Every time I come here the service is pretty good and food tastes good. I like the wonton soup the most. But unfortunately they do have a lot of salt in the dishes so be careful. I never really noticed it until i had Hunan for lunch and later in the day my fingers felt swollen and I just felt very bloated. This is a great place to order out from. I tried this place twice. The first time their Chinese rice was not fresh and had a weird taste) and the dish I ordered was too salty. The second time, the rice was ok but the shrimp on my dish had a bad smell (fishy) that I tried to overlook until I tasted one piece that was absolutely disgusting. I complained to the owner and she admitted she received fishy shrimp that morning. I went back the second time because my husband wanted to try their specialty and based on most of the good reviews, I wanted to give them another chance. Wrong!! This is our neighborhood Chinese restaurant and it has gotten much better with the new owners. Everything we have tried we have truly enjoyed. They also offer a vegetarian menu that is really good! The portions are large and if taken home can make for a couple of meals. The people that work there are efficient and kind. Susan draws beautiful pictures of my girls and they made my shy nephew happy with a folded paper gun. Not only did they just inform me that they don't have anything that is actually vegestarian but the owner thought it would be useful to argue with me about why my "vegetarian" tofu dish suddenly has pork in it after 2 years of ordering the same non- meat order. You have a restaurant in a region that demographically has a population of vegetarians. Why you would think that I would know that your vegetarian menu now contains meat products? Don't go here if you have any dietary or moral restrictions. Went in for some wonton soup to warm up on this chilly day. I also ordered veggie egg rolls. Since I was pressed for time with a million things to do I opted to phone in my order for take out. The gentleman who answered was very pleasant. My order was ready when I got there and carefully packaged with all the fixings. The soup was piping hot and as much as I wanted to love it, just wasn't the case. The wontons tasted raw. Not much flavor in the broth. Wasn't the worse I've ever had, def not the best. I walked in, seeing the open sign on. I was greeted by the new owners, and wonderfully new decor. The change is so bright. They allowed me to peruse the menu, and offered me a cold glass of water while I waited. And then, I'm offered soup to take home as well. I can hear my order being cooked. I knew that Hunan Garden was under new ownership so I talked my friend into going to lunch there today. We got there just before noon. The floor was wet from cleaning, even thought the restaurant sign said 11 am for the opening time. We were seated immediately and before we had a chance to look at the lunch menu for more than 2 minutes, the owner asked us what kind of soup we'd like. We both got egg flower. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken and my friend got Sweet and Sour Pork. The soup was very bland, we both added salt and pepper. I don't usually add salt and pepper at Asian restaurants. The soup was a bit gelatinous, but truly unflavored. The entrees were generous for lunch, and they came out quickly, but this was the most tasteless Kung Pao I have ever had. I ordered it spicy. It was bland and did not get better as I tried to eat it. The owner never came by to ask how the food was. She sent another employee over with boxes to go, and I took the food home, but I don't think I will be able to eat it. She gave us the check quickly, did not act professionally to see how we liked the food, and not only will I never go there again, I warn you, Yelp readers to stay away. The original owners have a restaurant with the same name in Oxnard. Get Thai food in Camarillo instead at Charn or Sawadee, or Chinese at Chesters or Peking, but not this place. read more

I had to write an update - I read the one stars and started to laugh. Most of them are ads for other restaurants or just mean people. Then I realized their reviews are up and readable. We had diner their last night. A fried tofu hot pot with ginger and bamboo shoots, and a beef with peppers dish over bean sprouts with black mushrooms. They also serve a soup with fish and fresh vegetables that is AMAZING. All the vegies are fresh and the food is excellent. NEVER had a bad meal, and they always serve tea. We ordered for a group of 25 for delivery. They went out of their way to accommodate our requests. Very friendly. Food came on time and hot. Vegetables in the dishes were very fresh. We had Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian beef, and Shrimp / Broccoli. First two dishes tasted great. The shrimp dish was a little bit bland but luckily they brought us hot mustard and hot red sauce. The portions were very large, more than we were expecting. We are looking forward to becoming regular customers of this place. read more

Ok i am updating what used to be a 1 star review... this place used to be depressing and the staff used to be arrogant and rude. The new owners are nothing like the old, they are super friendly, the place is warm and inviting they got rid of all the clutter and dark and gloominess in their dining area. The food is excellent, the pricing is reasonable and the wait time is short... i love this place again and am so happy to have a good chinese food option in mission oaks. Fast for togo also. Honestly I was shocked to see the difference between what people are saying on Yelp versus in person, because I had really terrible service and the two wait staff were really rude to my friend and I. I had a beer and a shot of sake, not enough to get me drunk or even affect me(this will come in later in the review). Shortly after getting our entrees my friend asked for extra sauce and the lady straight up said no and walked away and then a couple of minutes later said there was only one cook working right now and he's busy. I worked in high end kitchens for the last 7 years and when the cooks were busy the wait staff would get extra sauces and stuff for their customers when they asked so I am not sure why she couldn't have done that. After we finished the food, I stepped outside to smoke but we both agreed that we weren't going to leave a tip just because of the horrible service. So as my friend payed the bill, she asked what was the tip and he said it's on the table so as we were about to leave she came out of the restaurant and came up to my car and was like there was no tip on the table, so I gave her a dollar because that's all I had and she refused it saying that she only accepts 18% tips, and that she was just going to charge my friend's card, even though we told her no then we refused to leave her a tip if she doesn't want a dollar then. Then she started yelling at us saying she was going to call the cops saying we were drunk driving and wrote down my license plate. I am a 6 foot tall 300 pound person a 3% beer and a shot of sake and then food isn't going to affect me one bit. I am extremely mad at my experience about all this. If I could I would honestly leave negative stars because of this but I can't so a 1 star is the best I can do, whatever you do avoid this place at all cost, my friend said it was good in the past but I guess with these new owners they're okay with the servers acting this way and treating their customers like this. I went in the other day not knowing they did not open until 11:30am. It was 11:15am and the door was open. I walked in and the lady came running to the front from the kitchen to rush me out. I said can I take a menu she acted all annoyed and told me, yeah, fine, go take a menu with an attitude but were not open until 11:30am and rushed me out. I walked out and tossed the menu away. I am not going to criticize several written negative comments because I realize food is subjective and people like different food and the way it is prepared. However, I will give you my impression of Hunan Garden. I live in the Santa Rosa Valley so I have access to at least 12 or so Chinese restaurants in this immediate area. I am 90 years old and have lived around here for 65 years. I like Chinese food so I have tried them all. I suppose I eat Chinese food about three times a week since my wife passed away. There is nothing better than good Chinese food and nothing worse than bad Chinese food. There are several bad ones around. There are also two or three really good ones around. However, I don't go to them any more because as good as they are they are second best to Hunan Gardens. Why would I choose second best when I can get the best right here. Just an old man talking? Maybe! But my single best dish at any restaurant in all of Ventura County is Filet Mignon with Black Pepper here at Hunan Garden. The meat is outstanding because they use real filet mignon that is so tender it melts in your mouth. I suppose if I were to choose a last supper meal NS this would be it. I stop by and often get their luncheon special which are so large they often tied me over for the rest of the day. My favorite lunch special is Mongolian Beef and Chicken chop suey which is not even on the menu. Hunan Garden has been a life-saver for me during this pandemic. If you really are not too particular then try one of the other Chinese restaurants in the Conejo. Bob read more

They are soo rude! The food was good, a little on the pricey side though for what you get. It's as if they are doing you a favor because you chose to got there to eat. I just placed an order for delivery and am left amazed. I was quoted a delivery time of 30 min and it was at my house in less than 20 min. I live in a complicated condo complex where delivery drivers ALWAYS have to call for directions. So to be under the quoted time without a phone is amazing in itself. Today I called to ordered lunch as i always do, As this unprofessional establishment decided to tell me that they were not going to deliver to my house any longer due to my tip not being sufficient last time. I tip the driver every time but apparently this time was not good enough. Absolutely ridiculous for an establishment to suddenly decide to not deliver due to the fact the delivery boy was not satisfied with his tip. Hunan Garden - Chinese Near Me - Camarillo, California

Great Chinese food in Camarillo. Everything is fresh and they make all of their own sauces. There are a number of "American"-style Chinese dishes on their menu (to cater to clientele, I'm sure) but they are cooked with an authentic twist. Today, my husband ordered the orange chicken off of the lunch menu and it was delicious. It's not your Panda Express orange chicken, that's for sure. It had a great dark sauce with full flavor. If there is something that you want to order that is not on the menu, you should try to ask for it. They are pretty open to preparing more traditional Chinese food if you want it. Also, the chef prepares a special, more traditional Chinese dish every Thursday for dinnertime pick-up (5pm). You need to get on his distribution list and early in the week he will text everyone a picture of the special dish he is cooking that Thursday. If you want to order one (or two or three), you just text him back and let him know how many you want. Then, on Thursday you pick up your meal(s) at 5:00. We spoke to the chef today and you can tell that he takes great pride in his cooking. Great restaurant! read more

We took our leftovers home (lots as we didn't eat much of it there), and the leftovers just sat in the fridge until we threw them away. We've frequented Hunan Garden on and off for 15 years and have enjoyed the food and the owners have always been friendly however the last two times we stopped in for dinner made us decide we weren't going to go back again. - We walked over on a Friday night, there were people eating, people waiting to be seated and people waiting to pay their bill but no one in sight to assist. We waited about 5 minutes and no one came out from the back kitchen. We left! - About a month later we thought we'd try again....we walked over, there were 3 tables occupied and several tables dirty. When the owner came out we asked to sit in the corner table....she told us no and that we could sit at a specific table ne'er the front door which wasn't acceptable to us. As a long time customer, I saw no reason why she wouldn't want to accommodate us. She was rude, so we left. We've since talked to neighbors who have recommended a few other restaurants for us to try read more
