This place is great. It has the best Chinese/Korean cuisine I've had in VA so far. Much better than the places in Annandale. It is in a small strip mall on Telegraph Square Dr. and not on Telegraph road. If you google Telegraph road, you will end up in a residential neighborhood. I recommend the Jajangmyeon-steamed noodles served in a lightly-flavoured black bean paste Jjamppong-spicy noodle soup with seafood or meat. Tangsuyuk (Korean: , Chinese: -Sweet and sour pork. For a place outside Annandale (and with a name that suggests chinese food), this place has surprisingly good korean food. It is quite small, with seating for maybe 20 people, and it is far from fancy, but it is clean and bright. The jajangmyeon was quite good, with noodles that weren't soggy and with a nice, earthy sauce. The bi bim bap was also very good, and had a lot of different veggies in it, unlike some places that only put two or three things in it with the rice. The best "real" food that I have in the neighborhood for lunch out, while at work. Don't let the name fool you the gem here is the Korean food, from b-b-q pork, beef, chicken to squid stewed in chili sauce to a vast array of pleasantly pungent soups. My favs include the jae yuk jap chae (bbq pork) and the spicy seafood soup with noodles, zucchini, scallions, mussels, prawns, squid and a spicy chili infused broth the conjures memories of the ocean. Don't be shy about trying the chilled barley tea to offset the heat of the dishes. Not priced for everyday dining @ $9 a lunch but impeccably fresh, pleasantly spicy and very satisfying. You might easily pass by the place if not searching for it; however, Hunan Deli is a great little (and I do mean Little!) restaurant located in a rather industrial strip along Telegraph Road. The food is a mix of Korean and Korean-style Chinese fare. Don't expect anything fancy with bags of rice stacked nearby. The price is a little high, but you can enjoy quite a few delectable delights from their table menu (aside from the handwritten one on the wall) such as, Tang Soo Yook (Sweet and Sour Pork), and Bulgogi Chop Chae (barbequed beef strips with rice and clear noodles). My wife and I found this place by accident. We wanted to try thai box next door but it was unfortunately closed. My wife immediately walked in next door to Hunan Deli and started looking over the menu. This place was a great find. We ordered bi bim bap, Szechuan pork tang su yuk and bulgogi. The portions were huge, the food was delicious and we left satisfied and stuffed. The table across with the four elderly Korean gentlemen seemed quite content, drinking their soju and eating a massive mountain of noodles split four ways. Definitely worth a comeback. Would have given it five stars but the decor may be a bit underwhelming as the chopsticks were held by the remains of half a plastic water bottle held down with marbles! Great little Korean spot. Food is really flavorful and a decent size menu. I had the bulgogi and the bibimbop. Both were awesome, the bulgogi had a slight sweetness to it that was nice. I ordered the bibimbap & mandu soup (dumpling soup)...and both were very disappointing. The bibimbap did not have the veggies/toppings it usually comes with... and I got a very small portion of meat. I didn't even take the leftovers home. The dumpling soup was better than the bibimbap but still very disappointing. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes there...or maybe it's because we're Korean. Having lived in Korea, I was excited about the Deli. Somewhat surprised, since its not a Deli and really not Chinese (Hunan). It looked to be legit Korean, so that was fine, and I've lived in Korea, and love non-apologetic authentic Korean fare. However, what we got was somewhat americanized, extra large portion, slightly average classic dishes. Bulgogi was not particulary flavorfull, but there was a ton of it, with an excessive amount of vegetables, the seafood soup didn't have the normal variety and the broth wasn't particuraly tasty and it contained the fallback and inexpensive american spaghetti noodles. We also ordered two other large entrees, same experience. The price was initally high, IMO, more $$ than $, but you do get quite a bit of food. Seafood was very fresh, but overall the menu needs some tuning. read more

About three years ago they remodeled and made a more inviting sit down diner for their customers, and I think they also shortened their menu to strictly Korean dishes. I am unashamed to say that I am completely addicted to the rich flavors in the owner/chef's recipes. Have you ever had food so good you can remember it and nearly smell and taste it weeks later? That's Hunan Deli. I love all sorts of cuisines and Hunan made me a big Korean food fan. Even so, I have yet to get the same taste from other Korean style restaurants whose prices are double the value as Hunan. There's usually only one waitress taking orders, serving the food, and doing the register. You have to try their jjambbong and pork gan jjajang. This place is not to be confused with American Chinese food, this is more like your authentic Korean-Chinese you can find in Seoul. Tried the Jjam Bbong and the fire stir-fried vegetables and the hae mul together in the spicy broth goes excellent with what I believe are hand made handmade noodles. We are new the area and wanted a good Asian food for dinner. We found this place on line and so we decided to give it a try. The place is small and all tables were taken and it looked like it was going to be awhile. So my husband and I decided to just go with take out. Really.. no regrets. Let me just say that this place is absolutely amazing! Our take out was ever so more than other places who would plate our take out trays. It is plenty. And I so appreciated it. Not only that they weren't skimpy , the flavor of the food was on point! We ordered, hunan beef, jap chae & ton katsu. Oh not to mention we also came home with all the sides. It was plenty was way too much. Not complaining..I just want to say so worth the wait and $. The lady and cooks were excellent and gave good customer service. Fans of hole-in-the-wall family style restaurants ... this is the place for you. I've been there three times and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The first time I ordered the Ojinga Bokum (braised squid w/ veggies and spicy sauce) and it came with a nice selection of kimchi. The second time I ordered the Bul-Gow Jap Chae (beef w/ veggies and noodles), and it again came with kimchi. The third time got the Ja Jang Myon (noodles w/ black bean sauce) as takeout, but apparently no kimchi comes with takeout. Also, by the time I got back the noodles were softer than I would have liked; however, the sauce was great, and had I gotten it fresh it would have been quite good. They also have a selection of Asian beers and alcohol, but I have not tried any of those ... a bit early to drink at lunch during a work day. The specials are written on a white-board. They don't seem to change, but they also have a menu with more food. Sadly, no takeout menu or website, so I posted a photo of the Korean lunch specials. Honey Pig and Iron Age ain't got nothing on this place. Portions are huge and cheap. The ingredients are super fresh. The facility is really small and sometimes it gets really loud in there when old Korean guys start drinking Soju but that's fine. Easily one of the best Korean-Chinese restaurants in the area... Easily! You couldn't tell from the outside though, it looks unassuming, in a small strip mall, small restaurant, generic name, few seats, not hidden, but certainly anonymous. These are one those rare discoveries. Its a family-run business, and you would have to wonder why its so far out of Korean-centric areas like Ananndale. But this place trumps them all. What makes this place special is the preparation and attention to detail. The perennial favorite noodle dishes, Jajang-myeon (black soybean noodles) and Jjamppong have the noodles themselves made by hand. In the summer, they serve Korean cold noodles, Naengmyeon. The noodles again are handmade, the soup is thick and delicious, and always cold. You can tell they spend a lot of time with the broth for the mul-naengmyeon. Lots of detail, lots of love, and lots of pride. Lots of places serve this dish, but not quite like here. The deep-fried sweet and sour pork, Tangsuyuk, is amazing here. Fresh fried. Perfect amount of vinegar sourness and sweetness to match the fresh fried crispy pork. Eat it here, don't carry out. Another example is the yaki-mandu. Most Korean restaurants in the ares will only fry or boil these dumplings; the reason is that its much easier to prepare. Here they will pan-fry them for you, and they are again excellent. First its called Hunan Deli but it really specializes in Korean cuisine and its simply outstanding. The quality is just through the roof for this unassuming, hole-in-the-wall restaurant located in a rather gloomy brown brick strip mall on Telegraph road. Especially given the prices. You'd probably pass by it w/o thinking twice, but that would be your mistake.:) Granted its cramped, not much for comfort space wise but for what they put on your plate who really cares. Each meal of course comes with banchan, the Korean small dishes served first usually comprising of highly seasoned pickled vegetables. Here, you'll get kimchi, pepper slices seasoned with the red paste, the processed fish strips, and their version of slaw. I usually get spicy pork belly platter or the kimchi soup. Both amazingly satisfying. The staff looks to be mostly Korean in the kitchen but they'll also get some help as well. Regardless, you're getting Korean food made by actual Koreans which is often a gripe among NOVAers as to who exactly is making the food in the kitchen. Oh and yes you can clearly see the kitchen from behind the counter, that's how small this place is. A special acknowledgement here goes to the lady who is the sole waitress. She is awesome and full of hustle. I make sure to always give her a good tip. She deserves one 10 fold as she dodges chairs, tables, coming and going customers in this cramped dinning area to make sure you get your meal. The kitchen staff is awesome as well. And yes you can tell that based on the above they get quite the business during lunch hour. I love this place and there's no reason you should either especially if you like Korean food. read more

Friendly service and great food! Even though the name has Hunan which one would think Chinese, it is mainly Korean. Lots of entrees to choose from and everything is cooked to order. Prices are reasonable. For example a Bimbimbop or Kimchi Jiggae costs $8.99. This is a small family restaurant with one waitress and two cooks. This place is awesome! read more

Don't let the name fool you, this place has LEGIT Korean food. It's hidden in a little strip mall, but the food is no joke. This is probably in my top 2 for ja jang myun and jjam bong in all of Nova.
