Authentic Chinese food. I got 2 dishes: the chef special fish in soup and eggplant with garlic sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly well and the soup it was soaked in was quite salty, but delicious. Apparently it takes the chef 15 days to prepare this type of dish. The eggplant had a nice soft texture and it was mixed in a traditional chili garlic sauce. It goes well with white rice. One of the most authentically Chinese restaurants that I have been to in the Austin area. I came with a large group so we ordered a large number of dishes, all of which were amazing. The one dish that I gotta try at every Hunan/Sichuan restaurant is the Chong Qing spicy chicken (重庆辣子鸡) and I must say it did not disappoint here. Don't be deterred by the large amount of peppers in the dish, that's the authentic way to cook it; just use your chopsticks to pick the chicken out and you'll be fine! read more

I could leave a 0 star review for this place. Terrible service. I ordered my food by phone they told me it would take an hour. After waiting more than an hour，they said it still needed 30 mins. Horrible experience. I paid 15% per-tax tips and about to leave. The manager interpreted me and said the tips was not enough and there's a minimum tips policy so she wanted to force me to pay that amount. What the heck is minimum tips policy? She said my tip is less than 12%. The funniest part is that she calculated after-tax percent and wanted me to pay tips for tax. Excuse me? I can pay any amount of tips as I want. That's totally based on your service. And sorry the service was just poor and the dishes were served in plastic one-time plate. 15% tips is definitely overrated your service lady. We went tried it for the first time today and really liked the food! The restaurant is small but it's clean and cozy. We ordered the Sliced Beef and Ox Tripe in Chili Sauce (夫妻肺片），Lion Head Meat Ball (獅子頭）, Salted Egg Yolk Pumpkin （鹹蛋黃焗南瓜）, Sautéed Pepper and Potherb Mustard with Preserved Fish （雪菜尖椒黃魚脯）, Riddle Cooked Cauliflower with Preserved Pork （乾鍋花菜臘肉）, West Lake Sugar Lotus （西湖糖藕）, and the Dry Sautéed Green Bean （乾煸四季豆）. We liked all of the dishes we ordered. They only had two servers tonight and the restaurant was packed but servers were pretty attentive to our needs and maintained a friendly attitude the whole time amidst the craziness. I quit yelping but I had to for this place. They hv some traditional n also fast food. Online menu only has fast food. But the lady was very nice on the phone to get all the dishes I want that I found on Yelp. Even called me back to make sure I'm ok with one dish that has chicken bone. Now, they're not too busy because of hurricane Harvey. But to call me back, that's still too nice. Pot belly wth gravy was very fatty n tender..delicious. If u don't like fatty food, not ur dish. Egg plant with garlic sauce was good. Oily is expected because hot oil gets it soft. Personal opinion, it is better than Asia cafe. The rice is not cheap quality. Lunch menu is reasonably price. The pot stickers were deep fried. A bit weird and certainly not pot stickers but not bad. I noticed, out of 13 customers, we were the only non Chinese so a assume their food is pretty authentic but for my taste I don't like beef that is jellied or Hunan beef that is swimming in hot chilly oil. Great authentic food! I was surprised by some of the dishes they served which were nothing like anything I've really had before at other Asian cuisine restaurants. I appreciated how the menu wasn't super long, which usually indicates the dishes they do prepare are well made by chefs experienced in preparing these plates. Last week when eating at Happy Family near UT, two Asian grad students told me that Hunan Bistro was their favorite and really authentic. I was near here for lunch without my less adventurous wife, so I tried it. The hot and sour soup was just ok after I put some chili paste in it. I have not yet been able to find really good h&s soup in Austin. Being adventurous, I tried the chicken gizzards with pickled beans, prepared extra spicy. What a treat! The knife work had the gizzards sliced and chopped very thin such that you would not know it was gizzard. I like gizzards. The pickled beans were subtle in their pickling and mixed with peppers in a light sauce were unique to my palate. A very tasty dish. I don't know what authentic Chinese food is but I do know good food and this was it. My server was helpful but a little surprised that I ordered this dish and asked for it extra spicy.
