Shrimp fried rice with no shrimp
    Lyly D.

Over $17 for shrimp fried rice and no shrimp chunks of unfried white rice . Terrible service. I really hate the meals I've gotten at this place the last few times.

After watching the Netflix food series of the Korean Sweet and sour pork I wanted to try some to get my take on the comparison of Chinese sweet and sour pork. The combo was $18.95 which in my opinion is pretty high for this dish. It does come in a large size plate but it does not come with rice. First thought is the sweet and sour is very very mild. The sauce is very thick and more corn starch slurry consistency. The fried pork was crispy but as time pass became soggy due to the sauce was pour all over it. You can barely see the pork in the batter or taste it. The pork is very thin thin pieces. I like the ear wood mushrooms but over all I was not a fan of this dish. I prefer 99 ranch hot food shop's sweet and sour pork ribs. It's light fried touch and you can taste the meat. The sauce is more bolder for sweet and sour pork and you get chunks of pineapples which I love. It's all a personal preference. Do I recommend Paik'S Noodle? I tried their black bean noodles and now their sweet sour pork, both mediocre. I definitely think there are better Korean authentic restaurants out there that make these dishes way better.

I've always known paik's noodle was good because I have so many friends that always order the jjajangmyun from there. But I finally tried them today and got their jjampong. I was surprised by how many different variations they had, and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they all included seafood too. So we got the beef jjampong, which came out with lots of both beef and seafood. The noodles were the perfect texture! They had a slight chew and a slight bounce, and absorbed the broth so well. It came with lots of toppings. And the broth was so homey and hit the spot. And the serving was huge which was nice!

Tried their Chinese-Korean fusion food and honestly, it was pretty underwhelming. The fried rice was dry and definitely needed more flavor and spice. I was surprised they didn't even have hot sauce available, which was disappointing. The vegetable noodles were okay in taste but, again, fell flat without the kick of seasoning. Overall, nothing terrible, but nothing that would make me want to go back.

I've been to multiple Paik's Noodle locations before and this one is pretty consistent with the others! It's located within the Hmart food court, which is a pretty bustling spot especially around dinnertime. I always go for the jjamppong and it never disappoints. Service is really fast and efficient, you pay at the counter and pick up your food once it's ready. It's a big food court so there's plenty of seating options. Jjamppong ($13.95, 5/5) - Classic spicy seafood noodle soup. Broth is warm and full of flavor. - Tons of toppings in the broth, noodles are nice and chewy. My friend got the jjamppong as well, and also the tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork). We both agreed that the tangsuyuk's flavor/texture was off since it mostly just tasted like the fried breading/exterior with very little actual meat, so wouldn't recommend getting that at this location at least. Otherwise Paik's Noodle is a great, affordable spot if you're looking for some good jjamppong! Would highly recommend.

I'm glad my friend told me to get the extra meat version of my dish, which came out with a normal amount of protein. It would be very little if I had ordered the standard version. Overall heavy on the noodles, light on the protein same thing happened with seafood version I ordered a previous time. Large portions which you could easily split with two people. I had left overs. It was good nothing mind blowing, a little too saucy imo. Cashier was not really attentive when trying to order and pay. This is located in the general dining hall at H-mart. They have live music on the weekends and after you eat you can explore all the fun Asian treats at the grocery store attached next door. Huge parking lot but don't be surprised if you have to park on the last row it's almost always busy.

I was craving for Tangsuyuk, but unfortunately, this place was very underwhelming. Tangsuyuk sauce is pretty decent, but the meat is barely there, it's mostly the batter.

Tangsuyuk is normally a wonderful sweet and sour fried pork dish if executed well. Let me describe Paik's version of this. You have bits of pork starched up and fried. At this food court location, they are unseasoned, bland, and uninteresting. To serve, they first pour sweet and sour sauce onto the bottom of a dining vessel, then stack the fried pork on top. Interestingly, their sweet and sour sauce is also bland; it's neither sweet nor sour in any considerable way. When you receive this dish, you might wonder why there is no sweet and sour sauce coating the fried pork. The answer is because they have hidden the sauce at the bottom, and even if you were to sauce up the fried pork yourself, you'd question why you opted to order this travesty of a dish anyways, since this sauce does not complete the dish. In conclusion: 1. The fried pork is bland, unseasoned. 2. The pork is not coated in sauce hiding at the bottom. 3. The sauce itself is bland and neither sweet nor sour in any respectable way. 4. Bonus: I'd imagine they use a rice cooker. But I suppose they don't know how to operate one, or they don't use the correct ratio of rice to water. It's like al denté rice, but with the wrong texture.

The service was super quick and the food was great. We got to walk around and look at H-Mart while waiting. The Jajangmyon was REALLY good!! It was warm, saucy, and the noodles were soft!! I would definitely order it again :)) I was a little disappointed that the Jeangban Jajang wasn't spicy, but it was still really good and had a good seafood mix, but it had only 3 shrimps lol. Since this was in a food court, there were loads of clean tables and other food restaurants, it was easy to find a place to sit.

We loved the Paik's in Mountain View, CA and were so excited that a location was opening by us! Unfortunately this wasnt quite as great as we remembered. Its good, but nothing incredible. Id recommend if you are at H Mart and are craving noodles, but wouldnt make a special trip. The issue with these noodles vs the ones we tried before is they were way over-sauced. It also felt like there was a 1:1 noodle to onion ratio. The noodles themselves however are still top notch. I hope they adjust the recipe in the future!

    Alan H.

I originally tried Paik's noodle in California and was excited to see a chain come to Austin! My experience was a bit different. I think since the service is not a restaurant but a food court it limits the amount of pickled daikon. We ordered the Jaengban-jjajang and it had good flavor and soft chewy noodles. But the dish had so much onion and not so much seafood. Maybe a total of 5 shrimp which is disappointing seeing how the price is newly $20.

Ordered the creamy shrimp and this is what it looked like. No place serves creamy shrimp that looks like this

Ordered the Creamy Shrimp and it doesn't even look like the picture they had and no place serves it like this. This was $20

Located in the bustling hmart food court! Jaebanjjajang ($18.99): is like a jajangmyon with seafood. We got a spicy level 2 and it felt like nothing wondering if they forgot to put spice or is it just not spicy at all. I like their noodles - they're thicker than I'm used to. The black bean sauce is on the sweeter side. Portions are enough for 2! Could use a little more seafood but overall I'd still eat it if I was craving jajangmyeon with like a serving a protein. tangsuyuk ($13.99): battered and fried pork pieces with a sweet sauce. It's served with the sweet-vinegary sauce together & it won't taste like much if it didn't get sauce on it. A little too bland and i feel like the sauce is missing the flavor a bit or maybe it isn't drenched enough in the sauce. Has a mochi-like texture to it (which I like). If you like your pork crispy, maybe ask to get the sauce on the side. (But a good tangsuyuk dish should still be somewhat crispy when drenched in sauce tho)

There were water, bowls, utensils, and sauces in the lobby for anyone to grab, which was nice. We ordered their cucumber salad, beef noodle soup, and lamb noodle soup. Cucumber salad was 2/5. It wasn't the authentic smashed cucumber salad, the flavor was missing something, and I mean, for $7 or $8, you would think it would be amazing....it's not. Pretty disappointing, I'd much rather have my sister's over these. Beef noodle soup was meh. Nothing special. Broth was very simple, like they just added salt and that's it. Meat was cooked very well. My soup came with 1 piece of lettuce, weird.. Lamb noodle soup was the same as the beef noodle soup; it did come with the black fungus, seaweed, tofu, and some vermicelli clear noodles, along with their handmade noodles. Made sense why it was only $13.95 for the noodle soups. It's reasonably priced probably due to not being authentic, though, I wouldn't pay more than $10. They had handmade noodles, which many people do like. However, their noodles were very bland, along with their soup. I didn't find anything special here either. Maybe I'll get their dumplings or fried noodles the next time we come, but it's a no for me.

The bowl itself came loaded with meat--they definitely weren't skimping to save money here. The meat-to-noodle ratio felt great, and every bite actually had substance instead of leaving me fishing around for toppings. As for the broth, I landed somewhere in the middle. It wasn't quite as clear or light as I personally prefer, leaning toward a fattier, milkier undertone that almost reminded me of a Vietnamese pho take on tonkotsu. The flavor itself was undeniably very good, but the richness may have been a bit too much for me personally. One way I usually judge how much I love a pho broth is whether I want to sip the bowl down to the very end, and this one wasn't quite light enough for me to want to do that. I've had richer and deeper pho flavors elsewhere, but I still appreciated the flavor profile here and could absolutely see why this place is so popular. It feels hearty, comforting, and satisfying in a way that clearly resonates with many people. Despite how packed the restaurant was, the atmosphere ended up being surprisingly pleasant. Service moved very quickly, which honestly impressed me given how busy everything felt. Even with the crowd, I didn't dislike the spacing or setup at all--the restaurant still felt comfortable, and the sound of people enjoying their food all around added to the lively, welcoming energy rather than making it feel overwhelming. Overall, Pho Phong Lưu ended up being one of those places where I completely understood the hype, even if it didn't become my personal favorite pho spot. While the broth leaned richer than my preference, I still enjoyed the experience and definitely look forward to trying other dishes next time.

The reason is simple: we ate here two years ago, and it left such a great impression on us that we had been looking forward to coming back ever since. Fortunately, not much has changed in terms of either the quality or the overall presentation of the food. Everything is still delicious, especially the Pho Combo. To be honest, it's far better than most of the pho we've had in Germany. That doesn't mean the pho in Germany is bad--it simply means this place matches my personal taste much better. As for the downsides, they're almost exactly the same as before. Parking is still a major challenge, and I understand that's probably not something the restaurant can easily fix. We also tried calling ahead to reserve a table, but they don't take reservations, whether you're coming with a group of 5-7 people or just 2-3 people. We arrived at 6:45 PM and still had to wait about 40 minutes before being seated, which was honestly quite inconvenient. Coincidentally, there was live music tonight, which was a nice surprise. Unfortunately, the sound system wasn't very good, so it was difficult to hear what the singers were performing. Then again, this isn't really the type of venue where people come specifically to enjoy live music, so most diners didn't seem to pay much attention to it. One thing I did notice was that either the kitchen has made a few changes over the past two years, or perhaps my own taste has changed a little. The food felt slightly saltier than I remembered, and the pho broth was richer and creamier. While that added some depth of flavor, it was a bit too rich for my liking, to the point where finishing the entire bowl of broth felt a little overwhelming. The braised short ribs were incredibly tender--so tender that a knife was almost unnecessary, and they could easily be pulled apart with just a fork. While many people would probably see that as a positive, I actually missed the slightly firmer, meatier texture I remembered from my last visit. That said, these are relatively minor issues. The quality may have dipped just a little compared to our previous visit, but this is still an excellent restaurant. If they can fine-tune those small details, it would easily return to being one of my favorite places. There's a good chance we'll stop by one more time before heading back to Germany.

Is it that time of year for another 1618 update? Absolutely…read more After my umpteenth visit, I think it's safe to say I've worked my way through almost the entire menu (minus a few noodle, chicken & vegetarian dishes). My 2025 review still stands, but after so many visits, I've noticed a few items haven't been good as they used to, particularly the chicken wings (and yes, all three of them). The Garlic Wings haven't been hitting quite the same. They've started to taste a little dry, and the saucier wings taste better the next day since they don't have time to steep through once served. The Filet Mignon Pepper Steak is still my favorite dish on the menu, but I still can't justify ordering it family-style anymore. It's delicious, but the portion just doesn't match the price. One of the newest additions--the Truffle Fried Rice is spectacular. It's light, not overpowering with truffle, and the fish eggs really adds the perfect little pop of texture/flavor. I don't think I breathed the entire time I scarfed it down!! 1618 is still one of my favorite restaurants in Austin of all time, but I think it's time for the menu to elevate a bit and dive deeper into less mainstream Asian cuisine. If anyone can do it, 1618 can.
