Heading back from the Reservoir and it was after 8 PM in Oakdale. Nearly all restaurants, including Golddust next-door were closed. Felt like my grandmother's old saying that they roll up the sidewalks after 8 PM on a Sunday night. Beyond Taquerias, a couple of hamburger drive-ins that were still open, we found this Chinese restaurant. We arrived 30 minutes before closing, and they were definitely not happy to see us, but they were willing to serve us. We got the Hunan Villa's dinner which came with a Pupu plate and your choice of soup and your choice of entrée. We ordered the dinner for two as the Babes only grazes. They gave us settings for three, including for the soup without having to be asked. Both the Hubbs and the babes had fun with the Pupu platter. I was more tired than hungry, but ended up enjoying the food. It had that old school greasy spoon American Chinese flavor that I've been missing. The food isn't fancy, but it's plentiful and tasty and reminded me of the Chinese restaurants when I was a kid. The Hubbs chose Mongolian beef and we got tons of beef and I chose the honey walnut prawns and they gave us at least 20 prawns. The portion sizes were huge. I was expecting that they had provided food for three but when we got our check, they charged us the dinner for two. We took home the leftovers and there was enough food for two additional meals. Forgot to take additional pictures and the total came out to about $42. I had $60 on me in cash and left that to cover the tab and tip, since they stayed open late for us. Definition of cheap eats and we will definitely be back the next time we go to the reservoir. read more

Absolutely FILTHY!! The egg drop soup had a black piece of what looked like all the ripped/shredded parts of their chairs that was all over the floors. They also have a child they must bring to work that was laying in the booth kicking his feet up in the air and the top of the back of the booth. Final straw was when I decided to eat a little bit of the rice and there was a hair stuck in the egg. Do not believe all these food reviewers/content creators who hype these places up. read more

If you ever drove up to Mammoth Lakes and are hungry, please stop by Hunan Villa for a quick lunch! Oakdale city is a perfect half way point to stop too before you enter the Tioga Pass. Hunan Villa is spacious, neat and tidy! Their restroom is also clean. The staff were friendly while taking our orders. We could smell the delicious smell of our food being cooked from the kitchen area! We ordered the Mongolian Beef and Hunan Chicken to go. And OMG the portion!!! Our containers were overloaded with food! Chowmein noodles and fried rice were our sides. The staff even gave us free delicious hot soups and fried wontons and egg rolls! $12 something including tax for that much amount of food which could feed us 2-3 meals? Such a bargain! And the food itself, though a bit salty to my taste, was tasty ! We chomped down our lunch and enjoyed them so much. I called for a to go order and when I picked up the order, it was ready so that was good and everyone seemed nice and polite. However, the food was not very good. The beef chow fun was soggy and didn't have much flavor. Also, the beef and snow pea dish came with a lot of extra vegetables that I didn't care for so if anything, they should've advertise it as a mix vegetables with beef dish. Also, I noticed on some of the yelp reviews they raved about the portion sizes but to me, it seemed pretty average since the to go containers were in the black and clear top container. I noticed those containers are not nearly as big as the white Styrofoam ones. I probably won't come back here mainly because I did not like the chow fun. read more

Today was my first time trying Hunan and I was pleasantly surprised! I looked up some pictures, the food looked good and the portions looked plenty. I couldn't find a recent menu online so I went in to order. The inside was clean and had nice seating. I ordered the Mongolian chicken combination because I was in the mood for something with a little kick. The hostess was very polite and the food was served in a timely manner. Everything tasted hot and fresh. The meal came with Mongolian chicken, pork fried rice, chicken chow mein, egg flower soup, a cream cheese wonton, and an egg roll all for under $13! The takeout container was filled to the top with food. There was enough that I was able to give some to a few of my coworkers and still took a lot home. Finally a restaurant that isn't afraid of using MSG. The food is so much more flavorful because it incorporates MSG in its cooking. I was so shocked when I tasted the MSG again, brings back memories when restaurants used MSG to add more flavor to Chinese cuisine. I ordered chicken and mixed vegetables with beef rice fried. As for the rice it was fresh hot and had a good amount of tasty beef. As far as the chicken with vegetables, the chicken is the first part of the name I ordered, it should have been the star but there was way more vegetables than chicken. The vegetables were not cooked all the way. They were too hard not only that the vegetables and chicken were lukewarm. I don't understand it. It was supposed to be made fresh. My wife's plate was the same way with beef. And vegetables. Horace with beef was very, very hot and fresh. But the other with the beef and vegetables. It was lukewarm and the taste was not there like normal. I don't know what's going on. Maybe they have a new cook, but I'll tell you. It was not worth $35. Oh yeah, so she brought us a plate of. Pop stickers as a side plate we ordered. They looked freezer burnt and they were raw on one side. And cooked, on the other side they definitely were not deep fried, nasty on top of that their crab Filled ragun was fishy and nasty and so was the Spring roll. It was pretty gross tookay. I said I never had any problems with this place to me. It was always way more food for your buck. Tasted wonderful and fresh, as can be today's experience. I don't know if I'll be going back. Especially if it's just from a new cook. We both really wanted to ask for our money back. That's how bad it was. I think we took 3 bites total each and got a box though for both of our dinners. So as I read on with other peoples reviews, I agree, and they agree that the Ragoons suck nasty and the Pop stickers are not cooked all the way and taste freezer born nasty. We love Hunan Villa. The food is delicious! I was talking to my grandson today and he said I'm gonna come over to Oakdale so I can eat at Hunan Villa. He said I'm craving it. He lives in the Bay Area anyway it is loved by our family. We've been going there for years. The little kids I used to take in there have kids of their own now. We've watched their children grow up. Decided to give this place a try and I'm so glad that I did! I ordered the firecracker shrimp fried rice and an order of crab Rangoon and both we delicious and expertly prepared. I'd say that the only drawback at this time (9/2022) is that they are only doing take out orders with no dine in option available. A waiter at the Chinese restaurant we used to go to regularly, was extremely rude to my daughter and then called her boyfriend a name usually followed by cat or willow, which is completely unacceptable so we've been looking for a new spot and I'd say I found it. They give you quite a bit of food too, definitely more than enough for two meals! I made sure to grab a to go menu so that we can look at all that's available and place our orders. We were looking for a Chinese restaurant on our drive home from Yosemite. Stopped here and discovered the place was "to-go" only. The portion sizes are great, and they give you a lot of food with the lunch combinations, however the dishes were very saucy. I try to eat on the healthier side,and felt that there was just way too much sauce in all of the entrées. So much that I probably won't finish eating mine. On the plus side there were lots of vegetables in the chicken with mixed vegetables, but I would just suggest eliminating at least 3/4 of the sauce. Then it would taste much better and would be better for you! No one needs to eat that much sodium. read more

It's small and out of place so to speak but we'll worth the effort to find. I've been coming here for years and years and very rarely have they disappointed us. We have gone to China Dynasty in Modesto off and on as well and their food is excellent but their prices are very high and you don't get a lot of food. Hunan Villa has it all! We can't recommend them enough! We will continue to go there for years to come hopefully! Have been there several times. Our orders has always been correct. I like both types of Wontons. My husband really likes the Mongolian Beef, he orders it extra hot and they make it perfect for him. He also really likes the 5 Spice Calamari. Myself, I like Generals Chicken and Broccoli Beef, both very good choices. Some of the chicken dishes are just the deep fried chicken then served with sauce...I don't like those. That is a lazy way to serve a dish. But it is all made with white meat chicken. Service has always been good, the order has always been package nicely for the trip home. Sometimes though I feel like I am ordering from Oakdale's version of the "Soup Nazi" as the lady seem to have no patients while she takes your order and doesn't want to answer a question...Maybe it is just a LOST IN TRANSLATION thing...hahaha. read more
