First timer here and it didn't disappoint! My boyfriend and I came here around 7pm on a Friday and it was packed. They have tons of options and it also serves Chinese food. The service here was great, but it does take a little while just because it's always so busy. The two cashiers in the front were very friendly and when the food is ready, they bring it to you where most Hawaiian bbq places just call out a number. We ordered a regular sized locomoco, regular sized Kalua pork, two spam musubis, and malasadas. They were all really good and would order again. The locomoco came with two patties & two eggs and the kalua pork was filled with pork mixed with cabbage (optional). The malasadas were $5 for 10 pieces and they were delicious! They were very similar to Chinese donuts, very doughy and greasy covered in sugar, but they were served nice and hot. Would definitely come back again! Decided to order the Kahlua Pork since it had some veges in it. Ordering was simple, just walk up to the counter, order first, and wait for your number to be called or if you asked for 'here', they will bring it to you. The large portion came with a scoop of mac salad and rice. Pork was tender and not dry like many other places. I've honestly never really liked pulled pork because it's almost always dry unless soaked in bbq sauce. Hula Wok made the pork very tender. Overall, great place if you're craving some Hawaiian with plenty of seating inside. They also have some chinese food options if you're craving that as well. I'm trying to figure out the rating this place has received. Does this place deserve it's four star review? No, and here's why. 1. It doesn't taste better than more popular restaurants similar to this place like L&L. It's not bad but it's not as good. 2. Do you get a lot of food? Yes, but you pay for it. The pictures show plates full of food but the amount of food per dollar isn't a great deal. You San get a three item at Panda Express for the same piece and actually end up with more food. 3. How's the service? It's good but it's not great enough to compensate for my first two points. I give this place a 3 star. It's decent food at an ok price. I will say that this is one of those well reviewed places that can really be a big let down for travelers searching for good food while in town. read more

Located within the strip-mall within the Safeway Shopping Center, it's not visible from San Ramon Blvd (though directly behind the Men's Warehouse & adjacent to Subway)... Though location isn't optimal (most however should see en route to Taco Bell or Chipotle), I'm guessing word of mouth will eventually spread the good word as it's ABOUT TIME we had a decent Hawaiian Food option in San Ramon... I've traveled deep into Dublin & Pleasanton areas for the new Hawaiian spots that recently opened up shop, though the end-product didn't quite live up to the travel time & subsequent wear & tear on the car... Alright... I know what you're going to say next... "Bryan, you don't have to drive out of town..., Kilohana Grill at the San Ramon Market Place is just right down the street!"... Without going into too much detail, reference my Kilohana Grill review... Go ahead..., take a peek... Anyhoo..., sensitive subject aside, these guys even at GRAND OPENING have done quite a decent job. I showed up late on a Tuesday evening & was greeted immediately upon entry as well as a friendly greeting/smile at the register (even by the trainee assisting with the order taking). Opted for my baseline option at ANY Hawaiian Food joint, being the BBQ Mix Plate @ $8.45. Topped this off with an order of Spam Musubi @ $1.99 + a Mango Orange Hawaiian Sun @ $1.50... Very reasonable, though let's see if these are TRUE Hawaiian Size Portions... Waited about 15 minutes for my to-go order, giving me a decent amount of time to scan the store... Dining area was quite large & kitchen area was HUGE... Obvious Chinese influence/owner, even down to the robust menu (Chinese dishes Ala Carte + Hula Combos where you can mix Chinese + Hawaiian) & a handful of lucky bamboo plants decorating the store... In regards to the food? I was handed my BBQ Mix Plate & 1 Spam Musubi & the bag literally felt like it was filled with lead... I cracked open the to-go container at the house & found hearty portions of BBQ Chicken, a juicy Short Rib & thin slices of BBQ Beef. The BBQ was served atop a MASSIVE mound of rice (I initially saw 2 scoops, but found an ADDITIONAL bed of rice under all the BBQ + a scoop of macaroni salad)... Now THIS is what you should expect from a TRUE Hawaiian Plate Lunch. If you've ever ordered from the "other guys" & left hungry, then there's a good chance you've been duped (Expecto Patronum?)... Portions here are so large, I could've easily split with the wife & would've still been content... Though chicken & Short Rib were quite good, the BBQ Beef was a bit too thin (maybe cooked too long?), so could've used some work... The Spam Musubi however was very good & filled in the blanks for a majority of the BBQ Beef that I ended up passing on... In regards to the other goods? Pretty much what you'd expect at most other Hawaiian joints... Seafood BBQ Mix, Hawaiian bowls, Chicken Katsu, Loco Moco, Lau Lau, Kalua Pork, Saimin, Hawaiian Sun's galore & even healthy options! I'll be back to sample/test the authenticity of the rest of the items (with potential additional stars in their future as a result), though my first experience was very positive & I'm rooting for these guys to be a local success story... Missing items? No desserts as of yet, nor boba options... I inquired on feasibility of introducing these items (à la Malasadas, etc...), though they mentioned that they literally JUST OPENED & will be discussing expanding the already robust menu (entree-wise), should they prove to be successful... Great quality food for the price that you're paying. I got the seafood platter with BBQ beef and boy, was I satisfied. It came with fried shrimp, fried white fish, and BBQ beef that was marinated and cooked to perfection. All of that food for $10. I will definitely be back if I'm ever in the area. Based on my last experience I will never patronize this place again. I placed an online order for pick up. 5 min before my order was scheduled to be ready I get a call from Hulu. I'm told they want additional $$ for my order. I tell them it was placed and paid for online. They go on to ask for more money. If there's a problem with pricing on the online ordering system the restaurant should take it up with the service provider not the customer. I hope the additional money was worth the lost sale and lost future business. I canceled the order and grabbed In N Out instead. Can't go wrong there. I sent $7.45 instead of $11.89 and wasn't asked for extra $ lol. The food is decent for the price and quantity but by no means amazing. Tender, well-seasoned grilled meat and large portions makes Hula Wok hard to beat for Hawaiian/Asian cuisine! My boyfriend and I randomly stopped here one day for lunch, and wow! Impressive. We ordered the BBQ mixed plate---all our meats were tender and flavored nicely, and my boyfriend LOVED the macaroni salad. (I don't like mayonnaise.) We came again a couple weeks later, and OMG the BBQ chicken! So tender! And so much food. Definitely worth the 8 bucks. My favorites here are the short ribs, the Kahlua pork, and the BBQ chicken. So I normally hit up L&L in Pleasanton when I feel like some Hawaiian BBQ, but I saw this place and the great reviews so I decided to give it a try. Here are my findings: 1- the directions/address from yelp wasn't transferring correctly or being read correctly on google maps so i drove around in a couple circles until I found the place so here's a helpful hint -- Crow Canyon Rd off 680 is the exit! 2 - got the half and half-- BBQ short ribs barely had any meat on them.. And so did the chicken.. L&L portions are way more decent.. 3- macaroni salad at L&L is like heaven and here it's ok... 4- pricing is a little bit too high considering the quality of food isn't comparable.. read more

My usual is the chicken katsu. All their fried food is made to order, so it comes out steaming hot. The staffs are super friendly and professional. Place is spotless and clean. I like this place - the food is quite good, the portions are VERY generous, and the service is great! So...why only 3 stars? STYROFOAM! Seriously, Hula Wok? Even when you are eating there (not take-out), you get your food in a styrofoam container! Also their drink cups are styrofoam. So disappointing! Thank God for a place like this out here in Tri Valley! The food tastes great and feels like it's home made. They are prompt with service and friendly. Unlike most Hawaiian BBQ places they switch up special dishes. Chinese food is good here too. My son (who is a super picky eater) absolutely loves the spam fried rice and malasadas. We have been enjoying eating at Hula Wok at least twice a month since we moved to the area a couple of years ago. Since Covid we have not gone as much but bought take-out a few times. Tonight we went we decided to order take-out. The cashier at the counter was wearing a mask, however, the curtain behind the cashier was partially open and we could see two kitchen staff workers. One was dishing out food from a tray table and his mask was on his chin. The other worker had her mask only over her mouth. We chose to leave without ordering. We phone-ordered a few platters for a family birthday party a few weeks back, and I was pleased with the whole experience. We ordered a large Mac salad, small platter of Spam masubi, seafood/BBQ combo platter, and a small platter of kahlua pork. For around $120, we had a feast perfect for a group of 10, with plenty of leftovers. When I called to place the order, I was impressed with the woman I spoke to, who provided me with a thorough description of each choice, about how much to order per person, and some recommendations. We really liked everything we ordered, with the exception of the kahlua pork, which everyone said they wished was saltier. My favorite dishes were the mac salad and the fried seafood from the platter - perfectly crunchy and flavorful seafood, and the salad was nicely dressed and not soggy at all! My husband painlessly picked up everything without a hitch. Our platters were thoroughly wrapped to stay warm and in place and whoever wrapped it up was generous in providing condiments and dipping sauces. Thanks again! I've been a fan of their Hawaiian plates. Large portions, great price and the food is delicious. Recently disappointed from a couple of incidents. 1- Called to place a take out order, the lady who answered placed me on hold and FORGOT I was on the phone, I had to finally hang up, tried calling back but the phone was busy since they forgot about me! 2- Ordered Chicken katsu yesterday, they forgot about the sauce and the chicken was dry. 3- Also ordered the orange chicken plate and wasn't a fan. The sauce was too sour and the rice was a little dry. Probably won't order again. Will keep returning for your Hawaiian plates, just make sure to include the sauce. This is my favorite hawaiian restaurant ever. The retaurant itself is pretty spacious, and parking is never a problem. I wish they had booths :( The lady in front is really nice to me so a1 customer service. The portion sizes are really good and i like that they have several different options; Bowl, Mini or Regular. I like getting the half and half chicken katsu and bbq beef. If you want just a snack, i recommend the musubi trio or any of the musubis. Their chicken katsu is delicious, the katsu sauce is also really good. i dont usually like katsu sauce but i like it here!! my boyfriend doesnt really like macaroni salad but he'll eat it here :-) overall, whenever im craving rice or hawaiian food, i usually come here!! 10/10 recommend (also if you are in a rush you can call and order, or order online!!) read more

Had fried calamari, Potstickers, spam musubi, and a mini plate of healthy chicken. The food was OK it wasn't bad. The calamari it was slightly rubbery and a little salty but wasn't bad the potstickers was pretty good I like the flavor of the filling and the mini plate was also pretty good I would go back. it's the staff is friendly and I liked that they made a substitution for my mini plate to get broccoli versus the macaroni salad. The order took a bit longer than I expected, there were 2 people there and it seemed it took a long time for their orders to come as well. They other thing was the aesthetics, they had so many handwritten signs posted under the menu that it was a bit confusing and looked tacky. We had the chicken katsu, seafood BBQ mix, BBQ short ribs and BBQ mix plate. Everything was tender and flavorful. The chicken katsu was very tender with an extremely crispy breading. The macaroni salad was perfect--not too heavy but still flavorful. Only place in NorCal that served malasadas (fried sugar donuts). Not exactly like Leonard's but close enough. Dining area is clean with a lot of tables. In fact, people were having their party planning meetings there. Always a continuous crowd. You know a place is good when it's not quiet even on a Thursday night. This place is definitely better than Ohana BBQ and l&l. Overall friendly cashier makes u want to return to hula wok. Try the number 19 it is very good! The chicken and rice proportion is good. The box feels like it almost weighs a pound. The restaurant is very new and the inside is very clean. The only downside I saw is the sauce to go containers for the teriyaki sauce are kind of on the small side. Just ask for extra containers and they will be happy to give them to you. read more
