Last night I hosted my fiancé's 50th birthday at Hurley's and I could not have asked for a more perfect place. We had the beer garden on the third floor all to ourselves. Prior to the event I worked with Anne to book the room and set up the food order. She responded to my many emails promptly and was fantastic to work with. The night of the event Juan was our bartender and Mohammed was our server. Both gentlemen were fantastic and took wonderful care of our guests. We ordered different platters of appetizers and everything was delicious. The mac and cheese wedges were a big hit! David was the person in charge of my event and he was a delight. He made sure the serving of the food was staggered to accommodate guest arrival. He checked in with me periodically to make sure everything was okay and when it was time for cake he carried it out and then cut it up for the guests. It's an indoor/outdoor space and we couldn't have asked for better weather though I guess I can't give Hurley's credit for that. :) If you are looking for a place to host a party I highly recommend Hurley's. Hurley's is the quintessential midtown bar. Sometimes it's filled with Morgan Stanley bros (ugh) and sometimes it's filled with tourists (also ugh), but that's also because we are in the neighborhood for that to happen in. I've been going to Hurley's for years, though less frequently now that I don't work near Times Square anymore. However I can still walk in and have the bartenders recognize me. It's the type of place where it is what you make it. Three very underrated things at Hurleys. First, their wings straight up delicious. I'd say one of the best wings in the city. Second, they have Irish cheese fries and holy hell if you don't order this you're missing out. Third, their beer selection is pretty on point. Prices are what you'd expect for the neighborhood, and I only am giving this 4 instead of 5 because of the atmosphere it gets sometimes. This isn't totally in their control, and honestly, it's probably better for their business to have suits and tourists in there than an old NYC punk, but still isn't entirely my jam. If I could offer one piece of feedback for them, it would be to maybe offer a mid day happy hour (1-4) on bar snacks and drinks to keep it slightly busier. read more

Hurley's. An institution that, like a lot of such places, was frozen in time no later than 1999 (the first time I was in there) and has remained there ever since. Tucked away on 48th street just off Times Square between 7th and 8th it has a number of levels and different feels. There are two entrances to a lengthy bar that wraps around what was once the dividing wall between two properties. On the 8th Avenue side it is slightly lower, darker and sleazier. This is my preferred spot. Seating is at the bar, a few old high tops and some tight booths that just about seat 4 so long as no one is over 200lbs. The 7th Avenue side is slightly higher, slightly brighter and almost a little nicer. You will find me here when I am in with my mum. Upstairs there is a restaurant floor. Ate there once. It's not me. Food is a little fancier than in the bar but, and I stress this, not their forte. This is like being upstairs on an old 747. Sure it's cool climbing up there. But you soon realize that's all it has going for it. Downstairs a look at the wall reveals an affinity for our service members and first responders. Firemen from the midtown station on the corner can be found here, and have been known to remove argumentative patrons. This is a blue collar bar in the middle of an expensive tourist district in the wealthiest city in the world. Which brings me to why 5 stars? One, for a place yards from Times Square it has no tourists. None. Never seen one in there. For New Yorkers who want to call me a tourist, ok. For you a few tourists. And after you call me that you can go jump off a bridge because I spent more time in 'your' city than most of you, especially those of you under 25. Two, it doesn't want tourists and makes no effort to cater to them, like them or deal with them. I like this. I need this. Next the food. It is solid pub fare. The beef stew is excellent. The blackened chicken sandwich solid. Wings are spicy and not over cooked. Put simply this is simple food done well. It is also not at all over priced in a part of town where TGIF charges $25 for a turkey burger and stands for Thank God It's Full-of-tourists so none of them are in Hurley's. Thank applebys, Bubba Shrimp and every other plastic hellhole on Times Square as well. Not being known for my generosity and being half Scottish and half Jewish, this appeals. A lot. It is said the reason I have metal credit cards is so store owners can get them out of my hand with a wrench. So being able to eat dinner for 2 and have a beer for less than $50 is both welcome and rare in this part of town. Lastly, their draught beer/cider list is excellent, and for an Irish pub they sure like a lot of English beer. They have solid local Brooklyn brews as well, and an excellent choice of over 20 brews. They also serve Strongbow. Real strongbow. Flown in from England still tastes like cider not the sweetened up for millennial taste garbage that is sold in the US now as strongbow but the old good stuff. This is important. It gives me something to complain about to the bar staff when I have no other conversation. Lastly lastly the bar staff are quick, friendly and efficient, as are the wait staff. They have TVs everywhere and are happy to switch to your team (historically there was a Pittsburgh bias and this was a great place to watch the Steelers or penguins though I didn't see any terrible towels on show this weekend). My daughter and I went to the ciTy for a matinee yesterday, so made a reservation at Hurleys. Traffic was awful, so we were late for our reservation and had very little time before the show. The staff at Harley's made a very stressful situation so much easier by helping us pick simple easy foods and being willing to box the food up and hold it until after our show. When we went back after the show to pick up the food (delicious by the way), we stay and had a drink. We will definitely be back, just because of how they treated us. Good location. Easy to get a table. Service was top-notch. Food is just OK. I had Bangers and Mash. Expecting better from a place that calls itself an Irish Pub. Seriously?!?! We stopped in here because we were staying at the Gallivant (right next door). We had about 45 min to kill before we hail a cab back to the airport. We ordered 2 drafts. My mom sipped hers and it was bad. The bartender mysteriously disappeared... We finally flagged down some bus boy (?) and he poured her a new one... Which was even skunkier!!! (I took a whiff and nearly vomited it was so gross.) So we flag the busser down AGAIN and he says he will get her something else... But continued to do what he was doing for another 5+ minutes... Still no sight of our initial bartender. This is now about 15 minutes in and my mom still hadn't been able to enjoy a beer and the clock was ticking. Finally the kid gets her a bottle of Bud Light and she vowed to never drink draft again. The bartender eventually came back around, (where she went for so long, I have no idea) but we told her the Bud Light draft was skunky, she replies, "Must be the end of the keg." No "sorry" or apology in any way. Needless to say, this will be our only stop here as we are leaving the city in 10 minutes... read more

Easy spot for a quick pre theater drink or snack - the salads have nice fresh chicken and the chicken wings are top notch honestly should only get three stars but the art work pushes it to four. There are three insane paintings of celebrities in the front of Hurley's that are surreal, great and weirdly signed by the celebrity. I just want to imagine John Stamos and Brooke Shields looking at these interpretations of themselves and then signing a piece of paper to go underneath them. Bizarro. My husband and I, had the pleasure to dine-in at Hurley's Saloon, last night before the Bruce Springsteen show. We was seated on the second floor and was served by such a friendly waitress, who was very knowledgeable on the menu. My husband had beef stew and I had the swordfish following apple pie ala mode for dessert and Irish coffee, which was delicious. We where delighted with dinner and outstanding service, we will definitely come back and recommend our friends and family to eat at Hurley's. What a hidden gem! We called to see if they had outdoor seating with TV's and the owner was so friendly and warm, it convinced us to come in. We were seated quickly in their beautiful canopied area surrounded by attractive plants. They had 1 TV playing thefootball game of the week (but I was advised they will offer the full NFL package once indoor dining reopens). They had awesome drink specials at prices you'll be pressed to find elsewhere. Our waiter was attentive and the food was SO good. We ordered the steak salad and had a few canned/bottled beers. The friendly was of the staff, value, and atmosphere will keep us coming back for future games. If you're in the area looking for a sports sanctuary, this is it! read more

Came here last night to eat some dinner and watch UFC 190. We got here around 8pm and asked to be seated upstairs cause I know the bar downstairs will be packed with a lot of drunk people being loud during the fights. The person who I believe was the manager brought us upstairs and let us sit anywhere we wanted since we were the only people there at the time. Extremely nice and got everything set up for us pretty fast. The upstairs is very cosy and lights were dim, the air conditioner was really strong but no complaints cause it was hot out. For those who get cold easily bring a light sweater if you will be watching an event for a few hours. The waiter was a really nice Irish lady, very professional. She gave us time to order and made sure we got what we wanted. For appetizers we got the combo which came with wings, potato skin, mozzarella sticks, and chicken tenders. Not bad at all but nothing special. They also gave us a basket of rolls (room temperature) and butter. I ordered the steakhouse salad (medium rare, but came out medium) and it was pretty good and juicy. The steak was seasoned well but the sodium on that bad boy must've been really high. The salad came with tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, some roasted red bell peppers , and a fresh green mix with a balsamic soy vinaigrette . All in all it was delicious (next time I'll ask for less seasoning since it was really high in sodium) One of my friends got the shrimp and crab Mac and cheese which was alright. I tried a little and I tend to like my Mac and cheese thick. This Mac and cheese was more watery for my liking. It's topped with bread crumbs. The other friend got the Cobb salad which was okay. And the last friend got the house salad nothing special haha. As for drinks I got coffee while my friends got the yuengling draft and a rum and coke ( pretty strong) Dessert was just Ben and Jerrys icecream The fights were a bit long but the night ended well. Would've gave this place 4 stars but after finishing dinner they stopped refilling our glass of water and didn't come by as often. Overall it's a pretty decent place. Enjoy! read more

Too close to Times Square, by it gets better late in the evening (service industry). Great woodwork throughout. East side is thin with light colored walls/ceiling. Classic small black & white tiles on floor. Bar back is classic. Just bottles and hdtvs (quite a few throughout the bar), but the dark woodwork with arches is great looking. Maybe could have added some mirrors, but not complaining. Classic rock music and a good vibe What thru door and immediately encounter and high booth seat and high tables that are alon te entire east wall (break for the stairs), flyer the stairs, these tables are separated by dividers seen in many Irish bars. Granite bar top good rail padded seats with backs. Steel foot rail. Decent beer selection & food, especially the burgers / sandwiches. Decorated appropriately do Christmas, other times just low lighting. Not dark though. Mixed crowd, but mostly 35 and under, everyone laughing and having fun. Decent staff, they keep your beer full but don't seem super happy abou doing it. West side of Hurley's is nearly identical, just lower. Never made it upstairs. In the end, Hurleys is like so many other irish bars in midtown Manhattan. read more

Went Friday night for a friend's birthday - it's a great Irish Bar. Friendly but not so friendly, I don't want to smile at you and I have my own bit of harshness - Irish bartenders... you know the Good Old Classics. Drinks were good, they kept coming.....the kitchen is open late and the bar food is decent....I love Chicken Fingers so they get a thumbs up from me, haha. Now I gotta say, I only gave it THREE stars because of the way the treated the kids. They were NOT rude at all, however, I know they were kinda waiting for the table because a very large party was arriving and I was getting the feeling that we had to rush. Even though the owner, very kind gentleman that we could stay as long as we liked :~( Hmmm, I'm sure he meant well, but we were getting the 'look' from others :~( Ya know what I'm talking bout...when people want your table The food was good. I go to Hurley's whenever possible when I'm in the TS section of the city. I always go to the bar downstairs. I've ordered from the menu a few times. My choices were generally related to what I was drinking (or how long I'd been drinking.) There aren't any surprises and the food comes out as expected. Among the selections were a turkey club sandwich and Irish nachos (waffles fries loaded with cheese, etc). Both were as good as could be and hit the spot. The bartenders downstairs are very cool, if you catch them at not so busy time they're engaging and friendly. Mostly transplants from other places as many folks in Manhattan seem to be. There are lots of TV's and always with sports on (and not all NY sports teams.) Prices here are average considering they're a stones throw from Times Square. read more

I had my 50th birthday party at Hurley's on 12/30/18 and had the time of my life. Anne assisted me with booking the third floor room back in June. She was so helpful and informative. When the big day came, Anne was off and Emer made sure everything was to my satisfaction. Everything went exactly as planned. Emer would periodically check in to see how everything going and assisted us with whatever we needed. Emer was amazing!! My friends absolutely loved the food as so did I. When I arrived I was starving. I ordered the filet minion and it was delicious. The bartender was awesome and very attentive. Even though the tip was included, we gave extra because he was that great. Thank you Anne and Emer for making my special day very memorable! I will always recommend Hurley's to my friends and family. We were trying to find a nice place to eat away from the huge crowds. A lady at our hotel suggested Hurley's. She said it's where her and coworkers go to get away. Great advice. You walk into a long bar area with sports on the tvs. There is also an upstairs for restaurant seating by front door. Just past the bar is downstairs seating for the restaurant. Kinda fancy. But people were dressed down. Would be okay to be dressed up here too. Really nicely decorated. Staff is great. Three different people assisted us. They brought water and two types of rolls just after we were seated. They refill water and clear stuff from tables promptly. Meals are more on the sophisticated side. I don't think I would bring kids here. I had the penne Aurora. So good and creamy. Chicken was fall apart tender. I also got soft pretzels with beer cheese. I also got a to go box. LoL! My boyfriend got lobster bisque. He said it was the best he ever had. I don't like lobster do I didn't try it. For his main course he got chicken pot pie. I did try it. It was incredible. Really tender pieces of chicken. Not prepared like traditional chicken pot pie (see photos). Less breading and nice and flakey. I would definitely eat here again. read more

Last night was the second time that we brought over a dozen of us into Hurley's for a pre-Broadway show feast. Were were once again given an awesome semi-private area table and we we received awesome, very attentive service from our waitress who hails from Cork County Ireland. Everyone I asked really enjoyed their meal and our waitress made sure we stayed on schedule to get to our show early. We'll be back! read more

This is a tough on to review, so let me start off like this: Food: 4 Stars. Service: 2 Stars. VERY slow. Price: 4 Stars. On par with the city and location, but I will say a tad higher here IMHO.... We took in dinner here before heading out for a sight-seeing tour on a Monday night at about 5:30 or so. Pretty crowded restaurant and we were sat very quickly in their restaurant area upstairs, in what I assume was their library room - a room with books everywhere. Very nice. If you check in here on Yelp, you will be offered a $4.00 pint of beer special. But just one pint :-(. There were servers briskly walking around, so not sure why the service was very slow. I ordered the French Onion soup for an app and it was really, really good!! I guess you can call me a French Onion Soup snob and I love me some of this, so I am very particular and judgmental on this soup. I didn't take a pic, but if you like FO Soup, this one was definitely in my Top 5 of all time. Very flavorful and had the right amount of cheese and bread! My Mom ordered their Mediterranean Hummus plate, which came with Kalamata olive salad & toasted pita bread. Hummus was very bland and didn't have much flavor at all, but the toasted pita was warm and fresh. We'll skip that next time. For our meals, I ordered their Empire State Cobb Salad, which consisted of Field greens with grilled chicken, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, cheddar cheese and apples. Not too shabby!!! It could have had more bacon on it, but it was very good, generous amount of chicken and it hit the spot. My wife ordered their Southwestern Chicken Salad; Cinnamon & chipolte dusted chicken breast, tomatoes, roasted corn, black beans guacamole, cheddar & jack cheese, southwestern ranch. I was jelly. That was better!! The Southwestern ranch dressing certainly had a nice kick to it! Food was really good except for the Hummus and the service. Very slow. It took what seemed like forever for our salads and I did notice others that were there before us, get their food at a very slow rate as well - and the servers weren't by any means just standing around. They were running at times in and out of the kitchen, so not sure why the slow service. I'd come back for their French Onion soup and maybe a cocktail, but not for a full meal. read more

Hurley's is your run of the mill basic sports bar that offers a low key end of night vibe. I came here last Friday after bouncing around a few spots in the Time Square area. At 10pm it was actually pretty empty and quiet. This fit our mood just fine as we were looking to turn down for the night. Hurley's offers a range of seating from the bar, large booths in the back, and single tables for couples. They also have TVs strategically placed everywhere. This bar makes a great spot to watch some sports games. The one major plus I loved about this place is the drinks. The shots we ordered were huge! Definitely a bang for your buck. For food my group order the chicken tender and fries. It was okay, nothing to rave about but it does the trick when your drunk. Overall, I had a decent experience here. Solid bar to turn down. It doesn't seem like it gets to crazy here so if you are looking for a party spot this may not be the place. read more

We went before the theatre tonight. As soon as we were seated, we told them we had tickets to a show. Our order was taken quickly, we got wonderful bread and our drinks. Our food came quickly. There were 5 of us- between us we had squash ravioli in a very buttery sauce, two had a chicken dish that they really enjoyed, a Southwest salad which our friend liked- he said the dressings were nice and spicy. I had Shepherd's pie which was good but the gravy was very heavy- I couldn't finish it but it was enjoyable. Only drawback was trying to get water refills and our check when we wanted it. I would go back when I wasn't heading to the theatre so I could try one of the interesting looking martinis- I can't drink before a show because I get sleepy. read more

i had lunch at Hurleys on Sunday and chose it because of its location. I had few expectations but also needed a place with simple food for my non gourmet friend. We both were delighted by the great service, food and relaxing atmosphere. We were able to sit in a booth and have a conversation without interference from radios and loud dinners. In addition, the food was delicious! While not cheap, it was well worth the price for the quality and quantity. My new go to place in the very over-priced theater district. read more

My first visit to a bar in NYC, and it was almost ruined by the poor service from or server, Melissa. She took our first drink order, and then when a bigger table came in, she completely abandoned our table. I watched as they had drinks, appetizers, and then entrees. I eventually had to go get her from behind the bar and ask for our check. We closed out with her, then proceeded to go to the other side of the bar with our friends and have drinks and appetizers for a couple more hours. If she had been attentive, that would've been her business and tip. Sadly, she decided we were not important enough. Other than her poor service, the bar was nice, the drinks were good, and the appetizers were what you'd expect from a bar. I would go back again, but I wouldn't have her as a server. read more
