A highlight of our trip from CA to Capitol Reef! My wife and I spent a fabulous night here for dinner. We especially liked the local sourcing of food and the talents of the chef! The Snake River Trout was terrific, filet mignon perfectly cooked and amazingly decadent peach cheesecake! We enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine with dinner and great conversation with Nancy! Absolutely one of the best meals we have had in along while. Had the trout with lemon tarragon and husband had the nightly special of steak marsala atop garlic bread with truffle mashed potatoes. The atmosphere of this restaurant was so peaceful! My dad and I both agreed that we felt so calm hearing the crickets chirp and sitting outside on the patio with the twinkly lights above us. The food was incredible! The cold gazpacho soup that was honeydew and cantaloupe with spices was just like a taste of fall and very delicious. Really good. Went for date night on a vacation, leaving the kids at the hotel with sandwiches. The charcuterie board was delish. I had the duck and it was cooked perfectly. Wife had the Utah Schnitzel (literally a huge pork piece cut to look like the state of Utah!) with apricot sauce. Ended the dinner with the chocolate tart. A great meal with views of the red cliffs. The quality & presentation of each dish is on par, if not better, to any fine dining in any big city. For sure fresh quality ingredients are used to prepare each dish. As a diner from a large city with diverse cuisine (Atlanta), I was hoping to be impressed with this restaurant but wasn't. The service was outstanding -- our waiter, Kerry, was very friendly and appropriately attentive. Even though we had reservations, we had to wait 30+ minutes for a table and due to Utah's strict alcohol laws, the restaurant could not offer us a drink while we waited (that's not the restaurant's fault but more incentive to stagger reservation times appropriately). I had the venison osso buco and my husband had elk. We also ordered the Charcuterie appetizer. It was all just okay. My osso buco came with barely steamed vegetables tossed on a way too large plate. It was well seasoned. If the restaurant is going to charge upscale prices, then there needs to be better presentation and taste. read more

Such a pleasant surprise to find fine dining so close to a National park! We loved the food and service so much that we had dinner here two nights in a row. Our first visit we enjoyed the Hunters Steak, the Mediterranean Salmon special, melon soup, king crab appetizer and of course dessert of chocolate torte and almond torte. Excellent blend of flavors and freshly sourced ingredients. Our waiter Kerry was attentive and knowledgeable! The next night we enjoyed the Tartine trio, elk special, trout and the homemade sorbet trio for dessert. Our waitress Missy was friendly and knowledgeable and we enjoyed our visit! We had a reservation for 6 o'clock. Plenty of staff around but extremely disorganized with minimal customers seated. We were seated right away but no waitress for at least 10 minutes. Service was poor during entire meal. Food presentation was excellent but served cold. For the price it's was very disappointing! read more

My husband and I stopped by with our two kids after waiting days to eat at the restaurant. The service was exceptional. We arrived close to closing for their breakfast hours but were served with wonderful servers and hostess. They even went so far as to get my children etch-a-sketches to help them with the wait and were very kind and understanding. The food was excellent and the hollandaise was delicious. Worth every penny. If you have the chance to visit this restaurant don't give it up. I will gladly go again next time I visit the area. read more

Hunt and Gather was a true find! What a gem in Torrey. It is a beautiful setting and excellent food. The service was attentive and kind. We enjoyed every minute of our visit. We sat outside on a lovely evening and enjoyed two different specials- the steak tips and curry pork. Both were fresh and incredibly flavorful. We were not expecting to find this quality of food and service in Torrey. The Sleeping Rainbow plate, trout and gazpacho were exceptional. The only thing better was the service! What a nice surprise. Hunt & Gather is a new addition to the restaurant community in Torrey. Fine dining and although new, the are clearly seasoned restauranteurs. We've been here twice now and very pleased both times. Strong recommendation on the duck, steak and mushroom risotto. Lemon creme brulee, and chocolate cake were great as well. It was fabulous to find a really excellent restaurant in this small town outside Capitol Reef NP. Both food and service were impeccable. My wife had duck prepared in two styles - the sauces were just fabulous and the duck exquisitely prepared. My Utah sized schnitzel was perfectly prepared with a nice citrus sauce and a warm German style potato salad that was to die for. We sat on the back porch with great views of the mountains at sunset. The wine list is reasonably priced with something memorable at each price point. Thanks Kerry for great service. I can't recommend Hunt and Gather more highly - it's world class and carrying on the fine reputation established years ago by Gary Panko who put Torrey on the map for great food. read more

I am already missing Hunt and Gather! On our week long stay in Torrey, we had breakfast there twice and dinner once. Everything was amazing! The service, the owners, and especially the food! Last night my family enjoyed an incredible cheese and charcuterie platter followed by filet mignon, smoked duck, a Wagyu burger, and pork schnitzel! My filet dinner was the best dinner I have had in months if not longer! Having gone 3 times makes us regulars...we now have a table! Can't wait to return! Go check it out! You will not regret it! We made a stop here for dinner during our recent road trip in Utah. It was a great to have something very different in an area where there isn't much option. My wife and I had dinner here the other night. What a pleasant surprise. Fine dining in Torrey, Utah. We split the Field & Orchard salad. Very good with strawberries, candied pecans and goat cheese. She had the Pork Schnitzel and I had the smoked salmon with bucatini. Both were excellent. We capped off the meal with a really good bread pudding. The young lady who was our server was wonderful. I was really looking forward to eating here. The reviews were good, the location is nice and the menu was somewhat interesting. Prices are pretty high compared to other eateries nearby so my expectations were equally high. I am a pretty good chef, and food at home is always excellent. Nothing chaps my a#$ more than going out somewhere nice and shelling out big bucks for mediocre food. You should get what you pay for. We had an anniversary to celebrate and decided to go check out Hunt & Gather. The red flag went up immediately while ordering. I had decided on the smoked duck but the mushroom risotto sounded very good too. I asked if the chef could make the risotto as a side dish or appetizer to accompany the duck. Not an unreasonable request. The waitress told me that it was not possible because the meals are pre-made. That statement shocked me so I asked to make sure I heard her correctly. "Are you saying they make the risotto ahead of time and heat it up to serve it?" She said yes, they have to make a lot of things ahead of time. Seriously? Visions of reheated leftovers were flowing through my head as we got up and walked out. This is not how things are done in a real high end restaurant that prides itself in freshly prepared meals. read more

I would really like to give this place a better review but...... the service once seated was super slow our waitress never really came back and when paying this much for a dinner I expect the vegetables and mashed potatoes to atleast be warm! What a wonderful surprise! The restaurant had a cute front and back patio in addition to indoor seating. The ambiance was lovely with a view of the cliffs. I have to agree with another Yelp review that it has a Napa vibe to the restaurant. The menu had very nice options and the food was delicious and service was excellent. Amazing fine dining restaurant with a small town rancher feel. Right near Fruita campground and Capitol Reef National park so perfect stop after a day of exploring. You can show up in hiking clothes too! The charcuterie board was the best I've ever had and presentation was on point. We also had the lobster bisque and grilled asparagus in a mustard sauce with roasted red peppers and pine nuts and by far the best asparagus. For main course we had local elk steak with assortment of locally infused and gathered accompaniments. Please stop here if you're in rural Utah and want a good meal! read more
