I was looking for a restaurant in Pablo's heights to checkout and I stumbled across this Chinese restaurant. The eating area was clean with large tables for large groups that want to dine in, and the customer service was nice. I tried the Chicken w/ Garlic sauce lunch special. It came with an egg roll and (Hot & Sour Soup), the pop is separate. The food had good flavor, didn't need to add a lot of soy sauce, the portion was a good size and the soup had a good taste as well. I will be back to try other dishes from their menu, and I recommend others to check this place out. read more

Chicago's best new Chinese restaurant is in Palos Heights! Hunan Inn just reopened under new management in May 2025. The menu combines the greatest hits of Chinese dining with outstanding Hunan and Sichuan specialties. The short ribs with rice flour in lotus leaf are a particular standout. The meat was so tender it fell off the bone. The Sichuan diced chicken is more tender, flavorful and spicy than at any other Chinese place in the Midwest. The desserts include elaborate and Instagram-ready shaved ice creations. The service was attentive and offered helpful advice on what to order. This place will satisfy both the most adventurous and the least adventurous palates. I live in the city but will return soon. It's worth the trip! read more

They are only doing carry out right now due to Covid. I ordered the orange chicken lunch special, which came with vegetable fried rice and two crab rangoon's for around $9 with tax. The crab rangoon was mostly just dough, there was hardly any filing at all. I asked for light sauce and under my chicken was a swimming pool of sauce. I honestly just didn't care for the flavor of the chicken or the sauce. It was just ok to me. I've had better elsewhere. The rice was good. read more

The Chinese food here is always very fresh. The Kung Pao Chicken is good. They have a good vegetarian egg roll, as well as Egg Foo Young made with egg whites upon request! Ordered food from this place today and for two orders we only received one 1 package of soy sauce and 3 shrimps in the shrimp fried rice. In the shrimp and beef rice I received a couple of slitters of beef and 2 shrimps. I also asked for extra bean sprouts and onions but to no avail no green onion. I gave the delivery driver a $5 tip before I checked my order. Once I called back, the lady was rude and basically told me I was lying and that she was busy. She stated if I wanted more onions, I need to pay for it which I already did. I told her to take it out of his tip. Needless to say, I will never order from this place again!!! read more

Upon entering the restaurant with my wife and daughter, we found the ambiance to be extremely calming with traditional asian soothing music playing in the background and Chinese lantern lighting in the front window area. We then met and were seated by JoAnn, the co-owner of the restaurant. After receiving our soup (Hot and Sour) found it to be the most balanced (perfect hot/perfect sour) and delicious soup we have ever had in a long time. We then ordered pot stickers and Szechuan won ton, JoAnn explained all the pot stickers and won ton are homemade from scratch, not from frozen as well as the smoothies made with REAL fruit, no concentrate. Our main course was not overly saucey but flavorful with just the right amount of sauce to add to each dish's unique palette. It is important to note that each dish we ordered was very traditional to the way Chinese cuisine should be prepared and was not overly salty, oily, or seasoned. We left our host and the restaurant feeling satisfied and will be bringing the entire family in the very near future. We have finally found OUR new Chinese restaurant! read more

FINALLY! We moved to the southwest suburbs about a little over a year ago and I have tried just about everyone of them within a 15 mile radius. (Maybe in exaggerating, but you get the point) I tried A LOT of Chinese places in this area and this one is by far THE BEST. So much flavor in all of their dishes! The food is delicious without weighing you down. We had the string beans with mixed pork, chicken with snow peas, Mongolian beef, fried fish,Hunan rice and beef fried rice. To be completely honest the fried rice was lacking a bit. I don't particularly like peas in my fried rice. Actually I don't like peas at all. Also, there weren't any green onions in the fried rice which I also was a little disappointed to discover. The egg rolls weren't anything special either. BUT the chicken and now peas..... Amazing. Great flavor, great texture. The chicken was tender and juicy with the perfect amount of sauce and the snow peas still had a crunch to them! The Mongolian beef was also very good. Had a slight sweet flavor to it but I didn't mind. The fried fish was GREAT. I asked for no sauce on it because the order on the menu says its fried and then some sort of sweet red sauce comes on it but we didn't want that. The fish was crunchy and even without the sauce u can tell they either marinated it or had some amazing batter they dipped it in. Idk. But it was good and plenty of flavor even without the sauce. The string beans were string beans. I'm just really happy u found this place. The menu say there is a buffet during the week so me and my family will def have to try that out. The place is quiet and fairly large. Looks like you can easily take a large group and be comfortable. I like that some of the tables have a lazy suzan. Although this restaurant is close to home, it isn't my usual go-to place for Chinese food. However, the weather was lousy and I decided to not venture too far. Hunan Inn was always decent enough in the past to fix a craving but this visit was a disappointment. The decor is a bit "retro" but that isn't an issue for me. The dining room seemed clean and that's more important than the ambiance. There was only one person to answer the phone, hostess, wait on tables and make drinks. The egg rolls had almost no taste to them. I asked for ham fried rice without the peas and was told that could be accommodated. When my order arrived it was ham WHITE rice. Since I was hungry and she was overworked I didn't complain. The chop suey was edible but nothing special. I was going to have an after-dinner cocktail but after seeing the sodas were served out of a can (with an almost unheard of charge for a refill) I decided to cut my losses. I'm not sure if there's been a change in ownership, slip in pride of ownership or if it was just a bad night. In any event, I will travel to my usual joint the next time. read more

My husband and I are definitely fans of Hunan Inn. The quick and friendly managers and service are a plus. But the food is what we all care about when ordering Chinese. We call to order take out and have been impressed twice now. The Lo Mein dishes are by far the best in the area. We have disappointed by SO many Chinese places and once we found Hunan Inn we are pretty sure we won't be ordering from anywhere else. Like I said, the Lo Mein noodles are the perfect flavor and consistency. Other favorite items: egg rolls, crab rangoon, fried rice (house special), Cantonese spare ribs, sesame chicken. all amazing. My husband tried the hunan shrimp once and it was not his favorite. But otherwise everything else we have tried we have really liked. This is some of the best Chinese food in the area. Eating in is nice but we do a lot of carry out. They have some pretty good lunch specials that come with an entree, fried rice, a crab ragoon, one egg roll and a fortune cookie. A decent price at about $6. Tried this place for the first time with my family and it was a great experience. The atmosphere was lively and the food prices were very affordable for a family dinner and big portions. Got the mango smoothie, the pot stickers, the crispy fish fillet, the duck, and the chop suey. Couldn't take a pic of the fish fillet fast enough because it was eaten.
