We tried Hunan Garden for the first time. My husband got wor wonton soup and I got Mongolian beef dinner. It came with hot & Sour soup, which wasn't hot, too much carrots, I didn't see the mushrooms and very little tofu! The Mongolian beef had more yellow onions and carrots than beef lots of rice but not much entree. My husband's wor wonton had soup but only two small shrimp and the veggies were raw. This will be the last time we go there!!! My meal was $17 and his soup was $14 not worth the money. So disappointed. A literal hole-in-the-wall. Our takeout sesame chicken was ready quickly and when promised. Not transcendent, but sweet, crispy and white meat-based, and a solid value. Alas the cheese wontons weren't quite our style, but we're pretty good at making those on our own to our own taste. I ordered the Kung Pao Chicken. It was the worst I have ever eaten. The sauce was bland. The same for the side of rice. Tasted like it had been sitting around for months after being cooked. Very bland as well. The best part of the meal was the egg flower soup. Even that had room for improvement. I would never eat their food again. The DoorDash app crashed last night and so I phoned in my order, was told 35 minutes. My phone directed me to an old address and so I was 15 minutes later they originally told me. Once I arrived, it was another 20 minute wait. Wish I would have looked in the bag at my food before I left, totally disgusting! Since Covid, we have order from HUNAN GP3x n I find their Chinese food to be excellent! Coming from Hawaii, where we have lots of Chinese restaurants, I rate this to Grants Pass restaurant to be my fav so far. We liked their portions and the fact that most of the entree type dishes comes with a side of rice. For one order of Mongolian Beef, Shrimp Walnut, Sweet sour chicken, we had 3 generous scoops of rice. (some places CHARGE extra for the rice). On our 2nd visit, I was disappointed with the small tiny pieces of meat in their Mongolian beef. Chef Bin, offered me 50% on my next order which was a nice touch. They try to please. Unfortunately, the steep price change is not warranted for the food quality anymore. This used to be my favorite Chinese food place in town & after tonight, I will need to take an extra long break, though I'm sure I'll give them another chance in the future. $17.49 for some orange chicken, sub lo mein noodles for steamed rice. The noodles were mushy, the veggies in the noodles were off-color & over cooked & some piece of the chicken tasted funny as well as some chunks were so overcooked, they were inedible. Also, they didn't fill the small container all the way. When you order to go, they don't give you a fortune cookie, napkins, a fork or soy sauce anymore. I had to bother her to ask for napkins & she gave me 2. It seems like maybe they're barely able to keep the doors open at this point, but please don't take it out on the customer who is choosing your restaurant's outrageous inflation prices over other restaurants' outrageous inflation prices. The public is what keeps businesses open. I'm sure money is tight for them, but the dining room & little Asian snack area/shelves needs some TLC. I seriously feel like they won't be in business too much longer & it's a damn shame cause they've been around for at least 2 decades & had extremely affordable, delicious food. read more

We've tried several different Chinese places in Grants Pass, and this one is better than most! Their sushi is fresh and good portioned pieces. A lot of their dishes are above average. Not everything is a winner, but overall its at least decent and hits the spot when you are craving Chinese. I'll keep coming back and trying new things till I find my favorites. read more

I was in town, my wife wanted Chinese and this was the closest place to where I was, so she called in a take-out order: Orange Chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Pot Stickers and Chow Mein. Everything was very good! Really tasty shrimp, the pot stickers were plump, chow mein was loaded, the chicken was good too and there was a pile of rice to go with it all. Portions were sizeable enough to where you could feed two on one main course. We shared some and ate on the meal for two days for about $40! The place was about 40% full when I arrived, and our order was ready within about five minutes. I couldn't help but notice the shabby reviews as of late, but we forged ahead regardless, and we're glad we did. Those were certainly not our experience, and we suggest you give Hunan Garden a try. read more

Bad food gave me stomachaches the day I got it and day after. It tasted bad too. And the apatizers didnt look like the picture and were really very small. 4 jalapenos appetizers? More like 2 very small ones split in half.... 4 avacado turtle shells? More like 4 corners of an avacado that are tiny...... And the crunchy spicy chicken sucked and the rice sucked and the kung pao sucked and the California roll sucked and the chow mein gave me horrible cramps and tasted horrible. Normally I would steer clear of Chinese food in Grants Pass. I've eaten at the Hong Kong in GP and it left something to be desired for me. I stopped into the Hunan Garden on a Saturday at about 3 pm. We were offered the lunch special menu which had a great selection of Chinese restaurant classics. I had Chicken Curry and the other two people I was with both had Sweer and Sour Pork. My chicken was delicious with delicious stir fried chicken and vegetables. I opted for steamed rice and was surprised that the lunch plates comes with chow mein also and it was delicious. Rounded out with choice of soup or salad and a spring roll and it was an amazing value for 5.95. Sweet and Sour anything isn't my favorite but I did try the pork and it seemed like it hit the mark for what it was. Highly recommended as a bargain bite for lunch and probably a solid choice for dinner too. read more

Hunan garden is a decent restaurant, they seem to have the best prices for decent sushi in the area I usually find myself getting the Philly roll and the Turtle Shell (Avocado Bomb) The service is pretty slow and the waitress/cashier struggles to comprehend and speak the english language. When you go in for takeout you will pay, and then she will just start running off doing other things without telling you your order is almost ready, just one second or anything along those lines to let you know she's not immediately getting your order, leaving you standing awkwardly standing at the counter even if your food is ready. The restaurant is very quiet inside making it hard to carry on a normal conversation without the whole dining room hearing what you are talking about, a little music would be nice. If you are looking for some decent sushi at a fair price give hunan a shot as long as you aren't in a rush. read more
