I tried to order food from here a few weeks ago through their app. The app let me choose to pay in cash. A couple minutes later I got a call and they said I can't pay in cash, and asked if I wanted to pay with a card or cancel my order. I told them I didn't have money on my card at the time so I needed to cancel my order. They said okay and hung up, they then called me 2 more times telling me to give them my card information while I kept telling them to cancel my order, as I couldn't pay on my card at the moment. Fast forward to today, and since I had money on my card now I decided to try again. I ordered seasame chicken with fried rice and then lo main and spicy dumplings. When the food arrived most of the liquid from the spicy dumplings had spilled out and was all over everything else, not only this but what's left in the container looks like nothing but chili pepper and oil. And then there was something wrong with the lo main, it both smelled and tasted spoiled. However since we didn't have any more food in the house my roommate decided to try and eat the lo main anyways and he got sick. TLDR: I've ordered twice from this place, both experiences have been horrible. read more

We recently tried Hunan Ranch for the first time, and we have been back three times since! They are currently closed for indoor seating, but they have developed an excellent system for picking up your meal. The food is great, and plentiful. Good value for the money, and super fast. I look forward to eating here when they re-open, and in the meantime takeout is working great. read more

I called for 30 minutes straight but the phone was always busy. I drove there but by the guy handing out the orders said that he was too busy to take my order right there and then! my daughter really wanted Chinese so when I got home, I placed the order thru their app for delivery only to have the same guy call me and tell me that they were not doing deliveries today. He said I could pick up my order in 30 to 40 minutes. I drove to the restaurant after 40 minutes but was told it would be approximately 30-40 more minute!!!! This also happened to the 2 people waiting outside when I got there. I really don't understand how they stay in business with the lack of customer service skills and lying to people about how long their orders take. Not worth my time. I waited 90 minutes, and had no notification it was delivered. The food was cold, and I was also missing the rice I paid extra for. I called and was told that they would void the transaction, which would take 5 business days (it does not) and they would recharge me or give me a credit for next time. No thanks. Disappointed on Mother's Day. We arrived 15 minutes before they opened at 11:30 and waited in our car. When they opened, we were the first family seated of 3 parties. The waiter came over and asked for our drink order and I told him we needed a minute. I had to call him back over. When I did I asked if it would be possible to have real silverware and plates rather than the paper plates and plasticware that was out on our table. If I wanted to eat with a plastic fork on a paper plate, I would not have come into a restaurant. Even though he brought it over right away, he did not take our drink order. 10 minutes passed and we never saw him again. My favorite Chinese restaurant in Houston (that no one can beat) is called Taydo on Highway 6 and Westheimer. When I moved from Houston, I tried desperately to find a place that comes close to Taydo and that place is Hunan Ranch on Avery Ranch and Parmer. The only downside is their restaurant hours are weird, they close right after lunch and then re-open for dinner which sucks for my co-workers because their lunch time is when Hunan Ranch is closed. :( Their sesame chicken and fried rice reminds me of home. read more

The girl who took my order was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The gal who delivered was patient and sweet even when my dumb apt gate wouldn't let her in the first two times. Got the Shrimp fried rice and Kung-Pao Chicken. Well shame on me for not checking Yelp first. HOLY portion size batman! I had enough to feed a army. So it was Independance Day, you know the ol' Fourth of July holiday. Of course I have to have the traditional chinese food on the 4th. I took a drive and turned up at Hunan Ranch. Must order the Sesame chicken as I always do on the 4th. I go for the splurge and get Crab Rangoons. They tell me ten minutes. It gives me time to check out the atmosphere. You walk in to face the usual Fish tank. Decor looks typical chinese. Not crowded so not everyone is onto my tradition of chinese food on the 4th. The wait staff was quick to take my order and they were very friendly. Exactly ten minutes later, my food was ready. I take my order and head home. The first thing I notice is the rice is contained separately in the old style chinese box. Oh, I miss those days of yore before sytrofoam. I open the box with the sesame chicken. OMG, I think they cooked the whole dang chicken, so much food. The rangoons are not packed to crushing in their own box. The chicken was moist and flavorful. It had the slight crispy texture and the sauce was not overly sweet. It was one of the best sesame chicken I have ever had. The rangoon were loaded with filling and not only cream cheese. It did have crab in it. Again it was so good. Most people overlook the rice but their rice was cooked just right. Soft and fluffy, with the right amount of sticky to it. Hunan Ranch has three things going for it: 1. It's close to home. 2. It's clean. 3. They have good chicken corn soup (when it's served hot). We've eaten here several times now, and I suppose that since we live in the burbs now, this is our new neighborhood Chinese joint. My defacto dish there is either sesame chicken or lettuce wraps. Last night, I decided to try something "different", so I ended up getting teryaki fish. I know, soooo adventurous, right? It was okay. first of all, I have only eating here once but when I stopped by after moving in I did notice a few things. It was clean and Actually quite nice. they have booths and tables and small bar to the right. Despite the size of the bar all you really need is a little sake! And this they do have! haha but they also deliver. It appears to be clean and friendly and there food doesn't taste like its just thrown together. The fried rice is cooked with bean sprouts ...i love it when its cooked like that. I think it makes it taste better. Its probably in my head but I'll believe it. I've heard everything's bigger in Texas. Clearly that applies to the Chinese food as well. What California Chinese food fails to do is convey flavor. I know some will decry me for that, but it's the truth. Usually it's so greasy and over fried that your stomach tends to rumble on your first bite...and you pay the piper later on. The food I've had here at Hunan Ranch really was good - it wasn't greasy, I wasn't hungry 5 minutes later and I didn't have to try to think up a long term payment plan when shelling out money for lunch. Plus, portions were extraordinarily huge for such a cheap price. If I pay $10 for Chinese food for lunch here in CA, I'm lucky if I get rice with that - some places charge extra for it. Here at Hunan Ranch I got a healthy portion of a main dish, rice, soup and an egg roll - for $6.25. REALLY. If we end up moving here, I can't wait to try the rest of their dishes. read more

Their orange tofu is great however I am giving only 4 stars because my food was not packed very well for delivery. All the juice from my tofu has spilled into the plastic bag. Not cool. It would be good if they put tofu and juice inside foil then put that inside the styrofoam container. Either that or put it into a large soup container with a lid. read more

This is my favorite Chinese Restaurant right now! I love it. It satiates my cravings every time. They have this fantastic Egg Plant in Garlic sauce that I add broccoli and tofu to, which is my favorite dish. I get it every time regardless of what else I order as well. They can also do veggie Moo Shu (be sure to specify no egg) even though it's not listed on the menu. The sesame tofu is very sweet, and the Buddha's delight is a little boring, but good if I mix it together with the eggplant and garlic sauce, just to add in the veggies. The egg rolls appear to be vegetarian, but probably not vegan. They also have sushi options, and I can get vegetable sushi rolls. I just recently found out that they deliver to my house even though they're 9 miles from me, and they have their menu conveniently posted online. Love love love. read more

This place has a great atmosphere and food. I love the wonton soup and their crab rangoons dipped in sweet and sour. I have never been disappointed in any dish I have ordered. (except they put cauliflower in it, not the first thing I think of in a Chinese dish. I usually ask for extra broccoli or carrots). My husband and I both have an obsession with greasy cheap Chinese food. That is why I went ahead and gave Hunan Ranch 5 whole stars because it is just that. We eat the whenever we need our Chinese food fix and everything we have ever had is wonderful. Two of our favorites being the orange beef and the chicken lo mein. It's also one of the few places in Austin where you can find really good steamed meat buns. We went to Japan last summer and fell in love with these and have had a hard time finding them here in the states. The portions are HUGE and the prices are really reasonable. Is it traditional Chinese? About as much as Pei Wei. But if you like restaurants like that then give this place a try because you will get more bang for your buck and you'll be helping Keep Austin Weird. :-) *My suggestion to you though is to try them during lunch time. You pay less, get almost as much of the entree (at least 2 servings) , and you get an egg roll. read more

Had sweet and sour soup and curry chicken, both of which were great. Waitress was a little weird...she'd ask you a question and walk away before you answered, making you feel rushed, like you were wasting her time. Atmosphere was very nice. Loved the fish tank and how the sun shining through the tank made fishy shadows on the wall! Ok, apparently they failed some health inspections? Weird. Had an early dinner here on a Saturday evening at 5:30. No wait at all. That was a plus. I had the Kung Pao Beef. I'm not a big fan of rice - I know, why then do I go to a Chinese restaurant? The things we do for love. That's all I can say. So I can't comment on the huge bowl of rice they brought to the table for sharing. But if I did like rice, I would have had plenty of it. The beef was good. A few pieces were maybe a little tough, but the vegetables were crisp and the flavor was good. Our 12 year-old son had the orange chicken, which he liked. I tried a piece and unfortunately it was a bad piece. I'm not sure if it was gristle or what, but I had to spit it out. But he liked all of what he had, so that's all that really counts. My wife had the fried rice w/ chicken, beef and shrimp. She liked it, but had an entire bowl of fried rice left when done. Not that she didn't like it. It was just a lot of rice! Overall good experience. Probably a little overpriced at about $11 average per dish, but I'm definitely willing to go back and try some of their other dishes. read more

I would give this place 10 stars if I could! They have added a sushi bar! I love sushi and now being able to get the goods of both world in one stop is GREAT! Couple of my friends were in town this past weekend and were craving for some good chinese food so I treated them to Hunan Ranch, my favorite chinese food place to go for take out. I love their chicken corn soup which is always full of eggs, peas, carrots, corn and chicken. My friends loved the hot & sour soup - lots of veggies & tofu with a perfect combination of spicy heat & flavors. We ordered tuna tar tar (excellent starter, beautifully presented), sashimi special (very fresh, 9pcs of 3 different kinds of fish for ONLY $9.00, can't beat that deal!) as appitizers, and 4 entrees - orange beef, combination lo mein, happy family and salt & pepper shrimp.My friends were amazed by the large amount of food they gave us, and how each dish was prepared with its own distinct flavor. We really enjoyed our dinner! My friends commented "we will have to visit you more often now so we can get the awesome chinese food and sushi." I might stop by this weekend to try the sushi rolls. read more

Came here to eat the other day after yelping Chinese food and seeing the reviews. As others have mentioned earlier, the atmosphere was much nicer than most Chinese restaurants and very clean as well. The service was a bit slow today, as we were not greeted for a few minutes of waiting at the door, then seated after another 3 minutes waiting for another one of the servers to clear a table for us. (Several other tables were also empty but have not been cleared) The menu had a large selection, but the variety of flavors was highly limited. More than half the menu will be using one of these 5 sauces: white , brown, black, garlic, or sweet & spicy/sour sauce. Some of the food was too saucy, but still tasted ok; it was a nice change from the usual Chinese fast foods out there, but nothing spectacular. For $7-$10 though, It was pretty filling since you get a veggie egg roll, choice of a small soup, and the entrees come with plenty of meat. I will come back to try the sushi bar another day, but for now, I give it a 3/5. read more

Last week a friend of mine asked me to lunch and recommended we meet at this place. I've been wanting to try it, but just haven't gone for one reason or another. Anyway, I finally met my friend there for lunch and the food was really good and had nice sized portions. I ordered one of the lunch specials, the happy family. You have a choice of egg drop soup, wonton soup or hot and sour soup. I opted for the egg drop soup based on earlier reviews, and I have to say it was the best egg drop soup I have ever had. The lunch special came with an eggroll, which was really good compared to most places, and once again, the happy family was an outstanding choice. My friend ordered the steak something or other, and it looked really good to. Today I decided to take my kids and my mom out for Chinese and then head over to the Austin aquarium. Once again, the food was excellent and the portions good size. Just know that they don't offer the lunch menu on weekends, so soup and egg rolls would be extra. As they were so good the week before however I went ahead and got them and my family raved about how good the food and service was here. This is by far the best Chinese food I've had in the Round Rock / Cedar Park area. I'll definitely be coming back! read more

Food is Good! Portion size is BIG! Service is usually spot on. Not crazy expensive. It's a win. I used to go here every Saturday for lunch with a group of coworkers. So, i can solidly say i have tried at least 3/4's of the menu. Sometimes there were 3 of us and sometimes there were 10 of us. They were always accommodating to the group, learned our pattern and started having a table ready before we got there. We almost always had perfect service. *everyone has an off day now and then. The food was Always yummy and filling. We would usually do the "family style" thing and order an app or 2 and 2-3 entrees. (that would fill the 10 people table. We might even have a little leftover. Portion size is good, ya'll.) i LOVE the pan fried dumplings and the crab puffs are good (not too greasy.) Their egg rolls are pretty decent and i liked the chicken corn soup! We ALWAYS had an order of Orange Beef. The sauce is really tasty and i like the way they cook the meat. (kinda like PF Chang's Mongolian Beef.) We would usually rotate the other 2 entree options. I never had one entree that was bad. Not all were favorites, but always prepared well with good ingredients. OMG. the Mooshu Chicken!!!! Loved it! want some now! Now that i have reminded myself. Lol! We also tried the sushi a few times. Again, never had a bad roll and it was always fresh. On days when i wanted to treat myself, i would get an order of the golden ribeye . So Nom! It's ribeye cubes sautéed with fresh garlic, mushrooms & potatoes. Which, ok, isn't very Chinese foody but IS really really good. I could usually have lunch for less than 12 bucks (food,tax and tip. maybe $15 with sake!) and take home some leftovers. Hunan Ranch has a nice atmosphere, lots of yummy menu options, fresh sushi, good service and all at the right price. It's worth your time. read more

I found this little jewel because I just happened to be working in the Cedar Park area & needed a quick lunch. This was indeed a lucky accident, as service was fast & friendly - despite the restaurant being so busy - and the food was fresh & of high quality. I had to check out their Curry Chicken. Many dishes here can be ordered with all white meat or all dark meat - I chose white meat. My lunch special included Hot & Sour Soup, full of "stuff", especially mushrooms & julienned bamboo shoots. The modern decor looks clean & attractive, and the ambience was relaxed & pleasant - despite the high volume of lunch customers. I look forward to bringing Ingrid for her favorite dish with white-meat chicken, and to see how they operate at dinner. We'll let you know! read more

3 stars? This is why I don't live up north. You people are nuts. I will not ever go up north unless there is something in it for me. So this past Friday, I wanted to see my mom's new digs. Don't ask me why she lives up there, I stick her in with the "nuts." She and her husband eat here often and were excited to show it to me. I thought from the moment I walked in I would like it. For one, it was super clean, the people were so nice, and it was tastefully decorated. The food was inexpensive, and really good, the "lunch" portions were OOC. I would love to see the dinner portions. I bet it would feed a small family of gnomes. I had plenty to bring home. If I ever decide to head up to waco again, I will stop here. read more

We discovered this place because it was near my voice teacher's house in Avery Ranch. They have a great, inexpensive lunch special, with a good variety of choices, and high-quality food. Their wonton soup isn't full of the normal out-of-the-package thin wrappers that your average Chinese restaurant serves up. They are thick and delicious, with a fine-flavored broth. The food is not overly greasy, and it is always served in an attractive fashion. The only thing about the lunch I would improve is the egg roll, which I found tasteless. The real secret of Hunan Ranch, however, is their sushi bar, which only operates for dinner.We are from California and have tasted all manner of fresh, excellent sushi, but we were having trouble finding good sushi in Austin that wasn't overhyped and overpriced. This sushi was fresh, creative, delicious, and generously portioned. We were delighted and surprised! The selection isn't gigantic like some sushi places, but everything we ordered (maki, nigiri, and rolls) was top-notch. The prices are also completely reasonable, and don't make us feel like someone attached a sucker to our wallet for the privilege of having sushi. In short, we finally found our sushi place! I am very surprised by the person who said the service sucks, because every time we have been there (about 6 times now), we have experienced the best, most friendly, fun, and fast service.
