This was my second time here and it was ruined by our waitress Kaneda. She was rude and made the visit unpleasant. I love the food and the atmosphere and wish our visit was more enjoyable. It was obvious she did not want to be there and could not have made that more clear. She had an attitude to us and the table behind us and didn't have the time of day to check in on us. I had some questions and had to talk loudly across the restaurant to get her attention and even then she did not come to our table to finish the conversation but instead ignored us. One of the things I'll miss most about the area is Hullabaloo's Diner. Their prices are great, the portions are huge, and, above all, the food is excellent. My favorite breakfast was always Hullabaloo's coffee (some of the best restaurant coffee I've had anywhere) along with the Huevos Rancheros- the green chile sauce is fantastic. The philly cheese steak sandwiches are stuffed with plenty of meat and cheese (plus whatever else you get in them- mushrooms and peppers are my favorite), and the Reuben is excellent, as well. The only complaint about the place is that they have a pretty small dining area- there's almost always a wait for weekend breakfast. At dinner-time sometimes they serve pizza. The pizza is great, but I'm never really sure when it's available. read more

Good food. Bad service. Took a while to get us seated when there weren't too many people but I can look past that. The poor service came when the waitress completely disrespected my friends and I. We ordered chicken fried steaks and it came with a side salad. There was no description of what the side salad consisted of so we assumed it was a normal salad. The salad came out and there was bacon all over it. My friends and I are Muslim. We asked the waitress if she could get us new salads without bacon, and she instead scolded us and told us that we should have known and told her not to put bacon on it beforehand. When we told her that there was no description of the salad to begin with she turned over the menu and said the side salad is the same thing as their caeser salad. How in the world are we supposed to know that? The side salad is the Caeser salad? Why would they even have two different names? The Original Diner Burger was great! The fries were some of the best I've ever had! They are phenomenal. The reason I'm only giving three stars is because the food here is usually hit or miss. I went with 6 of my friends, and only 4 of us liked our food. It didn't help that the other 3 people that liked their food got the exact same thing, the Roman Sausage. We had problems with seating, since the place is so small. Also, we had a few problems with the checks. There a few times you come across a good diner. This one is in the middle, the potato square fries were tasty and satisfying. The Churro pancake has too much cinnamon but it is easy to swipe off if you think it is too much cinnamon, preferably the service was just service nothing special I felt they knew what they should of done and they did achieve to use their manners and friendly greetings. But all of the service is typical they just want money is what it feels like. My parents ordered the chicken and it immediately the server said that it was frozen. We as well immediately started making hysterical jokes about this. Honestly this diner has good food only problem I could think about is how the chicken was frozen looked frozen and tasted frozen, the pancakes were tasty and warm they were a little too large for the average person but anyways they were enjoyable. This was my first time to visit this restaurant. And to say I was greatly disappointed is an understatement. I work in the restaurant industry and understand wait times, so after waiting 30 min for food, we sent someone to ask someone about how much longer the wait on our food would be. The gentleman that we talked to was very rude and told us to look around at how many people are there and that the wait would be long. He didn't look to see how long we had been waiting or even what our order was. After another 15 min, and seeing food for people who ordered after us come out, we went and asked again. We found out our ticket had been lost and that they would bring our food out right away. At that point is was too late. We were not mad our ticket had been lost but that the gentleman, who we found out was the the owner, didn't try to help us when we first came to him with the concern. As we told the owner we were upset that he didn't try and help us, all he would do was smirk and state that he had not been rude earlier. I don't think it's on him to determine if he was rude or not. If it takes any restaurant longer than 30-45 min on a ticket they are absolutely doing it wrong. We ended up leaving after almost an hour with no food and a refund. read more

I'm a total DDD groupie so on an overnight trip to College Station we decided to go out on a Sunday for breakfast/lunch. The food was OK, nothing to rave about but not bad. We had a 30 minute wait and ended up with 2 stools at the bar. The place is tired and looks nothing like the pictures they post and they show cute cups, creamers in the shape of cows etc...well it's not so. We had hamburger steaks on black disposable plates, coffee & water in styro foam cups - it was a let down we won't be back. BTW we had no phone service out there on our cells. read more

I have a habit of visiting places that have been on DDD. I'm usually not disappointed. I was, however when I visited Hullabaloo. I get the dining car thing, but I have a family if five and if we bring anyone extra it would be very uncomfortable. I would say party of four, max! Unless you care to sit at the counter. Food is good, but not amazing. I've been for dinner and breakfast. Coffee is weak. Pancakes (my kids ate them) were dry and unnecessarily big! I will say that their breakfast sausage patty was my favorite. We'll probably give it one more go before we throw in the towel. Maybe without the kids... We had some hesitance to try Hullaballou based on negative reviews in the past but decided to try it. Good decision! They seem to have fixed problems of the past such as surly waitresses, cold food and indifferent food and attitude. This is a smalltown Texas diner experience about 10 minutes from College Station. Certainly not "fine dining". The disposable black plates and styrofoam cups are perfectly appropriate. Food was delivered fairly quickly, was hot and tasted good. Battered french fries and a Philly cheese sandwich (thin sliced beef round, provolone, onions and bell peppers) were expecially good. Chicken fried steak may have been the winner. If you have a good sized group try the "train wreck" fries- fries with blue cheese, bacon bits and green onions. There is also a good grilled chicken sandwich. Our waitress (college age, TAMU?).was personable, helpful and attentive. Others seemed the same. If you are in College Station, give this place in Wellborn a try. read more

On this visit we had a male waiter and he was great! Unfortunately I can't think of his name. Then there is the food......the breakfast items are generally good and tasty. But I enjoy the meatloaf and I do not want fries with that, they use to offer mashed potatoes. There needs to be other options of potatoes other than just fries. Granted their fries are delicious. So this was my first time at Hullabaloo, and I'm SO MAD that I haven't been more often! Yes it is a little out of the way, and yes there is a wait, but those are the only 2 negatives that this perfect little diner has. 15 min wait (caught the brunch traffic) so waited inside the little bar where they had a beautiful Macaw hanging out with the folks inside. Names turkey, he's quite friendly and very entertaining. Ordered a delicious cup of Hot Cocoa (best I've had in I don't know how long) and in no time we were inside. The menu is OVERWHELMING! And it's all home made and fresh! Literally every single thing sounded delicious. All you can eat biscuits and gravy, breakfast burritos that put chipotle sized burritos to shame, banana nut bread French toast (caramelized bananas on the top), Ruben, BLT, and chicken sandwiches, vegetarian friendly choices like portabella mushrooms, vegan friendly pizza, garden burgers, the works! My boyfriend settled for the breakfast burrito (everything was well cooked, flavor blended nicely, literally cannot complain). I myself ordered the Diner burger, with bacon and cheddar cheese. For bacon lovers.. This diners bacon will have you talking about it for days. Thick, crispy but not burnt, perfect flavor omg. The beef patty itself was perfectly cooked and still tender and juicy. Lettuce and tomato was fresh, they have those thick delicious dill pickle slices that I adore, and the onion rings, BRAVO. Perfectly breaded, nice slice of onion in the center, and not covered in grease. Our waitress was a total sweetheart too. Pretty decent food; I always get the pot roast because it's pretty awesome, and the mashed potatoes are pretty good as well. My husband likes the meat loaf and the biscuits and gravy. The service could definitely be better, even though the waitress we had this time wasn't half bad. Don't expect the food to come out as quickly as you would expect for a diner, it never does. The dessert is pretty pricey, and the portions are pretty big, but it's not that great- the cheesecake is actually pretty lame in my opinion. read more

i confess. i have pretty low expectations for greasy spoon/diners, so long as the food makes up for any shortcomings. if the service is slightly inattentive but friendly when you ask, i'm fine. if the place isn't spectacularly clean but clearly not filthy i'm fine with that. it's a greasy spoon. that's what it does for a living. this place was full of the "character" on associates with diners. i loved that it was a converted train car. i love the abundant selection of the menu. there was everything from crazy breakfast food (huevos rancheros to absurdly stuffed omelets with a full complement of pancakes, waffles), a giant list of grill-needing sandwiches (sausage, philly steak, etc), and even some dinner entrees. between the four of us, we had a bit of everything and it was all worthy. the philly was less than i'd expected based on the hype and i wanted the fries to be a bit more decadent than what i received. the chicken fried steak was incredible, the massive breakfast burrito was mightier than our party, and my italian sausage was perfect. the only reason they lost the 5th star was a lack of pancakes. i had been looking forward to them and being from out of town, i don't have the luxury of coming back later to try them out. i don't exactly understand how a diner that celebrates serving breakfast all day and is open until 9pm can be out of pancakes at 2pm. read more

My friends and I are college kids from Houston, TX and came to visit another friend at A&M for the weekend. As a group of 8 it took about an hour to get a table at 11 am on a Sunday. The wait wasn't so bad cause they have board games and a bar. Food was AMAZING. Really really great, I suggest the omlet! Service was pretty bad but I think it's only cause they were so busy. Plates ranged from 6 to 12 bucks. A super packed veggie and meat omlet was 9.99, worth the price cause I couldn't even eat half. The pancakes are HUGE. I've tried this place three times, the first two times I just couldn't understand why people loved it so much. Sure it's cool that it's in a real diner car, but the food was never worth the always long wait. I think my problem was the eggs, I ordered an omlette the first two times. I could be wrong but I think they at least supplement the eggs with egg substitute, and it just ruins it. This last time I ordered french toast and added a side of bacon and it was SO good. I also had a few bites of coconut pie and that was really good too. So Hullabaloo, I'm glad I gave you a third chance because I will definitely be visiting more often and staying away from the eggs. read more

OVERALL: If you are looking for an authentic diner in Texas, you can't go wrong w/ this jt. A bit on the pricier side due to it's notoriety, but it is worth a try. Not sure what happen to the other reviewers, but I have been here at least twice a month when I still lived in the BCS area. The service has always been decent, with the exception of one server, that was gone within two or three weeks and the other servers would try and pick up her slack. It's an old time diner, so there service isn't 4 star, but my drinks were always topped off and the food arrived in a timely fashion. I had dinner there several times, always enjoyed what I got. Their breakfast is the best, love the homefries and the biscuits. They also have homemade hot chocolate, so good. Overall I thought the food was vastly superior to Chedder's, which it seems that everyone in the Bryan/College Station area adores. read more
