After spending the early part of the day at Cantigny Park, my party of 4 came to the Hummingbird for a late lunch. The service was very friendly and everything inside was clean and tidy. We visited this location once when it was Oakfield's and were really disappointed. They had so many positive reviews from Oakfields so we didn't trust the new reviews. We were hesitant when we saw the name change. Finally, we gave it a try and we are glad we did! I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes; they are delicious! My husband had the chicken and waffles; which he talked about the next day. On our next visit, we decided to go for lunch. The soups were hearty and well seasoned. The sandwiches were great. I had the BLT club, I didn't care for the fries at all, they were gross in my opinion. My son had the Turkey club, with sweet potato fries and my husband an avocado panini (California?). He liked this panini so much he got this on our third visit. This trip we had coffee and I really enjoy their coffee. It has a nutty note, the only complaint I have is there creamer selection is small and they really only have sweet and low, Equal and sugar. I usually use stevia. They have splenda but you have to ask for it. On our fourth visit, I ordered the stuffed avocado with gluten free toast. This is probably my favorite thing I have eaten here. I was completely satisfied and fulfilled. I could eat this everyday. It had the perfect balance of salt, fat from the avocado and plenty of fruit on the plate. My husband had the country fried steak and said that the gravy on the steak was excellent. This is a meal he has had at every local breakfast restaurant. He did say the eggs were under seasoned but he added his own salt to them and some hot sauce. We are regular diners at Red Apple Pancake House and Butterfields for over 11 years but the food and location of Hummingbird definitely competes right with them and there is never a wait. We have been to every local breakfast place you can think of and everyone has a favorite place, but this family owned place is worth your visit! read more

literally the worst service and it's consistent. everytime I have come here I'm either sitting there for 10 minutes before I'm even offered water. this Sunday has taken the cake. We walked in as a family of five and they seated two people that walked in right after us first. I don't think they're very good with big parties because we sat at our table for a good 15 minutes and nobody even offered us water coffee we walked right out. It's sad because the food is great, but the service is horrible I will never return again for the services. Poor customer Service. read more

First visit ... beautiful interior, wide menu, good prices, good food. Only disappointment was the HUGE big screen TV in the main dining room. Thankfully the sound ws off but it was still very distracting. When we asked our server (it was actually the cook) to change the channel or turn it off .. we were ignored .. and there was no one else watching it. (The TV was tuned to a politically-divisive channel.) We might try the restaurant one more time but perhaps not. We don't like our breakfast with a side of politics. read more

I noticed that this is a hot and new restaurant from the app. It was renamed recently and it was pretty good. I went for my first time staple dish, biscuits and gravy. It comes with 3 eggs and hashbrowns. They're kinda stingy with the amount of gravy served. Should have asked for the hashbrowns to be well-done too. This place is horrible. We were walking in thinking this was OAKFIELD RESTAURANT. They remodeled a little but still need to do a lot of work. Customer service was horrible and it is so obvious they wrote their own reviews on yelp. The day we went it was so hot in the place. I asked what kind of soup they had and she said split. I asked her to repeat the name and she said I think split. I have never heard of split soup so I passed. As we were leaving I see a sign in their lobby that say split pea soup was the soup of the day. Glad I passed. The waitress did not fully understand us when ordering and she brought my sons hamburger out with tomato. My son is a brat and will not eat his hamburger if the tomato touched the sandwich and he can taste it. We had her take it back and asked for it to be remade. They just removed the tomato and my son could tell. Not to mention the imprint of the tomato was melted on the cheese. This was a waste of money as my son would not eat his hamburger. They brought out fries instead of the onion rings he ordered. I will not return here, officially scratched off as a go to place to eat. I had to get up and ask for refills and more napkins. Our waitress was busy talking to her coworker. There were only three different parties in the whole restaurant. I miss OAKFIELD! read more

Since moving to Winfield in the fall, Hummingbird has become a favorite. My mom and I had late lunch on a weekday and loved it, and we went today after church and were treated like family. The service is exceptional and the food is delicious! I tried the chicken and waffles last time and I had it again. My mom enjoyed the Cuban sandwich with onion rings and she thought it was amazing! For what it is (Family Diner), I like it. Proximity to home helps. I do think it's an upgrade from its predecessor, Oakfield Diner. Don't expect anything fancy. But service was friendly and fast, food was decent, and the price was right. I was surprised to see poutine on the menu -- that was fun. Didn't try dessert yet, as DQ is right next door. read more

This place never disappoints. Everything we've tried has been wonderful. Today I had the Tilapia Tacos with Street Corn. It was fresh and very flavorful. My husband had an eggsalad sandwich. Now I normally don't like eggsalad but I tried it and it was excellent. Their breakfast is bountiful as well and one of our favorite morning places. Prices are very reasonable. We came here again last night. They've added music, which is a nice touch. We were pretty cold so we got the chicken noodle soup as soon as we walked through the door. It was really good. Full of flavor and you guessed it... chicken! We changed direction for our meal though. We have a tendency to order the same thing. We both decided on strawberry banana Nutella crepes! Delicious! I'm not one for overly sweet meals, but this one hit the spot. Maybe the contrast from the soup. We shared a side of bacon. The bacon was a bit over done. A surprise. I had this hankering for a tunafish sandwich. Arrived at this mini mall looking for a place to eat. The outside is humble looking; not very inviting. But the inside is cute, the service outstanding, and the food delicious. $10 for a tuna fish sandwich, fries, but the sandwich was so delicious, I went back again. For the people that have been going to the Jameson restaurant for their great clam chowder and maybe they have it that Friday maybe they don't well the Hummingbird restaurant there is no maybe every Friday you want Clam Chowder you got it. And Oh Baby it is far more superior than Jameson's or any other upper scale restaurant. And so is the rest of the food so far, have not had a bad plate yet. Cute little restaurant. We went for Sunday brunch around 11ish. Staff is very nice and prompt. They have some private "party" rooms if you have a larger party. I had a Greek style omlette, which was very tasty. They also have a pretty good kids menu for the littles. The bathrooms were clean and new, although small. With all the good reviews my husband and I decided to try their breakfast this morning. When we arrived we noticed the help wanted sign on the door. Usually not a good thing. But service was good. We were glad we went. I had an omelette. If you want to add something to their standard omelettes you can do that, just add a little to the bill. I had ham, cheese and tomato in my omelette. Yum. Done just right. The hash browns were very good. Why did I ask for rye toast? It was kind of dry but what should I expect of rye, my fault. My husband had the gypsy skillet. He really liked it. The eggs were done just right. And, to our surprise there were 3 eggs, not the 2 mentioned on their menu. Definitely returning! read more

My fiance and I decided to go here for Friday night dinner. I had the fish & chips (on special) and requested they make them extra crispy and smaller sizes. They made them just as I asked! Fiance had a burger with cheese curds. Food was SO good, service was over the top amazing, and prices very reasonable for what you get. We went for lunch with family. This place was amazing the food and serve were really good. I ordered the Irish skillet and was very please with it. The rest of my family ordered lunch and they all loved what they ordered. The French fries that came with their lunch are fresh cut fries and were delicious, hot and crispy. We didn't feel rushed and really enjoyed feeling very relaxed and able to talk. We also ended up ordering Fried Ice Cream for dessert. It was so good and big enough to feed everyone at the table. For this being a newer restaurant I think they are doing at great job! They opened the first part of June. The restaurant is clean and very nice. We will be back soon! My wife and I went in and tried it. The staff were nice and the Sevice was fine. My wife asked for potato chips and the waiter said they don't have chips so he said he'll figure something out. This is an excellent breakfast restaurant. A reviewer on Yelp suggested that its many positive reviews were fake and this caused me to wonder. But my Florentine Benedict was really excellent. They added thick crumbled bacon to the spinach which was a great addition. My friends said the pancakes were great and they looked great (!) as you can see in the photos on Yelp. This was a really solid place that I'll return to if I'm in this neck of the woods again. read more

Everyone needs a place like this on their list of local restaurants. We went in a few weeks back on a whim, had breakfast for dinner which I love.....what a pleasant surprise. Staff was great, food was very good, and its clean, nice, and a great place for any meal. Home cooking, simple, and I mean that in the best way possible. We have now been back four or five times, pop in for quick dinner on a Tuesday, and I am now a regular customer. So glad we found the Humming Bird restaurant! Have had mostly breakfasts, but, thus far everything has been very very good. A couple young guys seem to work there all the time, and I think they are hard workers, and very good at their jobs!
