Update to my review: As I previously mentioned my salesman represented to me in July that he was selling me an energy efficient HVAC system. After spending 13 hours installing the system the installer gave me the paperwork for the system which showed that it was the least energy efficient unit. My latest PSEG bill for my little townhouse was $1340 even though I turn the heat way down when I leave for work in the morning. I asked Hutchinson to honor the clause in their contract that states if I am dissatisfied with the unit for any reason in the first year they will refund my money paid. They have refused to honor the contract. Therefore? I am bringing suit for the $12,000 plus the $1000 extra per month for my gas and electric bills. I have never dealt with such a dishonest and unreputable company. read more

Won't fix expensive HVAC system that started failing when still under warranty. Just added more freon instead of finding the leak until machine was out of warranty. Then told me I need a whole new HVAC system (11 years old). Also found out from another Carrier-approved tech that there are a number of ways my system was installed incorrectly. Now I have been waiting 2 days for a call back from customer relations after waiting the 12 hours I was asked to then calling back and only being able to speak to a phone operator 4 times today stating she will email someone (won't give me an email address to send a message) to call me back. I have no AC and my son is graduating next week, had to get ready for prom in a 92 degree house. Stop hiding behind your phone wall and CALL ME BACK. read more

Had water leaking on the basement floor from inside unit. Initially thought condensate pump so replaced myself. Next day water showed up again about 2 gallons. Family member recommended Hutchinson ... should have read reviews online would not have called. The good: They showed up same day as promised and appear to have a 24 hour call center. Trucks and technician were clean and professional. The bad: Service and customer follow-up. Tech came out to house said older unit should be replaced but based on his inspection of unit said there is probably a leak in the system which he "confirmed" by the Freon being low and added 2 lbs of Freon for roughly a $500 charge. He said the low Freon caused the coil to freeze and that was the source of the water. He said the Freon was low because most likely small hole in coil. Was informed there was a product called stop leak available for another $300 charge I declined at this point (the stop leak sounded like the HVAC equivalent of Bar's Leak). He also mentioned I should put a t-line on the condensate drain so I could flush/clean easier. He said that would run about $300 for him to do so I said I'd take care of it as it is a simple cut and fitting. He said water should stop and give it about 24 hours. Gave it about 6 hours - about 2 gallons of water poured back onto floor so cut condensate line to put t-adapter on. Line was bone dry so at this point called Hutchinson back. They said there would be another service fee to come out. I informed them they were called for water and mentioned the tech who came out never confirmed that the condensate line was draining nor opened the inside unit to inspect the coil. Just noticed filter inside and outside unit was dirty, the system felt cold near the condensate line confirming the coil was freezing, as well as Freon was low and filled it. I called 2 other companies for opinions and was informed that would be one of the very last steps (Freon recharge) and that what was actually causing the water leak needed to be confirmed and the source(s). Called another company for service - their tech arrived Saturday - saw the condensate line wasn't draining any water so dismantled the inside unit and saw that the drain pan was rusted out with a simple water test by pouring water into the pan. He informed me the pan was soldered to the coil and recommended replacement of unit as patches/repairs might create more problems. Not sure if there was a cheaper fix but based on age of unit decided that replacement although not desired would be best route. Tried calling Hutchinson and seeing if they would offer some sort of refund on the Freon or alleviate my concern somehow. I was told no in multiple ways and was also informed that the stop leak recommendation would have allowed the tech to find the drain pan leak???? At this point I would recommend steer clear of them unless it is an emergency as they were available and did show up. Very expensive, was adamant that they did nothing wrong during multiple calls to try to find some remedy, did not fix the original issue at all and in my opinion: Troubleshooting a rusted out drain pan by taking off the access panel to the coil seems like a pretty "basic" diagnostic. We ended up using another company who only recommended replacement and said they wouldn't attempt to repair although it might be possible and amazingly the other company had zero charge whether or not I bought a new unit. Hutchinson never fully diagnosed the system yet managed to hit me with a $500 bill. Overall, terrible company, terrible customer service. read more

Hutchinson was purchased by Horizon Services September of 2020. It is not the same local company. Unless you want the corporate chaos with insane charges and upselling, move on.......quickly. We had made a recent call for service on our hvac system and didn't know that things had changed. Really strange when the repair guy, a total stranger, hands you their cell phone to talk to someone in sales during covid. Felt like he was sharing his dinner fork and feeding me to the devil. Didn't get more than a few words in before we said "enough" and parted ways with a $140 bill and not even an offer to repair....typical "you need a whole new system". read more

BEWARE! This company is nothing but a rip off artist. My moms furnace quit recently. These "professionals" show up and tell her she needs $3000+ in parts, but they wont repair it, only sell her a whole new unit for $7000+. She needed an igniter. Celtic Air fixed it in less than an hour, and surprise surprise, it only cost me $350. Hopefully bankruptcy is in Hutchinson's near future. read more

We had routine maintenance scheduled with Hutchinson, who installed our unit. Our air conditioner was working PERFECTLY fine prior to this service. The guy left and within 30 min I realized the air conditioner was off and not working, this was about 12:40 pm. I called and they transferred me to dispatch, the number rang and rang and then went to a full voicemail. I called back and they said dispatch were all on calls and they would send a message out to give me a call and they would put us on a waiting list from 2 pm-6pm. I told them this was completely unacceptable and I wanted someone to come right away. It is 91 degrees out today. They came and broke our air conditioner and now want to monopolize our entire day and make us wait in a house with out air conditioner?! The representative said she would relay this to dispatch and have them call me. 30 minutes went by and dispatch never bothered to call me back. I then placed a third call to them and they again said they could offer the waitlist from 2-6. Absolutely DISGUSTED with this service. We also had an issue a few months ago and when the agent came he was SO rude and giving an attitude to my elderly grandmother. He told me he knew everything about the units in our neighborhoods but didn't even know where to find the air filter. Would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. If I could give negative stars I would. UPDATE: We waited from 2-6 pm and did not hear from Hutchinson again until 6:42 PM at which time they told us they did not have an available technician as their one technician was tied up at a job the rest of the night. One technician????? They did not seem to care at all that they were leaving us day and night on a 90 degree day with no air conditioning after it was their mistake that left us without it. They then gave us a time slot of 10 am-2 pm the next day, just expecting all this free time for us to have waiting at home for them. Luckily my uncle was able to drive over an hour to come and get the unit back working for us last night at 8 pm. It was honestly a very simple fix that would've been quickly fixed if they had sent a technician back immediately. A customer service representative did call around 9 am this morning apologizing to my grandmother for this poor service. They offered her to complimentary extend her service for another year, which she was satisfied with. She was much more understanding than I would be, but neither of us would recommend this company going forward. I have used Hutchinson for several years on their "worry free" program. Each year we hear a different story of how our system is old and non compliant. Hutch wants us to ditch our old working system and drop 20k on a new one! This last visit to fix our AC system(which they installed years ago). This business has misled us significantly, costing us money and time. We had Hutchinson replace our heater and air conditioner at once. We were very clear with our salesman Joe H that we were interested in the NJ Cool Advantage rebate program, and he said it was expiring and it was not known if it was being extended. However, the AC system we were looking at would certainly qualify. We moved ahead, and after everything was installed, we still didn't have the paperwork we needed to apply. We pushed for a month, but Joe was out of the office and his manager, Steve M, was completely unresponsive for well over a week until Joe came back. When we finally received paperwork, we submitted to NJ to be told that their receipt and our SKU numbers didn't match. We asked for paperwork to be redone, and it was a hassle to get that too. Finally, we got it and resubmitted only to be told our system has a rating of 12.5, and we needed a 13. We weren't eligible, despite the conversation with Joe. It's not hard to believe that the paperwork was so difficult to get because it exposed the initial lie that resulted in the sale. read more

Zero trust and once done with an existing service agreement I will never do business with them again. Their technicians are fine, their back office and customer support is less than impressive. Start with a new HVAC installation on a brand new house last year where they never cleaned the ducts and undersized a intake duct return resulting in excessive noise. Continue on to pre-paying for a all inclusive service agreement with 2 annual visits. They apparently forgot. I had to call and remind them. They apparently did not properly record I pre-payed for a all inclusive agreement. As a result I was charged during the inspection for a repair which the tech then realized should not have been charged. Its now 3 weeks and no credit. Call the office, "we will get back to you", ask for management and they require "24-48 hours to return a call". You probably want nothing to do with Hutchinson. read more

Your company finished installing a NEW heating and air conditioning system at my in-laws house on Friday. Yesterday (the NEXT day), there was the strong smell of gas so we called PSE&G. They found SEVEN leaks INSIDE the house at the furnace YOU just installed. They had to shut off the gas. We called your company and waited as instructed but got no call back. We called again, and waited another half hour for a call back - we were told a technician would be out within 2 hours. A technician came out and said it can't be fixed until Monday. He also took with him the temporary heater, making matters worse. Failing to identify and correct leaks on a new system is negligence. To compound that, you failed to fix your mistake in a timely manner. The life and health of two elderly people were at risk, and for at least TWO nights they are without heat or hot water - in January. We've been calling all day and leaving messages and emails, getting no where. We finally got temporary heaters dropped off, but your technician just says there's nothing they can do until Monday. You created a problem and appear unable to solve it without causing additional stress and lack of use. Is it unreasonable to expect that a new system that cost $10,000 be installed so it DOESN'T have SEVEN leaks? And is it unreasonable to expect that when notified, the offending company should respond immediately to correct the problem? And lest owner Bob reply with the "we continually strive" line, we even tried to reach the Service Group Manager Mike Shiles to no avail. Everything after hours goes to an answering service, and it seems there are 1, maybe 2 techs on call - who it seems are unable to provide actual assistance. - Fix the issues TOMORROW, first thing; - Have a supervisor check the work and confirm it is fixed, in writing; - Provide an explanation and an apology, in writing; - Compensate my parents for the stress and lack of use that resulted. read more

Made an appointment for an HVAC check up and they needed 2 week lead time, which is fine. Then the day of my appointment, they call to cancel. "We don't have a tech that can spend time on a check up today." Seems pretty unprofessional to take appointments only to cancel them the day of. But then I'm offered to reschedule...over 3 weeks out! What's to stop them from canceling that one the day of because they have more "important" jobs that popped up that day? Epitome of a terrible company that is willing to take your $10K to install a system, and now that your requests are not "lucrative" anymore to just dick you around. read more

The technician was very good at resolving my issue, less than 20 minutes. The capacitor and one other part had to be replaced in my air conditioning unit. I was then told that I could save $50.00 if I would allow a sales person to come out. That person wanted to sell me a replacement of my heater and air conditioner for $25k - 17K. We had nothing else to do that day so I let him go through his pitch. None of that was an issue. My issue was that I don't get the discount and a the price they charged for the replacement parts was out wat too high. I looked the part up online and they were $15.00 to $20.00. What I was charged for this parts were way out of line. read more

Unprofessional service. Written hard copy of the estimate detailing services to be performed not available. Document was shown on a iPad with Total dollars only. Don't recall seeing a breakout by service and the associated cost for each projects. Two different issues were identified and I thought the estimate covered both problems. after completing the work on one problem, I was told the estimate didn't include both problems. I would never had agreed to their services had I been given a hard copy of the estimate. The cost was extremely excessive for the work performed. Adding insult to injury, the tech was going to leave without giving me an invoice. I had to request an invoice for a $500+ job. His explanation was an invoice would be e-mailed to me . I'm still waiting. There will be no callback for the other plumbing project. I'm not even sure the work described in the verbal estimate is required or accurate. I don't trust the tech . I should have read the Yelp reviews prior to contacting Hutchinson. There seems to be a common trend here! I would not recommend Hutchinson to family or friends. read more

My husband called Hutchinson to look at our A/C unit. A fan blade had cracked. The service person came out to look. He advised us to purchase a new unit because of age of the unit. My husband told him we've never had a problem with the system in 12 years, and didn't want to replace it if it can be repaired. The technician talked him into a service contract that included a 10 point inspection 2 times a year. Labor for repairs would be covered, and any parts replacements needed would come with a discount. The fan blade was ordered, and installed after a month or so (we weren't using the A/C because it was november-December at the time). The technician came out to do the 10 point service. The tech told my husband that we needed 2 parts to be replaced, and that they would call when they came in. They discussed the cost, and my husband even questioned how expensive the capacitor was, but he trusted the technician, and agreed to the repairs. My husband had researched the cost of the fan blade, and what hutchinson charged was reasonable. Why would my husband question the legitimacy of the cost for these two parts? Today, we got a call that the parts were in and they'd be out to install after 2PM. The tech arrived, and went to the furnace. He asked me then "Did your husband leave his credit card here?" I thought that was a very odd thing to ask, and I began to feel uncomfortable. My husband, who had been upstairs, came downstairs and spoke to the tech. After 10 minutes of being in the house, the job was complete. We paid the bill, which was exorbitant (despite the discount we got for having a contract with them). We were charged $149.00 for a flame sensor and $260.00 for a inducer run capacitor. The tech left the house. I told my husband about the credit card comment. We both became suspicious. My husband decided to look online for the cost of those parts. The flame sensors run about $15 and the capacitor about $25. Our daughter called a friend of hers who is an HVAC specialist and he said we were ridiculously overcharged. We estimated we were charged 1000% markup for the parts. By the way, the tech never changed/nor cleaned the filter, which is part of the service contract we purchased. We have called the company and the customer service rep is looking into the gross overcharge. She said they charge a flat rate, and they are definitely more expensive than other area companies. We didn't do our due diligence by researching the company and reviews, and we're paying the price. No one likes to feel duped, especially by a company that's been in business as long as they have. The whole experience leaves a bad taste. We decided not to do further business with Hutchinson. Through our daughter, we found a much better option. read more

This past year I've started using them again after taking a break to use another company. They used to be pretty expensive, but not too bad. The technicians are generally competent and have helped to resolve my problems, but the pricing is now so far over local competition that I don't understand how they maintain business. They just charged me $400 ($320 + $79 minimum visit fee) to install a $20 part that was easily accessible. I have the part in my hand, it's a $20 dual capacitor to start and run the fan on the outdoor part of a central A/C unit. Total tech time here was 1 hour. I understand that there's labor and travel cost involved, but that is crazy. This isn't a 1 time thing either, the initial cost they gave me to install a water heater was more than 40% higher than competitors. Their quoted cost to install a tankless water heating system was nearly 50% higher than local competition as well. read more

I had Hutchinson Plbg. at my house on Feb. 16th to install a faucet to a bar sink and hook up an ice maker to my refridgerator. I foolishly agreed to the estimate of 2700.00. Three hours later, the work was done. After thinking about that overnight, I called customer service and wanted to speak to someone about the bill.I was told that someone would call me on the 20th as the 19th was a holiday. That never happened,so I called again and was told by,Lilly in customer service that Hutchinson had a policy that return calls must be mad within 24 business hours.That never happened either.The bottom line is Hutchinson customer service is deplorable, their prices are outrageous and I am a dope for using them. read more

I have had an ongoing dispute with Hutchinson over service work that was done on our AC unit since last May. I have sent two emails and made numerous calls to try to settle this dispute and haven't been able to get anyone in management to return my phone calls. As far as we are concerned, their management is seriously lacking. We had two separate service calls done on our unit, it was never fixed, and we ended up having to replace the entire unit. Poor customer service and management as far as we are concerned. Add on to original review... you send me a message to call your customer service dept...????????? We don't WANT to talk to your customer service department anymore, we want to talk to someone in management! We spent over $600.00 to "fix" our air conditioner last May and it stopped working a 1/2 hr. after the tech left. A different tech is sent back and he says it can't be fixed, we need a new one! When I talk to your customer service dept all they keep telling me is that the tech came out ($79.00), I signed the work order (yes I did, it was working when he drove out of my driveway) and if I don't pay the bill I will be handed over to a collection agency. All I wanted was someone in management to call us back so we can discuss this, but I guess that's too much to ask. Some know this but others don't. 1 out of every 10 techs know what they are doing , very little experience here with their technicians. Also watch out for Rocco the Hvac manager he is really a salesman and has no technical skills.I would recommend horizon before I recommend Hutchinson. read more

I had an interesting interaction with a technician who came to repair the AC unit last week. The Service Manager, Rocco, followed up with a call to me today to discuss what had occurred with the technician, he explained the issue with the system that initiated the repair call (it was a part issue, not a work issue). He did not make apologies for the technician's behavior and explained the ways in which they will coach the employees to interact in a more professional manner in the future. He was very reasonable, listened to my concerns and assisted me with setting up my next maintenance service. I appreciate the attentive response and education for the staff. read more

I recommend Steve M. If I need service in the future I'll definitely ask for him First of all I think he is a very hard worker, very conscientious. The guy was obviously in pain physically and I felt bad for him having to climb my stairs. He just did a great job, not letting that hold him back or make any excuses. I have used this company for many years. They are sending me emails every day with offers and ads. I called on Monday because my toilet is leaking. I was given an appointment for Wednesday. After I stayed home from work and waited for half a day and no-one showed up I called back and I was told that they are not serving my area anymore!!!!! Why was I given an appointment on Monday and had to wait for 2 days with a broken toilet if they are not serving my area anymore? This is how they treat a customer of many years. Hutchinson charged me $69 to tell me that to repair and clean my heater would cost $1000 but they could sell me a new one that cost $9000. That price eventually went down to $6900 the longer I told them no. Only catch was I had to act today. I called PSEG. The staff was very friendly and courteous but price was very high. Our A/C unit went out on Friday afternoon and Hutchinsons came out Saturday afternoon and looked our unit and said they had to special order parts and they MAYBE able to fix for $1000 but should consider replacing for $ 6600. My friend recommended another repair company who repaired SAME DAY for $350 and would replace for $3500. They tell you parts need special order so they can up sell you for thousands that are not needed. If anyone needs repair or replacement let me know and I will give you to Joe! read more

Reading the reviews below, I realize now that I should have done due diligence before calling these guys. Called them for routine (though overdue) AC and furnace maintenance. Service technician (unsurprisingly?) told us that one of our central AC units and one furnace needed replacement. We trusted him. They sent in a sales person "just" to discuss options (we thought). He pressured us into buying (just would not leave, "what would it take for you to buy this today?"). I told the salesman so after we made the purchase. Then the installation guys were terrible at communication: they left one evening without telling me the job wasn't complete (last I spoke to them they said they would be done under an hour). Thinking that the installation had gone wrong, I called Hutchinson and held on for 30 minutes at a stretch twice (and then once again the next morning) waiting for answers. Turns out they hadn't done the work and were planning to come back. Not a big deal but just wish that someone had told me so that I hadn't spent so much of time holding on the phone. The next day they don't show up when promised: once again, if only someone had updated me about the delayed arrival time. Finally, the salesman and the technicians told that they would file the required permit with the town (for a new new furnace) and complete warranties for us but that was handled by a different department. Now I'm trying to connect with Hutchinson and have held on to the phone longer than I would like (with one representative simply hanging up on me after "connecting" me to the relevant department) in order to find out the status of our permit/town inspection. This place is like dealing with a government bureaucracy: anyone you speak to says that they actually don't handle that thing and it's some other department that does and then you have to hold on the phone for ages before speaking to that person (if you get through at all). Mostly I can't help but look back at that pressure sale (and also the assessment that our perfectly functioning units needed replacement: we agreed because they were 20+ years old) and feel nothing but regret for signing up with this company. Long time customer of Hutchinson and I think that their Heating & Air Conditioning service is excellent. However, I was really disappointed in what happened when I used them for a minor plumbing repair. After posting some negative reviews of the company regarding their pricing, one of the owners called me to discuss my complaints. He explained why their prices are so much higher than other companies. He did give me a $50 coupon towards anything I wanted - parts, service, maintenance monthly fee, etc. I was happy he reached out and will continue to use them for my HVAC needs, just not my plumbing repairs. A little bit goes a long way with customer service and they held up their end. read more

I have been a customer for 4-5 years and have had a service contract (monthly debit)with them for that long. Up to this year was very satisfied. This year, they did not call to schedule the Spring Maintenance visit, for A/C checkup, and when I realized that, I called middle of May, after mildly using A/C. "First available- July(1st week)" That to me is middle of the A/C year and inferior service as they are advertising all over the internet, trying to sell various HVAC products or Plumbing Also refused to transfer me to a supervisor or allow me to appeal to a higher level. I wish I had read the reviews before I contacted them for service. I believe that I was ripped off by the technician who said he didn't know how to operate the NEST system yet charged me an additional $200 to connect a 'wire' to avoid having to charge a nonexistent battery. I committed to service for a year but I will not renew the contract. I was taken advantage of because of the extreme heat and need to have my AC working again. Buyer beware. New furnace installed 8/14, and still cannot turn it on because the day of install, was told by Hutchinson installers they didn't have a flue reducer part on the truck and somebody will come back out with the part in a day or so. Promptly wanted payment of $10,000 that day though. Called 3 weeks later, and they had no record of needed part to finish the job. Was told somebody will call back that day - no call. Called a few days later, same story and no call back. Called a few days later, asked for manager. He stated installer will be out within the week and we will receive a call. Guess what, no call or tech showed up. It has now been 1.5 months, and we need heat. Dropping down to 55 at night tonight. Hutchinson claims they are customer service oriented, but this was certainly not been my experience. Each person we have spoken with about this issue has not exhibited any customer service, and just kicked it over for "somebody" else to deal with. read more
