Paid over 25K for HVAC Gurus to install Heat Pump system in my home. This company only pulled mechanical permit after I complained when it was discovered almost 2 months later. The inspector said we needed an electrical permit as well and it took MANY phone calls and another month before HVAC Gurus actually pulled this permit. The first inspection failed because they did not install a GFI outlet on the outside of the house where some electrical equipment was installed. They charged me an additional $650 to resolve what should have been installed properly in the first place. The second inspection because they used flexible conduit from the electrical panel to the ceiling and code requires rigid pipe. They were also cited for using incorrect wiring colors, black wire for HOT line which has to be red to meet building code. This is pretty basic stuff. HVAC Gurus ignored all attempts to remedy the situation amicable and totally dropped the ball. I don't recommend this company to anyone. The workmanship is sub-par at best and they don't stand by their workmanship and their customer service is the worst! I also learned (the hard way) it's never wise to pay any contractor in full until permit inspection has passed. In the end, I hired a qualified electrician and it cost me another $600 to fix the wiring screwup. I would NEVER do business with this company again! read more

The sales and installation experience with HVAC Gurus started off great. The sales team was responsive, professional, and quick to help me select the right heat pump. Installation was smooth and the technicians did a good job. **** [PROBLEM] **** However, things completely changed after the installation was done and the invoice (including the city permit fee) was fully paid. Part of the contract clearly states that HVAC Gurus would handle the entire city permit application and approval process, and they even charged me for the permit. But weeks later, the permit process has still not been initiated. I've followed up multiple times. No one answers the phone. No one calls back. I've sent emails -- no response. At one point the sales agent mentioned there was "a lot of crowd in the city office," but since then I've heard nothing. The lack of communication is extremely frustrating, especially because my rebates and tax credits for this year are at risk if the permit isn't filed promptly. It's disappointing to see how responsive they were before the sale, only to go radio silent afterward. If they get back to me, submit the permit immediately, and follow through as promised, I'm happy to update this rating. $5000 in rebates & Tax Credits are at risk for me. Ultimately they did the work but were very difficult to deal with throughout. I think they are accustomed to working without a permit but I had them write the permit into their contract and they charged me an extra $1000 for it, but I still I had to fight them about it. Edit to add in response to their comment, I have double confirmed it is the same company. it is very concerning that they "do not pull permits" (per their comment) yet they accepted my contract charging me an extra $1000 to pull my permit. Sort reviews by newest first just to see how bad this installer is. We had a Carrier heat pump system installed ~4 years ago in a new construction house. The AC won't cool the house to temp, the heater has needed a replacement compressor and fan blade. However, after installation we have never been able to get in touch with HVAC & Insulation Gurus, and neither has our contractor. They disappear after their work is done, and it's difficult to get any kind of support from them - they don't answer emails, they don't answer calls, the HVAC Gurus website doesn't even work. read more

Extremely disappointed with HVAC Gurus. I had two Carrier units installed in 2024 and both started leaking within a few months. Instead of properly fixing the issue, their team simply recharged the system. It leaked again within the year because the refrigerant pipes were never repaired and had been leaking from the beginning. When the system failed again, HVAC Gurus refused to take responsibility. I ended up having to pay out of pocket to get the system properly diagnosed and repaired by another company. Poor workmanship, no accountability, and unacceptable customer service. If you're considering a project with this guys, don't! Their work is sloppy and they are incredibly disorganized. So much so that they cost me $3000 by forgetting to file for SVCE rebates! In detail: the sales rep who came out was a nice guy and at least pushy of all of the ones we quoted. The price was kind of mid pack, but it was full service with permits and rebates so we went with them. Big mistake. The first thing is the quote jumped about 10% because the technician destroyed the existing runs when removing them, so new lines needed to be purchased. While installing the condensation line from the air handler, the tech first mauled his way through my brand new framing, using what looked like a screwdriver. He then asked my plumber to tie the line into our sink's ptrap. When I called them and told them this is unacceptable and not code. HVAC Gurus said it's a matter of opinion opinions. I don't think the inspector will see it that way. They failed the first inspection for really careless things like the size of the breaker was bigger than what the heat pump could handle. A few months later, while I was in the attic, I noticed all the insulation batts have been pulled back where they installed new boots in the ceiling. I find it deeply ironic a company calling themselves insulation gurus couldn't even put in the effort to cut the existing batts to size and put them back. After we passed inspection, they assured me I would have the SVCE rebate in 60 days. That came and went I asked again no response. I reached out to the HERS rating team and they said that HVAC Gurus never requested an SVCE rebate. I honestly can't tell if this is dishonesty or incompetence. Called them via yelp about to get a quote on the insulation for attic and crawlspace. Their tech showed up on time, he was polite and checked the crawl space and attic. He took all the photos, measurements and told me that he would send me a quote in a couple of days. A couple of days later, I got a message from them saying that they are not doing insulation anymore. I replied asking for an explanation as the guy was clearly in my home taking pictures and giving an unwritten work estimate. They ghosted me. I called them and spoke with someone who said that there were 3 quotations ready as per my request, but he couldn't send them. Very weird and disappointing experience. In an effort to move forwards, I accepted their apologies and went ahead with full quote of 4.8K after they completed the promised work, and as a symbol of apology they also threw some freebies(installed a auto-drain shutoff and helped seal off a gaps in ceiling where air was leaking from attic) I am changing this to 4 stars, not because of the additional services provided but management went above and beyond to fix things and promised to prevent it further. After telling me I didn't need a permit, when I insisted, they not only charged me to do the permit process, but also changed the plans they were selling me (to charge more money) because it should have been that way to pass permit. Then they never pulled a permit but I have asked dozens of times since October. Now in December they send a text message that they can't pull one and I have to do it myself- never offering a refund. When I needed help knowing what to mark on the permit they never answered my voicemail. And when I asked about service, never got a call back either. We had someone come out to give us a free estimate to seal off any entry points in our attic and put new insulatio. During the inspection they broke a piece of our attic door leaving an opening. I sent pictures, several emails and called and was told they would replace it. That never happened. This was in Jan of 2024. Sadly shortly after we were dealing with a major familt matter and I wasn't able to follow up again until a month ago. No response to any of my messages. I called and spoke to someone and sent her the pictures again and she told me it isn't their responsibility to fix it and why had I waited so long. He was very clean and made sure not to bring dirt into the house while coming in and out to thoroughly look at all of our vents. Following the completion of the service he showed me before and after pictures of all work and explained how the system was working. I inquired about a few additional services I was interested in and he provided quotes within the hour after he completed the job. I have kids and a dog so it's important to me that if I'm giving someone my business they also provide good customer service when on-site completing work. Andres was great and we were happy with the work and clean up as well as how quickly the company was able to schedule us in. Stephan was great! Friendly and let me watch him do the Nest installations so I understood how it all worked (while not difficult, I was too lazy and had him do it--I did supply the physical units). While it's not cheap, again, you're paying for the convenience, so it will always be at a premium. However, when I solicited quotes, their final price ended up being market rate. Stephan also took my old thermostats to dispose of, which was initially not a problem since it never struck me to keep them. But I later realized I should probably hold onto them in case the Nest ones break down. I had to make a couple calls to arrange a dropoff (since they really couldn't drop these off unless they were on a service call around there + I was not really willing to drive to San Jose for these), but eventually Stephan himself actually came back and dropped them off for me. I had hvac gurus install a furnace/ac and new ducting in 2018. the experience at the time was awful and since the install I have had to have multiple HVAC professionals out to fix their work. During the install, it required multiple meetings to get the system permitted because they didn't know the local laws. It also barely passed efficiency because the registered weren't installed properly in all rooms. in addition, they tried to charge for a brand new system without replacing all parts and tried to leave in components with asbestos and just spray paint it to hide it from the inspectors. Following the install, the ducting they installed was not calculated properly for the system. This led to not enough air input. A second inlet needed to be added to get the proper air inflow. Now, the condensation line is draining into the air ducts because of the improper installation. In addition, the "gurus" attached the condensation line to the sewer line so we have had to get the issues fixed by an hvac guy and separately a plumber to fix this bogus install. We have tried to contact this company, but they do not return calls for repairs or look at things under warranty! Please do not go with these guys! They are untrustworthy and do not do good work! read more

Insulation Gurus did a great job in installing my Ductless Mini Split AC. The whole process went very smoothly from setting up an appointment, getting an estimate and installation. It wasn't a huge high cost install but they treated me as if it was. Jose Zuniga was great to work with and very professional installing my Ductless Mini-split AC unit. He was by himself the first day and installed much of the bigger items himself which was difficult for one person. He worked very hard when doing his job. He explained what he did the first day and said that he needed to come back the next day. He also cleaned up very nicely before left. The second day he came back with a helper and finished up the job in the early afternoon. The detailed work also took some time for both Jose and James. Both of them were working their tails off crawling in the attic and underneath the house which is no fun. Quality of work was great. Jose did have some issues that slowed him down but found a way to work around it and explained what he was doing and why. I gave my blessings for the work-around and the job was completed. Jose explained how the unit works and how to do maintenance to keep the unit running smoothly. They cleaned up nicely and left me with a cool looking and feeling AC unit ready for those hot summer nights. Insulation Gurus are highly recommended and would do business with them again. Ok, it's not often I recommend a vendor, but the Gurus led by Simon are a great bunch who I'd go back to and certainly recommend to friends and family. My wife and I had engaged another contractor initially without having done a lot of shopping around and paid the price quite quickly. The first contractor did not install units per city code and we did not realise this till quite late in the process. This was all during the intense heat wave in San Jose this year and our previous units were more than 20 years old and had given way. I rang Simon and from the first call, I felt comfortable with his advice. That's right; advice. There was no hard sell and he constructively commented on what my options were. He attended the premise and gave us a thorough evaluation of our options. I chose to cancel the contract with the vendor at the time and engaged the gurus. All the paperwork was impeccable; all done to code and inspections were organized and executed.
