No 1 China is #1 for a reason. You taste the love in every bite. It was a rainy Sunday night and I had a craving. General Tso's extra spicy with pork fried rice and some hot 'n' sour soup. Everything was fresh, perfectly seasoned and well-cooked. The service was fast and friendly. Prices were reasonable. It is takeout only so no points to be awarded for ambiance lol. Best Bang For your Buck I called ahead 15 minutes before I arrived and ordered the General Tso Chicken Lunch Upon arrival and payment I dug in to a wonderful serving size of Yellow Rice and Chicken! The chicken was good but texturally inconsistent from piece to piece some crunchier and some chewier than others, BUT this means it's genuine chicken and did not bother me as overall it tasted great! I used to love this place but I came recently and I came 30 minutes before closing but their hours aren't correct online it says they close at 11 when really it's 10:30. I ordered shrimp fried rice and wings and got horribly sick the next morning and vomited anything I ate even water. It was awful and wasn't until late in the day I started feeling better. Ordered from restaurant on Tuesday March 8, 2022. I wanted some fried crab sticks and was in the area and remembered this is one Chinese restaurant that's sells fried crab sticks. I ordered fried crab sticks, my 14 year old son wanted teriyaki wings with shrimp fried rice and since he ordered I always love shrimp with broccoli with curry sauce. I asked to add big onions to my order it was extra for the added onions and side orders of sauce for fried crab sticks. We got home my sons food was fine and he was able to eat it. My fried crab sticks were good too. I opened my shrimp with broccoli and curry sauce and it didn't look like what I am use to fresh food looking like. I taste my shrimp with broccoli and curry sauce and it taste like piss (sorry to say that but it did) pure piss not pee piss and my shrimp taste like they were rotten. This restaurant has definitely fallen off the radar of the inspectors and please be careful ordering food online then going to pick up your food. The restaurant inside is closed off and you stand outside to pay and pick up your order. The menu on the window of the restaurant had a dead stink bug stuck to it and looking inside the inside is piled with boxes and books everywhere. It doesn't look clean at all. I still paid over $30.00 for our food and was hoping it would be good but no way I took that one bite and tossed it in the trash gross no way I was eating any of that besides the crab sticks. My son heard me and was feeling grossed out and it effected him enjoying his food. I felt sick the whole time eating the crab sticks with how my shrimp with broccoli tasted ugh so so disgusting. I was starving and really wanted to eat my shrimp with broccoli and curry sauce but it was impossible. I asked my oldest son to taste it and see if he wanted it before I tossed it and he is the greediest person I know and he even said no way ma that's nasty and taste like piss. For him to say it taste like piss surprised me to think "I know they didn't piss in my food" there were no bad interactions of no kind I was extremely courteous. I will be reporting them to the Greenville South Carolina food and safety inspectors. This is unacceptable and wasted my money. Since Covid I understand not having the inside open to the public but that do not mean use the area where the public suppose to be to pile books and boxes on the inside of your restaurant. From the looks of the inside public area I can not imagine what the kitchen looks like back there. I'm so grossed out and will be cautious of ordering food then picking it up. Yes, I ordered Take-Out 30 minutes before they closed. I got Sesame Chicken & received something SUPER SPICY, & I like spicy but this was some intentional type sh*t... Especially for SESAME CHICKEN that isn't spicy... Soo.. that aside i thought I had bitten my lip & NO there was tiny pieces of glass in the breading of my dang chicken!!!!! I goe here exclusively for their hot and sour soup and I love their takeout. Always have had quick and polite service (they're so nice!) This is one of my comfort food spots Usually we grab the soup, steamed dumplings and an entree each and it feeds us well for a while. Definitely cant eat all that at one time but it's worth it to try! The building definitely has a hole in the wall feel but I've been going there periodically for years, never once saw a cleanliness problem. Summary: Exactly what you would expect from cheap Chinese food. Slightly above-average when compared to similar Chinese restaurants. I went in with low expectations after reading some of the poor reviews. However, I was pleasantly surprised by both the service and the food. The lady working at the front counter was nice and smiled at me. I called the order in before driving to pick it up, and I waited another 3-5 minutes for it to be ready. She estimated "15 minutes" when I ordered it, and that's about how long it took. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken Combination Plate, which was $8.20 after taxes. I received a generous helping of chicken, pork fried rice, an egg roll, and a fortune cookie (I didn't want any sauce). The chicken was very hot and had a tangy, sweet flavor. The rice was a touch dry but very tasty. The egg roll was good, and the fortune cookie had an actual fortune! I am a 6'2" 180lb man with an average appetite, and I could not finish it all in one sitting. Overall, a good experience. I will certainly go back if I'm in the mood for cheap Chinese food! Three stars... That's all I can get myself to rate this restaurant. I'm not sure how they get an A rating from DHEC because the place looks like it needs a thorough cleaning. But they must be doing something right because it's still open even after businesses closed on this strip. I picked up my order of wings and fried rice combo, a large wonton soup, egg rolls, and spring rolls. The food was good and hot when I got it. The chicken wings were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The skin was crispy without the heavy batter. The filling of the spring rolls were a little mushy but the wrap is thin and crispy. We decided to order several items for pickup. We had read good reviews about certain dishes and decided to give it a try. I'm not sure if we went on a bad day, but out of the five different items we ordered...they were all the same basic sauce with variations. The fried rice that was eight dollars for a little pint, was old and crunchy. I still will give it a three star because the staff was extremely nice and the portions large. I don't want to see a business fail during these times, but I'm confused why they got such high ratings from some of the reviewers? Hands down the best take-out Chinese in Greenville, SC. Where I'm from cheap Chinese take-out is really popular, like a good place on every corner or at least in every neighborhood. So I was really disappointed when I came to Greenville and found this genre of food missing. Literally no one else in town is as good as No.1 China... NOT TO BE CONFUSED with Number One China on Woodruff Rd. Trust me you don't want to make that mistake. What makes it so good you may be asking? The quality of the dishes- always fresh, superb meat to breading ration (none of that it's all breading and no meat business), great sauces that are distinct from dish to dish (none of that every dish tastes the same BS). PLUS the sweet Chinese family that owns it, has been there for YEARS and are always so nice. They have a daughter who has grown up in the restaurant and now helps with the register. Despite their phony "top 100 chinese restaurant menu award" that is proudly displayed on their window, what you will get from this place is a hard-working, friendly owned establishment that serves some tasty Chinese Americanized fast food at a great value! Though "some" of their dishes may look questionable, rest assured, you will leave satisfied! Both wallet and tummy-wise, might I say. This place is also great for catering. We love this place. We have gotten take out here for abut 15 years. If you are craving just good take out Chinese this is your place. There are two must get for us the chicken on a stick and the Wonton soup. The Chicken on a stick is juicy and so good. The Wonton soup has a great broth. I have had alot off the menu and everything I have has is really good. A few favorites are the Magnolian Beef, Moo Goo Gai Pan and the Lo-Mein. The appetizer sampler had several inedible items, including the scallops, crab and cream cheese puffs, and the shrimp toast. I went here with a friend from church, which is just a bowshot away. It was Holy Week and we were hoping to get some fast food we could eat. By "fast" I mean Lent-Friendly, not high velocity. It certainly was not high velocity. The atmosphere was, well, post apocalyptic. Picture yourself taking refuge in a Chinese take-out place twenty years after a Zombie Apocalypse. Everything on the walls is faded. There are two side-vent chimneys, and one of them has a shot fan-bearing, so it makes this grinding sound as it runs. There is a humorous "Top 100" sign on the door. Whoever gave that award, must have never been ANYWHERE ELSE! The vinyl seats are torn. It's a place that looks like its apex has come and is long gone. The Glory has Departed. We waited for 10-15 minutes before finally being served. My friend became agitated and said he wanted his money back, so we could go someplace else. We were not aware if they had even begun to prepare our food several minutes after we placed the order, and there was no one else in the store. The woman behind the counter became very upset and was yelling at both of us, even though I didn't open my mouth the whole time. She came out and plopped this nasty gelatinous stuff in a plastic bowl and some rice on a Styrofoam plate. The nasty, gelatinous clear liquid was inedible. It was so vile. People don't eat that poorly in third-world countries. I'm sure of it! The rice was the best part, and it was very mediocre. The packs of duck sauce must have been from the Han Dynasty, because I KNOW they weren't any good. I almost vomited because of the smell and taste of the "food". This review is based only on takeout. Nobody would ever want to dine in. The establishment is really not intended in my opinion for dining in. It's very messy and isn't presentable even though there are tables, etc. I always order the sesame chicken and crab rangoons and they are to die for. Sesame chicken can taste so different at so many places, but this place gets it right. The sauce is just spicy enough and also has just the right amount of tanginess. Also it's not too runny, and has the perfect thickness. The chicken also has the perfect crunch, not soggy like other places. The rice is always fresh and has crisp, fresh onions and chicken chopped in it. Very good. The crag rangoons are my favorite also! Very full unlike other places that skimp on the stuffing.
