I'm new to the area and was looking for a Honda specialist mechanic shop. I'm a car enthusiast and very picky where I send my cars for major or minor repairs. I do a lot of my own DYI but some repairs I just don't have the specialty tools to do the job. My little 1989 Honda Civic LX all original needs a front/rear end suspension refresh. As I got to replacing my front shocks I ended up needing to utilize "Rich" from Hunda to compress my springs onto the struts; $110 pair (parts removed from vehicle). Excellent guys and very knowledgeable. I did have to go back as the passenger side top hat of the strut was misaligned. Not a big deal, as they took less than ten minutes to adjust it. So far, I'm pleased of the customer service. The real test is as soon as it cools down with this heat,install the strut and give a test drive, I'll return to give an update. This is my personal experience with "Rich" at Hunda. UPDATE: 06/2020: I decided to have HUNDA restore my entire power steering system, front & rear brake system, front suspension and diagnosis my non working A/C system. The car feels like new! Very tight and comfortable ride. Thanks to "Howard & Rich". Highly recommend them. You may pay slightly more but your receiving great workmanship, and dealing with old school knowledge that is very hard to find. read more

We took out 2012 Honda to Hunda for a 120K service. Rich and the crew there did a great job on the car. However, he uploaded the service details to Carfax - which was not mentioned anywhere in the paperwork he gave us. The following day, we received FOUR spam calls trying to sell us "extended warranties" for our car. Did this have anything to do with the updated CarFax? I don't know, but we usually get about 1/week. However, when I asked Rich not to do that in the future, he refused - told me that it was "automatic" and got angry with me. Too bad - I thought I had found a new mechanic. But work on my car is a private matter between the mechanic and myself. [---Later---] Rich called me, and we talked some more. He apologized for getting upset, and he told me that he had called the company that makes the software that he uses, and there *is* a way of disabling the upload of data to CarFax. Ahhhhhhh what can I say, a hidden gem in Poway that represents what a true mechanic is. Working on cars is truly a beautiful craft, I do the majority of my maintenance on my cars because it's really hard to find a good, reliable, knowledgeable mechanic that'll do the job right. Atlas I stumbled upon this place after my aftermarket starter nose cone decided to become a grenade, leaving shrapnel in the bell housing. Yikes!!! After spending hours trying to "fish" those pieces of shrapnel out, I knew it was time to find a mechanic. But how? There's so many options and how do you know the job will be done right?? Short answer: you don't. But that's when I met Rich and explained the problem/situation. I knew the job wasn't going to be easy, the whole tranny had to come out/seals replaced etc. But I wanted the job done right not half assed! Rich was able to fit me in right before Christmas Eve and able to get the car back before the new year. Rich/Howard are incredible mechanics. No BS, no upcharge, no shenanigans. The car needs what it needs and if you want the job done right, this is the place to come. They've earned my trust/respect after this experience. Just had our first 'big service' for our Highlander and even though an additional item was needed and ordered, we were able to go in again to have a new battery installed with no problem. We have been going to Hunda Automotive for since 1985 for all of our Honda Accords. I will never go anywhere else because, not only are Rich and his fellow mechanics honest but they always do an excellent job keeping us informed of any potential replacement ahead. Rich and the crew at Hunda Automotive are as good as it gets. On short notice, they did a great job on my 05 Civic which needed an oil change/tire rotation. I also had a lingering problem from a prior repair (not done at Hunda), which they were able to look at as well. The diagnostic was quick, yet thorough, and they were able to give me an answer that day. Instead of charging me for a part that wasn't necessary, they were honest and told me they would need another day to look at it. The next day, they quickly found the problem and were able to make the repair as well! Rich took his time to explain to me the entire process, pictures and charts included. I do most of my own routine service, but have taken our Accords here to see Rich and his techs on occasion. As a former tech (high school days), I will say that Rich runs an honest and quality shop focused on customer service. One example - there was something I could not figure out, for the life of me, and Hunda took a look at it, and his tech wrapped it up in about an hour. Was quoted a reasonable price. Brought the car in on Wednesday at end of the day. No problem. Need the car by end of day on Friday for a race on Saturday. No problem. First problem was that the wheel lug tool was in my possession. Ok, drove down and gave it to them. No problems. Next, they pulled out the clutch and told me that the pressure plate was destroyed. Argh..problems.. had one overnighted to them for a Friday morning delivery. The car will have to stay on their lift until Friday, which sucks. But no problem. They got the new pressure plate in and it did not fit right. The bolt holes were wrong. Problem. Took the plate to a machine shop friend and he slotted the holes and in two hours we had the plate back to Hunda. But now it was Friday afternoon. They had moved some other work around to accommodate our job. Yay. No Problems! They told me to just come at end of business day at 5:00pm. If it was not done, be prepared to hang around. No guarantees. But no problem. I showed up at 5:00pm and they were just done testing the car to make sure it was fine. Put it back on the trailer and paid my bill with NO extra charges and NO problems. They gave me back the bad parts I asked for. I was charged $1.40 for a washer they needed. No gouging in spite I asked for them to go the extra for me. So Hunda Automotive in Poway. Good guys. They called us and kept in communication. No surprises from them. No problems. We were thinking about purchasing a used car from a private party. My husband test drove it, liked it and it seemed like a decent price. Before we bought it, though, we brought it to Hunda for a check-up. Oh boy -- not only did it need about $1500 of mechanical work, it also had damage to the frame and missing some pretty important items. $100 for the check-up saved us a lot of money and hassle. Since the day I got it it had a ticking sound on the engine..the husband and I thought that is how it was SUPPOSED to sound...come to find out the valves were not happy campers...I thought it would cost an arm and a leg and it didn't!. I felt very comfortable going in as a female, I hear all these nasty things about car shops taking advantage of women, but not here! Really glad this place was recommended to me. I drive a '93 Nissan 300ZX that has instilled nightmares into previous mechanics. Honestly, the car really is a pain in the ass to fix. I've known this for years. I would hear the eyes rolling in the heads of one of the previous mechanics I took it to whenever I'd drive up. It's like crap, not this thing again. Naturally this car has also received some pretty shoddy mechanic work over the years, not necessarily because it was worked on by poor mechanics but because they simply didn't know how the hell to properly fix the car and are too proud to say otherwise. Hunda was recommend to me by another mechanic in the Poway Automotive Center who was honest and said "hey, this one's beyond me. Check out Hunda." The problem wound up being one of the fuel injectors which was causing all kinds of issues that was making the car impossible to drive without it sputtering or spitting out exhaust or even just starting up on the first try. They fixed the car up real good. Cost a pretty penny but with a '93 Z that's to be expected. The car is running great now and I'm glad there's a shop that knows it's way around the engine. It'll need some more work soon for some other stuff but for now I wanted to say thanks to Rich and his crew for taking care of the issue. Highly recommend. read more

Our Camry needed to have a diagnosis after the "check engine light" stayed lit. I did some homework online to discover this is an easy fix by removing the old PCV valve and replacing it with a new one. Cool, I thought I was done until the light came back on a week later.... Uh Oh. I spoke to Rich and he said it could be any number of things and after checking on line agian I feared the worst. I left the car the the team at Hunda expecting to pay a thousand dollars for a new catalytic converter. I received a call from Rich and held my breath as I prepared for the news. "Scott, I have some really good news for you", "we found the issue was a stuck throttle body that needed cleaning and removal of some carbon build up". I asked him how much it would cost and he said an hour's labor and a can of cleaner. I got out of his shop for under $50 bucks where he could have ripped me off for a thousand. I love this shop for this reason and several other incidents just like this one. They have my service for life!
