We are driving through and saw several cars on in the parking lot and decided to give the place a try. I ordered the chopped BBQ platter and what can I say but YUMMY! The bbq was just right and the coleslaw can stand on its side own. The prices are cheap, too! Definitely give a high recommendation. Saw the sign on I-40 for years. I thought it would be old-style and hickory-smoked, so we finally went for it. The Q seemed to be the opposite - more commercial and something I could prepare quickly in the oven. It wasn't bad food, but was not on par with average, good NC barbeque. read more

Excellent service was quick and very friendly. I ordered the pulled pork tray which came with slaw and hush puppies. All the food was excellent and tasted fresh. I did not see a smoker behind the restaurant, however, so I wonder where the meat is cooked? I'd stop here again while driving through. This place has great bbq and I highly suggest their broasted chicken! I've always been seated right away and the service has been fantastic each time I've been. Being raised on Eastern Carolina BBQ and I smoke my own, my wife says I'm a BBQ snob. But Hursey's BBQ wasn't bad at all. We were headed up to VA and was getting hungry as it was way past lunch time. We saw the sign for Hursey's and pulled off of the interstate. The BBQ was smoky and moist but had a really fine chop on it. Slaw was the green mayo based slaw but wasn't to bad as I am used to the Eastern Carolina red vinegar based slaw. The dip was slightly syrupy with plenty of red pepper flakes and had a sweet taste up front before the heat showed up. Hush puppies were good with a slight buttery flavor. I got a sample of the brunswick stew and my wife and I decided to take a quart with us for supper the next night. It was really good with a lot of shredded chicken, plenty of vegetables and seasoned just right. Some of the best we've had. Service was A-OK. As a BBQ snob, I can say if your a BBQ fan, Hursey's is worth a try. read more

It's an out of the way bbq stop for me but so far I have found that they make an amazing Brunswick stew. So far it's really the only food item I'd recommend. Fried chicken isn't bad but I'd prefer a restaurant that specializes in fried chicken. But try the Brunswick stew. More meat than veggies. Food is good, service is the worst I have ever seen! Went to drive thru and ordered 4 pieces of WHITE meat chicken. Got home and had 2 drumsticks and 2 thighs. I called the restaurant and asked to speak to the store manager to explain what happened, the girl who answered the phone asked my name and put me on hold. She came back on the phone and told me the manager was to busy to talk to me. Seeing I could not speak directly to the manager, I went to Facebook and on their page posted what happened hoping to get a response. Not only did I not get a response, they deleted my comments! A restaurant can NOT survive with this sort of attitude towards customers, so I expect this restaurant will be closing soon. read more

As far as the bbq, you can get better at Cookout if you can't get to Lexington. Their chicken is very good and so is their potato salad.

Check out the health department report on the alamance county website. The Burlington location was written up for improper storage of their soy protein product! I bet this location uses it to "extend" their pork further also! No wonder their chopped is tasteless and bland...it is only part bbq! read more

Friendly service and fair prices are a hallmark for this place. I will say that the staff member who took our order had no idea what a few of the options were -- broasted chicken and the chuckwagon sandwich. If you're taking orders, you need to know this stuff. We stopped in when they opened on a Saturday. We had the broasted chicken (excellent), a half rack of baby back ribs (good, but not remarkable), hushpuppies (very good!), cole slaw (good, fairly plain), and fries (good). Sweet tea was excellent. Service was fantastic, very quick and very professional, and the prices are very reasonable. I'd go again just for the broasted chicken. read more
