The Best Chinese food you'll find in Grants Pass. It tastes fresh and the portion sizes are generous. It's hard to find as it's located in the back of a strip mall, but if you're looking for Chinese food and you're in GP, this is your best bet. read more

The kung pao prawns are excellent. Sometimes they change up the vegetables with the prawns. But 9 out of 10 times this dish is delicious, I've never had the prawns fried before. This and the sauce makes it different and now I can't find a place that compares to this. Lol read more

Sometimes the sushi is good...sometimes the sushi is not so good, but one thing that is consistent is the unfriendly attitude ofvthe staff. We consistently feel like we are "bothering" the staff with our business. We have switched to Umi Sushi and are always welcomed warmly and the food is consistently great! read more

I had the golden dragon roll and the tekka roll. There was way too much mayo and unagi sauce on the golden dragon, sweet, gooey and overpowering. The tekka roll was alright, pretty simple to mess up. Tasted pretty fresh. Everyone else got Chinese food, they said it was ok. The two year old that eats everything wouldn't touch the beef and vegetables we got her, but she loved the egg drop soup and the cream puffs. The service was pretty bad. We had to wait awhile for someone to come answer some of our questions and then awhile longer to take our order even though there was very few people in the restaurant. They weren't very accommodating to the toddler, having to ask for every little thing. Didn't give us enough settings for both the chinese food and the sushi, but was quick to get it when we asked. The place wasn't much to look at. One corner of the place was stacked with boxes. Storage right out in the open!? We sat next to their salt water aquarium which didn't look very well kept, but it did a pretty good job of distracting the toddler. I don't think I would come here again, there are too many other places to try and I don't come to Grants Pass very often anyways. read more

Ah, where to begin? I worked for Hunan Garden as a waitress for a few months and I could honestly say that everyone should be aware of what goes on in the restaurant itself. Though the food is good and many seem to enjoy it, I must warn that the food in which you are served are usually done so on dirty and improperly washed dishware. And are sometimes leftovers. I watched as they would pour soup in bowls crusted with food from the night before. The owner/chef wipes his nose with his hands and proceeds to cook food without any sanitation afterward and while everyone else works, they usually sit behind the counter playing on their phones. The salads are almost never fresh, usually being sprayed with water to 'look' fresh. They have even served Thai tea with e x p i r e d half and half, which I properly disposed of once I found this out. Most of the food is frozen, and soups are usually leftover. They allow the chow mein to sit and sog until it is all used up. And the utensils that they use to serve this chow mein is disgusting(crusted on the inside with months old food and is rarely washed. The owners tend to think that all tips or gratitude that is paid to the Waitresses/servers are their property and knowingly commit wage theft by taking all tips and firing those who take what is rightfully theirs. Which results in many of the servers being unpleasant by terrible treatment of the owners. I have mentioned the situation with the tips to the owner and he outright told me that he would lower my pay to $5 an hour if I got my tips; which is illegal and told me that he would have to 'let me go' if I did not accept the fact that he was stealing my tips. I would recommend not tipping the waitresses/waiters since they do not get to keep their tips- you will only be paying the owners extra for work they did not do. As for the bathrooms, they are extremely unsanitary.. The owners 'w a s h' the toilets, inside and out, with the toilet scrubber- By dipping and scrubbing the inside of the toilet and then scrubbing the toilet seat with the same scrubber moments after and let the dirty water dry on the seat. The men's bathroom is by far the worst; it smells like a rest stop bathroom that has not been cleaned, the floors are stained with urine as well as the toilet itself. Not to mention, that the rags they use on the toilets also, after being washed, are then used on the tables which you sit at. The owners neglect to wash their hands before handling any of the food, meaning they place spring rolls and cheese puffs on the plates with their dirty fingers. Though they act nice to their customers, they are nothing but unsanitary, greedy and terrible owners. They should not be running a business if they are not going to follow certain rules of owning a restaurant. If I were you, I would refrain from ever eating in this restaurant. read more

Hunan used to be my favorite restaurant in GP. They have recently changed owners and now is one of the worst chinese restaurants I have ever been to! A group of 5 of us went there today and the waitress couldn't get our orders straight, she kept setting all the food down in front of the toddler that was with us, she didn't come back to our table to check on us. We had to ask for water, forks, napkins, and to-go containers. I was afraid to drink my water because she wouldn't come back to the table to fill our glasses. The food was horrible, everything changed from the previous owners, authentic chinese food to horrible half ass food. We ordered mu shu pork that usually comes with thin chinese pancakes. They served it with a stack of flour tortillas! If I wanted mexican food I would have gone to a mexican restaurant! Also, they charge for a pot of hot tea! HORRIBLE SERVICE and HORRIBLE FOOD! After 15 years of great chinese food coming out of Hunan Garden, I will no longer return unless previous owners buy back their restaurant! If I could give them 0 stars I would! read more

Although the food appears to be relatively edible, the atmosphere is grimy if paid enough attention to. I've seen the owners- who claim to act as staff, display some unhygienic and unfair behaviour; including the female owner who was clipping her nails NEAR the food. The bathrooms are also filthy due to neglect from said owners. If any customers were to walk into the restrooms, they would without a doubt lose their appetite and eat elsewhere. But the most staggering detail about this place- is that the waitresses/servers DO NOT get to keep their rightfully earned tips. The two owners knowingly keep them, and fail to keep within legal terms of letting their WORKERS keep their share in any way, shape or form. I won't be dining here in the future. I really miss clean restaurants with clean windows, tables, restrooms and menus. This place is very clean and friendly and has decent food. The wine list, though short, works. I need to order a few different things here to really critique it but is some of the best Chinese I've had in Oregon. It is absolutely hidden behind the old JC Penny store. This isn't "real" chinese food. But it's very good considering it's in Oregon. The flavors are bold and the food is usually fresh and hot. Take-out can be hit or miss, but dine-in is almost always spot on. I am addicted to their Kung Pao. The sushi rolls here are the best in town IMO. read more

Decent food depending on what you order, I wouldn't try the sushi this place is just never busy enough to look like they have fresh fish on a regular basis. My biggest frustration is their customer service. I order from this place mostly take out and the younger guy who works there is so rude on the phone. I have been going to they place for a very long time, but it saddens me to say that my family and I will not be returning. The last time we went the service was down right awful. The male server was rude and didn't even listen to our order before he started to walk away saying he knows. Then the sushi we ordered sat on the counter for 15 minutes, while the rest of us got our food, two people sat waiting to eat because all they ordered was sushi. We tried to get his attention repeatedly and he just ignored us. This was the last straw. We had been there a couple of time when this same server was rude but we kept trying. In the new location in a small shopping center, this restaurant is hitting its stride. The food is excellent, whether Chinese or Japanese (limited items) and reasonably priced. The service is a bit brusque and the atmosphere more that of a cafe than a restaurant, but don't let that deter you. Try the Hunan eggplant - yum! The shrimp tempura is delivered piping hot and crisp, the spider rolls tightly made and very clean of taste. Lots of sushi choice, without breaking the bank. The old standbys are there too, of course - chicken with cashews, pork with broccoli, beef with vegetables, shrimp, etc. The wait staff have an aversion to the Chinese proverb "may your rice bowl never be empty," but refills are available if you trip a waiter in full flight to another table. read more
