tasted very fresh. I thought the green was much better, but that's probably because I'm not a fan of warmed red salsa. I like it cold. Smoked Brisket tacos were disappointingly dry but tasty. **Delivery during COVID-19** I reserve 5's for places like this. I tend to think that delivery can never be as good as eating in the restaurant. And if this is true, then we have quite a treat waiting for us when we finally make it in to an in-person dining experience. This was by far the best food delivery that we have gotten since we moved into our house in Irving. Made reservations for four on Sunday night at Hugo's Invitados. Located right in the middle of the las colinas district, it offers great ambience and a nice upscale feel. We were seated immediately, and we really enjoyed their indoor seating. Some really cool abstract art pieces around to look at while we waited for our food! Our server was evidently busy, and/or a-little out of it we felt. We never received refills, and she seemed very rushed to let us speak, but we weren't too expressive about it. The chips and salsa were sooo hard! Good chips are a must at any Mexican restaurant, salsa was on point though. The shrimp tacos were phenomenal, and despite asking for aoli on the side and not getting it, the taste made up for the tiny mistake. Everyone else seems pleased with their meals, and the margaritas were really good as well. Completely blown away by my experience here. Im quite jaded by the "faux fancy" mexican spots that are becoming the trend (looking right at you Meso Maya, Menas, Mi Dia, and Sueno). This place though actually delivers on their promise of fresh ingredients and not pandering to adding sour cream and queso or deep frying to every dish They serve mini baked chips, which are actually still crunchy and taste like corn! The red salsa is served warm and wasn't to my liking. The green salsa was served cold and that was fantastic! It's not a lot of it, but I like the fresh chunks of avocado in the salsa. They only brought me one round of chips and salsa, but I have a feeling they would bring more if I was with more people. I ordered the berry whiskey cocktail, but got it with mezcal. This was some good stuff! Smoky and sweet in harmony! The la patada cocktail was great as well, although I will say it's hard to slug back with it's chipotle infused mezcal. Initially it burns my throat, but becomes more bearable after a few sips. This drink works best when having your meal. I ordered four appetizers, not knowing I was getting half order entrée portions. As one hungry man, I ended up ordering more food than I could comfortably eat. Don't same the same mistake as me. Either bring other people or order less. Each entrée, except the ceviche, came with several mini corn tortillas. The barbacoa here is simple yet beautiful. Plenty of moisture, plenty of beefy flavor, yet it never felt overwhelming in grease. The presentation alone looked like a mini beef mountain. The panela is good, although I would have personally liked to have seen the cheese a little more gooey. Otherwise, it's still a great salty cheese. They top it with this delicious chorizo and grilled veggies that make this quite hearty. Thr pork belly chicarron is not as crispy as I would except from the name, but it's still damn good. It comes off more like a thick slice of moist fatty brisket The crema they add with it is a great addition, along with the dark green salsa. This thing is huge though, with them serving you 3 whole strips rather than one. This was also the heaviest dish out of everything I ordered so keep that in mind. The red snapper ceviche is fresh! looks and kinda taste like octopus, but the fish in this felt like it came fresh from the sea! The mango salsa is fruity but has plenty of acidity to make it savory. I'd says it's a little too acidic as it slightly irritated my throat. They use some pretty unripe avocados, so thats a bit of a bummer, but if you keep this as leftovers, then the avocados became a little better. read more

Really disappointing experience. Lived in Las Colinas for 3 years and everyone raved about Hugo's. Unfortunately, their service earned them the 1 Star. The hostess was very nice but the wait staff was extremely slow and unapologetic. I'm not kidding when I said we saw our server 3 times. First time for drinks (waited 13 minutes), ordered food, then bill. Spent almost $200 as well. It's sad because the food was semi decent. Not really worth the price. I would assume a pre Covid experience would be 5 Stars but with the current work force and staff not knowing what customer service, I have no desire to go back. This is a newer restaurant in the new-ish urban area of Las Colinas. This is the neigborhood with the large horse statue across the street and the tram car that never got developed. It's a neat looking place. Very high ceilings. Neat tropical vibe atmosphere. VERY LOUD. We were seated in the bar area which was slightly less loud. Other reviews have mentioned the service being slow and we did find our food and drinks were slow, and our waiter apologized a lot for it. She got a mixed drink which she liked and I got a mexican Cab which was also excellent. The chips and salas are good. The chips are small and round and crispy. The red salsa is served warm, and it tastes like tomato soup. The green one was cold and was pretty good. We started with the mexican avacado toast. It was like a mini pizza - 4 small slices. Pretty good. Very doughy. It's a corn dough but quite thick and dense. For dinner, she had the scallops. She loved it. I tried one, and, as always, sand. I cannot stand sand in scallops. I don't know why people cook them at all without washing them like crazy. Someone on here raved about the "Cochinita Pibil" which is a pork shank served vertically. They make a big show of this. It looks real nice and the cook pours this gravy over it in front of you. Very dramatic. Taste? Not so great. Bland and the meat was dry. Looking at it you'd think it's going to be amazing. But that meat is dry and bland and that sauce doesn't do a darn thing for it. Someone on here raved about how good it was and people picking meat off until the end. I took half home and am feeding it to the dogs tonight. That's no joke. It will be mixed into their dinner. Someone on here also raved about the elote. We got that as a side and it was, ok? Tangy and tart but not something I loved. I admit I am from New England and we don't serve someone just corn. I don't get the elote thing and have never been amazed by it no matter where I order it. If I could give this place 6 Stars I would. I absolutely love this place and constantly recommend everyone to check them out. We went for Brunch and even with all the COVID social distancing measures you will have a great experience. They do offer complimentary valet during certain days and hours but there is plenty of parking since they are in a prime location in Las Colinas. Before I can get into the food, we must start at the decor because it is part of the experience. The resteraunt itself is a piece of art. There are beautiful decorated mannequins throughout. There is a large covered patio space with water sprays if you prefer to eat outside. There is also an awesome DJ with a margaritas truck to get you into the weekend mood. Every detail in the space from the mosaic tiled columns to the wood walls is just so inviting and creates such a relaxing environment . So to the most important part of the review...the Food! We went for brunch so we had to try the Vegan whole wheat pancake so make sure you come hungry. The barboacoa appetizer with homemade tortillas is a must and defnitely plenty to share. The mimosas were delicious and I recommend the pineapple basil flavor. We also shared the Smoked Brisket Machaca. Every dish was full of flavor and it is evident they only use top qualiy ingredients. Service is always a huge factor for me and Hugo's has the best staff. I wish I could take the staff with me to every eatery I go to. Eddie was our waiter so ask for him if you can. He would provide us amazing recommemdations and gave us a brief synopsis of the Hugo's history. Was so #hungover last week and stopped by to pick up their Tlapeño soup - best decision I made that weekend. Delicious broth and all the little accoutrements to top it with when I got home. Beautiful restaurant with free parking in the garage right behind it. The food was amazing and excellent service. I was able to make a reservation here on Yelp before and the table was ready on time. I had brisket tacos on flour tortillas, and they were super good along with black beans and couscous. The chips and salsa to start was also great. I also had a Hugo's Seltzer with blueberry and it was quite tasty. My dinner partners all said their food was great including a salad and carne asade. Okay, this was a hard one for me. But IMO....if you have foreign objects in your food it is an automatic 1 star. I spent 88.22 for a pick up order on 3/24/22. We got the wagyu, chicken enchiladas, shrimp tacos, chips and tres leches. The meal itself was probably a 3.5. The cut of meat was super chewy but the beet sauce was very well done. The rice wasn't anything special but the black beans were flavorful. The shrimp didn't have that overly "fishy" taste and they made an effort to season it. It wasn't a stand out meal but it wasn't bad until the crunch. We found black bits of plastic inside the enchilada. It was visibly shiny, hard, and an unpleasant bite to say the least. Absolutely grossed me out. I had to check all my food since we were sharing and then I was paranoid for the rest of the meal. We immediately put the enchiladas in the trash and picked at the rest. It's just a super offputting experience to find something that isn't food hidden inside your entree. I called and the manager offered to take the enchiladas off. (The bare minimum) But what really bothered me was that he specifically asked me what color the plastic was. It leads me to believe that this has happened before. If you're having trouble with a specific brand of kitchen utensils and they're breaking apart in the food of your patrons....maybe it's time to make a change? Anyway, I won't be eating here again. I'm not trying to crack a tooth or fill up on plastic. Strongly suggest evaluating what's going on in the kitchen to prevent this happening in the future. read more

I came to this restaurant on a Friday night it wasn't too crowded and they were able to see my party at 5:00 with a call ahead. The vibe is unique and decor is odd. I had good feelings about this place going in. The noise level was a little bit loud, and maybe I will blame that on my waiters inability to hear our orders and bring out the right thing. We had one more than one occasion where we received the wrong item. I ended up getting my food to go but did enjoy a nice glass of wine. My friends wine unfortunately tasted like the bottle had been opened too long. I ordered their carne asada to go cooked medium and unfortunately the steak was cooked well done. I also had the ceviche and honestly it didn't have much flavor. My friend had a salad with the salmon and enjoyed it. I also had the tres leches dessert and unfortunately cannot recommend it. My first try was the Spicy Oaxaca, and it was not even remotely spicy --it was a actually cloyingly sweet. The Perfect was definitely better, but not really better than average. The beef tenderloin enchiladas sounded so good, and were so bad. Specifically, the tenderloin was tough with plenty of inedible bits of gristle, the enchiladas were wrapped haphazardly to the point of falling apart, and they were served a bit above room temperature. I was not able to finish even half the plate. A fellow guest had the Wagyu Carne Asada and when I asked how that was he said, "It was okay." Enough with my negativity, there were some good parts. I sat at the bar for a bit. The bar had a good variety of tequilas. The bartender I had was great. He knew a lot the tequilas and made great drinks. When we finally sat down at a table, no one came and helped us for over 30 minutes and it was not busy at all. Maybe 2 tables had people. We had to flag down a server to help us. Other than that the service was great. Our server was very nice and gave us good recommendations on drinks and food. The red snapper ceviche had a mango sauce that was delicious. I took my friend here for her birthday dinner last night, intending to stay for dinner but we left abruptly after one drink & appetizers. Ambiance is absolutely adorable. Really beautiful unique vibey place. Drinks were expensive but delicious and pretty. I got the blueberry margarita ($14), and she got the spicy Oaxaca marg($15). Chips were brought out with a warm red salsa & a cold green salsa. Both were good, but I thought the green one was especially delicious. For appetizers we ordered the ceviche fresco ($20) and the smoked salmon nachos ($18). When they both arrived at the table, I was surprised. The portions are SUPER small for the price. With the nachos, literally you get six dorito sized tortilla chips sprinkled with stuff. With the ceviche, you get about a cup (8oz) of ceviche total. I should first mention that I LOVE CEVICHE in general, shrimp cocktails, and seafood. I eat seafood multiple times per week. I am very familiar with the firm texture and fresh citrusy flavor of good ceviche, and I was really looking forward to this. I took one bite of Hugo's ceviche & I knew INSTANTLY that it was a huge mistake & was going to completely ruin my entire meal & appetite. I am nearly gagging now thinking back on how absolutely DISGUSTING this ceviche was. I hope it doesn't ruin all ceviche for me forever. First of all (& I didn't realize this until I sunk my teeth into the first bite), it was like they used very old fish or something, it was so overwhelmingly fishy tasting that the smell lingered heavily in my mouth and nose & on the tiny spot of my finger that touched it as I was scooping w the chip. Second of all, It was not properly cured with the lime juice, so the color of the fish was somewhat ...grey? & the texture was extremely mushy. Almost like goopy. Gummy? Omg truly disgusting. I was instantly nauseous. My friend noticed my extreme reaction & tried it herself (against my advice). She was also disgusted by the flavor & texture. I tried one of her smoked salmon nachos to get the taste out of my mouth, which was a huge mistake. The salmon was not smoky tasting like smoked salmon normally is. It tasted *exactly* like that muddy dirt flavor you get with bad catfish. I instantly had to spit it out into my napkin and fight my gag reflex, since this... on top of the rancid ceviche...was just too much for me. My friend didn't seem to mind the taste of the nachos as much, although she agreed that it did taste very much like catfish. Thankfully our server Julio was good & understanding & took the ceviche off our bill. We decided that our experience w the appetizers was not worth risking ordering a more expensive entree, so I paid for our drinks & nachos and we left to go somewhere else for dinner. I know every restaurant has an "off" day or meal every once in a while, but that ceviche left a horrid taste in my mouth, literally and figuratively. t pains me to write this review but it must be done. Hugos used to be one of our Top 3 places to dine out, but sadly no longer. Mind you, we have been going to Hugo's since it opened in Las Colinas. My wife's office is across the street, so we frequented Hugo's for lunch some where around 100+ times. The food has always been delicious and unique. Service has usually been outstanding as well. We recently made a reservation for the West Village location (for May 7th) and when we arrived we were shocked to find a closed sign. Not only did Hugo's close their location with no warning...they didn't have the decency to contact the folks who made plans to dine with them the day the closed. Nothing... When I called the Irving location, they were basically like "yeah...sorry about that". When we came tonight for mother's day, I was so let down by everything that transpired: 1) Our reservation at 6PM was not ready. My name was not in their system.... even though I showed them the e-mail. The hostess said " yes, I found you...let me setup your table". Great. I waited for 20 minutes and then returned to ask if there was a problem with the table that was being setup. Her reply "Oh, we had to seat other parties that had reservations before you". Okay, that's not the issue...the issue is that we're standing around and waiting for a table that was, in fact, NOT being setup. We could have gone to the bar for a drink or gone walking ... So instead, we were finally seated after 37 minutes after arrived. Again, the hostess comes over before we're seated "What was the name again? You're not in my system". So.. one hostess said she found me and the other said that I'm no in there. Got it. 2) Appetizer order took 25 minutes to arrive. We ordered soup, premade soup. All it takes is to scoop it out of the pot and serve up. It was cold when it arrived as well. Yikes 3) We asked for just a single steak taco, side of rice and beans for my 5 year old. Before, it would be $12 for the side of protein that would usually be ordered on a salad and say another $6 for rice and beans. Pricey at $20, but it's what we expected. Instead, they brought our 5 year old son the full order of carne asada... a $35 meal. Why would you bring a 5 year old kid an adult entree without making sure it was okay with the guest? 4) My tomahawk pork chop - I specifically had a conversation with the server and asked how chef recommends the cut. He said "medium". I said please ask check to cook it closer to medium rare. He said no problem... When it came out, I cut into my beautiful chop to find that it was a stiff well done cook. I only ate half 5) the bathroom was dirty. Trash on the floor and ZERO toilet paper. Seriously guys.... this is unacceptable at this price point. Mexican food to another level. We actually paused outside to make sure we could all afford to eat here. The lavish exterior and interior bar looks opulent and classy, we didn't want to find ourselves going "over budget". Surprisingly affordable prices accompanied by good service and the food.....? The food is very very good. For me, the seafood enchiladas were exquisite, great flavor, plenty of seafood and a light spice that didn't overpower the meal. My colleagues all enjoyed their meals and gave a solid 2 thumbs up from each of them. Desserts were also very good. I'm adding this restaurant to my "have to return to" list, for sure. Overall enjoyed the food mostly. The Cobia dish was overcooked and tough for a fish. 2 at our table ordered that dish and neither liked it. The wagyu Carne asada was good but a terrible value at $40, especially given its size. The Panella appetizer was hands down our favorite. Did not like the ceviche with Cobia. Would have much preferred a more premium fish like mahi, especially at $26 price point. The barbacoa enchiladas were very good but Also had a price point issue given its beef cheek. Not to mention the margaritas in $16-$20 range. Just silly. Overall I am torn. Some of the dishes were exceptional but price point was way off. Other dishes didn't belong on the menu (Cobia). If I am paying this price point the service better be spot on and unfortunately it was very average (slow and felt ignored at times) and the bar was slow. I am probably not returning until the value is there for what you get. I appreciate quality believe me but at a reasonable price. Meet a few friends out for dinner after we saw an Instagram reel about Hugo's Invitados. The ambiance was great and the food was amazing! We had a wonderful server, Dylan, who made the dining experience exceptional. Dylan was very attentive and tended to our needs. The food portions were perfect and the drinks were strong! Excellent food, perfect service and wonderful overall experience. This place has exceptional service. Chris the bartender was not only talented but also friendly and willing to answer our questions. The margaritas were strong and tasty. They make a special pineapple drink where the brulee a pineapple on top. It was amazing! Dinner was another positive experience. I had smoked salmon nachos. Sweet bits of mango combined with smoked salmon was a great combo. This place is a must try if you are in the Las Colinas area. read more

OK, we're gonna need some more stars here, Yelpers. Five's not working for me. This place rolled my socks up and down and then slap spun 'em off. This is some of the most remarkable cooking we've encountered in a long, long time. I think Hugo's may be doing for Latin/Mexican cuisine what Mark Miller, Dean Fearing, Stephen Pyles et. al. did for new Southwest cuisine. Before the food, however, comes the decor. LOL. How to describe this? Winsomely sophisticated, nouveau surreal Mexican playa avant garde? I dunno but it is very cool, interesting, and enjoyable. And I love open kitchens and inviting bars such as here. The floral art piece on the north wall is spectacular. My camera comes with me next visit. The table is promptly presented with a bowl of small round, baked tortilla discs and bowls of a warm salsa roja and a salsa verde. The roja is quite good, but I think the verde is spectacular. The chips are unusual but not unpleasant. They actually grew on me after I got passed their difference from typical tortilla chip fare. Our server today, Dalia, was remarkable. I had lots of questions having studied the menu before hand. She had ALL the answers. You'd think she was cooking the way she was so aquatinted with the dishes and their preparation. For starters Anne had the usual, a Chardonnay; and, of course, I'm homing in on a marg. None of the margaritas on the menu were exactly what I most enjoy (equal parts of fresh lime juice, Cointreau or Combier, and tequila. Period). I asked if something like that could be poured. "Sure". The first one was OK. On the second I asked for more of the Cointreau and it was perfect. We started with the Ceviche Fresco. It was one of the most flavorful and interesting ceviches we have ever had, and we've enjoyed many including our own favorite creation. The combination and layers of flavors created by the fish, mango, corn, onion and jalapeños etc are exquisite. I cannot wait to have the red snapper ceviche on the dinner menu. I asked Dalia if she had a recommendation for the soups. "Gimme a second," she said and soon returned with three small cups containing samples the three soups. A Mexican chicken, a red pepper and shrimp bisque and a chef's special which turned out to be a pozole (I'm hearing impaired and didn't catch the description but it was a tangy tomatillo soup with hominy, so I assume it was a pozole something or other). Each was superb. We decided on the bisque and were not disappointed. The rich, silky red pepper bisque was enhanced with just a hint of shrimp flavor and yielded several pieces of tasty shrimp. This, with the ceviche, will be a meal staple for us on future visits. I'm envision that bisque on a Fall day on the patio! For our entree (we shared all of these dishes as we're old timers with small appetites) we opted for the chipotle shrimp tacos. Each blue corn tortilla contained three large perfectly cooked (meaning not overcooked as is the case with shrimp in most restaurants) shrimp accompanied by the delish complimentary garnishes and sauces. Another best ever. The rice that accompanies the entrees is quite different and quite good! Really good. The black beans today not so much. We would have expected more flavor. Some heat, cilantro, lard flavor or something. But, still they were good. Sharing these three selections provided us with the perfect amount of food for our appetites. If you were to ask me what makes what they're doing here so unique I would say the skillful combination and preparation of fresh vegetables, fruits, spices, sauces and seafood is unlike anything we have enjoyed in the states as well as in Mexico, Central and South America. Hugo's has some very creative and flavor savvy hands in the kitchen. And the service today was all that one is looking for in a restaurant experience. Dalia is the greatest. I took some of my transplant girlfriends here on the search for diverse adult beverages , and man ohh man; Hugo's got me cool points for sure. "Oh, Meg this place is so fancyyyy!" "Meghan, I am trusting you on all restaurant suggestions from here on out!" I smile in delight and tell them this place has been on my radar for centuries as my inner goddess "pops it on a handstand." My girl was right, this place is indeed fancy. Not fancy as in scotch and cufflinks, hell I wore a bikini and a cover up.... but fancy as it tastefully furnished---like the designer is a Z Gallerie fan. Our server Gabriel was very in tuned with the menu which was a huge help to us newbies. Service was slow but Gabriel was long winded, so I couldn't' knock him for spending time with his tables. The chips & salsa were good, not great. The chips were round which reminded me too much of Tostitos--my feedback on this popular Mexican snack is probably more psychological than anything. The Smoked Hemingway was my cocktail selection. This drink flew me to Mezcal glory, DO YOU HEAR ME? Definitely not for simple palettes, but I highly recommend it! The food? Not memorable. Got the tenderloin tacos that wouldn't even fill up my toddler nephews. Prices are a little high in comparison to the amount of food that you get, but look at the bright side--valet is complimentary! Hugo's is really a solid 3, but the décor & that cocktail really have me guaranteeing a return! read more

My friends and I have visited Hugo's for lunch today. The ambiance and decor stood out immediately as soon as we walked in. It felt like we have been transported from Dallas to Hawaii! Tropical feels, greenery around, mannequins wearing summer beachy flowy dresses. The food is amazing and the drinks tasted unique too. We had couple of spicy drinks which were refreshing, seafood , chicken and salmon Main dishes and the star of the show Strawberry moose.
